In color image processing, preservation of hue is required. Therefore, perceptual color models such as HSI and HSV have been used. Hue-Saturation-Intensity (HSI) is a public color model, and many color applications have been made based on this model. However, the transformation from the conventional HSI (C-HSI) color space to the RGB color space after processing intensity/saturation in the C-HSI color space often generates the gamut problem, because the shape of C-HSI color space is a triangular pyramid which includes the RGB color space. When the output of intensity/saturation processing result is located in the outside of the common region of RGB color space and C-HSI color space, it is necessary to move to the RGB color space. The effective way of hue and intensity preserving saturation correction algorithm is proposed. According to the proposed saturation correction algorithm, the corrected saturation value is same as the processing result in the ideal HSI color space whose gamut same as the RGB gamut.

In color image processing, hue-preserving is necessary for human being. In order to preserve the hue component, the perceptual color spaces such as HSI and HSV were used for the color image processing. The Hue-Saturation-Intensity (HSI) color space is important for color image processing and many color applications are commonly based on this color space. However, the gamut of conventional HSI color space is larger than that of RGB color space. Thus, the gamut problem is often occurred after the processing intensity and saturation in the HSI color space. In this paper, a new HSI color space with completely same gamut of RGB color space is developed. The gamut problem is solved by the proposed HSI color space.

While emphasizing the intensity or saturation component for getting high-quality color images, keeping the hue component unchanged is important; thus, perceptual color models such as HSI and HSV have been used. Hue-Saturation-Intensity (HSI) is a public color model, and many color applications are commonly based on this model. However, the transformation from the HSI color space to the RGB color space after processing intensity/saturation in the HSI color space usually generates the gamut problem. In this study, we clear the relationship between the RGB gamut and the HSI gamut completely. According to the result, we can check whether the processing result is located inside or outside of the RGB gamut without transforming to the RGB color space. If the processing result is judged outside of the RGB gamut, we apply the effective way of hue preserving correction algorithm which is proposed in this study to the saturation component. Experimental results demonstrate that the proposed algorithm can correct the color distortion caused by the enhancement without reducing the visual effect and it is especially useful for images with rich colors and local high component values.

This paper describes a vision-based and real-time system for detecting road signs from within a moving vehicle. The system architecture which is proposed in this paper consists of two parts, the learning and the detection part of road sign images. The proposed system has the standard architecture with adaboost algorithm. Adaboost is a popular algorithm which used to detect an object in real time. To improve the detection rate of adaboost algorithm, this paper proposes a new combination method of classifiers in every stage. In the case of detecting road signs in real environment, it can be ambiguous to decide to which class input images belong. To overcome this problem, we propose a method that applies fuzzy measure and fuzzy integral which use the importance and the evaluated values of classifiers within one stage. It is called fuzzy-boosting in this paper. Also, to improve the speed of a road sign detection algorithm using adaboost at the detection step, we propose a method which chooses several candidates by using MC generator. In this paper, as the sub-windows of chosen candidates pass classifiers which are made from fuzzy-boosting, we decide whether a road sign is detected or not. Using experiment result, we analyze and compare the detection speed and the classification error rate of the proposed algorithm applied to various environment and condition.

Various mixed-signal very-high-speed integrated circuits have been developed using InP DHBTs. These circuits have been designed for fiber-optic 43 Gbit/s transmissions applications. They include: on the transmitting side, a clocked driver and an EAM driver, as well as a PSBT/DQPSK precoder; on the receiving side, a sensitive decision circuit, a limiting amplifier and an eye monitor. System experiments made possible by these circuits include a 6 Tbit/s transmission on >6000 km distance.

We propose a new field of application for machine vision, a machine-vision-based cash-register system. We show that the overall system of color analysis for such an application should include the method of color distribution analysis which we propose, and that the analysis of shape and size is important. We present our test results and identify a few technical issues which may have to be considered for its practical utilization.

Optical Frequency Division Multiplexing (OFDM) is an attractive multiplexing approach for exploiting optical communication technology. Although considerable progress has been made in this approach, it still suffers from numerous potential impairments, stemming from several phenomena. (i.e., laser unstability, residual temperature variations, linear and nonlinear cross talk.). Conventional serial coding technique is not practical in lightwave systems, as it changes the system's bit rate that is not desirable. In this paper a new Parallel Coded Optical Multicarrier Frequency Division Multiplexing (PCOM-FDM) technique has been investigated. The strategy of multicarriers, together with Parallel Forward Error Control (PFEC) coding, is a potentially novel approach as in this approach we have, 1) Investigated optical multicarrier communication that is effective in combating dispersion and increasing throughput, 2) Proposed PFEC coding which is different from conventional serial coding in respect that it does not change the system bit rate per carrier and prevents the effects of channel wandering. It is highly desirable in lightwave systems and thus holds a vital importance in practical high speed optical communication systems. Theoretical treatment shows that the proposed approach is promising and practical.
