This paper proposes a multicast delivery system using base station diversity for cellular systems. Conventional works utilize single wireless link communication to achieve reliable multicast. In cellular systems, received signal intensity declines in cell edge areas. Therefore, wireless terminals in cell edge areas suffer from many transmission errors due to low received signal intensity. Additionally, multi-path fading also causes dynamic fluctuation of received signal intensity. Wireless terminals also suffer from transmission errors due to the multi-path fading. The proposed system utilizes multiple wireless link communication to improve transmission performance. Each wireless terminal communicates with some neighbor base stations, and combines frame information which arrives from different base stations. Numerical results demonstrate that the proposed system can achieve multicast data delivery with a short transmission period and can reduce consumed wireless resource due to retransmission.

The General Packet Radio Service (GPRS) is a new bearer service for GSM that greatly improves and simplifies wireless access to packet data networks, e.g., to the Internet. It applies a packet radio principle to transfer user data packets in an efficient way between mobile stations and external packet data networks. This tutorial gives an introduction to GPRS. The article discusses the system architecture and its basic functionality. It explains the offered services, the session and mobility management, the routing, the GPRS air interface including channel coding, and the GPRS protocol architecture. Finally, an interworking example between GPRS and IP networks is shown.

This paper describes a mobile information access system based on a multi-agent architecture. With the rapid progress of wireless data communications, mobile Internet access will be more and more popular. In mobile environments, user location plays an important role for information filtering and flexible communication service. In this paper, we propose a mobile information service system where a user with a handy terminal accesses Internet in an open air to look up map information and related town information. Each user information is managed by an independent agent process. And the agent provides each user with a personal service collaborating with other applications. A map-based information service example based on this architecture is also described.
