  • PMOP: Efficient Per-Page Most-Offset Prefetcher

    Hardware prefetching involves a sophisticated balance between accuracy, coverage, and timeliness while minimizing hardware cost. Recent prefetchers have achieved these goals, but they still require complex hardware and a significant amount of storage. In this paper, we propose an efficient Per-page Most-Offset Prefetcher (PMOP) that minimizes hardware cost and simultaneously improves accuracy while maintaining coverage and timeliness. We achieve these objectives using an enhanced offset prefetcher that performs well with a reasonable hardware cost. Our approach first addresses coverage and timeliness by allowing multiple Most-Offset predictions. To minimize offset interference between pages, the PMOP leverages a fine-grain per-page offset filter. This filter records the access history with page-IDs, which enables efficient mapping and tracking of multiple offset streams from diverse pages. Analysis results show that PMOP outperforms the state-of-the-art Signature Path Prefetcher while reducing storage overhead by a factor of 3.4.

    In this letter, we propose a robust IFDD scheme employing an interference canceller, which is used for mitigating interferences from the transmitting signal instead of complex filter bank to reduce the complexity, for the OFDM system using feedback information. According to simulation results, the proposed IFDD OFDM system does not show significant performance degradation but maintains the robustness against the fast time-varying multipath channel, while the TDD OFDM system estimating feedback information from receiving block makes serious performance degradation.

    The performance of asynchronous fast frequency hopping-multiple access (AFFH-MA) systems with multiple hops per bit is investigated with a linear-combining receiver in Rayleigh fading. We present an accurate approximation method for evaluating the error probability by using the characteristic function, Taylor series, and Gauss-Chebyshev quadrature rule. We will show that the proposed method provides an accurate approximation, compared with a simple Gaussian approximation. The validity of proposed analytic works is verified through Monte Carlo simulations.

    The bit error rate (BER) degradations of fast frequency hopping multiple access (FFH-MA) systems due to the frequency and timing offsets are investigated over a Rician fading channel. It is shown that as the received average SNR increases, the BER is affected much larger by frequency and timing offsets. When the frequency offset or the timing offset exists alone, the BER of the FFH-MA system is degraded much more due to the timing offset than due to the frequency offset. The BER degradation due to both the frequency offset and the timing offset is larger than the sum of the degradations due to each offset.
