In CDMA system, the RAKE receiver is commonly used to attain diversity gain by taking advantage of the good correlation properties of the spreading codes. However, at low spreading gains the good correlation properties of the spreading codes are lost and the RAKE receiver performance is severely degraded by intersymbol interference (ISI) due to the interpath interference (IPI). In case of multi-code CDMA system, there are exist multi-code interference (MCI). In order to suppress ISI and MCI, a novel receiver based on soft-output viterbi algorithm (SOVA) equalization is proposed in this paper. The SOVA equalization is applied to symbol sequences after RAKE combining and MCI cancellation to effectively eliminate the ISI during transmission of high rate data in wideband DS-CDMA systems. Simulation results show that the proposed RAKE-SOVA receiver significantly outperform the traditional RAKE and RAKE-VA receivers.

An LDPC-coded FH-OFDMA system is proposed for the uplink of a packet-based cellular system, where the frequency hopping (FH) is based on a resource block (RB) for coherent demodulation. For the system, different RB types are employed either for better intercell interference (ICI) averaging capability or for better channel estimation performance. For the receiver, practical iterative channel estimation and decoding methods are proposed to improve the channel estimation performance without boosting the pilot power and to mitigate the adverse effects of the ICI. Extensive simulation results are provided to show the effect of the RB size on the channel estimation and ICI averaging performance as well as possible application of the proposed receiver in harsh mobile environments with dynamic packet allocation.

Based on the characteristics of the thresholds of two detection schemes employing locally optimum test statistics, a sequential detection design procedure is proposed and analyzed. The proposed sequential test, called the sequential locally optimum test (SLOT), inherently provides finite stopping time (terminates with probability one within the finite horizon), and thereby avoids undesirable forced termination. The performance of the SLOT is compared with that of the fixed sample-size test, sequential probability ratio test (SPRT), truncated SPRT, and 2-SPRT. It is observed that the SLOT requires smaller average sample numbers than other schemes at most values of the normalized signal amplitude while maintaining the error performance close to the SPRT.

In this letter, we propose an adaptive transmission method for an OFDMA system supporting both band-AMC and diversity modes in a frame, simultaneously. In the proposed method, users are classified into the two groups preferring the band-AMC mode or the diversity mode based on their channel parameters. Then the BS performs resource allocation to maximize the throughput. It is observed that the proposed adaptive transmission method can reduce the feedback overhead with negligible performance loss.

Based on game theory, a distributed power control algorithm with sequential subchannel nulling is proposed for ad-hoc networks. It is shown that the proposed method, by sharing subchannels appropriately according to the interference profiles, can reduce the power consumption of the network while satisfying the target rate of each link.

We derive the average achievable rate of an adaptive wireless multicast method with antenna diversity in Nakagami fading channels when the rate is selected by the minimum signal-to-noise ratio (SNR) of the multicast group. Based on the limiting distribution of the minimum SNR, we then derive an approximation to the average achievable rate, which provides accurate values easily in a wide range of channel parameters.

A cycle search algorithm based on a message-passing in a Tanner graph is proposed for designing good LDPC codes. By applying the message-passing algorithm with a message alphabet composed of only two messages to a cycle search, we can perform a cycle search with less computational complexity than tree-based search algorithms. Also, the proposed algorithm can be easily implemented by using an existing message-passing decoder and can easily adopt different kind of criteria for an LDPC code design with a slight modification in the node update equations.

In this letter, we propose a multi-cell cooperation method for broadcast packet transmission in the OFDM-based cellular system with multiple transmit antennas. In the proposed method, to transmit two streams of spatially demultiplexed or transmit diversity coded symbols, we divide a coded packet into subparts to each of which different cell group and antenna pairs are assigned. It is shown that the proposed method reduces the outage probability with only negligible increase in channel estimation.
