An ICI (Inter-Cell Interference) mitigation algorithm for exploiting macroscopic diversity for an up-link OFDMA (Orthogonal Frequency Division Multiple Access) system is proposed. To reduce the influence of carrier collision, the order of resource allocation is coordinated based on the location of each MS (Mobile Station) and the associated carrier group. This consideration significantly reduces ICI and enhances throughput at the boundary region.

This paper presents a coexistence model of IEEE 802.15.4 with IEEE 802.11b interference in fading channels and proposes two adaptive channel allocation schemes. The first avoids the IEEE 802.15.4 interference only and the second avoids both of the IEEE 802.15.4 and IEEE 802.11b interferences. Numerical results show that the proposed algorithms are effective for avoiding interferences and for maximizing network capacity since they select a channel which gives the maximum signal to noise ratio to the system.
This paper presents a numerical analysis of reverse link capacity by obtaining a closed form of ICI (InterCell Interference) over OFDM (Orthogonal Frequency Division Multiplexing)-based broadband wireless networks. In the analysis, shadowing factors are taken into account for determining the home BS (Base Station) of each MS (Mobile Station) over multicell environments. Under the consideration, a more accurate analysis of link capacity can be performed compared to Gilhousen's approximation. In the numerical results, it turns out that the actual interference is lower than Gilhousen's approximation with a decrease of around 20% in the interference.

Although there have been enormous investments into English education all around the world, not many differences have been made to change the English instruction style. Considering the shortcomings for the current teaching-learning methodology, we have been investigating advanced computer-assisted language learning (CALL) systems. This paper aims at summarizing a set of POSTECH approaches including theories, technologies, systems, and field studies and providing relevant pointers. On top of the state-of-the-art technologies of spoken dialog system, a variety of adaptations have been applied to overcome some problems caused by numerous errors and variations naturally produced by non-native speakers. Furthermore, a number of methods have been developed for generating educational feedback that help learners develop to be proficient. Integrating these efforts resulted in intelligent educational robots – Mero and Engkey – and virtual 3D language learning games, Pomy. To verify the effects of our approaches on students' communicative abilities, we have conducted a field study at an elementary school in Korea. The results showed that our CALL approaches can be enjoyable and fruitful activities for students. Although the results of this study bring us a step closer to understanding computer-based education, more studies are needed to consolidate the findings.
This paper presents an admission control technique for multi-carrier systems with an FRF(frequency reuse factor) of 1. The FRF of 1 is very attrative for more improved channel throughput but the forward link capacity is rapidly decreased at the cell boundary region due to the increase in the ICI(InterCell Interference). By measuring a region-based channel capacity and deriving a closed form of blocking probability, a QoS(Quality of Service) maintenance technique and mobility model can be acquired. In the simulation, the proposed scheme demonstrates a blocking probability reduction of up to 40% compared to the cell-based link capacity scheme.

This study examines the dialog-based language learning game (DB-LLG) realized in a 3D environment built with game contents. We designed the DB-LLG to communicate with users who can conduct interactive conversations with game characters in various immersive environments. From the pilot test, we found that several technologies were identified as essential in the construction of the DB-LLG such as dialog management, hint generation, and grammar error detection and feedback. We describe the technical details of our system POSTECH immersive English study (Pomy). We evaluated the performance of each technology using a simulator and field tests with users.
For broadband wireless networks based on OFDM (Orthogonal Frequency Division Multiplexing), an FRF (Frequency Reuse Factor) of 1 has been highly desirable for more improved channel throughput. However, due to the limited power budget of MSs (Mobile Stations) or the increase in ICI (Inter-Cell Interference), a required QoS (Quality of Service) may not be maintained. This paper addresses an optimal LCRTD (Loading Control based on Region-Time Division) over multi-cell environments for an efficient uplink QoS control. In the LCRTD scheme, a cell is divided into several regions by utilizing an optimization approach under QoS constraints, and users in each region are allowed to send their data at the allocated time slots. In the simulation, it is demonstrated that a decrease of 26% in the transmit power can be obtained.
