An alternative design for constructing multilevel space-time codes is proposed. For a given space-time block code, we combine several component codes in conjunction with set partitioning of the expanded signal constellation according to the coding gain distance criterion. The error performance of an example code is compared with a traditional multilevel space-time code in computer simulation.

The poor capability of bandwidth management on the current CATV network hinders the promotion of multi-media streaming services. This paper proposes a solution by applying stream-code partition on the S-CDMA system adopted in the DOCSIS 2.0 standard. The method makes use of the Fine Granularity Scalability source coding and offers an efficient way for uplink rate control, so that bandwidth management can be performed in an extremely flexible manner.

A new block coded modulation scheme with inter-level memory is proposed. The proposed code construction is based on the use of single parity check codes to concatenate a set of coded blocks. Simulation results show that the proposed scheme can achieve considerable coding gains while the decoding complexity is not too large.

In this letter, we propose an improved block-coded modulation scheme for the Rayleigh fading channel. The proposed coding structure is constructed by providing interblock coding between adjacent blocks. The error performance of an example is simulated. The simulation results show that the proposed method can achieve large coding gain with reasonable decoding complexity.

Traceback schemes used in Viterbi decoders can be categorized into multi-pointer and one-pointer methods. A traceback scheme using one-pointer method has been shown to be better than the one using multi-pointer method in terms of memory size and latency. We propose an area efficient traceback method which is based on the one-pointer scheme. The proposed method can be implemented by using only two single-port memory banks. In comparison with traditional methods, lower power consumption and smaller area occupation are required for the proposed method.
