In this letter, the effectiveness of the quasi-TEM approximation is studied for the microstrip line including optically induced semiconductor plasma region. This approximation is considered to be efficient under several restrictions such as the upper limit of the microwave frequency and the plasma density.

The high-gain Four-Stacked Circular-Loop Array Antenna (FSLA) working as a single equilibrium feed antenna is presented and used as receiving antenna of the outdoor antenna gain measuring system in UHF TV band. The suppression effect of reflected waves and the error between available and directional gains are experimentally discussed.

This letter proposes a microstrip band elimination filter having an optically controlled small gap on a resonant section for the shift of the eliminated frequency range using the semiconductor plasma. The basic characteristics of this filter are analized theoretically utilizing the (FD)2TD method.

For a method to control the microwave coupled lines with optically induced plasma effectively, we propose the selective mode-control method, which restricts controlled modes to a selected one. We analyzed the basic characteristics of coupled microstrip lines theoretically by using the spectral domain technique and indicated the effectiveness of this method with the aid of numerical results. Further, we designed an optically controlled change-over switch as an application of this method.

This paper describes analytical results of high-Tc superconducting asymmetric coplanar strip lines using the frequency-dependent finite-difference time-domain method. The propagation constants of the YBa2Cu3O7-x asymmetric coplanar strip line fabricated on the LiNbO3 substrate are reported. The effect of the SiO2 buffer layer is also investigated.

For the effective control of microwaves in the frequency domain, we propose a new method utilizing current distributions of standing waves on the terminated microstrip line. We analized a short ended microstrip line using the (FD)2TD method to indicate the effectiveness of our proposal. Further we proposed an optically controlled microstrip filter as an application of this method.

For an application to the optical signal processing devices, we propose the optical X coupler which consists of two bending waveguides and a nonlinear dielectric region. To analyze this structure accurately we utilized the iterative finite difference beam propagation method (iterative FD-BPM). In this paper the formulation of the iterative FD-BPM for one wave and two waves cases are presented, respectively. We investigate following two cases. First, we consider the case that the light is launched into one of the input ports. We calculate the evolutions of the field amplitude and the transmission characteristics for the input power. Second, we consider the case that the signal light with the constant power is launched into one of the input ports and that the control light with the wavelength different from that of the signal light is launched into another input port. We calculate the evolutions of the field amplitude and the transmission characteristics of the signal light for the power of control light. As a result of the analysis, we show that all-optical switching operation is possible in the proposed structure.
