  • Autonomous Decentralized Service Oriented Architecture Concept and Application for Mission Critical Information Systems

    Recently, the Services Oriented Architectures (SOA) have been recognized as the key to the integration and interoperability of different applications and systems that coexist in an organization. However, even though the use of SOA has increased, some applications are unable to use it. That is the case of mission critical information applications, whose requirements such as high reliability, non-stop operation, high flexibility and high performance are not satisfied by conventional SOA infrastructures. In this article we present a novel approach of combining SOA with Autonomous Decentralized Systems (ADS) in order to provide an infrastructure that can satisfy those requirements. We have named this infrastructure Autonomous Decentralized Service Oriented Architecture (ADSOA). We present the concept and architecture of ADSOA, as well as the Loosely Couple Delivery Transaction and Synchronization Technology for assuring the data consistency and high reliability of the application. Moreover, a real implementation and evaluation of the proposal in a mission critical information system, the Uniqueness Verifying Public Key Infrastructure (UV-PKI), is shown in order to prove its effectiveness.

    Recently, in wired networks, a hierarchical structure has been introduced to improve management and routing. In ad hoc networks, we introduce a hierarchical structure to achieve the same goal. However, it is difficult to introduce the hierarchical structure because all mobile hosts are always moving around the network. So, we proposed the clustering scheme to construct the hierarchical structure before. In this paper, we propose a new hierarchical routing protocol called Hi-TORA based on the clustering scheme. And we show the experimental evaluation of Hi-TORA with respect to the number of control packets, accuracy of packet delivery and hop counts in comparison with TORA.

  • An Adaptive Multihop Clustering Scheme for Ad Hoc Networks with High Mobility

    A clustering scheme for ad hoc networks is aimed at managing a number of mobile devices by utilizing hierarchical structure of the networks. In order to construct and maintain an effective hierarchical structure in ad hoc networks where mobile devices may move at high mobility, the following requirements must be satisfied. (1) The role of each mobile device for the hierarchical structure is adaptive to dynamic change of the topology of the ad hoc networks. The role of each mobile device should thus change autonomously based on local information in each mobile device. (2) The overhead for management of the hierarchical structure is small. The number of mobile devices in each cluster should thus be almost equivalent. This paper proposes an adaptive multihop clustering scheme for highly mobile ad hoc networks. The results obtained by extensive simulation experiments show that the proposed scheme does not depend on mobility and node degree of mobile devices in the network, which satisfy the above requirements.

    To develop distributed applications requires to consider not only functional requirements but also non-functional requirements such as distributions, synchronizations, and scheduling policies. Specifying such non-functional requirements is necessary for supporting on-line capabilities of Autonomous Decentralized Systems (ADS). However, the existing design notations and methods do not address such needs sufficiently enough to develop ADS applications systematically using object-oriented technique. In this paper, we propose an object-oriented design-level support for specifying concurrent, distributed, and autonomous object behaviors in developing dynamic distributed applications. We develop a high-level meta-object protocol called diMOP to deal with object distributions, method synchronizations, and method scheduling policies. In addition, we develop Class Diagram Supporting diMOP (CDSM) and Dynamically Configurable Object Statemachine (DCOS) for specifying non-functional behaviors and dynamic configuration behaviors, by extending the ordinary class diagram and state diagram of UML. A development environment called diMOPer is implemented to support our approach.

  • Network Configuration Identification for ATM-LAN

    This paper discusses a way of identifying the network configuration of ATM-LANs, which are composed of a number of ATM hubs. In general, a Network Management System (NMS) sets and gets the necessary data to and from the network elements. In managing an ATM-LAN, the ATM connection between the NMS and each network element, namely the ATM hub, must be established in order to get and set the necessary data. This forms a remarkable contrast with conventional LANs such as the IEEE802.3 LAN, which is a shared media network and enables broadcast communication without setting up any connection. This paper proposes a new protocol and a procedure that establishes the ATM connection between the NMS and each ATM hub, while identifying the overall network configuration. First, this paper makes clear the peculiarity of the ATM-LAN in terms of automatically identifying the network configuration. Next, the identification protocol that achieves the required properties is precisely explained. Then, the proposed identification protocol is evaluated in terms of required bandwidth and identification time.
