This study investigates a two/three-dimensional (2D/3D) symbol-mapping technique that evaluates data transmission quality based on a four-level pulse-amplitude modulation (PAM-4) symbol transition. Multi-dimensional symbol transition mapping facilitates the visualization of the degree of interference (ISI). The simulation and experimental results demonstrated that the 2D symbol mapping can evaluate the PAM-4 data transmission quality degraded by ISI and visualize the equalization effect. Furthermore, potential applications of 2D mapping and its extension to 3D mapping were explored.

In high-speed data communication systems, it is important to evaluate the quality of the transmitted signal at the receiver. At a high-speed data rate, the transmission line characteristics act as a high-frequency attenuator and contribute to the intersymbol interference (ISI) at the receiver. To evaluate ISI conditions, eye diagrams are widely used to analyze signal quality and visualize the ISI effect as an eye-opening rate. Various types of on-chip eye-opening monitors (EOM) have been proposed to adjust waveform-shaping circuits. However, the eye diagram evaluation of multi-valued signaling becomes more difficult than that of binary transmission because of the complicated signal transition patterns. Moreover, in severe ISI situations where the eye is completely closed, eye diagram evaluation does not work well. This paper presents a novel evaluation method using Two-dimensional(2D) symbol mapping and a linear mixture model (LMM) for multi-valued data transmission. In our proposed method, ISI evaluation can be realized by 2D symbol mapping, and an efficient quantitative analysis can be realized using the LMM. An experimental demonstration of four leveled pulse amplitude modulation(PAM-4) data transmission using a Cat5e cable 100 m is presented. The experimental results show that the proposed method can extract features of the ISI effect even though the eye is completely closed in the server condition.

Diagnosis at an early stage is clinically important for the cure of skin cancer. However, since some skin cancers have similar intuitive characteristics, and dermatologists rely on subjective experience to distinguish skin cancer types, the accuracy is often suboptimal. Recently, the introduction of computer methods in the medical field has better assisted physicians to improve the recognition rate but some challenges still exist. In the face of massive dermoscopic image data, residual network (ResNet) is more suitable for learning feature relationships inside big data because of its deeper network depth. Aiming at the deficiency of ResNet, this paper proposes a multi-region feature extraction and raising dimension matching method, which further improves the utilization rate of medical image features. This method firstly extracted rich and diverse features from multiple regions of the feature map, avoiding the deficiency of traditional residual modules repeatedly extracting features in a few fixed regions. Then, the fused features are strengthened by up-dimensioning the branch path information and stacking it with the main path, which solves the problem that the information of two paths is not ideal after fusion due to different dimensionality. The proposed method is experimented on the International Skin Imaging Collaboration (ISIC) Archive dataset, which contains more than 40,000 images. The results of this work on this dataset and other datasets are evaluated to be improved over networks containing traditional residual modules and some popular networks.

The influence of the gate voltage or base pair ratio modulation on the λ-DNA FET performance was examined. The result of the gate voltage modulation indicated that the captured electrons in the guanine base of the λ-DNA molecules greatly influenced the Id-Vd characteristics, and that of the base pair ratio modulation indicated that the tendency of the conductivity was partly clarified by considering the activation energy of holes and electrons and the length and numbers of the serial AT or GC sequences over which the holes or electrons jumped. In addition, the influence of the dimensionality of the DNA molecule on the conductivity was discussed theoretically.

The ideal point scattering model requires that each scattering center is isotropic, the position of the scattering center corresponding to the target remains unchanged, and the backscattering amplitude and phase of the target do not change with the incident frequency and incident azimuth. In fact, these conditions of the ideal point scattering model are difficult to meet, and the scattering models are not ideal in most cases. In order to understand the difference between non-ideal scattering center and ideal scattering center, this paper takes a metal plate as the research object, carries out two-dimensional imaging of the metal plate, compares the difference between the imaging position and the theoretical target position, and compares the shape of the scattering center obtained from two-dimensional imaging of the plate from different angles. From the experimental results, the offset between the scattering center position and the theoretical target position corresponding to the two-dimensional imaging of the plate under the non-ideal point scattering model is less than the range resolution and azimuth resolution. The deviation between the small angle two-dimensional imaging position and the theoretical target position using the ideal point scattering model is small, and the ideal point scattering model is still suitable for the two-dimensional imaging of the plate. In the imaging process, the ratio of range resolution and azimuth resolution affects the shape of the scattering center. The range resolution is equal to the azimuth resolution, the shape of the scattering center is circular; the range resolution is not equal to the azimuth resolution, and the shape of the scattering center is elliptic. In order to obtain more accurate two-dimensional image, the appropriate range resolution and azimuth resolution can be considered when using the ideal point scattering model for two-dimensional imaging. The two-dimensional imaging results of the plate at different azimuth and angle can be used as a reference for the study of non-ideal point scattering model.

Recently, “Both-Side Retrodirective System” was proposed, as a beam convergence technique, for microwave high power transmission. To demonstrate the effectiveness of the both-side retrodirective system by experiment, the authors propose a 2-dimensional measurement equipment. Propagation in the parallel plate waveguide was analogized based on free-space propagation, and the theory and characteristics were clarified by simulation. The electric field distribution in the waveguide was measured by electric probe with the proposed equipment. Two types of measurement equipment were developed. One is a 4-element experiment system, which is a small-scale device for principle verification. The other is a 16-element measurement equipment, which is intended to evaluate beam convergence of a both-side retrodirective system in the next step. The measured results were compared with simulation results. As a result, it was confirmed that the beam formed in the waveguide was successfully measured. Thus, the effectiveness of 2-dimensional measurement equipment for evaluation of beam convergence was shown.

In frequency hopping communication, time delay and Doppler shift incur interference. With the escalating upgrading of complicated interference, in this paper, the time-frequency two-dimensional (TFTD) partial Hamming correlation (PHC) properties of wide-gap frequency-hopping sequences (WGFHSs) with frequency shift are discussed. A bound on the maximum TFTD partial Hamming auto-correlation (PHAC) and two bounds on the maximum TFTD PHC of WGFHSs are got. Li-Fan-Yang bounds are the particular cases of new bounds for frequency shift is zero.

In quasi-synchronous FH multiple-access (QS-FHMA) systems, no-hit-zone frequency-hopping sequences (NHZ-FHSs) can offer interference-free FHMA performance. But, outside the no-hit-zone (NHZ), the Hamming correlation of traditional NHZ-FHZs maybe so large that the performance becomes not good. And in high-speed mobile environment, Doppler shift phenomenon will appear. In order to ensure the performance of FHMA, it is necessary to study the NHZ-FHSs in the presence of transmission delay and frequency offset. In this paper, We derive a lower bound on the maximum time-frequency two-dimensional Hamming correlation outside of the NHZ of NHZ-FHSs. The Zeng-Zhou-Liu-Liu bound is a particular situation of the new bound for frequency shift is zero.
To achieve object recognition, it is necessary to find the unique features of the objects to be recognized. Results in prior research suggest that methods that use multiple modalities information are effective to find the unique features. In this paper, the overview of the system that can extract the features of the objects to be recognized by integrating visual, tactile, and auditory information as multimodal sensor information with VRAE is shown. Furthermore, a discussion about changing the combination of modalities information is also shown.

Graph layouts reveal global or local structures of graph data. However, there are few studies on assisting readers in better reconstructing a graph from a layout. This paper attempts to generate a layout whose edges can be reestablished. We reformulate the graph layout problem as an edge classification problem. The inputs are the vertex pairs, and the outputs are the edge existences. The trainable parameters are the laid-out coordinates of the vertices. We propose a binary classification-based graph layout (BCGL) framework in this paper. This layout aims to preserve the local structure of the graph and does not require the total similarity relationships of the vertices. We implement two concrete algorithms under the BCGL framework, evaluate our approach on a wide variety of datasets, and draw comparisons with several other methods. The evaluations verify the ability of the BCGL in local neighborhood preservation and its visual quality with some classic metrics.

Sparse code division multiple access (SCMA) is a non-orthogonal multiple access (NOMA) technology that can improve frequency band utilization and allow many users to share quite a few resource elements (REs). This paper uses the modulation of lattice theory to develop a systematic construction procedure for the design of SCMA codebooks under Gaussian channel environments that can achieve near-optimal designs, especially for cases that consider large-scale SCMA parameters. However, under the condition of large-scale SCMA parameters, the mother constellation (MC) points will overlap, which can be solved by the method of the partial dimensions transformation (PDT). More importantly, we consider the upper bounded error probability of the signal transmission in the AWGN channels, and design a codeword allocation method to reduce the inter symbol interference (ISI) on the same RE. Simulation results show that under different codebook sizes and different overload rates, using two different message passing algorithms (MPA) to verify, the codebook proposed in this paper has a bit error rate (BER) significantly better than the reference codebooks, moreover the convergence time does not exceed that of the reference codebooks.

Machine reading comprehension with multi-hop reasoning always suffers from reasoning path breaking due to the lack of world knowledge, which always results in wrong answer detection. In this paper, we analyze what knowledge the previous work lacks, e.g., dependency relations and commonsense. Based on our analysis, we propose a Multi-dimensional Knowledge enhanced Graph Network, named MKGN, which exploits specific knowledge to repair the knowledge gap in reasoning process. Specifically, our approach incorporates not only entities and dependency relations through various graph neural networks, but also commonsense knowledge by a bidirectional attention mechanism, which aims to enhance representations of both question and contexts. Besides, to make the most of multi-dimensional knowledge, we investigate two kinds of fusion architectures, i.e., in the sequential and parallel manner. Experimental results on HotpotQA dataset demonstrate the effectiveness of our approach and verify that using multi-dimensional knowledge, especially dependency relations and commonsense, can indeed improve the reasoning process and contribute to correct answer detection.

Global software engineering education faces unique challenges to reflect as close as possible real-world distributed team development in various forms. The complex nature of planning, collaborating, and upholding partnerships present administrative difficulties on top of budgetary constrains. These lead to limited opportunities for students to gain international experiences and for researchers to propagate educational and practical insights. This paper presents an empirical view on three different course structures conducted by the same research and educational team over a four-year time span. The courses were managed in Japan and Germany, facing cultural challenges, time-zone differences, language barriers, heterogeneous and homogeneous team structures, amongst others. Three semesters were carried out before and one during the Covid-19 pandemic. Implications for a recent focus on online education for software engineering education and future directions are discussed. As administrational and institutional differences typically do not guarantee the same number of students on all sides, distributed teams can be 1. balanced, where the number of students on one side is less than double the other, 2. unbalanced, where the number of students on one side is significantly larger than double the other, or 3. one-sided, where one side lacks students altogether. An approach for each of these three course structures is presented and discussed. Empirical analyses and reoccurring patterns in global software engineering education are reported. In the most recent three global software engineering classes, students were surveyed at the beginning and the end of the semester. The questionnaires ask students to rank how impactful they perceive factors related to global software development such as cultural aspects, team structure, language, and interaction. Results of the shift in mean perception are compared and discussed for each of the three team structures.

DoS (Denial of Service) attacks are becoming one of the most serious security threats to global networks. We analyze the existing DoS detection methods and defense mechanisms in depth. In recent years, K-Means and improved variants have been widely examined for security intrusion detection, but the detection accuracy to data is not satisfactory. In this paper we propose a multi-dimensional space feature vector expansion K-Means model to detect threats in the network environment. The model uses a genetic algorithm to optimize the weight of K-Means multi-dimensional space feature vector, which greatly improves the detection rate against 6 typical Dos attacks. Furthermore, in order to verify the correctness of the model, this paper conducts a simulation on the NSL-KDD data set. The results show that the algorithm of multi-dimensional space feature vectors expansion K-Means improves the recognition accuracy to 96.88%. Furthermore, 41 kinds of feature vectors in NSL-KDD are analyzed in detail according to a large number of experimental training. The feature vector of the probability positive return of security attack detection is accurately extracted, and a comparison chart is formed to support subsequent research. A theoretical analysis and experimental results show that the multi-dimensional space feature vector expansion K-Means algorithm has a good application in the detection of DDos attacks.

In this letter, a method for the construction of polar codes based on the mutual information approximation (MIA) is proposed for the 4Tb/in2 two-dimensional inter-symbol interference (2D-ISI) channels, such as the bit-patterned magnetic recording (BPMR) and two-dimensional magnetic recording (TDMR). The basic idea is to exploit the MIA between the input and output of a 2D detector to establish a log-likelihood ratio (LLR) distribution model based on the MIA results, which compensates the gap caused by the 2D ISI channel. Consequently, the polar codes obtained by the optimization techniques previously developed for the additive white Gaussian noise (AWGN) channels can also have satisfactory performances over 2D-ISI channels. Simulated results show that the proposed polar codes can outperform the polar codes constructed by the traditional methods over 4Tb/in2 2D-ISI channels.

In this paper, we present a novel method for vehicle detection based on the Faster R-CNN frame. We integrate MobileNet into Faster R-CNN structure. First, the MobileNet is used as the base network to generate the feature map. In order to retain the more information of vehicle objects, a fusion strategy is applied to multi-layer features to generate a fused feature map. The fused feature map is then shared by region proposal network (RPN) and Fast R-CNN. In the RPN system, we employ a novel dimension cluster method to predict the anchor sizes, instead of choosing the properties of anchors manually. Our detection method improves the detection accuracy and saves computation resources. The results show that our proposed method respectively achieves 85.21% and 91.16% on the mean average precision (mAP) for DIOR dataset and UA-DETRAC dataset, which are respectively 1.32% and 1.49% improvement than Faster R-CNN (ResNet152). Also, since less operations and parameters are required in the base network, our method costs the storage size of 42.52MB, which is far less than 214.89MB of Faster R-CNN(ResNet50).

In this paper, we propose new generation methods of two-dimensional (2D) optical zero-correlation zone (ZCZ) sequences with the high peak autocorrelation amplitude. The 2D optical ZCZ sequence consists of a pair of a binary sequence which takes 1 or 0 and a bi-phase sequence which takes 1 or -1, and has a zero-correlation zone in the two-dimensional correlation function. Because of these properties, the 2D optical ZCZ sequence is suitable for optical code-division multiple access (OCDMA) system using an LED array having a plurality of light-emitting elements arranged in a lattice pattern. The OCDMA system using the 2D optical ZCZ sequence can be increased the data rate and can be suppressed interference by the light of adjacent LEDs. By using the proposed generation methods, we can improve the peak autocorrelation amplitude of the sequence. This means that the BER performance of the OCDMA system using the sequence can be improved.
Maximum inner product search (MIPS) problem has gained much attention in a wide range of applications. In order to overcome the curse of dimensionality in high-dimensional spaces, most of existing methods first transform the MIPS problem into another approximate nearest neighbor search (ANNS) problem and then solve it by Locality Sensitive Hashing (LSH). However, due to the error incurred by the transmission and incomprehensive search strategies, these methods suffer from low precision and have loose probability guarantees. In this paper, we propose a novel search method named Adaptive-LSH (AdaLSH) to solve MIPS problem more efficiently and more precisely. AdaLSH examines objects in the descending order of both norms and (the probably correctly estimated) cosine angles with a query object in support of LSH with extendable windows. Such extendable windows bring not only efficiency in searching but also the probability guarantee of finding exact or approximate MIP objects. AdaLSH gives a better probability guarantee of success than those in conventional algorithms, bringing less running times on various datasets compared with them. In addition, AdaLSH can even support exact MIPS with probability guarantee.
