The cooperative relay network exploits the space diversity gain by allowing cooperation among users to improve transmission quality. It is an important issue to identify the cluster-head (or relay node) and its members who are to cooperate. The cluster-head consumes more battery power than an ordinary node since it has extra responsibilities, i.e., ensuring the cooperation of its members' transmissions; thereby the cluster-head has a lower throughput than the average. Since users are joining or departing the clusters from time to time, the network topology is changing and the network may not be stable. How to balance the fairness among users and the network stability is a very interesting topic. This paper proposes an adaptive weighted clustering algorithm (AWCA), in which the weight factors are introduced to adaptively control both the stability and fairness according to the number of arrival users. It is shown that when the number of arrival users is large, AWCA has the life time longer than FWCA and similar to SWCA and that when the number of arrival users is small, AWCA provides fairness higher than SWCA and close to FWCA.

Code division multiple access (CDMA) technique is used widely since it can flexibly support multi-rate multi-media services by changing the number of orthogonal spreading codes. In this paper, we present a new adaptive code assignment algorithm, which consists of three steps: reserved-space, improved-crowded-first-space, and multi-code combination to fully use the code space. Compared with the existing algorithms, the proposed algorithm can avoid the code blocking problem and lower its total blocking probability while keeping its computational complexity relatively low. Simulation results show that increasing the free space reduces the average total blocking probability while increasing the blocking probability of high rate users.

With the development of Global Navigation Satellite System (GNSS), the amount of related research is growing rapidly in China. A lot of accomplishments have been achieved in all branches of the satellite navigation field, especially motivated by the BeiDou Program. In this paper, the current status, technologies and developments in satellite positioning and navigation in China are introduced. Firstly, an overview and update of the BeiDou Program is presented, known as the three-step development strategy for different services. Then signal design for the BeiDou system is discussed, including the generation of pseudo-random noise (PRN) codes for currently available signal B1, and the investigation of a new signal modulation scheme for interoperability at open frequency B1C. The B1C signal should comply to Multiplexed Binary Offset Carrier (MBOC) constrains, and a modulation called Quadrature Multiplexed BOC (QMBOC) is presented, which is equivalent to time-multiplexed BOC (TMBOC) for GPS and composite BOC (CBOC) for Galileo, while overcomes the drawback of CBOC. Besides, the inter and intra system compatibility is discussed, based on the effective C/N0 proposed by International Telecommunication Union (ITU). After that, receiver technologies in challenging environments are introduced, such as weak signal acquisition and assisted GNSS (A-GNSS). Moreover, a method of ambiguity mitigation for adaptive digital beam forming (ADBF) in large spacing antenna arrays is proposed, by which interference suppression is available. Furthermore, cutting edge technologies are brought in, including seamless navigation for indoor and outdoor, and collaborative navigation. After all, GNSS applications in China for industry and daily life are shown, as well as the market prospection.

This paper investigated a Subsample Time delay Estimation (STE) algorithm based on the amplitude of cross-correlation function to improve the estimation accuracy. In this paper, a rough time delay estimation is applied based on traditional cross correlator, and a fine estimation is achieved by approximating the sampled cross-correlation sequence to the amplitude of the theoretical cross-correlation function for linear frequency modulation (LFM) signal. Simulation results show that the proposed algorithm outperforms existing methods and can effectively improve time delay estimation accuracy with the complexity comparable to the traditional cross-correlation method. The theoretical Cramér-Rao Bound (CRB) is derived, and simulations demonstrate that the performance of STE can approach the boundary. Eventually, four important parameters discussed in the simulation to explore the impact on Mean Squared Error (MSE).
