  • Lattice Reduction Aided Joint Precoding for MIMO-Relay Broadcast Communication

    In this letter, we propose a lattice reduction (LR) aided joint precoding design for MIMO-relay broadcast communication with the average bit error rate (BER) criterion. We jointly design the signal process flow at both the base station (BS), and the relay station (RS), using the reduced basis of two-stage channel matrices. We further modify the basic precoding design with a novel shift method and a modulo method to improve the power efficiency at the BS and the RS respectively. In addition, the MMSE-SIC algorithm is employed to improve the performance of precoding. Simulations show that, the proposed schemes achieve higher diversity order than the traditional precoding without LR, and the modified schemes significantly outperform the basic design, proving the effectiveness of the proposed methods.

    We extend the Nonparametric Discriminant Analysis (NDA) algorithm to a semi-supervised dimensionality reduction technique, called Semi-supervised Nonparametric Discriminant Analysis (SNDA). SNDA preserves the inherent advantages of NDA, that is, relaxing the Gaussian assumption required for the traditional LDA-based methods. SNDA takes advantage of both the discriminating power provided by the NDA method and the locality-preserving power provided by the manifold learning. Specifically, the labeled data points are used to maximize the separability between different classes and both the labeled and unlabeled data points are used to build a graph incorporating neighborhood information of the data set. Experiments on synthetic as well as real datasets demonstrate the effectiveness of the proposed approach.

  • Achieving Global Optimal Replication in Distributed Networks

    This letter presents the globally optimal data replication in the distributed networks. We propose a distributed approach based on the metropolis-hastings algorithm to achieve the globally optimal data replication without requiring any global information. Experimental results show that the proposed approach works well and the error can be held below 0.6% easily.

    Adaptive hybrid genetic algorithm concatenated with improved parallel interference cancellation, i.e. adaptive hybrid genetic algorithm parallel interference cancellation (AHGAPIC) was proposed. A study is conducted on the application of AHGAPIC to soft decoding high rate multi-user detection with diversity reception for dual-rate wideband DS-CDMA spread spectrum communications, aiming to mitigate the effect of multiple access interference. The relevant research has revealed that the local search capability of hybrid genetic algorithm (HGA) is still not good enough. Therefore, first, two evolutionary operations, i.e. inversion and insertion are merged into HGA to constitute a novel algorithm. With its moderate local search capability, this new algorithm can search for the global optimum region according to the information entropy, and then it is made adaptively vary its probabilities of crossover and mutation depending on the fitness values of the solutions to form the adaptive hybrid genetic algorithm (AHGA). Second, AHGA is utilized to effectively identify the better and better binary string to maximize the log-likelihood function of dual-rate multi-user detection. As AHGA converges to the optimum region, the control factor of the improved parallel interference cancellation (IPIC) detector is set to be the ratio of the average fitness value to the maximum fitness value of the population of AHGA. Finally, equipped with both the control factor and the binary string with the maximum fitness value as the initial data, the IPIC detector can rapidly find out the approximately optimum soft decoding vector. Then, it can obtain the approximately global optimum estimate point on the basis of the soft decoding rule, corresponding to the transmitted data bits. A lower bound of computational complexity has been achieved through simulations and qualitative analyses. The property of the proposed algorithm to converge rapidly leads to lower computational complexity. Emulation results have shown that the AHGAPIC soft decoding high rate multi-user detector is superior to other suboptimum detectors considered in this paper in terms of two points. They are the mitigation of multiple access interference and the resistance to near-far effects. Its performance is close to the sequential group optimum multi-user detector but with a shorter time delay.

  • Candidate-Based Routing for Mobile Ad Hoc Networks

    A novel routing protocol, named candidate-based routing, for mobile ad hoc networks is presented. Instead of flooding over the whole network, it improves and rebuilds routing paths among a limited number of candidate nodes, which are dynamically elected without incurring or exchanging any additional information. Experimental results show that the proposed protocol performs well in terms of overhead and improvement in route efficiency, especially in the high mobility speed environments.

  • Using Temporal Correlation to Optimize Stereo Matching in Video Sequences

    The large computational complexity makes stereo matching a big challenge in real-time application scenario. The problem of stereo matching in a video sequence is slightly different with that in a still image because there exists temporal correlation among video frames. However, no existing method considered temporal consistency of disparity for algorithm acceleration. In this work, we proposed a scheme called the dynamic disparity range (DDR) to optimize matching cost calculation and cost aggregation steps by narrowing disparity searching range, and a scheme called temporal cost aggregation path to optimize the cost aggregation step. Based on the schemes, we proposed the DDR-SGM and the DDR-MCCNN algorithms for the stereo matching in video sequences. Evaluation results showed that the proposed algorithms significantly reduced the computational complexity with only very slight loss of accuracy. We proved that the proposed optimizations for the stereo matching are effective and the temporal consistency in stereo video is highly useful for either improving accuracy or reducing computational complexity.

  • Full Diversity Full Rate Cyclotomic Orthogonal Space-Time Block Codes for MIMO Wireless Systems

    In this letter we design a new family of space-time block codes (STBC) for multi-input multi-output (MIMO) systems. The complex orthogonal STBC achieves full diversity and full transmission rate with fast maximum-likelihood decoding when only two transmit antennas are employed. By combining the Alamouti STBC and the multidimensional signal constellation rotation based on the cyclotomic number field, we construct cyclotomic orthogonal space-time block codes (COSTBCs) which can achieve full diversity and full rate for multiple transmit antennas. Theoretical analysis and simulation results demonstrate excellent performance of the proposed codes, while the decoding complexity is further reduced.

  • GazeFollowTR: A Method of Gaze Following with Reborn Mechanism

    Gaze following is the task of estimating where an observer is looking inside a scene. Both the observer and scene information must be learned to determine the gaze directions and gaze points. Recently, many existing works have only focused on scenes or observers. In contrast, revealed frameworks for gaze following are limited. In this paper, a gaze following method using a hybrid transformer is proposed. Based on the conventional method (GazeFollow), we conduct three developments. First, a hybrid transformer is applied for learning head images and gaze positions. Second, the pinball loss function is utilized to control the gaze point error. Finally, a novel ReLU layer with the reborn mechanism (reborn ReLU) is conducted to replace traditional ReLU layers in different network stages. To test the performance of our developments, we train our developed framework with the DL Gaze dataset and evaluate the model on our collected set. Through our experimental results, it can be proven that our framework can achieve outperformance over our referred methods.
