    In this paper, we propose a new method for non-dominant limb training. The method is that a learner aims at a motion which is generated by reversing his/her own motion of dominant limb, when he/she tries to train himself/herself for non-dominant limb training. In addition, we designed and developed interface for the new method which can select feedback types. One is an interface using AR and sound, and the other is an interface using AR and vibration. We found that vibration feedback was effective for non-dominant hand training of pitching motion, while sound feedback was not so effective as vibration.

    In recent years, agreement technologies have garnered interest among agents in the field of multi-agent systems. Automated negotiation is one of the agreement technologies, in which agents negotiate with each other to make an agreement so that they can solve conflicts between their preferences. Although most agents keep their own preferences private, it is necessary to estimate the opponent's preferences to obtain a better agreement. Therefore, opponent modeling is one of the most important elements in automated negotiating strategy. A frequency model is widely used for opponent modeling because of its robustness against various types of strategy while being easy to implement. However, existing frequency models do not consider the opponent's proposal speed and the transition of offers. This study proposes a novel frequency model that considers the opponent's behavior using two main elements: the offer ratio and the weighting function. The offer ratio stabilizes the model against changes in the opponent's offering speed, whereas the weighting function takes the opponent's concession into account. The two experiments conducted herein show that our proposed model is more accurate than other frequency models. Additionally, we find that the agent with the proposed model performs with a significantly higher utility value in negotiations.

  • Weighting Estimation Methods for Opponents' Utility Functions Using Boosting in Multi-Time Negotiations

    Recently, multi-issue closed negotiations have attracted attention in multi-agent systems. In particular, multi-time and multilateral negotiation strategies are important topics in multi-issue closed negotiations. In multi-issue closed negotiations, an automated negotiating agent needs to have strategies for estimating an opponent's utility function by learning the opponent's behaviors since the opponent's utility information is not open to others. However, it is difficult to estimate an opponent's utility function for the following reasons: (1) Training datasets for estimating opponents' utility functions cannot be obtained. (2) It is difficult to apply the learned model to different negotiation domains and opponents. In this paper, we propose a novel method of estimating the opponents' utility functions using boosting based on the least-squares method and nonlinear programming. Our proposed method weights each utility function estimated by several existing utility function estimation methods and outputs improved utility function by summing each weighted function. The existing methods using boosting are based on the frequency-based method, which counts the number of values offered, considering the time elapsed when they offered. Our experimental results demonstrate that the accuracy of estimating opponents' utility functions is significantly improved under various conditions compared with the existing utility function estimation methods without boosting.

    We report good responsivity at the wavelength of 1600nm in a Ge photodetector which had lateral p-i-n structure and butt-joint coupling structure based on conventional normal complementary metal oxide semiconductor processes. We experimentally verified the responsivity of 0.82A/W and 0.71A/W on the best and the worst polarizations, respectively. The butt joint lateral p-i-n structure is found to be polarization independent as compared with vertical ones. Although cut-off frequency was 2.3-2.4GHz at reverse bias 3V, clearly open eye diagram at 10Gbps was obtained with reverse bias over 12V. These results are promising as optical photodetectors to receive long wavelengths downstream signal wavelengths required for next-generation optical access network systems.

    A rich and robust representation for scene characters plays a significant role in automatically understanding the text in images. In this letter, we focus on the issue of feature representation, and propose a novel encoding method named bilateral convolutional activations encoded with Fisher vectors (BCA-FV) for scene character recognition. Concretely, we first extract convolutional activation descriptors from convolutional maps and then build a bilateral convolutional activation map (BCAM) to capture the relationship between the convolutional activation response and the spatial structure information. Finally, in order to obtain the global feature representation, the BCAM is injected into FV to encode convolutional activation descriptors. Hence, the BCA-FV can effectively integrate the prominent features and spatial structure information for character representation. We verify our method on two widely used databases (ICDAR2003 and Chars74K), and the experimental results demonstrate that our method achieves better results than the state-of-the-art methods. In addition, we further validate the proposed BCA-FV on the “Pan+ChiPhoto” database for Chinese scene character recognition, and the experimental results show the good generalization ability of the proposed BCA-FV.

    In this study, the reference pure metal-oxide semiconductor field-effect transistors (MOSFETs) and low-voltage (LV) and high-voltage (HV) MOSFETs with a super-junction (SJ) structure in the drain side were experimentally compared. The results show that the drain-side engineering of SJs exerts negative effects on the electrostatic discharge (ESD) and latch-up (LU) immunities of LV n-channel MOSFETs, whereas for LV p-channel MOSFETs and HV n-channel laterally diffused MOSFETs (nLDMOSs), the effects are positive. Compared with the pure MOSFET, electrostatic discharge (ESD) robustness (It2) decreased by approximately 30.25% for the LV nMOS-SJ, whereas It2 increased by approximately 2.42% and 46.63% for the LV pMOS-SJ and HV nLDMOS-SJ, respectively; furthermore, LU immunity (Vh) decreased by approximately 5.45% for the LV nMOS-SJ, whereas Vh increased by approximately 0.44% and 35.5% for the LV pMOS-SJ and HV nLDMOS-SJ, respectively. Thus, nMOS-SJ (pMOS-SJ and nLDMOS-SJ) has lower (higher) It2 and Vh, and this drain-side SJ structure of MOSFETs is an inferior (superior) choice for improving the ESD/LU reliability of LV nMOSs (LV pMOS and HV nLDMOS).

  • Design of High-ESD Reliability in HV Power pLDMOS Transistors by the Drain-Side Isolated SCRs

    Improving robustness in electrostatic discharge (ESD) protection by inserting drain-side isolated silicon-controlled rectifiers (SCRs) in a high-voltage (HV) p-channel lateral-diffused MOSFET (pLDMOS) device was investigated in this paper. Additionally, the effects of anti-ESD reliability in the HV pLDMOS transistors provided by this technique were evaluated. From the experimental data, it was determined that the holding voltage (Vh) values of the pLDMOS with an embedded npn-arranged SCR and discrete thin-oxide (OD) layout on the cathode side increased as the parasitic SCR OD row number decreased. Moreover, the trigger voltage (Vt1) and the Vh values of the pLDMOS with a parasitic pnp-arranged SCR and discrete OD layout on the drain side fluctuated slightly as the SCR OD-row number decreased. Furthermore, the secondary breakdown current (It2) values (i.e., the equivalent ESD-reliability robustness) of all pLDMOS-SCR npn-arranged types increased (>408.4%) to a higher degree than those of the pure pLDMOS, except for npn-DIS_3 and npn-DIS_2, which had low areas of SCRs. All pLDMOS-SCR pnp-arranged types exhibited an increase of up to 2.2A-2.4A, except for the pnp_DIS_3 and pnp_DIS_2 samples; the pnp_DIS_91 increased by approximately 2000.9% (249.1%), exhibiting a higher increase than that of the reference pLDMOS (i.e., the corresponding pnp-stripe type). The ESD robustness of the pLDMOS-SCR pnp-arranged type and npn-arranged type with a discrete OD layout on the SCR cathode side was greater than that of the corresponding pLDMOS-SCR stripe type and a pure pLDMOS, particularly in the pLDMOS-SCR pnp-arranged type.

  • Adaptive Rendering Using a Best Matching Patch

    A novel rendering algorithm with a best-matching patch is proposed to address the noise artifacts associated with Monte Carlo renderings. First, in the sampling stage, the representative patch is selected through a modified patch shift procedure, which gathers homogeneous pixels together to stay clear of the edges. Second, each pixel is filtered over a discrete set of filters, where the range kernel is computed using the selected patches. The difference between the selected patch and the filtered value is used as the pixel error, and the single filter that returns the smallest estimated error is chosen. In the reconstruction stage, pixel colors are combined with features of depth, normal and texture to form a cross bilateral filter, which highly preserves scene details while effectively removing noise. Finally, a heuristic metric is calculated to allocate additional samples in difficult regions. Compared with state-of-the art methods, the proposed algorithm performs better both in visual image quality and numerical error.

  • Generation of Oil-Film-Like Images by Bilateral Infra-Envelope Filter

    A non-photorealistic rendering method creates oil-film-like images, expressed with colorful, smooth curves similar to the oil films generated on the surface of glass or water, from color photo images. The proposed method generates oil-film-like images through iterative processing between a bilateral infra-envelope filter and an unsharp mask. In order to verify the effectiveness of the proposed method, tests using a Lena image were performed, and visual assessment of oil-film-like images was conducted for changes in appearance as the parameter values of the proposed method were varied. As a result of tests, the optimal value of parameters was found for generating oil-film patterns.

    Cost aggregation is one of the most important steps in local stereo matching, while it is difficult to fulfill both accuracy and speed. In this letter, a novel cost aggregation, consisting of guidance image, fast aggregation function and simplified scan-line optimization, is developed. Experiments demonstrate that the proposed algorithm has competitive performance compared with the state-of-art aggregation methods on 32 Middlebury stereo datasets in both accuracy and speed.

    The conventional bilateral motion estimation (BME) for motion-compensated frame rate up-conversion (MC-FRUC) can avoid the problem of overlapped areas and holes but usually results in lots of inaccurate motion vectors (MVs) since 1) the MV of an object between the previous and following frames is more likely to have no temporal symmetry with respect to the target block of the interpolated frame and 2) the repetitive patterns existing in video frame lead to the problem of mismatch due to the lack of the interpolated block. In this paper, a new BME algorithm with a low computational complexity is proposed to resolve the above problems. The proposed algorithm incorporates multi-resolution search into BME, since it can easily utilize the MV consistency between two adjacent pyramid levels and spatial neighboring MVs to correct the inaccurate MVs resulting from no temporal symmetry while guaranteeing low computational cost. Besides, the multi-resolution search uses the fast wavelet transform to construct the wavelet pyramid, which not only can guarantee low computational complexity but also can reserve the high-frequency components of image at each level while sub-sampling. The high-frequency components are used to regularize the traditional block matching criterion for reducing the probability of mismatch in BME. Experiments show that the proposed algorithm can significantly improve both the objective and subjective quality of the interpolated frame with low computational complexity, and provide the better performance than the existing BME algorithms.

  • Availability Analysis of a Multibase System with Lateral Resupply between Bases

    In this paper, we study on an availability analysis for a multibase system with lateral resupply of spare items between bases. We construct a basic model that a spare item of a base is transported for operation to another base without spare upon occurrence of failure, and simultaneously, the base that supplies the spare item receives the failed item of the other base for repair. We propose an approximation method to obtain the availability of the system and show the accuracy of the solution through numerical experiments. Also, two modified models are constructed to show the efficiency of the basic model. The two models modify the assumption on the lateral resupply of spare items between bases in the basic model. We numerically illustrate that the basic model can increase the availability of the system compared with the two modified models through Monte Carlo simulation.

    The bilateral filter (BF) is a nonlinear and low-pass filter which can smooth an image while preserving detail structures. However, the filer is time consuming for real-time processing. In this paper, we bring forward a fresh idea that bilateral filtering can be accelerated by a multigrid (MG) scheme. Our method is based on the following two facts. a) The filtering result by a BF with a large kernel size on the original resolution can be approximated by applying a small kernel sized (3×3) version on the lower resolution many times on the premise of visual acceptance. Early work has shown that a BF can be viewed as nonlinear diffusion. The desired filtering result is actually an intermediate status of the diffusion process. b) Iterative linear equation techniques are sufficiently mature to cope with the nonlinear diffusion equation, which can be accelerated by the MG scheme. Experimental results with both simulated data sets and real sets are provided, and the new method is demonstrated to achieve almost twice the speed of the state-of-the-art. Compared with previous efforts for finding a generalized representation to link bilateral filtering and nonlinear diffusion by adaptive filtering, a novel relationship between nonlinear diffusion and bilateral filtering is explored in this study by focusing attention on numerical calculus.

    In this letter, we present an efficient video matching-based denoising method. Two main issues are addressed in this paper: the matched points and the denoising algorithm based on an adaptive spatial temporal filter. Unlike previous algorithms, our method adaptively selects reference pixels within spatially and temporally neighboring frames. Our method uses more information about matched pixels on neighboring frames than other methods. Therefore, the proposal enhanced the accuracy of video denoising. Simulation results show that the proposed method produces cleaner and sharper images.

    This paper proposes a robust bilateral filter which can handle mixed Gaussian and impulsive noise by hybridizing the conventional bilateral filter and the switching median filter. The effectiveness of the proposed method is verified in comparison with other conventional methods by some experiments using the natural digital images.

    We propose a non-photorealistic rendering method for generating moire-picture-like color images from color photographs. The proposed method is performed in two steps. First, images with a staircasing effect are generated by a bilateral filter. Second, moire patterns are generated with an improved bilateral filter called an anti-bilateral filter. The characteristic of the anti-bilateral filter is to emphasize gradual boundaries.

  • Low Complexity Image/Video Super Resolution Using Edge and Nonlocal Self-Similarity Constraint

    In this letter, we present a fast image/video super resolution framework using edge and nonlocal constraint. The proposed method has three steps. First, we improve the initial estimation using content-adaptive bilateral filtering to strengthen edge. Second, the high resolution image is estimated by using classical back projection method. Third, we use joint content-adaptive nonlocal means filtering to get the final result, and self-similarity structures are obtained by the low resolution image. Furthermore, content-adaptive filtering and fast self-similarity search strategy can effectively reduce computation complexity. The experimental results show the proposed method has good performance with low complexity and can be used for real-time environment.

    Super resolution (SR) reconstruction is the process of fusing a sequence of low-resolution images into one high-resolution image. Many researchers have introduced various SR reconstruction methods. However, these traditional methods are limited in the extent to which they allow recovery of high-frequency information. Moreover, due to the self-similarity of face images, most of the facial SR algorithms are machine learning based. In this paper, we introduce a facial SR algorithm that combines learning-based and regularized SR image reconstruction algorithms. Our conception involves two main ideas. First, we employ separated frequency components to reconstruct high-resolution images. In addition, we separate the region of the training face image. These approaches can help to recover high-frequency information. In our experiments, we demonstrate the effectiveness of these ideas.

  • Joint Feature Based Rain Detection and Removal from Videos

    Adverse weather, such as rain or snow, can cause difficulties in the processing of video streams. Because the appearance of raindrops can affect the performance of human tracking and reduce the efficiency of video compression, the detection and removal of rain is a challenging problem in outdoor surveillance systems. In this paper, we propose a new algorithm for rain detection and removal based on both spatial and wavelet domain features. Our system involves fewer frames during detection and removal, and is robust to moving objects in the rain. Experimental results demonstrate that the proposed algorithm outperforms existing approaches in terms of subjective and objective quality.
