  • A Robust Audio Watermarking Scheme Using Wavelet Modulation

    A novel audio watermarking based on wavelet modulation is presented. The watermark signals are constructed by M-band wavelet modulation that can increase redundancy to improve the detection performance. In order to maximize the watermarking strength within the perceptual constraints, the watermark signals synthesized from different subbands are separately masked using a frequency auditory model. CDMA technique is implemented to achieve watermarking capacity. Experimental results show that this method is very robust.

  • Single-Image 3D Pose Estimation for Texture-Less Object via Symmetric Prior

    Extracting 3D information from a single image is an interesting but ill-posed problem. Especially for those artificial objects with less texture such as smooth metal devices, the decrease of object detail makes the problem more challenging. Aiming at the texture-less object with symmetric structure, this paper proposes a novel method for 3D pose estimation from a single image by introducing implicit structural symmetry and context constraint as priori-knowledge. Firstly, by parameterized representation, the texture-less object is decomposed into a series of sub-objects with regular geometric primitives. Accordingly, the problem of 3D pose estimation is converted to a parameter estimation problem, which is implemented by primitive fitting algorithm. Then, the context prior among sub-objects is introduced for parameter refinement via the augmentedLagrange optimization. The effectiveness of the proposed method is verified by the experiments based on simulated and measured data.

  • Data-Adapted Volume Rendering for Scattered Point Data

    In this letter, we present a novel method for reconstructing continuous data field from scattered point data, which leads to a more characteristic visualization result by volume rendering. The gradient distribution of scattered point data is analyzed for local feature investigation via singular-value decomposition. A data-adaptive ellipsoidal shaped function is constructed as the penalty function to evaluate point weight coefficient in MLS approximation. The experimental results show that the proposed method can reduce the reconstruction error and get a visualization with better feature discrimination.

  • Adaptive Insertion and Promotion Policies Based on Least Recently Used Replacement

    To improve Last-Level Cache (LLC) management, numerous approaches have been proposed requiring additional hardware budget and increased overhead. A number of these approaches even change the organization of the existing cache design. In this letter, we propose Adaptive Insertion and Promotion (AIP) policies based on Least Recently Used (LRU) replacement. AIP dynamically inserts a missed line in the middle of the cache list and promotes a reused line several steps left, realizing the combination of LRU and LFU policies deliberately under a single unified scheme. As a result, it benefits workloads with high locality as well as with many frequently reused lines. Most importantly, AIP requires no additional hardware other than a typical LRU list, thus it can be easily integrated into the existing hardware with minimal changes. Other issues around LLC such as scans, thrashing and dead lines are all explored in our study. Experimental results on the gem5 simulator with SPEC CUP2006 benchmarks indicate that AIP outperforms LRU replacement policy by an average of 5.8% on the misses per thousand instructions metric.

  • A Fuzzy Routing Method in UAV Delay Tolerant Networks

    Hovering unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs) with mutual sense and communication capability form a new-fashioned airborne ad hoc network. Traditional routing protocols assume that there has already existed an end-to-end path before the message forwarding starts which, however, is not always available in the airborne network featuring randomly violent topological changes. Local heuristic information without complex computational cost should be considered to help route in this specific delay tolerant network (DTN). In this letter, we take Crowd Density (CD) and Relative Velocity Direction (RVD) as the fuzzy inputs, and use approximate reasoning to calculate priority of alternative candidates. Finally, the proposed mechanism is compared with some existing protocols.

    An intra refresh matrix, which models the importance of each macroblock, is first created. This matrix can be used to decide the coding mode of the macroblocks. The proposed technique can greatly improve the decoded video quality over the variable and error-prone channel with high packet loss rate.

    Low noise terahertz (THz) receivers based on superconducting niobium nitride (NbN) hot electron bolometer (HEB) mixers have been designed, fabricated and measured for applications in astronomy and cosmology. The NbN HEB mixer consists of a planar antenna and an NbN bridge connecting across the antenna's inner terminals on a high-resistivity Si substrate. To eliminate the influence of direct detection and instability of the local oscillation (LO) power, a wire grid has been used to change the input LO power for compensating the shift of bias current during Y-factor measurement. The double sideband (DSB) receiver noise temperatures at 4.2 K without corrections have been measured from 0.65 to 3.1 THz. The excess quantum noise factor β of about 4 has been obtained, which agrees well with the calculated value. Allan variance of the HEB has been characterized, and Allan time TA longer than 0.4 s is obtained. We also estimated the temperature resolution of the HEB from the Allan variance and obtained the minimum temperature resolution of 1.1 K using a Gunn oscillator with its multipliers at 0.65 THz as an LO source.
