    In this paper, a novel pseudo-random noise complementary pair (PNCP) is proposed and adopted as the guard intervals in the time-domain synchronous OFDM (TDS-OFDM) system. The proposed PNCP has nearly ideal aperiodic auto-correlation property and inherits the differential property of the PN sequence. Simulations demonstrate the proposed TDS-OFDM system padded with PNCP could achieve better performance in both synchronization and channel estimation than the conventional TDS-OFDM system.

    This letter presents a novel multi-carrier code division multiple access (MC-CDMA) system called time domain synchronous MC-CDMA (TDS-MC-CDMA). Aided by the new training sequence (TS) with perfect autocorrelation in the time domain and flat frequency response in the frequency domain, the proposed TDS-MC-CDMA system outperform the traditional MC-CDMA system in terms of spectrum efficiency by about 10%. Simulations are carried out to demonstrate the good performance of the proposed scheme.

    Square root-raised-cosine (SRRC) filters are used in many systems for spectrum shaping, which leads to a high peak-to-average power ratio (PAPR). Nevertheless, some applications demand a low PAPR in terms of both the error performance and the strict restriction of the spectrum mask. In this letter, we propose a PAPR reduction method based on the modified active constellation extension for systems using SRRC filters. Results show that the proposed method substantially reduces the PAPR, and therefore it is applicable to satellite communications to improve the power efficiency at the transmitter.

    In this paper, a novel consecutive-pilot design is proposed to suppress phase noise (PHN) in orthogonal frequency-division multiplexing (OFDM) system. The estimation of PHN is performed by a cross-correlation between the received and locally generated pilots in frequency-domain. Simulations show that the proposed scheme can effectively ameliorate the impairment due to PHN, at the cost of acceptable additional transmission bandwidth and low implementation complexity.

    In this paper, a novel channel estimation method for time domain synchrotrons orthogonal frequency domain multiplexing (TDS-OFDM) based on training sequence cyclic reconstruction is proposed to eliminate residual inter-block interference (IBI); it estimates the channel impulse response (CIR) in an iterative manner. A simulation and analysis show that the proposed method can effectively perform the channel estimation over long-delay multipath channels with low complexity.

    LETTER-Noise and Vibration

      Page(s):
    870-873

    A narrowband interference (NBI) estimation and mitigation method based on compressive sensing (CS) for communication systems with repeated training sequences is investigated in this letter. The proposed CS-based differential measuring method is performed through the differential operation on the inter-block-interference-free regions of the received adjacent training sequences. The sparse NBI signal can be accurately recovered from a time-domain measurement vector of small size under the CS framework, without requiring channel information or dedicated resources. Theoretical analysis and simulation results show that the proposed method is robust to NBI under multi-path fading channels.

    Spectrum and Bit Error Rate (BER) performance of a coded π/2 phase shift Non-Square (NS) 8 Quadrature Amplitude Modulation (QAM) system are studied in this letter. The modulation process of this scheme removes all 180 phase shift between adjacent constellation points and contains inherent memory which can be treated as a type of inner coding in coded system. Simulation results show that this modulation scheme has much lower spectrum regrowth and better BER performance when passing through nonlinear channel compared with conventional mode.

    Based on the expectation-maximization (EM) algorithm, an iterative time-domain channel estimation approach capable of using a priori information is proposed for orthogonal frequency division multiplexing (OFDM) systems in this letter: it outperforms its noniterative counterpart in terms of estimation accuracy as well as bit error rate (BER) performance. Numerical simulations demonstrate that an SNR gain of 1 dB at BER=10-4 with only one iteration and estimation mean square error (MSE) which nearly coincides with the Cramer-Rao bound (CRB) in the low SNR region can be obtained, thanks to the efficient use of a priori information.

    This paper analyzes the conventional unequal erasure protection (UXP) scheme for scalable video transmission, and proposes a dynamic hybrid UXP/ARQ transmission framework to improve the performance of the conventional UXP method for bandwidth-constrained scalable video transmission. This framework applies automatic retransmission request (ARQ) to the conventional UXP scheme for scalable video transmission, and dynamically adjusts the transmission time budget of each group of picture (GOP) according to the feedback about the transmission results of the current and previous GOPs from the receiver. Moreover, the parameter of target video quality is introduced and optimized to adapt to the channel condition in pursuit of more efficient dynamic time allocation. In addition, considering the play-out deadline constraint, the time schedule for the proposed scalable video transmission system is presented. Simulation results show that compared with the conventional UXP scheme and its enhanced method, the average peak signal to noise ratio (PSNR) of the reconstructed video can be improved significantly over a wide range of packet loss rates. Besides, the visual quality fluctuation among the GOPs can be reduced for the video which has much movement change.

    LETTER-Noise and Vibration

      Vol:
    E94-A No:10
      Page(s):
    2027-2030

    To reduce the error of channel estimation caused by noise, a novel noise suppression method based on the degree of confidence is proposed in this paper. The false alarm and false dismissal probabilities, corresponding to noise being taken as part of channel impulse response (CIR) and part of the CIR being mis-detected as noise, respectively, are also investigated. A false alarm reduction method is therefore presented to reduce the false alarms in the estimated CIR while the mis-detection ratio still remains low. Simulation results show the effectiveness of the proposed method.

    In this paper, estimation accuracy of channel frequency response (CFR) according to least squared (LS) criterion with two transmit antennas for the time domain synchronous-orthogonal frequency division multiplexing (TDS-OFDM) system is investigated. To minimize the estimation variance, the conditions to guide the pseudo-noise (PN) sequence design are discussed and three training sequence design schemes are proposed accordingly. Simulations show that the proposed PN sequence design scheme is effective, while the implementation complexity for the channel estimation is low.

    1559-1565

    An improved spectrum sensing method based on PN autocorrelation (PNAC) for Digital Terrestrial Television Multimedia Broadcasting (DTMB) system is proposed in this paper. The low bound of miss-detection probability and the decision threshold for a given false alarm probability are studied. The performances of proposed method and existing methods are compared through computer simulations under both non-time dispersive channel and time dispersive channel. Simulation results show that the proposed method has better performance than the original PNAC-based method, and is more robust to both carrier frequency offset (CFO) and time dispersion of the channel than the existing method based on PN cross-correlation (PNCC).

    Amplitude phase shift keying (APSK) constellation with Gray mapping was proposed recently. Inspired by the simplified soft demapping for regular Gray-QAM, a simplified soft demapping algorithm for Gray-APSK is proposed in this paper. Compared with conventional soft demapping schemes, its complexity is greatly reduced with only a little SNR loss, which is validated by the complexity analysis and FPGA compilation results.
