  • A Game Theoretic Model for AS Topology Formation with the Scale-Free Property

    Recent studies investigating the Internet topology reported that inter Autonomous System (AS) topology exhibits a power-law degree distribution which is known as the scale-free property. Although there are many models to generate scale-free topologies, no game theoretic approaches have been proposed yet. In this paper, we propose the new dynamic game theoretic model for the AS level Internet topology formation. Through numerical simulations, we show our process tends to give emergence of the topologies which have the scale-free property especially in the case of large decay parameters and large random link costs. The significance of our study is summarized as following three topics. Firstly, we show that scale-free topologies can also emerge from the game theoretic model. Secondly, we propose the new dynamic process of the network formation game for modeling a process of AS topology formation, and show that our model is appropriate in the micro and macro senses. In the micro sense, our topology formation process is appropriate because this represents competitive and distributed situation observed in the real AS level Internet topology formation process. In the macro sense, some of statistical properties of emergent topologies from our process are similar to those of which also observed in the real AS level Internet topology. Finally, we demonstrate the numerical simulations of our process which is deterministic variation of dynamic process of network formation game with transfers. This is also the new result in the field of the game theory.

  • Complex Sensor Event Processing for Business Process Integration

    Ubiquitous technologies such as sensor network and RFID have enabled companies to realize more rapid and agile manufacturing and service systems. In this paper, we addresses how the huge amount of real-time events coming from these devices can be filtered and integrated to business process such as manufacturing, logistics, and supply chain process. In particular, we focus on complex event processing of sensor and RFID events in order to integrate them to business rules in business activities. We also illustrate a ubiquitous event processing system, named ueFilter, which helps to filter and aggregate sensor event, to detect event patterns from sensors and RFID by means of event pattern languages (EPL), and trigger event-condition-action (ECA) in logistics processes.

  • Measurement of Complex Permittivity for Liquid Materials Using the Open-Ended Cut-Off Waveguide Reflection Method

    Various studies of specific absorption rates (SARs) using liquid phantoms imitating human body tissues have been widely carried out in electromagnetic compatibility (EMC) research fields. In order to establish accurate SARs for measurement, a faithful mockup of human body tissue is needed. Therefore, knowledge of the accurate measurement of sample materials with high permittivity and high loss is very important. In this study, the complex permittivity of tap water, ethanol, methanol and isopropanol is measured by the open-ended cut-off circular waveguide reflection method. The effectiveness of the method presented here of measuring a liquid phantom with high-permittivity and high-loss is also confirmed by comparing the measured results with the results obtained by the TM010 circular cavity resonator method. At this time, the effects on the input impedance under variations of the insertion length and termination conditions were studied. Then the complex permittivity of tap water, ethanol, methanol and isopropanol was measured at frequencies ranging from 0.5 to 3.0 GHz using the measurement procedure above. As a result, we confirmed the frequency characteristics of the complex permittivity for a wide variety of high-loss liquid materials.

    A disentanglement puzzle consists of mechanically interlinked pieces, and the puzzle is solved by disentangling one piece from another set of pieces. A cast puzzle is a type of disentanglement puzzle, where each piece is a zinc die-casting alloy. In this paper, we consider the generalized cast puzzle problem whose input is the layout of a finite number of pieces (polyhedrons) in the 3-dimensional Euclidean space. For every integer k ≥ 0, we present a polynomial-time transformation from an arbitrary k-exponential-space Turing machine M and its input x to a cast puzzle c1 of size k-exponential in |x| such that M accepts x if and only if c1 is solvable. Here, the layout of c1 is encoded as a string of length polynomial (even if c1 has size k-exponential). Therefore, the cast puzzle problem of size k-exponential is k-EXPSPACE-hard for every integer k ≥ 0. We also present a polynomial-time transformation from an arbitrary instance f of the SAT problem to a cast puzzle c2 such that f is satisfiable if and only if c2 is solvable.

    Recently a simple proof of Jury test for complex polynomials was given by the author. In this letter further extended results are presented. Another elementary proof of the Schur stability condition is provided. More importantly it is shown that the stability table can also be used to determine the root distribution of complex polynomials with respect to the unit circle in the complex plane.

  • A Randomness Test Based on T-Complexity

    We propose a randomness test based on the T-complexity of a sequence, which can be calculated using a parsing algorithm called T-decomposition. Recently, the Lempel-Ziv (LZ) randomness test based on LZ-complexity using the LZ78 incremental parsing was officially excluded from the NIST test suite in NIST SP 800-22. This is caused from the problem that the distribution of P-values for random sequences of length 106 is strictly discrete for the LZ-complexity. Our proposed test can overcome this problem because T-complexity has almost ideal continuous distribution of P-values for random sequences of length 106. We also devise a new sequential T-decomposition algorithm using forward parsing, while the original T-decomposition is an off-line algorithm using backward parsing. Our proposed test can become a supplement to NIST SP 800-22 because it can detect several undesirable pseudo-random numbers that the NIST test suite almost fails to detect.

  • A Novel Predistorter Design for Nonlinear Power Amplifier with Memory Effects in OFDM Communication Systems Using Orthogonal Polynomials

    Orthogonal frequency division multiplexing (OFDM) signals have high peak-to-average power ratio (PAPR) and cause large nonlinear distortions in power amplifiers (PAs). Memory effects in PAs also become no longer ignorable for the wide bandwidth of OFDM signals. Digital baseband predistorter is a highly efficient technique to compensate the nonlinear distortions. But it usually has many parameters and takes long time to converge. This paper presents a novel predistorter design using a set of orthogonal polynomials to increase the convergence speed and the compensation quality. Because OFDM signals are approximately complex Gaussian distributed, the complex Hermite polynomials which have a closed-form expression can be used as a set of orthogonal polynomials for OFDM signals. A differential envelope model is adopted in the predistorter design to compensate nonlinear PAs with memory effects. This model is superior to other predistorter models in parameter number to calculate. We inspect the proposed predistorter performance by using an OFDM signal referred to the IEEE 802.11a WLAN standard. Simulation results show that the proposed predistorter is efficient in compensating memory PAs. It is also demonstrated that the proposal acquires a faster convergence speed and a better compensation effect than conventional predistorters.

  • Frequency Dependence Measurements of Complex Permittivity of Dielectric Plates Using TE0m1 Modes in a Circular Cavity

    A circular cavity resonance method is improved to measure the frequency dependence of complex permittivity of a dielectric plate by using multimode TE0m1 with integer m. The measurement principle is based on a rigorous analysis by the Ritz-Galerkin method. A new circular cavity with lowered height is designed from a mode chart of a cavity to decrease the number of unwanted modes near the TE0m1 modes. A copper cavity having 20 GHz for the TE011 mode was constructed based on this design. For glass cloth PTFE, RT/duroid 6010 and FR-4 dielectric plates, the frequency dependences are measured from resonant frequencies for the TE0m1 (m = 1, 2, 3 ...) modes. These measured results agree well with ones measured by using the conventional four different size cavities with TE011 mode. It is verified that the designed cavity structure is useful to measure the frequency dependence of low loss dielectric plates.

    Correction factors are presented for estimating the RF electromagnetic field strength in the compliance assessment of human exposure from an indoor RF radio source in the frequency range from 800 MHz to 3.5 GHz. The correction factors are derived from the increase in the spatial average electric field strength distribution, which is dependent on the building materials. The spatial average electric field strength is calculated using relative complex dielectric constants of building materials. The relative complex dielectric constant is obtained through measurement of the transmission and reflection losses for eleven kinds of building materials used in business office buildings and single family dwellings.

    For an arbitrary set B of Boolean functions satisfying a certain condition, we give a general method of constructing a class CB of read-once Boolean formulas over the basis B that has the following property: For any F in CB, F can be transformed to an optimal formula (i.e., a simplest formula over the standard basis {AND, OR, NOT}) by replacing each occurrence of a basis function h ∈ B in F with an optimal formula for h. For a particular set of basis functions B* = {AND,OR,NOT,XOR,MUX}, we give a canonical form representation for CB* so that the set of canonical form formulas consists of only NPN-representatives in CB*.

    This letter investigates the space complexity of the sender buffer in a TCP variant, TCP-PR, to deal with packet reordering. Our finding is that with the SACK option used, TCP-PR requires the sender buffer of (β+1) pipesize where β indicates the number of RTTs that must pass before packet loss is detected.

    This paper investigates the closure properties of 1-inkdot nondeterministic Turing machines and 1-inkdot alternating Turing machines with only universal states which have sublogarithmic space. We show for example that the classes of sets accepted by these Turing machines are not closed under length-preserving homomorphism, concatenation with regular set, Kleene closure, and complementation.

    Differing from the long-term prediction used in the modern speech codec, the standard of the internet low bit rate codec (iLBC) independently encodes the residual of the linear predictive coding (LPC) frame by frame. In this paper, a complexity scalability design is proposed for the coding of the dynamic codebook search in the iLBC speech codec. In addition, a trade-off between the computational complexity and the speech quality can be achieved by dynamically setting the parameter of the proposed approach. Simulation results show that the computational complexity can be effectively reduced with imperceptible degradation of the speech quality.

  • A Unified Distortion Analysis of Nonlinear Power Amplifiers with Memory Effects for OFDM Signals

    Nonlinear distortions in power amplifiers (PAs) generate spectral regrowth at the output, which causes interference to adjacent channels and errors in digitally modulated signals. This paper presents a novel method to evaluate adjacent channel leakage power ratio (ACPR) and error vector magnitude (EVM) from the amplitude-to-amplitude (AM/AM) and amplitude-to-phase (AM/PM) characteristics. The transmitted signal is considered to be complex Gaussian distributed in orthogonal frequency-division multiplexing (OFDM) systems. We use the Mehler formula to derive closed-form expressions of the PAs output power spectral density (PSD), ACPR and EVM for memoryless PA and memory PA respectively. We inspect the derived relationships using an OFDM signal in the IEEE 802.11a WLAN standard. Simulation results show that the proposed method is appropriate to predict the ACPR and EVM values of the nonlinear PA output in OFDM systems, when the AM/AM and AM/PM characteristics are known.

    This paper proposes a novel system called the cyclic prefix reconstructable time domain synchronous orthogonal frequency division multiplexing ( CPR-TDS-OFDM ) system, which uses a new frame structure and restores the cyclicity of the received OFDM block with low complexity. Simulation results show that the CPR-TDS-OFDM system outperforms the conventional TDS-OFDM system in high-speed fading channels.

    In this study, a computationally efficient ranging scheme exploiting a minimum mean square error (MMSE) and a matrix-pencil (MP) technique is proposed for the IEEE 802.15.4a chirp spread spectrum (CSS) system. Based on the characteristics of the CSS signal, a practical methodology for the MMSE process is devised and the appropriate values of parameters, which are cutoff bandwidth, number of samples and sampling duration in frequency domain, are investigated and numerically determined to enhance the performance. The performance of proposed scheme is analyzed in terms of the computational complexity and the ranging estimation errors. Simulation results demonstrate that the proposed scheme performs as well as the conventional scheme at remarkably reduced computational costs.

    An inverter is a circuit which outputs ¬ x1, ¬ x2, ..., ¬ xn for any Boolean inputs x1, x2, ..., xn. We consider constructing an inverter with AND gates and OR gates and a few NOT gates. Beals, Nishino and Tanaka have given a construction of an inverter which has size O(nlog n) and depth O(log n) and uses ⌈ log (n+1) ⌉ NOT gates. In this paper we give a construction of an inverter which has size O(n) and depth log 1+o(1)n and uses log 1+o(1)n NOT gates. This is the first negation-limited inverter of linear size using only o(n) NOT gates. We also discuss implications of our construction for negation-limited circuit complexity.

    Recently some attempts have been made in the literature to give simple proofs of Jury test for real polynomials. This letter presents a similar result for complex polynomials. A simple proof of Jury test for complex polynomials is provided based on the Rouche's Theorem and a single-parameter characterization of Schur stability property for complex polynomials.

    This letter investigates the space-time block codes from quasi-orthogonal design as a tradeoff between high transmission rate and low decoding complexity. By studying the role orthogonality plays in space-time block codes, upper bound of transmission rate and lower bound of decoding complexity for quasi-orthogonal design are claimed. From this point of view, novel algorithms are developed to construct specific quasi-orthogonal designs achieving these bounds.
