    Spatial modulation (SM) is a type of multiple-input multiple-output (MIMO) technology that provides several benefits over traditional MIMO systems. SM-MIMO is characterized by its unique transmission principle, which results in lower costs, enhanced spectrum utilization, and reduced inter-channel interference. To optimize channel estimation performance over frequency-selective channels in the spatial modulation system, cross Z-complementary pairs (CZCPs) have been proposed as training sequences. The zero correlation zone (ZCZ) properties of CZCPs for auto-correlation sums and cross-correlation sums enable them to achieve optimal channel estimation performance. In this paper, we systematically construct CZCPs based on binary Golay complementary pairs and binary Golay complementary pairs via Turyn’s method. We employ a special matrix operation and concatenation method to obtain CZCPs with new lengths 2M + N and 2(M + L), where M and L are the lengths of binary GCP, and N is the length of binary GCP via Turyn’s method. Further, we obtain the perfect CZCP with new length 4N and extend the lengths of CZCPs.

  • Design of Pattern Reconfigurable Printed Yagi-Uda Antenna

    This paper presents a pattern reconfigurable Yagi-Uda antenna on an FR-4 printed circuit board (PCB) for 2.435-2.465GHz-frequency short-range radiocommunication devices. To realize the antenna, pin diodes are attached onto the antenna's driven elements and parasitic elements. The direction of the beam is shifted by alternating the pin diodes status between ON and OFF to induce a quad-directional operation so that E-plane maximum beams are formed in the directions of 135°, 45°, 310° and 225° (i.e. regions 1, 2, 3, 4), respectively. A series of simulations are performed on four parameters: microstrip-to-CPS (coplanar stripline), inter-parasitic spacing, parasitic length, and modes of parasitic elements (i.e. director/reflector) to determine the optimal antenna design. A prototype is fabricated based on the optimal simulation results. The experiments showed very good agreement between the simulation and measured results with regard to the reflection coefficients, radiation patterns and gains for all four beams.

  • Networked Control System with Delay Adaptive Cyber-Physical Integration

    A Networked Control System (NCS) can be considered a form of Cyber-Physical System (CPS) with its network architecture and typical features, such as delay, jitter and package loss. So far, less discussion has been carried out for NCS from the view point of CPS. In this letter, the NCS with short delay is analyzed with cyber-physical integration. The sampling rate is depicted as one of the states in the state equations. The simulation results show that the cyber-physical integration not only adjusts the sampling rate to the states of the controlled physical system, but also adapts to the delay of the network. The averaged sampling rate and the stabilization time are smaller compared with the traditional NCS.

  • A Compact Single-Sided Horn-Shaped Tapered Bowtie Antenna for Ultra Wideband Radar and Communication Systems Applications

    This letter proposes a high-performance single-sided horn-shaped tapered bowtie antenna which is compact and covers more than the whole UWB frequency band. This design implements a bowtie radiating element and tapered strip-line feeder element on a single-sided dielectric substrate, which offers a measured return loss of less than -10 dB over the whole UWB frequency band of 3.0-10.8 GHz. The measured radiation pattern is bi-directional with consistent gain over the above frequency band. This compact-size design shows much enhanced performance, compared to the previously reported antenna, which is useful for UWB radar and communication applications.
