A key problem under imperfect power control in multimedia DS-CDMA networks is how to guarantee the differentiated outage probabilities of different traffic classes resulted from the uncertainty of received powers. In addition, in order to utilize the scarce wireless resource efficiently, as many users as possible should be admitted into the network while providing guaranteed quality-of-service support for them. In this work, a call admission control scheme, Differentiated Outage Probabilities CAC or DOP-CAC, is proposed to achieve the above goals for imperfectly power-controlled multimedia CDMA networks. Two important features of CDMA systems are considered in our scheme: one is the power multiplexing among bursty traffics and the other is the power allocation scheme employed at the physical layer. The validity and efficiency of DOP-CAC are verified by numerical examples. Two power allocation schemes, Limited Optimal Power Allocation (LOPA) proposed in [3] and Quasi-Optimal Power Allocation (QOPA) we proposed in [6], are considered respectively and compared in the performance evaluation of DOP-CAC. The results show that DOP-CAC achieves much better resource utilization under QOPA than it does under LOPA. By employing QOPA at the physical layer and DOP-CAC at the link layer, our work suggests a high efficiency solution for QoS support of multimedia traffic under imperfect power control environment.

Hierarchical macrocell/microcell architectures have been proposed for future cellular mobile communication. The performance analysis for the hierarchical cellular system becomes an important issue. In this paper, extending the analytical methods from[1][2][8], assuming that the imperfect power control follows log-normal statistics, and employing different attenuation models for macrocells and microcells, the capacity plane and outage probability of the system are examined and quantified with and without perfect sectorization. From the numerical results of parameters of IS-95 protocol, the high user capacity and lower outage probability may be expected in the case of relatively tight power control and narrower overlap between sectors. These results are compared with the previously published CDMA nonhierarchical cellular system estimation. When we employ the hierarchical cellular system, we can increase the user capacity 2.3 times with the same bandwidth 1.25 MHz than the one of the nonhierarchical cellular system.

Several multiuser detectors have been recently proposed to combat multiple-access interference and near-far problem for CDMA systems. The performance of a multi-user receiver in combining the decorrelating decision-feedback scheme for a synchronous DS/CDMA system is considered. Using the Gaussian approximation on the multiple-access interference and amplitude estimation errors, we derive a closed form expression for the BER performance of the decorrelating decision-feedback detector in single-path Rayleigh fading channel and power controlled system. And, we show that our analysis agrees with the results of simulations. A modified decision-feedback detector is also proposed and analyzes. Numerical results show that the modified dicision-feedback detector proposed in this paper results in enhanced performance.

An analysis of an imperfectly power controlled DS/CDMA slotted cellular system over the frequency selective Rician fading channel with an error correction coding is performed. The user capacity and packet throughput of reverse link are estimated to show the sensitivity to the power control error in a DS/CDMA system with Rician fading channel. The power control error are modeled with Gaussian random variables, which is a reasonable choice for its proved validity. The relative capacity decrease from the power control error in Rician channel are presented and compared with the results from flat fading channel. Performance results for the model considering multicell interference, pathloss exponent and power ratio of scattered component to direct component are presented.
