Boolean functions with a few Walsh spectral values have important applications in sequence ciphers and coding theory. In this paper, we first construct a class of Boolean functions with at most five-valued Walsh spectra by using the secondary construction of Boolean functions, in particular, plateaued functions are included. Then, we construct three classes of Boolean functions with five-valued Walsh spectra using Kasami functions and investigate the Walsh spectrum distributions of the new functions. Finally, three classes of minimal linear codes with five-weights are obtained, which can be used to design secret sharing scheme with good access structures.

Despite the appealing advantages of reconfigurable intelligent surfaces (RIS) aided mmWave communications, there remain practical issues that need to be addressed before the large-scale deployment of RISs in future wireless networks. In this study, we jointly consider the non-neglectable practical issues in a multi-RIS-aided mmWave system, which can significantly affect the secrecy performance, including the high computational complexity, imperfect channel state information (CSI), and finite resolution of phase shifters. To solve this non-convex challenging stochastic optimization problem, we propose a robust and low-complexity algorithm to maximize the achievable secrete rate. Specially, by combining the benefits of fractional programming and the stochastic successive convex approximation techniques, we transform the joint optimization problem into some convex ones and solve them sub-optimally. The theoretical analysis and simulation results demonstrate that the proposed algorithms could mitigate the joint negative effects of practical issues and yielded a tradeoff between secure performance and complexity/overhead outperforming non-robust benchmarks, which increases the robustness and flexibility of multiple RIS deployments in future wireless networks.

Cloud gaming systems allow users to play games that require high-performance computational capability on their mobile devices at any location. However, playing games through cloud gaming systems increases the Round-Trip Time (RTT) due to increased network delay. To simulate a local gaming experience for cloud users, we must minimize RTTs, which include network delays. The speculative video transmission pre-generates and encodes video frames corresponding to all possible user inputs and sends them to the user before the user’s input. The speculative video transmission mitigates the network, whereas a simple solution significantly increases the video traffic. This paper proposes tile-wise delta detection for traffic reduction of speculative video transmission. More specifically, the proposed method determines a reference video frame from the generated video frames and divides the reference video frame into multiple tiles. We calculate the similarity between each tile of the reference video frame and other video frames based on a hash function. Based on calculated similarity, we determine redundant tiles and do not transmit them to reduce traffic volume in minimal processing time without implementing a high compression ratio video compression technique. Evaluations using commercial games showed that the proposed method reduced 40-50% in traffic volume when the SSIM index was around 0.98 in certain genres, compared with the speculative video transmission method. Furthermore, to evaluate the feasibility of the proposed method, we investigated the effectiveness of network delay reduction with existing computational capability and the requirements in the future. As a result, we found that the proposed scheme may mitigate network delay by one to two frames, even with existing computational capability under limited conditions.

In interdependent systems, such as electric power systems, entities or components mutually depend on each other. Due to these interdependencies, a small number of initial failures can propagate throughout the system, resulting in catastrophic system failures. This paper addresses the problem of finding the set of entities whose failures will have the worst effects on the system. To this end, a two-phase algorithm is developed. In the first phase, the tight bound on failure propagation steps is computed using a Boolean Satisfiablility (SAT) solver. In the second phase, the problem is formulated as an Integer Linear Programming (ILP) problem using the obtained step bound and solved with an ILP solver. Experimental results show that the algorithm scales to large problem instances and outperforms a single-phase algorithm that uses a loose step bound.

We address a path planning problem for heterogeneous multi-robot systems under specifications consisting of temporal constraints and routing tasks such as package delivery services. The robots are partitioned into several groups based on their dynamics and specifications. We introduce a concise description of such tasks, called a work, and extend counting LTL to represent such specifications. We convert the problem into an ILP problem. We show that the number of variables in the ILP problem is fewer than that of the existing method using cLTL+. By simulation, we show that the computation time of the proposed method is faster than that of the existing method.

Compared to subword based Neural Machine Translation (NMT), character based NMT eschews linguistic-motivated segmentation which performs directly on the raw character sequence, following a more absolute end-to-end manner. This property is more fascinating for machine translation (MT) between Japanese and Chinese, both of which use consecutive logographic characters without explicit word boundaries. However, there is still one disadvantage which should be addressed, that is, character is a less meaning-bearing unit than the subword, which requires the character models to be capable of sense discrimination. Specifically, there are two types of sense ambiguities existing in the source and target language, separately. With the former, it has been partially solved by the deep encoder and several existing works. But with the later, interestingly, the ambiguity in the target side is rarely discussed. To address this problem, we propose two simple yet effective methods, including a non-parametric pre-clustering for sense induction and a joint model to perform sense discrimination and NMT training simultaneously. Extensive experiments on Japanese⟷Chinese MT show that our proposed methods consistently outperform the strong baselines, and verify the effectiveness of using sense-discriminated representation for character based NMT.

Providing students with useful feedback on faulty programs can effectively help students fix programs. Spectrum-Based Fault Location (SBFL), which is a widely studied and lightweight technique, can automatically generate a suspicious value of statement ranking to help users find potential faults in a program. However, the performance of SBFL on student programs is not satisfactory, to improve the accuracy of SBFL in student programs, we propose a novel Multi-Correct Programs based Fault Localization (MCPFL) approach. Specifically, We first collected the correct programs submitted by students on the OJ system according to the programming problem numbers and removed the highly similar correct programs based on code similarity, and then stored them together with the faulty program to be located to construct a set of programs. Afterward, we analyzed the suspiciousness of the term in the faulty program through the Term Frequency-Inverse Document Frequency (TF-IDF). Finally, we designed a formula to calculate the weight of suspiciousness for program statements based on the number of input variables in the statement and weighted it to the spectrum-based fault localization formula. To evaluate the effectiveness of MCPFL, we conducted empirical studies on six student program datasets collected in our OJ system, and the results showed that MCPFL can effectively improve the traditional SBFL methods. In particular, on the EXAM metric, our approach improves by an average of 27.51% on the Dstar formula.

Despite recent advancements in utilizing meta-learning for addressing the generalization challenges of graph neural networks (GNN), their performance in argumentation mining tasks, such as argument classifications, remains relatively limited. This is primarily due to the under-utilization of potential pattern knowledge intrinsic to argumentation structures. To address this issue, our study proposes a two-stage, pattern-based meta-GNN method in contrast to conventional pattern-free meta-GNN approaches. Initially, our method focuses on learning a high-level pattern representation to effectively capture the pattern knowledge within an argumentation structure and then predicts edge types. It then utilizes a meta-learning framework in the second stage, designed to train a meta-learner based on the predicted edge types. This feature allows for rapid generalization to novel argumentation graphs. Through experiments on real English discussion datasets spanning diverse topics, our results demonstrate that our proposed method substantially outperforms conventional pattern-free GNN approaches, signifying a significant stride forward in this domain.

In Variant 4 of the one-way trading game [El-Yaniv, Fiat, Karp, and Turpin, 2001], a player has one dollar at the beginning and wants to convert it to yen only by one-way conversion. The exchange rate is guaranteed to fluctuate between m and M, and only the maximum fluctuation ratio φ = M/m is informed to the player in advance. The performance of an algorithm for this game is measured by the competitive ratio. El-Yaniv et al. derived the best possible competitive ratio over all algorithms for this game. However, it seems that the behavior of the best possible algorithm itself has not been explicitly described. In this paper we reveal the behavior of the best possible algorithm by solving a linear optimization problem. The behavior turns out to be quite different from that of the best possible algorithm for Variant 2 in which the player knows m and M in advance.

A circular string formed by connecting the first and the last symbols of a string is one of the simplest sequence forms, and it has been used for many applications such as data compression and fragment assembly problem. A sufficient condition on the lengths of substrings with frequencies for reconstruction of an input circular binary string is shown. However, there are no detailed descriptions on the proof of the sufficient condition and reconstruction algorithm. In this paper, we prove a necessary and sufficient condition on the lengths of substrings with frequencies for reconstruction of the circular string. We show the length is shorter than that of previous study for some circular strings. For improving the length, we use minimal absent words (MAWs) for given substrings of length k, and we propose a new construction algorithm of MAWs of length h(>k) while a conventional construction algorithm of MAWs can construct MAWs of length l(≤k). Moreover, we propose reconstruction algorithm of an input circular string for given substrings satisfying the new condition.

In the field of micro-LED displays consisting of UV or Blue-LED arrays and phosphors, where the chips used are very small, particle size of phosphors must be small to suppress variation in hue for each pixel. Especially, there is a strong demand for a red phosphor with small particle sizes. However, quantum yields of inorganic phosphors decrease as particles size of phosphors get smaller. On the other hand, in the case of organic phosphors and complexes, quantum yields don't decrease when particle size gets smaller because each molecule has a function of absorbing and emitting light. We focus on Eu(III) complexes as candidates of red phosphors for micro-LED displays because their color purities of photoluminescence spectra are high, and have been tried to enhance photoluminescence intensity by coordinating non-ionic ligand, specifically, newly designed phosphine oxide ligands. Non-ionic ligands have generally less influential on properties of complexes compared with ionic ligands, but have a high degree of flexibility in molecular design. We found novel molecular design concept of phosphine oxide ligands to enhance photoluminescence properties of Eu(III) complexes. This time, novel dinuclear Eu(III)-β-diketonates with a branched tetraphosphine tetraoxide ligand, TDPBPO and TDPPPO, were developed. They are designed to have two different phosphine oxide portions; one has aromatic substituents and the other has no aromatic substituent. TDPBPO and TDPPPO ligands have functions of increasing absolute quantum yields of Eu(III)-β-diketonates. Eu(III)-β-diketonates with branched tetraphosphine tetraoxide ligands have sharp red emissions and excellent quantum yields, and are promising candidates for micro LED displays, security media, and sensing for their pure and strong photoluminescence intensity.

This paper proposes user equipment (UE) grouping schemes and evaluates the performance of a scheduling scheme for each formed group in collaborative multiple-input multiple-output (MIMO) reception. In previous research, the criterion for UE grouping and the effects of group scheduling has never been presented. In the UE grouping scheme, two criteria, the base station (BS)-oriented one and the UE-oriented one, are presented. The BS-oriented full search scheme achieves ideal performance though it requires knowledge of the relative positions of all UEs. Therefore, the UE-oriented local search scheme is also proposed. As the scheduling scheme, proportional fairness scheduling is used in resource allocation for each formed group. When the number of total UEs increases, the difference in the number of UEs among groups enlarges. Numerical results obtained through computer simulation show that the throughput per user increases and the fairness among users decreases when the number of UEs in a cell increases in the proposed schemes compared to those of the conventional scheme.

The multi-agent surveillance problem is to find optimal trajectories of multiple agents that patrol a given area as evenly as possible. In this paper, we consider the multi-agent surveillance problem based on travel cost minimization. The surveillance area is given by an undirected graph. The penalty for each agent is introduced to evaluate the surveillance performance. Through a mixed logical dynamical system model, the multi-agent surveillance problem is reduced to a mixed integer linear programming (MILP) problem. In model predictive control, trajectories of agents are generated by solving the MILP problem at each discrete time. Furthermore, a condition that the MILP problem is always feasible is derived based on the Chinese postman problem. Finally, the proposed method is demonstrated by a numerical example.

Ising machines can find optimum or quasi-optimum solutions of combinatorial optimization problems efficiently and effectively. The graph coloring problem, which is one of the difficult combinatorial optimization problems, is to assign a color to each vertex of a graph such that no two vertices connected by an edge have the same color. Although methods to map the graph coloring problem onto the Ising model or quadratic unconstrained binary optimization (QUBO) model are proposed, none of them considers minimizing the number of colors. In addition, there is no Ising-machine-based method considering additional constraints in order to apply to practical problems. In this paper, we propose a mapping method of the graph coloring problem including minimizing the number of colors and additional constraints to the QUBO model. As well as the constraint terms for the graph coloring problem, we firstly propose an objective function term that can minimize the number of colors so that the number of used spins cannot increase exponentially. Secondly, we propose two additional constraint terms: One is that specific vertices have to be colored with specified colors; The other is that specific colors cannot be used more than the number of times given in advance. We theoretically prove that, if the energy of the proposed QUBO mapping is minimized, all the constraints are satisfied and the objective function is minimized. The result of the experiment using an Ising machine showed that the proposed method reduces the number of used colors by up to 75.1% on average compared to the existing baseline method when additional constraints are not considered. Considering the additional constraints, the proposed method can effectively find feasible solutions satisfying all the constraints.

Linear codes have wide applications in many fields such as data storage, communication, cryptography, combinatorics. As a subclass of linear codes, minimal linear codes can be used to construct secret sharing schemes with good access structures. In this paper, we first construct some new classes of linear codes by selecting definition set properly. Then, the lengths, dimensions and the weight distribution of the codes are determined by investigating whether the intersections of the supports of vectors and the definition sets are empty. Results show that both wide and narrow minimal linear codes are contained in the new codes. Finally, we extend some existing results to general cases.

The frequency hopping sequence plays a crucial role in determining the system's anti-jamming performance, in frequency hopping communication systems. If the adjacent frequency points of FHS can ensure wide-gap, it will better improve the anti-interference capability of the FH communication system. Moreover, if the period of the sequence is expanded, and each frequency point does not repeat in the same sequence, the system's ability to resist electromagnetic interference will be enhanced. And a one-coincidence frequency-hopping sequence set consists of FHSs with maximum Hamming autocorrelation 0 and cross-correlation 1. In this paper, we present two constructions of wide-gap frequency-hopping sequence sets. One construction is a new class of wide-gap one-coincidence FHS set, and the other is a WGFHS set with long period. These two WGFHS sets are optimal with respect to WG-Peng-Fan bound. And each sequence of these WGFHS sets is optimal with respect to WG-Lempel-Greenberger bound.

Non-orthogonal multipe access based multiple-input multiple-output system (MIMO-NOMA) has been widely used in improving user's achievable rate of millimeter wave (mmWave) communication. To meet different requirements of each user in multi-user beams, this paper proposes a power allocation algorithm to satisfy the quality of service (QoS) of head user while maximizing the minimum rate of edge users from the perspective of max-min fairness. Suppose that the user who is closest to the base station (BS) is the head user and the other users are the edge users in each beam in this paper. Then, an optimization problem model of max-min fairness criterion is developed under the constraints of users' minimum rate requirements and the total transmitting power of the BS. The bisection method and Karush-Kuhn-Tucher (KKT) conditions are used to solve this complex non-convex problem, and simulation results show that both the minimum achievable rates of edge users and the average rate of all users are greatly improved significantly compared with the traditional MIMO-NOMA, which only consider max-min fairness of users.

In 5th generation (5G) and Beyond 5G mobile communication systems, it is expected that numerous antennas will be densely deployed to realize ultra-broadband communication and uniform coverage. However, as the number of antennas increases, total power consumption of all antennas will also increase, which leads to a negative impact on the environment and operating costs of telecommunication operators. Thus, it is necessary to simplify an antenna structure to suppress the power consumption of each antenna. On the other hand, as a way to realize ultra-broadband communication, millimeter waves will be utilized because they can transmit signals with a broader bandwidth than lower frequencies. However, since millimeter waves have a large propagation loss, a propagation distance is shorter than that of low frequencies. Therefore, in order to extend the propagation distance, it is necessary to increase an equivalent isotropic radiated power by beamforming with phased array antenna. In this paper, a phased antenna array module in combined with analog radio over fiber (A-RoF) technology for 40-GHz millimeter wave is developed and evaluated for the first time. An 8×8 phased array antenna for 40-GHz millimeter wave with integrated photodiodes and RF chains has been developed, and end-to-end transmission experiment including 20km A-RoF transmission and 3-m over-the-air transmission from the developed phased array antenna has been conducted. The results showed that the 40-GHz RF signal after the end-to-end transmission satisfied the criteria of 3GPP signal quality requirements within ±50 degrees of main beam direction.

The Common Media Application Format (CMAF) is a standard for adaptive bitrate live streaming. The CMAF adapts chunk encoding and enables low-latency live streaming. However, conventional bandwidth estimation for adaptive bitrate streaming underestimates bandwidth because download time is affected not only by network bandwidth but also by the idle times between chunks in the same segment. Inaccurate bandwidth estimation decreases the quality of experience of the streaming client. In this paper, we propose a chunk-grouping method to estimate the available bandwidth for adaptive bitrate live streaming. In the proposed method, by delaying HTTP request transmission and bandwidth estimation using grouped chunks, the client estimates the available bandwidth accurately due to there being no idle times in the grouped chunks. In addition, we extend the proposed method to dynamically change the number of grouping chunks according to buffer length during downloading of the previous segment. We evaluate the proposed methods under various network conditions in order to confirm the effectiveness of the proposed methods.
