  • Estimation for Instantaneous Frequency Using a Combined Fractional Time-Frequency Representation

    In this letter, a combined method based on the fractional linear and the fractional bilinear time-frequency representations (TFRs) is proposed. The method combines the windowed fractional short-time Fourier transform with the fractional Wigner distribution (WD) to estimate the instantaneous frequency (IF) of signals in the appropriate fractional time-frequency domain. For a multi-component signal, the method can significantly eliminate the cross terms and improve the time-frequency resolution of the auto-terms. It is applied to the detection and parameter estimation of linear frequency modulated (LFM) signals. The computer simulations clearly demonstrate that the method is effective.

  • Detection and Parameter Estimation of LFM Signal Using Integration of Fractional Gaussian Window Transform

    In this paper, Integration of Fractional Gaussian Window transform (IFRGWT) is proposed for the parameter estimation of linear FM (LFM) signal; the proposal is based on the integration of the Fractional Fourier transform modified by Gaussian Window. The peak values can be detected by adjusting the standard deviation of Gaussian function and locating the optimal rotated angles. And also the parameters of the signal can be estimated well. As an application, detection and parameter estimation of multiple LFM signals are investigated in low signal-to-noise ratios (SNRs). The analytic results and simulations clearly demonstrate that the method is effective.

    In this study, a wideband 3/4 elliptical ring patch operating millimeter wave band is proposed. Using this structure, the patch antenna is designed for circular polarization and wide-band operation at about 32.1-40 GHz for millimeter wave communication. Simulated and measured results for main parameters such as voltage standing wave ratio (VSWR), impedance bandwidth, axial ratio, radiation patterns and gains are also discussed. The study shows that modeling of such antennas, with simplicity in designing and feeding, can well meet the requirements of millimeter-wave wireless communication systems.
