  • Trust-Based Bargaining Game Model for Cognitive Radio Spectrum Sharing Scheme

    Recently, cooperative spectrum sensing is being studied to greatly improve the sensing performance of cognitive radio networks. To develop an adaptable cooperative sensing algorithm, an important issue is how to properly induce selfish users to participate in spectrum sensing work. In this paper, a new cognitive radio spectrum sharing scheme is developed by employing the trust-based bargaining model. The proposed scheme dynamically adjusts bargaining powers and adaptively shares the available spectrum in real-time online manner. Under widely different and diversified network situations, this approach is so dynamic and flexible that it can adaptively respond to current network conditions. Simulation results demonstrate that the proposed scheme can obtain better network performance and bandwidth efficiency than existing schemes.

    This study examines the robustness of image quality factors in various types of environment illumination using a parameter design in the field of quality engineering. Experimental results revealed that image quality factors are influenced by environment illuminations in the following order: minimum luminance, maximum luminance and gamma.

  • Parameterization of Perfect Sequences over a Composition Algebra

    A parameterization of perfect sequences over composition algebras over the real number field is presented. According to the proposed parameterization theorem, a perfect sequence can be represented as a sum of trigonometric functions and points on a unit sphere of the algebra. Because of the non-commutativity of the multiplication, there are two definitions of perfect sequences, but the equivalence of the definitions is easily shown using the theorem. A composition sequence of sequences is introduced. Despite the non-associativity, the proposed theorem reveals that the composition sequence from perfect sequences is perfect.

    This study presents an adaptive quantization index modulation scheme applicable on a small audio segment, which in turn allows the watermarking technique to withstand time-shifting and cropping attacks. The exploitation of auditory masking further ensures the robustness and imperceptibility of the embedded watermark. Experimental results confirmed the efficacy of this scheme against common signal processing attacks.

    In this paper, we propose a decentralized strategy to find out the linear precoding matrices for a two-hop multiuser relay communication system. From a game-theoretic perspective, we model the source allocation process as a strategic noncooperative game for fixing relay precoding matrix and the multiuser interference treating as additive colored noise. Alternately, from the global optimization perspective, we prove that the optimum relay precoding matrix follows the transceiver Winner filter structure for giving a set of source transmit matrices. Closed-form solutions are finally obtained by using our proposed joint iterative SMSE algorithm and numerical results are provided to give insights on the proposed algorithms.

    A numerical model of multi-layered organic light emitting diode (OLED) is presented in this paper. The current density-voltage (J-V) model for OLED was performed by using the injection-limited current and bulk-limited current. The mobility equation was based on the field dependent model, so called “Poole-Frenkel mobility model.” The accuracy of this simulation was represented by comparing to the experimental results with a variable of EML thickness of multi-layered OLED device. There are two hetero-junction models which should be dealt with in the simulation. The Langevin recombination rate of electron and hole is also calculated through the device simulation.

    Shisen-Sho is a tile-based one-player game. The instance is a set of 136 tiles embedded on 817 rectangular grids. Two tiles can be removed if they are labeled by the same number and if they are adjacent or can be connected with at most three orthogonal line segments. Here, line segments must not cross tiles. The aim of the game is to remove all of the 136 tiles. In this paper, we consider the generalized version of Shisen-Sho, which uses an arbitrary number of tiles embedded on rectangular grids. It is shown that deciding whether the player can remove all of the tiles is NP-complete.

    Blind source separation (BSS) techniques are required for various signal decomposing issues. Independent component analysis (ICA), assuming only a statistical independence among stochastic source signals, is one of the most useful BSS tools because it does not need a priori information on each source. However, there are many requirements for decomposing multiple deterministic signals such as complex sinusoidal signals with different frequencies. These requirements may include pulse compression or clutter rejection. It has been theoretically shown that an ICA algorithm based on maximizing non-Gaussianity successfully decomposes such deterministic signals. However, this ICA algorithm does not maintain a sufficient separation performance when the frequency difference of the sinusoidal waves becomes less than a nominal frequency resolution. To solve this problem, this paper proposes a super-resolution algorithm for complex sinusoidal signals by extending the maximum likelihood ICA, where the probability density function (PDF) of a complex sinusoidal signal is exploited as a priori knowledge, in which the PDF of the signal amplitude is approximated as a Gaussian distribution with an extremely small standard deviation. Furthermore, we introduce an optimization process for this standard deviation to avoid divergence in updating the reconstruction matrix. Numerical simulations verify that our proposed algorithm remarkably enhances the separation performance compared to the conventional one, and accomplishes a super-resolution separation even in noisy situations.

    Vision based human action recognition has been an active research field in recent years. Exemplar matching is an important and popular methodology in this field, however, most previous works perform exemplar matching on the whole input video clip for recognition. Such a strategy is computationally expensive and limits its practical usage. In this paper, we present a martingale framework for selection of characteristic frames from an input video clip without requiring any prior knowledge. Action recognition is operated on these selected characteristic frames. Experiments on 10 studied actions from WEIZMANN dataset demonstrate a significant improvement in computational efficiency (54% reduction) while achieving the same recognition precision.

    All points on the Pareto boundary can be obtained by solving the weighted sum rate maximization problem for some weighted coefficients. Unfortunately, the problem is non-convex and difficult to solve without performing an exhaustive search. In this paper, we propose an optimal distributed beamforming strategy for the two-user multiple-input single-output (MISO) interference channel (IC). Through minimizing the interference signal power leaked to the other receiver for fixed useful signal power received at the intended receiver, the original non-convex optimization problem can be converted into a family of convex optimization problems, each which can be solved in distributed manner with only local channel state information at each transmitter. After some conversion, we derive the closed-form solutions to all Pareto optimal points based on a game-theoretic viewpoint which indicates that linear combinations of the maximum-ratio transmit (MRT) and zero-forcing (ZF) beamforming strategies can achieve any point on the Pareto boundary of the rate region for the two-user MISO interference channel, and the only computation involved is to solve a basic quadratic equation. Finally, the result is validated via numerical simulations.

    A method for spatio-temporal resolution enhancement of video sequences based on super-resolution reconstruction is proposed. A new observation model is defined for accurate resolution enhancement, which enables subpixel motion in intermediate frames to be obtained. A modified optimization formula for obtaining a high-resolution sequence is also adopted.

    Silver electrical contacts are separated at constant speed and break arcs are generated in a DC100 V–450 V/10 A resistive circuit. The transverse magnetic field of a permanent magnet is applied to the break arcs. Dependences of the arc duration, arc dwell time and arc lengthening time on the strength of the magnetic field and supply voltage are investigated. The characteristics of the re-ignition of the break arc are also discussed. Following results are shown. The arc duration D is increased due to the increase of the arc lengthening time tm when the supply voltage E is increased for each magnetic flux density Bx, because the arc dwell time ts is almost constant. The arc duration D is increased due to the increase of both of the arc lengthening time tm and the arc dwell time ts when the magnetic flux density Bx is decreased. The arc lengthening time tended to become long when the re-ignition of the break arc is occurred. The lengthening time tends to become longer when the duration tm1 from the start of the arc lengthening to the start of the re-ignition is increased. Re-ignitions occurred frequently when the magnetic flux density of the transverse magnetic field is increased and the supply voltage is increased.

    This paper develops a methodology of crosstalk analysis/measurement techniques for the design and fabrication of the MEMs (Micro-ElectroMichanical system) probe card. By introducing more ground pins into the connector pins, the crosstalk characteristics can be enhanced and a design guide for the parameters, such as pin's size and pitch is proposed to satisfy the given crosstalk limitation of -30 dB for reliable high speed signal transfer. The paper also presents a novel method to characterize scattering parameters of multiport interconnect circuits with a 4-port VNA (Vector Network Analyzer). By employing the re-normalization of scattering matrices with different reference impedances at other ports, data obtained from 4-port configuration measurements can be synthesized to build a full scattering matrix of the DUT (Device-Under-Test, MEMs probe connector pins). In comparison to the conventional 2-port VNA re-normalization method, proposed technique has two advantages: saving of measuring time, and enhanced accuracy even with open-ended unmeasured ports. A good agreement of the estimated and correct S parameters verifies the validness of the proposed algorithm.

  • Effects of Shapes of Contact Surfaces on Break Arcs Occurring between Electrical Contacts in Which a Magnet is Embedded

    Break arcs are rotated by the radial magnetic field formed by a magnet embedded in the pipe-shaped cathode. The arcs are generated in switching a DC42 V resistive circuit. The closed contact current varies from 5 A to 21 A. The curvature of the anode surface is varied to study the dependence of the arc length and the positions of the break arcs in the contact gap. The following results are obtained: (i) as current decreases, there is more difference in arc duration among different curvatures; (ii) as current decreases, the arc duration decreases with decrease of the radius of curvature; (iii) in each contact curvature, the anode spots region is located nearer to the center axis than the cathode spots region; (iv) the arc length just before arc extinction is independent of the curvature of the contacts.

    The non-homogeneous Poisson process (NHPP) has been applied successfully to model nonstationary counting phenomena for a large class of problems. In software reliability engineering, the NHPP-based software reliability models (SRMs) are of a very important class. Since NHPP is characterized by its rate (intensity) function, which is known as the software failure rate of NHPP-based SRM, it is of great interest to estimate accurately the rate function from observed software failure data. In the existing work the same authors introduced a Haar-wavelet-based technique for this problem and found that the Haar wavelet transform provided a very powerful performance in estimating software failure rate. In this paper, we consider the application potentiality of a Daubechies wavelet estimator in the estimation of software failure rate, given the software failure time data. We give practical solutions by overcoming technical difficulties in applying the Daubechies wavelet estimator to the real software failure time data.

  • Opportunistic Cooperative Positioning in OFDMA Systems

    This letter presents a novel opportunistic cooperative positioning approach for orthogonal frequency-division multiple access (OFDMA) systems. The basic idea is to allow idle mobile terminals (MTs) opportunistically estimating the arrival timing of the training sequences for uplink synchronization from active MTs. The major advantage of the proposed approach over state-of-the-arts is that the positioning-related measurements among MTs are performed without the paid of training overhead. Moreover, Cramer-Rao lower bound (CRLB) is utilized to derive the positioning accuracy limit of the proposed approach, and the numerical results show that the proposed approach can improve the accuracy of non-cooperative approaches with the a-priori stochastic knowledge of clock bias among idle MTs.

    Our research is focused on examining the video quality assessment model based on the MPEG-7 descriptor. Video quality is estimated by using several features based on the predicted frame quality such as average value, worst value, best value, standard deviation, and the predicted frame rate obtained from descriptor information. As a result, assessment of video quality can be conducted with a high prediction accuracy with correlation coefficient=0.94, standard deviation of error=0.24, maximum error=0.68 and outlier ratio=0.23.

    Digital still cameras emerged following the introduction of the Sony Mavica analog prototype camera in 1981. These early cameras produced poor image quality and did not challenge film cameras for overall quality. By 1995 digital still cameras in expensive SLR formats had 6 mega-pixels and produced high quality images (with significant image processing). In 2005 significant improvement in image quality was apparent and lower prices for digital still cameras (DSCs) started a rapid decline in film usage and film camera sells. By 2010 film usage was mostly limited to professionals and the motion picture industry. The rise of DSCs was marked by a “pixel war” where the driving feature of the cameras was the pixel count where even moderate cost, ∼ $120, DSCs would have 14 mega-pixels. The improvement of CMOS technology pushed this trend of lower prices and higher pixel counts. Only the single lens reflex cameras had large sensors and large pixels. The drive for smaller pixels hurt the quality aspects of the final image (sharpness, noise, speed, and exposure latitude). Only today are camera manufactures starting to reverse their course and producing DSCs with larger sensors and pixels. This paper will explore why larger pixels and sensors are key to the future of DSCs.

  • A No Reference Metric of Video Coding Quality Based on Parametric Analysis of Video Bitstream

    In this paper, we propose a novel method of measuring the perceived picture quality of H.264 coded video based on parametric analysis of the coded bitstream. The parametric analysis means that the proposed method utilizes only bitstream parameters to evaluate video quality, while it does not have any access to the baseband signal (pixel level information) of the decoded video. The proposed method extracts quantiser-scale, macro block type and transform coefficients from each macroblock. These parameters are used to calculate spatiotemporal image features to reflect the perception of coding artifacts which have a strong relation to the subjective quality. A computer simulation shows that the proposed method can estimate the subjective quality at a correlation coefficient of 0.923 whereas the PSNR metric, which is referred to as a benchmark, correlates the subjective quality at a correlation coefficient of 0.793.
