We propose a non-photorealistic rendering method for automatically generating point-light-style (PLS) images from photographic images using peripheral difference filters with different window sizes. The proposed method can express PLS patterns near the edges of photographic images as dots. To verify the effectiveness of the proposed method, experiments were conducted to visually confirm PLS images generated from various photographic images.

It is crucial to provide Internet videos with the best possible content value (or quality) to users. To adapt to network fluctuations, existing solutions provide various client-based heuristics to change video versions without considering the actual quality. In this work, we present for the first time the use of a quality model in making adaptation decisions to improve the overall quality. The proposed method also estimates the buffer level in the near future to prevent the client from buffer underflows. Experiment results show that the proposed method is able to provide high and consistent video quality under strongly fluctuating bandwidths.

This letter discusses the quality improvement of reconstructed images in diffraction tomography. An efficient iterative procedure based on the modified Newton-Kantorovich method and the Gerchberg-Papoulis algorithm is presented. The simulated results demonstrate the property of high-quality reconstruction even for cases where the first-order Born approximation fails.
