  • A Delayed Estimation Filter Using Finite Observations on Delay Interval

    In this letter, a new estimation filtering is proposed when a delay between signal generation and signal estimation exists. The estimation filter is developed under a maximum likelihood criterion using only the finite observations on the delay interval. The proposed estimation filter is represented in both matrix form and iterative form. It is shown that the filtered estimate has good inherent properties such as time-invariance, unbiasedness and deadbeat. Via numerical simulations, the performance of the proposed estimation filtering is evaluated by the comparison with that of the existing fixed-lag smoothing, which shows that the proposed approach could be appropriate for fast estimation of signals that vary relatively quickly. Moreover, the on-line computational complexity of the proposed estimation filter is shown to be maintained at a lower level than the existing one.

  • Delayed Perturbation Bounds for Receding Horizon Controls

    This letter presents delayed perturbation bounds (DPBs) for receding horizon controls (RHCs) of continuous-time systems. The proposed DPBs are obtained easily by solving convex problems represented by linear matrix inequalities (LMIs). We show, by numerical examples, that the RHCs have larger DPBs than conventional linear quadratic regulators (LQRs).

  • Maximum Likelihood FIR Filter for State Space Signal Models

    In this paper, a new maximum likelihood filter with finite impulse response (FIR) structures is proposed for state space signal models with both system and observation noises. This filter is called the maximum likelihood FIR (MLF) filter. The proposed MLF filter doesn't require a priori information of the window initial state and processes the finite observations on the most recent window linearly. The proposed MLF filter is first represented in a batch form, and then in an iterative form for computational advantage. The proposed MLF filter has good inherent properties such as time-invariance, unbiasedness, deadbeat, robustness. The validity of the proposed MLF filter is illustrated by a computer simulation on a sinusoidal signal.

  • Enhanced Mechanism for Address Configuration in Wireless Internet

    This letter describes the current mechanism for IP address configuration in the wireless Internet and examines its drawbacks, and suggests a new mechanism of address configuration which provides a reduced message exchange for address configuration in the wireless Internet over the current 4-way message exchange when performing address configuration through DHCP. Analytic performance evaluation and comparison have shown that the proposed mechanism is faster in terms of delay than the existing mechanism including reduced packet loss when in motion.

  • A New Reactive FMIPv6 Mechanism for Minimizing Packet Loss

    This paper considers a new reactive fast handover MIPv6 (FMIPv6) mechanism to minimize packet loss of the existing mechanism. The primary idea of the proposed reactive FMIPv6 mechanism is that the serving access router buffers packets toward the mobile node (MN) as soon as the link layer between MN and serving base station is disconnected. To implement the proposed mechanism, the router discovery message exchanged between MN and serving access router is extended. In addition, the IEEE 802.21 Media Independent Handover Function event service message is defined newly. Through analytic performance evaluation and experiments, the proposed reactive FMIPv6 mechanism can be shown to minimize packet loss much than the existing mechanism.
