Focusing on the planar slab structure of OLEDs, it is found the threshold value of the in-plane wave number at which the spectrum component of the electromagnetic field at the outermost boundary is divided into a radiation mode and a guided (confined) mode. This is equivalent to the total reflection condition in the ray optics. The spectral integral of the Poynting power was calculated from the boundary values of the electromagnetic fields in each. Both become average power and reactive power respectively, and the sum of them becomes the total volt-amperes from the light emitting dipole. Therefore, the ratio of average power to this total is the power factor that can be a quantitative index of light extraction.

With the use of a two-dimensional model, single laser beam trapping of particles is analyzed as the electromagnetic boundary-value problem. From the numerical results, it is found that the trapping mechanism for this system depends upon the surface field distribution of the object.

With the use of the Fourier-Laplace integral, the impulse response for a two-dimensional model of the Cherenkov-type oscillator is obtained. From the numerical analysis of the impulse response, the temporal evolution of the response is found to have two different phases ini which it grows linearly and exponentially with the distance from the origin where an impulsive excitation is applied.
In this letter, a theoretical estimation of pick-up characteristics of the fiber probe of Photon Scanning Tunneling Microscopy based on the Wiener-Hopf technique taken account of the weakly guiding approximation are reported. As a result, it is found that diffracted waves by the extremity of the fiber probe mainly act on the mode excitation rather than transmitted waves, then the pick-up characteristics are well accordance with typical experiments quality and quantity.
