  • Congestion Control for Multi-Source Content Retrieval in Content Centric Networks

    CCN/NDN (Content-Centric Networking/Named-Data Networking) is one of the most promising content-oriented network architectures. In CCN/NDN, forwarding information base (FIB) might have multiple entries for a same content name prefix, which means CCN/NDN potentially supports multi-source download. When a content is obtained from multiple sources, the technical knowledge obtained for congestion control in the current Internet cannot be simply applied. This is because in the current Internet, FIB is restricted to have only one entry for each IP address prefix, which causes quite different path feature from CCN/NDN. This paper proposes a new congestion control for CCN/NDN with multi-source content retrieval. The proposed congestion control is composed of end-to-end window flow control and router assisted Interest forwarding control, and enables transmission rate regulation only on a congested branch.

  • Dynamic Ant Colony Optimization for Routing in Mobile Content Oriented Networks

    A huge amount of content exists on the Internet, and contents from mobile devices are also present. Growth of the Internet of Things (IoT) is further accelerating this trend. Content oriented networks have been proposed as a new network architecture that conducts routing using the content's ID instead of an IP address. Content queries are routed on the content name itself instead of a destination address in these content oriented networks. When the content from a mobile device moves somewhere else, all the routing tables are generally re-created with the movement information that the mobile device sends. However, a routing scheme that uses ant colony optimization has attracted attention for supporting this process, but this optimization has a problem in that it cannot cope with moving contents and users sufficiently. In this paper, we propose a scheme that can cope with moving contents sources and users that require contents by using pheromones that are laid by these moving mobile devices. This proposed scheme can be applied to case of not only moving content sources but also the moving request users. Moreover, we conduct simulations to evaluate the performance of the proposed scheme.

    Content centric network (CCN) is conceived as a good candidate for a futuristic Internet paradigm due to its simple and robust communication mechanism. By directly applying the CCN paradigm in wireless multihop mobile ad hoc networks, we experience various kind of issues such as packet flooding, data redundancy, packet collisions, and retransmissions etc., due to the broadcast nature of the wireless channel. To cope with the problems, in this study, we propose a novel location-aware forwarding and caching scheme for CCN-based mobile ad hoc networks. Extensive simulations are performed by using simulator, named ndnSIM. Experiment results show that proposed scheme does better as compared to other schemes in terms of content retrieval time and the number of Interest retransmissions triggered in the network.

    Content centric networking (CCN) is a newly proposed futuristic Internet paradigm in which communication depends on the decoupling of content names from their locations. In CCN-based multihop wireless ad hoc networks, the participating nodes show dynamic topology, intermittent connectivity, channels fluctuation, and severe constraints such as limited battery power. In the case of traffic congestion, the affected nodes die early owing to the shortage of battery power. Consequently, all pending request entries are also destroyed, which further degrades the network performance as well as the node working lifetime. In this study, we have proposed a novel energy aware transmission scheme in which the forwarding mechanism is based on a node's residual energy. The proposed scheme is evaluated using official ndnSIM. This scheme enhances performance in terms of content retrieval time and total Interest transmission in the network.

  • Low Overhead Smooth Mobile Content Sharing Using Content Centric Networking (CCN)

    Rapid developments in mobile technology have transformed mobile phones into mobile multimedia devices. Due to these advancements, user created mobile content is on the increase, both in terms of quality and quantity. To keep pace with such movements, the new networking technology named content centric networking (CCN), which is optimized for content sharing, has appeared. However, it virtually ignores mobile devices. So, this letter proposes a smooth mobile content migration scheme for CCN to provide lower communication overhead and shorter download time.
