  • Orthogonal and ZCZ Sets of Real-Valued Periodic Orthogonal Sequences from Huffman Sequences

    This paper presents a method of generating sets of orthogonal and zero-correlation zone (ZCZ) periodic real-valued sequences of period 2n, n ≥ 1. The sequences admit a fast correlation algorithm and the sets of sequences achieve the upper bound on family size. A periodic orthogonal sequence has the periodic autocorrelation function with zero sidelobes, and a set with orthogonal sequences whose mutual periodic crosscorrelation function at zero shift is zero. Similarly, a ZCZ set is the set of the sequences with zero-correlation zone. In this paper, we derive the real-valued periodic orthogonal sequences of period 2n from a real-valued Huffman sequence of length 2ν+1, ν being a positive integer and ν ≥ n, whose aperiodic autocorrelation function has zero sidelobes except possibly at the left and right shift-ends. The orthogonal and ZCZ sets of real-valued periodic orthogonal sequences are useful in various systems, such as synchronous code division multiple access (CDMA) systems, quasi-synchronous CDMA systems and digital watermarkings.

  • Hadamard-Type Matrices on Finite Fields and Complete Complementary Codes

    Hadamard matrix is defined as a square matrix where any components are -1 or +1, and where any pairs of rows are mutually orthogonal. In this work, we consider the similar matrix on finite field GF(p) where p is an odd prime. In such a matrix, every component is one of the integers on GF(p){0}, that is, {1,2,...,p-1}. Any additions and multiplications should be executed under modulo p. In this paper, a method to generate such matrices is proposed. In addition, the paper includes the applications to generate n-shift orthogonal sequences and complete complementary codes. The generated complete complementary code is a family of multi-valued sequences on GF(p){0}, where the number of sequence sets, the number of sequences in each sequence set and the sequence length depend on the various divisors of p-1. Such complete complementary codes with various parameters have not been proposed in previous studies.

    We have proposed a novel concept of a digital watermarking technique for music data that focuses on the use of sound synthesis and sound effect techniques. This paper describes the details of our proposed technique that employs the distortion effect, one of the most common sound effects frequently utilized especially for guitar and bass instruments. This paper describes the experimental results of evaluating the resistance of the proposed technique against some basic malicious attacks utilizing MP3 coding, tempo alteration, pitch alteration, and high-pass filtering. It is demonstrated that the proposed technique potentially has appropriate resistance against such attacks except for the high-pass filtering attack. A technique for increasing the resistance against the high-pass filtering attack is also supplementarily discussed.

  • Comparison of the Two Signal Design Methods in the CDMA Systems Using Complete Complementary Codes

    Some signal design methods for the approximately synchronized CDMA systems based on complete complementary codes have been proposed. It has been shown that estimating the multipath channels and applying the convolution of the spread signals can increase both the information transmission rate and frequency usage efficiency. There are some variations of such signal design methods using complete complementary codes. The efficiency of the communication systems and information transmission rate depend upon the applied signal design method and the modulation scheme. In this paper, we consider two of these signal design methods. We analyze the bit error rate (BER) performances for both methods through some numerical simulations under the single cell scenario. Numerical results show the BER properties under some modulation schemes such as BPSK, QPSK and 16QAM. Some discussions on the relation between the BER performance and the information transmission rate are also included.

    Data hiding techniques are usually applied into digital watermarking or digital fingerprinting, which is used to protect intellectual property rights or to avoid illegal copies of the original works. It has been pointed out that data hiding can be utilized as a communication medium. In conventional digital watermarking frameworks, it is required that the difference between the cover objects and the stego objects are quite small, such that the difference cannot be recognized by human sensory systems. On the other hand, the authors have proposed a ‘hearable’ data hiding technique for audio signals that can carry secret messages and can be naturally recognized as a musical piece by human ears. In this study, we extend the idea of the hearable data hiding into video signals by utilizing the visual effects. As visual effects, we employ fade-in and fade-out effects which can be used as a kind of visual rendering for scene transitions. In the proposed schemes, secret messages are generated as one-dimensional barcodes which are used for fade-in or fade-out effects. The present paper shows that the proposed schemes have the high accuracy in extracting the embedded messages even from the video signals captured by smartphones or tablets. It is also shown that the video signals conveying the embedded messages can be naturally recognized by human visual systems through subjective evaluation experiments.

  • Properties of a Convoluted-Time and Code Division Multiple Access Communication Systems Based upon Complete Complementary Codes

In this letter, the properties of this communication system are discussed and compared with those of the conventional CDMA systems using complete complementary codes.
