Excitation of Extremely Low Frequency (ELF)/Very Low Frequency (VLF) from ionosphere,which is artificial modulated by High Frequency (HF) waves can provide a way of antenna generation for deep submarine communication. In this paper, based on plasma energy conservation equation, the theoretical model of amplitude modulation HF pump heating low ionosphere for ELF/VLF generation is established. The linear frequency modulation technique of up-chirp and down-chirp have good self-correlation and cross-correlation, by which information can be transmitted by up-chirp and down-chirp. Thus, the linear frequency modulation technique can be applied to the ionosphere ELF/VLF communication. Based on this, a Chirp-BOK (Binary Orthogonal Keying) communication scheme is proposed. Indeed the Chirp-BOK amplitude and power modulation function are designed by combining the linear frequency modulation technique with the square wave amplitude modulation technique. The simulation results show in the condition that the ionosphere is heated by the Chirp-BOK power modulation HF waves, the temperature of ionospheric electronic and the variations of conductivity have obvious frequency modulation characteristics which are the same as that of power modulation, so does the variation of ionospheric current. Thus, when the ionosphere is heated by Chirp-BOK power modulation HF waves, the up-chirp (symbol ‘0’) and down-chirp (symbol ‘1’) ELF/VLF signals can be generated.

Some networks, such as wireless sensor networks, vehicle networks, etc., are often disconnected and thus fail to provide an end-to-end route for transmission. As a result, a new kind self-organized wireless network, i.e., Delay Tolerant Network (DTN) is proposed to transmit messages using a store-carry-forward method. To efficiently process aggregation queries, this paper proposes a subscription aggregation query processing method that combines query processing and transfer protocols. The basic idea is reducing the number of redundant copy transmissions, increasing the message delivery rate and reducing the transmission delay by matrix summation. Theoretical and experimental results show that the method can attain a good performance in the delay tolerant networks.

This paper proposes a chirp-BOK modulation scheme for VLF (Very low frequency, 3-30kHz) communication under symmetric alpha-stable (SαS) noise. The atmospheric noise which is the main interference in VLF communication is more accurately characterized as SαS distribution in the previous literatures. Chirp-BOK, one of the chirp spread spectrum (CSS) technologies is widely used for its anti-interference performance and constant envelope properties. However, up-chirp and down-chirp are not strictly orthogonal, the bit error rate (BER) performance of chirp-BOK system is no longer improved with the increase of time-bandwidth product. So in this paper, the influence of non-orthogonal modulation waveform on the system is considered, and the model of the optimal parameters for chirp-BOK is derived from the perspective of minimum BER under gaussian noise and SαS noise respectively. Simulations for chirp-BOK scheme under gaussian noise and SαS noise with different α validate the effectiveness of the proposed method.

With the popularity of BitTorrent-like P2P applications, improving its performance has been an active research area. Super-seeding, a special upload policy for the initial seeder, improves the efficiency in producing multiple seeds and reduces the uploading bytes of content initiators, thus being highly expected as a promising solution for improving downloading performance while decreasing uploading cost. However, the overall impacts of super seeding upon BitTorrent performance remain a question and have not been analyzed so far in literature. In this paper, we present an analytical and experimental study over the performance of super-seeding scheme. We attempt to answer the following questions: whether and how much super-seeding saves uploading cost, whether the overall downloading time is decreased by super-seeding, and in which circumstances super-seeding performs worse. Based on the seeding process, our analytical study gives formulas on the new piece distribution time, average downloading time and minimum distribution time for heterogeneous P2P file distribution system with super-seeding. Robust evidence supporting the use (or not) of super-seeding is given based on our worldwide Internet experiments over wide distribution of 250 PlanetLab nodes. With a well-designed experimental scenario, we study the overall download time and upload cost of super seeding scheme under varying seed bandwidth and peer behavior. Results show that super-seeding can save an upload ratio of 20% and does help speeding up swarms in certain modes. Tentative conclusions about the effectiveness of super-seeding and its optimal working circumstances are given with inside mechanism analyzed and negative factor identified. Our work not only provides reference for the potential adoption of super-seeding in BitTorrent and other P2P applications, but also much insights for the tussle of enhancing of Quality of Experience (QoE) and saving cost for a large-scale BitTorrent-like P2P commercial application.
