In this paper, we provide a novel solution to mitigate pilot contamination in massive MIMO technology. In the proposed approach, we consider seven copilot cells of the first layer of interfering cells of a cellular network. We derive and formulate the worst-case signal-to-interference power ratio (SIR) of a typical user in both downlink and uplink of a pilot contaminated cell. Based on the formulated SIR and other considerations of the system, the total pilot sequence length, the reliability of channel estimation within the cell, the spectral and energy efficiencies are derived and formulated in downlink. The user's transmit power and the achievable sum rate are also derived and formulated in uplink. Our results show that when the cell size is reduced the pilot contamination is significantly mitigated and hence the system performance is improved.

In this paper, operator-based reset control for a class of nonlinear systems with unknown bounded disturbance is considered using right coprime factorization approach. In detail, firstly, for dealing with the unknown bounded disturbance of the nonlinear systems, operator-based reset control framework is proposed based on right coprime factorization. By the proposed framework, robust stability of the nonlinear systems with unknown bounded disturbance is guaranteed by using the proposed reset controller. Secondly, under the reset control framework, an optimal design scheme is discussed for minimizing the error norm based on the proposed operator-based reset controller. Finally, for conforming effectiveness of the proposed design scheme, a simulation example is given.

In this work, a multiple source separation method with joint sparse and non-sparse components recovery is proposed by using dual similarity determination. Specifically, a dual similarity coefficient is designed based on normalized cross-correlation and Jaccard coefficients, and its reasonability is validated via a statistical analysis on a quantitative effective measure. Thereafter, by regarding the sparse components as a guide, the non-sparse components are recovered using the dual similarity coefficient. Eventually, a separated signal is obtained by a synthesis of the sparse and non-sparse components. Experimental results demonstrate the separation quality of the proposed method outperforms some existing BSS methods including sparse components separation based methods, independent components analysis based methods and soft threshold based methods.

We develop a technique for representing variable names and name binding which is a mechanism of associating a name with an entity in many formal systems including logic, programming languages and mathematics. The idea is to use a general form of graph links (or edges) called hyperlinks to represent variables, graph nodes as constructors of the formal systems, and a graph type called hlground to define substitutions. Our technique is based on simple notions of graph theory in which graph types ensure correct substitutions and keep bound variables distinct. We encode strong reduction of the untyped λ-calculus to introduce our technique. Then we encode a more complex formal system called System F<:, a polymorphic λ-calculus with subtyping that has been one of important theoretical foundations of functional programming languages. The advantage of our technique is that the representation of terms, definition of substitutions, and implementation of formal systems are all straightforward. We formalized the graph type hlground, proved that it ensures correct substitutions in the λ-calculus, and implemented hlground in HyperLMNtal, a modeling language based on hypergraph rewriting. Experiments were conducted to test this technique. By this technique, one can implement formal systems simply by following the steps of their definitions as described in papers.

To help with decision making, online shoppers tend to go through both a list of a product's features and functionality provided by the vendor, as well as a list of reviews written by other users. Unfortunately, this process is ineffective when the buyer is confronted with large amounts of information, particularly when the buyer has limited experience with and knowledge of the product. In order to avoid this problem, we propose a framework of purpose-oriented recommendation that presents a ranked list of products suitable for a designated user purpose by identifying important product features to fulfill the purpose from online reviews. As technical foundation for realizing the framework, we propose several methods to mine relation between user purposes and product features from the consumer reviews. Using digital camera reviews on Amazon.com, the experimental results show that our proposed method is both effective and stable, with an acceptable rate of precision and recall.

Knowledge management is important for government agencies in improving service delivery to their customers and data inter-operation within and across organizations. Building organizational knowledge repository for government agency has unique challenges. In this paper, we propose that enterprise ontology can provide support for government agencies in capturing organizational taxonomy, best practices and global data schema. A case study of a large-scale adoption for the Thailand's Excise Department is elaborated. A modular design approach of the enterprise ontology for the excise tax domain is discussed. Two forms of organizational knowledge: global schema and standard practices were captured in form of ontology and rule-based knowledge. The organizational knowledge was deployed to support two KM systems: excise recommender service and linked open data. Finally, we discuss some lessons learned in adopting the framework in the government agency.

In current large-scale IT systems, troubleshooting has become more complicated due to the diversification in the causes of failures, which has increased operational costs. Thus, clarifying the troubleshooting process also becomes important, though it is also time-consuming. We propose a method of automatically extracting a workflow, a graph indicating a troubleshooting process, using multiple trouble tickets. Our method extracts an operator's actions from free-format texts and aligns relative sentences between multiple trouble tickets. Our method uses a stochastic model to detect a resolution, a frequent action pattern that helps us understand how to solve a problem. We validated our method using real trouble-ticket data captured from a real network operation and showed that it can extract a workflow to identify the cause of a failure.

Existing remote collaboration systems are not suitable for a collaboration style where distributed users touch work tools at the same time, especially in demanding use cases or in severe network situations. To cover a wider range of use cases, we propose a novel concept of a remote collaboration platform that enables the users to share currently-used work tools with a high quality A/V transmission module, while maintaining the advantages of web-based systems. It also provides functions to deal with long transmission delay using relay servers, packet transmission instability using visual feedback of audio delivery and limited bandwidth using dynamic allocation of video bitrate. We implemented the platform and conducted evaluation tests. The results show the feasibility of the proposed concept and its tolerance to network constraints, which indicates that the proposed platform can construct unprecedented collaboration systems.

In recent years, networking has spread substantially owing to the rapid developments made in Information & Communication Technology (ICT). It has also become easy to share highly contextual data and information, including ideas, among people. On the other hand, there exists information that cannot be expressed in words (tacit knowledge) and useful knowledge or know-how that is not shared well in an organization. The idea generation method enables the expression of explicit knowledge, which enables the expression of tacit knowledge by words, and can utilize explicit knowledge as know-how in organizations. We propose an idea generation consistent support system, GUNGEN-Web II. This system has suggestion functions for a concrete idea label and a concrete island name. The suggestion functions convey an idea and the island name to other participants more precisely. This system also has an illustration support function and a document support function. In this study, we aimed to improve the quality of the sentence obtained using the KJ method. We compared the results of our proposed systems with conventional GUNGEN-Web by conducting experiments. The results are as follows: The evaluation of the sentence of GUNGEN-Web II was significantly different to those obtained using the conventional GUNGEN-Web.

Given the worldwide proliferation of cyberattacks, it is imperative that cybersecurity education and training are addressed in a timely manner. These activities typically require trainees to do hands-on practice in order to consolidate and improve their skills, for which purpose training environments called cyber ranges are used. In this paper we present an open-source system named CyRIS (Cyber Range Instantiation System) that supports this endeavor by fully automating the training environment setup, thus making it possible for any organization to conduct more numerous and variate training activities. CyRIS uses a text-based representation in YAML format to describe the characteristics of the training environment, including both environment setup and security content generation. Based on this description, CyRIS automatically creates the corresponding cyber range instances on a computer and network infrastructure, for simultaneous use by multiple trainees. We have evaluated CyRIS in various realistic scenarios, and our results demonstrate its suitability for cybersecurity education and training, both in terms of features and performance, including for large-scale training sessions with hundreds of participants.

Evolvable hardware (EHW) based on field-programmable gate arrays (FPGAs) opens up new possibilities towards building efficient adaptive system. State of the art EHW systems based on virtual reconfiguration and dynamic partial reconfiguration (DPR) both have their limitations. The former has a huge area overhead and circuit delay, and the later has slow configuration speed and low flexibility. Therefore a general low-cost fast hybrid reconfiguration architecture is proposed in this paper, which merges the high flexibility of virtual reconfiguration and the low resource cost of DPR. Moreover, the bitstream relocation technology is introduced to save the bitstream storage space, and the discrepancy configuration technology is adopted to reduce reconfiguration time. And an embedded RAM core is adopted to store bitstreams which accelerate the reconfiguration speed further. The proposed architecture is evaluated by the online evolution of digital image filter implemented on the Xilinx Virtex-6 FPGA development board ML605. And the experimental results show that our system has lower resource overhead, higher operating frequency, faster reconfiguration speed and less bitstream storage space in comparison with the previous works.

In this paper, we first propose two batch blind source separation and equalization algorithms based on support vector regression (SVR) for linear time-invariant multiple input multiple output (MIMO) systems. The proposed algorithms combine the conventional cost function of SVR with error functions of classical on-line algorithm for blind equalization: both error functions of constant modulus algorithm (CMA) and radius directed algorithm (RDA) are contained in the penalty term of SVR. To recover all sources simultaneously, the cross-correlations of equalizer outputs are included in the cost functions. Simulation experiments show that the proposed algorithms can recover all sources successfully and compensate channel distortion simultaneously. With the use of iterative re-weighted least square (IRWLS) solution of SVR, the proposed algorithms exhibit low computational complexity. Compared with traditional algorithms, the new algorithms only require fewer samples to achieve convergence and perform a lower residual interference. For multilevel signals, the single algorithms based on constant modulus property usually show a relatively high residual error, then we propose two dual-mode blind source separation and equalization schemes. Between them, the dual-mode scheme based on SVR merely requires fewer samples to achieve convergence and further reduces the residual interference.

Hadoop is a popular open-source MapReduce implementation. In the cases of jobs, wherein huge scale of output files of all relevant Map tasks are transmitted into Reduce tasks, such as TeraSort, the Reduce tasks are the bottleneck tasks and are I/O bounded for processing many large output files. In most cases, including TeraSort, the intermediate data, which include the output files of the Map tasks, are large and accessed sequentially. For improving the performance of these jobs, it is important to increase the sequential access performance. In this paper, we propose methods for improving the performance of Reduce tasks of such jobs by considering the following two things. One is that these files are accessed sequentially on an HDD, and the other is that each zone in an HDD has different sequential I/O performance. The proposed methods control the location to store intermediate data by modifying block bitmap of filesystem, which manages utilization (free or used) of blocks in an HDD. In addition, we propose striping layout for applying these methods for virtualized environment using image files. We then present performance evaluation of the proposed method and demonstrate that our methods improve the Hadoop application performance.

Wireless Sensor Networks (WSNs) are randomly deployed in a hostile environment and left unattended. These networks are composed of small auto mouse sensor devices which can monitor target information and send it to the Base Station (BS) for action. The sensor nodes can easily be compromised by an adversary and the compromised nodes can be used to inject false vote or false report attacks. To counter these two kinds of attacks, the Probabilistic Voting-based Filtering Scheme (PVFS) was proposed by Li and Wu, which consists of three phases; 1) Key Initialization and assignment, 2) Report generation, and 3) En-route filtering. This scheme can be a successful countermeasure against these attacks, however, when one or more nodes are compromised, the re-distribution of keys is not handled. Therefore, after a sensor node or Cluster Head (CH) is compromised, the detection power and effectiveness of PVFS is reduced. This also results in adverse effects on the sensor network's lifetime. In this paper, we propose a Fuzzy Rule-based Key Redistribution Method (FRKM) to address the limitations of the PVFS. The experimental results confirm the effectiveness of the proposed method by improving the detection power by up to 13.75% when the key-redistribution period is not fixed. Moreover, the proposed method achieves an energy improvement of up to 9.2% over PVFS.

This paper proposes a novel method of reducing channel state information (CSI) feedback by using transmit antenna selection for downlink multiuser multiple input multiple output (DL-MU-MIMO) transmission in dense distributed antenna systems. It is widely known that DL-MU-MIMO transmission achieves higher total bit-rate by mitigating inter-user interference based on pre-coding techniques. The pre-coding techniques require CSI between access point (AP) and multiple users. However, overhead for CSI acquisition degrades the transmission efficiency of DL-MU-MIMO transmission. In the proposed CSI feedback reduction method, AP first selects the antenna set that maximizes the received power at each user, second it skips the sequence of CSI feedback for users whose signal to interference power ratio is larger than a threshold, and finally it performs DL-MU-MIMO transmission to multiple users by using the selected antenna set. To clarify the proposed method, we evaluate it by computer simulations in an indoor scenario. The results show that the proposed method can offer higher transmission efficiency than the conventional DL-MU-MIMO transmission with the usual CSI feedback method.

In this paper, we consider a similarity control problem for nondeterministic discrete event systems, which requires us to synthesize a nonblocking supervisor such that the supervised plant is simulated by a given specification. We assume that a supervisor can observe not only the event occurrence but also the current state of the plant. We present a necessary and sufficient condition for the existence of a nonblocking supervisor that solves the similarity control problem and show how to verify it in polynomial time. Moreover, when the existence condition of a nonblocking supervisor is satisfied, we synthesize such a supervisor as a solution to the similarity control problem.

This paper proposes a consensus-based distributed Particle Swarm Optimization (PSO) algorithm with event-triggered communications for a non-convex and non-differentiable optimization problem. We consider a multi-agent system whose local communications among agents are represented by a fixed and connected graph. Each agent has multiple particles as estimated solutions of global optima and updates positions of particles by an average consensus dynamics on an auxiliary variable that accumulates the past information of the own objective function. In contrast to the existing time-triggered approach, the local communications are carried out only when the difference between the current auxiliary variable and the variable at the last communication exceeds a threshold. We show that the global best can be estimated in a distributed way by the proposed event-triggered PSO algorithm under a diminishing condition of the threshold for the trigger condition.

In this paper, we study a control problem of a concurrent discrete event system, where several subsystems are partially synchronized via shared events, under local and global constraints described by linear temporal logic formulas. We propose a hierarchical control architecture consisting of local supervisors and a coordinator. While the supervisors ensure the local requirements, the coordinator decides which shared events to be disabled so as to satisfy the global specification. First, we construct Rabin games to obtain local supervisors. Next, we reduce them based on shared transitions. Finally, we construct a global Rabin game from the reduced supervisors and a deterministic Rabin automaton that accepts every run satisfying the global specification. By solving it, we obtain a coordinator that disables shared events to guarantee the global requirement. Moreover, the concurrent system controlled by the coordinator and the local supervisors is deadlock-free.

Event-triggered control is a method that the control input is updated only when a certain triggering condition is satisfied. In networked control systems, quantization errors via A/D conversion should be considered. In this paper, a new method for quantized event-triggered control with switching triggering conditions is proposed. For a discrete-time linear system, we consider the problem of finding a state-feedback controller such that the closed-loop system is uniformly ultimately bounded in a certain ellipsoid. This problem is reduced to an LMI (Linear Matrix Inequality) optimization problem. The volume of the ellipsoid may be adjusted. The effectiveness of the proposed method is presented by a numerical example.
