  • Stable Throughput of Reserved Idle Signal Multiple Access with Collision Resolution

    This paper proposes the reserved idle signal multiple access with collision resolution (R-ISMA/CR) protocol, which can maintain stability without being influenced by the retransmission probability. The R-ISMA/CR makes use of the multi-idle signals at the base station and the manipulating counter at the terminals. The performance of this protocol is evaluated by using the maximum throughput analysis and simulations.

    This paper compares two techniques in recovering the capacity degradation caused by sectorization in a cellular system. They are the Directed Retry and Load Sharing in sector cells. Since both techniques requires an overlapping area between adjacent sectors, the values of the overlapping area are chosen such that the Carrier to Interference Ratio (CIR) is satisfied.

    This paper describes an evolution and standardization trends of the wireless channel modeling activities towards IMT-Advanced. After a background survey on various channel modeling approaches is introduced, two well-known multiple-input-multiple-output (MIMO) channel models for cellular systems, namely, the 3GPP/3GPP2 Spatial Channel Model (SCM) and the IMT-Advanced MIMO Channel Model (IMT-Adv MCM) are compared, and their main similarities are pointed out. The performance of MIMO systems is greatly influenced by the spatial-temporal correlation properties of the underlying MIMO channels. Here, we investigate the spatial-temporal correlation characteristics of the 3GPP/3GPP2 SCM and the IMT-Adv MCM in term of their spatial multiplexing and spatial diversity gains. The main goals of this paper are to summarize the current state of the art, as well as to point out the gaps in the wireless channel modeling works, and thus hopefully to stimulate research in these areas.

  • Random Access Algorithm for Users with Multiple Priorities

    This paper presents a method of employing a priority scheme in a random access environment. A prioritized nonblocked stack collision resolution algorithm with binary feedback is developed and tested using simulations. The algorithm accommodates an n-level priority scheme which makes it attractive in mobile data systems. The effectiveness of the algorithm is described on its ability to first, reject the lowest priority class when the system load is near or on the maximum value and second, minimize the delay spread of the higher class users. The performance of the algorithm is characterized using the throughput/delay and cumulative delay for each class of users.

  • Channel Allocation Algorithms for Multislot TDMA with Multiclass Users

    This paper proposed a method of slot allocation in a multislot TDMA system when multiple service priorities are supported. The algorithm is tested both in Variable Rate Reservation Access (VRRA) and Advanced TDMA protocols. We exploit the multislot reservation capability to achieve the delay requirements of each priority level. The channel allocation algorithm assumed that all data terminals are capable of multislot reservation. In this case the delay variance can be controlled based on the packet length information and the accumulated delay of each data user. The performance of the system is evaluated using the cumulative delay distribution and mean overall delays for the different user types.

    This paper proposes the use, in integrated wireless systems, of the Reserved Idle Signal Multiple Access with Collision Resolution (R-ISMA/CR) protocol for applications in future multimedia mobile communications. It is applied to the integrated voice and data wireless system. Moreover, the consideration is made of the integrated voice and the low-bit video wireless system in R-ISMA/CR. To integrate video we employed not only a packed discard for video packets when the video packet delay is more than a threshold value, but also the connection packet (CP) technique for improving the channel utilization. Finally the integration of voice, data, and low-bit-video wireless system in R-ISMA/CR is considered. The performance are evaluated mainly by simulations.
