Abstract: We first demonstrate a self-pulsation phenomenon in a semiconductor ring laser(SRL). Not only self-mode-locked optical pulse but self-Q-switched optical pulse can be observed in a SRL. Furthermore, experimental results show that the repetition period of the Q-switched optical pulse train can be controlled by the injection current to a SRL.
