    Side-channel analysis is one of the most investigated hardware Trojan detection approaches. However, nearly all the side-channel analysis approaches require golden chips for reference, which are hard to obtain actually. Besides, majority of existing Trojan detection algorithms focus on the data similarity and ignore the Trojan misclassification during the detection. In this paper, we propose a cost-sensitive golden chip-free hardware Trojan detection framework, which aims to minimize the probability of Trojan misclassification during the detection. The post-layout simulation data of voltage variations at different process corners is utilized as a golden reference. Further, a classification algorithm based on the combination of principal component analysis and Naïve bayes is exploited to identify the existence of hardware Trojan with a minimum misclassification risk. Experimental results on ASIC demonstrate that the proposed approach improves the detection accuracy ratio compared with the three detection algorithms and distinguishes the Trojan with only 0.27% area occupies even under ±15% process variations.

  • Application of Gold Powder Made from Gold Leaf for Conductive Inks

    In this work, gold powder made from gold leaf investigated to have the potential as a filler of conductive ink. The resistance of a conductive film decreased from 6.2kΩ to 1 Ω by adding only 2.0wt% of gold powder to conductive polymer (PEDOT:PSS) ink. The change of the resistance depends on the characteristics of gold powder. Gold powder with smaller and uniform sizes and good dispersibility is beneficial to form a continuous percolation network.

    Photophysical properties of water-soluble porphyrin were studied in aqueous solutions with/without DNA and in DNA solid films. Ultrathin films were prepared from aqueous DNA solutions by a spin-coating method on glass or on gold nanoparticles (AuNPs). Remarkable enhancement of phosphorescence was observed for porphyrin immobilized in DNA films spin-coated on AuNPs, which was attributed to the electric field enhancement and the increased radiative rate by localized surface plasmon resonance of AuNPs.

    In this work, we report the in situ growth of gold nanoparticles (AuNPs) for the improvement of a transmission surface plasmon resonance (T-SPR) sensor to detect human immunoglobulin G (IgG). Human IgG was immobilized on an activated self-assembled monolayer of 11-mercaptoundecanoic on a gold-coated grating substrate. The T-SPR system was also used to monitor the construction of sensor chips as well as the binding of IgG and anti-IgG conjugated with AuNPs. After specific adsorption with IgG, the T-SPR signal was further enhanced by the in situ growth of AuNPs bound with anti-IgG. Using AuNP conjugation and in situ growth of bound AuNPs, the sensitivity of the IgG immunosensor was improved by two orders of magnitude compared with that without conjugated AuNPs.

    Compressed Sensing (CS) is known to provide better channel estimation performance than the Least Square (LS) method for channel estimation. However, multipath delays may not be resolved if they span between the grids. This grid problem of CS is an obstacle to super resolution channel estimation. An Atomic Norm (AN) minimization is one of the methods for estimating continuous parameters. The AN minimization can successfully recover a spectrally sparse signal from a few time-domain samples even though the dictionary is continuous. There are studies showing that the AN minimization method has better resolution than conventional CS methods. In this paper, we propose a channel estimation method based on the AN minimization for Spread Spectrum (SS) systems. The accuracy of the proposed channel estimation is compared with the conventional LS method and Dantzig Selector (DS) of the CS. In addition to the application of channel estimation in wireless communication, we also show that the AN minimization can be applied to Global Positioning System (GPS) using Gold sequence.

  • Contact Resistance Property of Gold Plated Contact Covered with Contact Lubricant Under High Temperature

    At the present time, as downsizing of connectors causes thin gold plated layer and low contact load, serious problem of degradation of contact resistance property is induced. For these contacts, corrosion of the contacts surface under environment and high temperature as soldering and reflow process should be existed. Oxidation of base metal atoms which are diffused from under layer and additives occurs. Contact resistance increases for both surface contamination and low contact load. In order to resolve these problems and wear of surface, application of contact lubricants is useful and effective. However, degradation of the lubricants under such reflow process as high temperature possibly occurs. Therefore, in this study, from view point of change of lubricant quality as viscosity, weight loss, polymerization, oxidation and molecular orientation were clarified. For increase in contact resistance, orientation of lubricant molecular acts as important factor was found. The other factors of the lubricant hardly does not effect on contact resistance.

    In this paper, we present sub-1-V CMOS-based electrophoresis method for small-form-factor biomolecule manipulation that is contained in a microchip. This is the first time this type of device has been presented in the literature. By combining CMOS technology with electroless gold plating, the electrode pitch can be reduced and the required input voltage can be decreased to less than 1 V. We fabricated the CMOS electrophoresis chip in a cost-competitive 0.6 µm standard CMOS process. A sample/hold circuit in each cell is used to generate a constant output from an analog input. After forming gold electrodes using an electroless gold plating technique, we were able to manipulate red food coloring with a 0-0.7 V input voltage range. The results shows that the proposed CMOS chip is effective for electrophoresis-based manipulation.

    Outsourcing IC design and fabrication is one of the effective solutions to reduce design cost but it may cause severe security risks. Particularly, malicious outside vendors may implement Hardware Trojans (HTs) on ICs. When we focus on IC design phase, we cannot assume an HT-free netlist or a Golden netlist and it is too difficult to identify whether a given netlist is HT-free or not. In this paper, we propose a score-based hardware-trojans identifying method at gate-level netlists without using a Golden netlist. Our proposed method does not directly detect HTs themselves in a gate-level netlist but it detects a net included in HTs, which is called Trojan net, instead. Firstly, we observe Trojan nets from several HT-inserted benchmarks and extract several their features. Secondly, we give scores to extracted Trojan net features and sum up them for each net in benchmarks. Then we can find out a score threshold to classify HT-free and HT-inserted netlists. Based on these scores, we can successfully classify HT-free and HT-inserted netlists in all the Trust-HUB gate-level benchmarks and ISCAS85 benchmarks as well as HT-free and HT-inserted AES gate-level netlists. Experimental results demonstrate that our method successfully identify all the HT-inserted gate-level benchmarks to be “HT-inserted” and all the HT-free gate-level benchmarks to be “HT-free” in approximately three hours for each benchmark.

    In this paper, we propose demodulators for the Golden and Alamouti codes in amplify-and-forward (AF) cooperative communication with one relay. The proposed demodulators output exact log likelihood ratios (LLRs) with recursion based on the Jacobian logarithm. The cooperative system with the proposed demodulator for the Golden code has the benefit of efficient data transmission, while the system for the Alamouti code has low demodulation complexity. Quantitative analyses of computational complexity of the proposed demodulators are conducted. The transmission performance for various relay location and power settings is evaluated on cooperative orthogonal frequency division multiplexing (OFDM)-based wireless local area network (LAN) systems. In evaluations, the optimal relay location and power settings are found. The cooperative system with the proposed demodulators for the Golden and Alamouti codes offers 1.5 and 1.9 times larger areas where 10.8 and 5.4Mbit/s can be obtained than a non-cooperative (direct) system in a typical office environment, respectively.

    Spreading sequences with appropriate negative auto-correlation can reduce average multiple access interference (MAI) in asynchronous DS/CDMA systems compared with the conventional Gold Sequences generated by linear feedback shift registers (LFSRs). We design spreading sequences with negative auto-correlation based on Gold sequences and the chaos theory for the Bernoulli map. By computer simulations, we evaluate BER performances of asynchronous DS/CDMA systems using the proposed sequences.

    The importance of respiratory monitoring systems during sleep have increased due to early diagnosis of sleep apnea syndrome (SAS) in the home. This paper presents a simple respiratory monitoring system suitable for home use having 3D ranging of targets. The range resolution and azimuth resolution are obtained by a stepped frequency transmitting signal and MIMO arrays with preferred pair M-sequence codes doubly modulating in transmission and reception, respectively. Due to the use of these codes, Gold sequence codes corresponding to all the antenna combinations are equivalently modulated in receiver. The signal to interchannel interference ratio of the reconstructed image is evaluated by numerical simulations. The results of experiments on a developed prototype 3D-MIMO radar system show that this system can extract only the motion of respiration of a human subject 2 m apart from a metallic rotatable reflector. Moreover, it is found that this system can successfully measure the respiration information of sleeping human subjects for 96.6 percent of the whole measurement time except for instances of large posture change.

  • GridFTP-APT: Automatic Parallelism Tuning Mechanism for GridFTP in Long-Fat Networks

    In this paper, we propose an extension to GridFTP that optimizes its performance by dynamically adjusting the number of parallel TCP connections. GridFTP has been used as a data transfer protocol to effectively transfer a large volume of data in Grid computing. GridFTP supports a feature called parallel data transfer that improves throughput by establishing multiple TCP connections in parallel. However, for achieving high GridFTP throughput, the number of TCP connections should be optimized based on the network status. In this paper, we propose an automatic parallelism tuning mechanism called GridFTP-APT (GridFTP with Automatic Parallelism Tuning) that adjusts the number of parallel TCP connections according to information available to the Grid middleware. Through simulations, we demonstrate that GridFTP-APT significantly improves the performance of GridFTP in various network environments.

    In this paper, a new family of binary sequences of period 2n-1 with low correlation is proposed for integer n=em and even m. The new family has family size 2n+1 and maximum nontrivial correlation +1 and +1 for even and odd e respectively. Especially, for n=2m and 3m, we obtain a new family of binary sequences with maximum nontrivial correlation +1, and the obtained family is one of the binary families with best correlation among the known families with family size no less than their period 2n-1 for even n. Moreover, the correlation distribution of the new family is also determined.

    Time variations of the wireless channel cause Inter-Carrier Interference (ICI) between different subcarriers in an OFDM system. In a highly mobile environment this interference may become so high that it degrades up to unacceptable levels the communication channel. In this paper, firstly we obtain a simplified expression for the total ICI experienced by every subcarrier in an OFDMA system. Unlike other previous works, the result establishes an explicit and useful relation between the ICI on each subcarrier and the speed of the rest of the terminals in the system. Then, by means of a mathematical analysis we extend the scope of that expression to a hybrid system in which OFDMA and CDMA are combined. Using the good autocorrelation and cross-correlation properties provided by Gold-sequences we propose a Gold-Code-based CDMA-OFDMA transmission technique for the asynchronous uplink channel. We show that the proposed method can reduce the total ICI and potentially increase the capacity of the system in comparison to a conventional OFDMA system.

    Low-temperature poly-Si thin film transistor with gate-overlapped LDD (GOLD) structure was fabricated. Reliability was evaluated using electrical stress method comparing conventional LDD and single drain structures. As previous researchers have reported, we have confirmed that the degradation of ON current and the field effect mobility was very small compared to conventional LDD or non-LDD structures. We have analyzed the reliability of the GOLD TFT using two-dimensional device simulator. We have clarified that vertical negative field plays a dominant role for improving the reliability in the GOLD TFT. Impact ionization occurs far from the interface between the oxide and poly-silicon by the vertical negative field. GOLD structure is promising for the realization of system on panel.

    In this letter, we present a method to generate sets of sequences suitable for multicode transmission in quasi-synchronous (QS) CDMA systems. We focus on Gold code but extension to orthogonal Gold code is straightforward. We show that by appropriate classification of sequences, it is possible to have sets whose cross correlation is small in QS situations.

  • Contact Fretting of Electronic Connectors

    Connector contact resistance may become unstable if fretting occurs. Such motions result in the formation of insulating oxides on the surface of base metal contacts or organic polymers on contacts made of platinum group metals. These degradations are termed fretting corrosion and frictional polymerization, respectively. Motion may be caused by external vibration or fluctuating temperature. The lower the frequency of movement, the fewer the number of cycles to contact failure. Increasing the contact normal load or reducing the amplitude of movement may stabilize the connection. Tin and palladium and many of their alloys are especially prone to fretting failure. Tin mated to gold is worse than all-tin contacts. Gold and high gold-silver alloys that are softer when mated to palladium stabilize contact resistance since these metals transfer to the palladium during fretting; but flash gold coatings on palladium and palladium nickel offer marginal improvement for the gold often quickly wears out. Dissimilar metal contact pairs show behaviors like that of the metal which predominates on the surface by transfer. Contact lubricants can often prevent fretting failures and may even restore unlubricated failed contacts to satisfactory service.

  • Increase in Contact Resistance of Hard Gold Plating during Thermal Aging -- Nickel-Hardened Gold and Cobalt-Hardened Gold --

    Contact resistance of nickel hardened gold electroplate (NiHG) deposited on nickel-underplated phosphor bronze disk coupons (substrate) after thermal aging was measured with a hard gold-plated beryllium copper alloy pin probe by means of a four-point probe technique, compared to that of cobalt-hardened gold electroplate (CoHG). Surface of NiHG plated coupons after aging was analyzed by X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS) to investigate the influence of the oxide film formation during thermal aging on contact resistance of NiHG electroplate, compared to that of CoHG. Initial contact resistance of the NiHG coupons was less than 10 mΩ at a contact forces more than 0.05 N, increased to 10 mΩ at a contact force of 0.05 N after 100 hours aging at 200. In contrast, contact resistance of the CoHG coupons progressively increased with increase in aging time, reached 1000 mΩ even at a contact force of 0.05 N after 52 hours aging. XPS analysis for the NiHG coupons demonstrated that nickel oxide film was formed on the NiHG surface in conformity with parabolic growth kinetics, as cobalt oxide film formed on CoHG surface. However, a thickness of the latter film was approximately 4-fold larger than that of former after 100 hours aging at 200. The small increase in contact resistance of NiHG coupons after aging suggested to be due to inhibitory of nickel oxide film growth on the surface. The cause of relatively low and steady contact resistance of NiHG during thermal aging was discussed.

  • New Quasi-Synchronous Sequences for CDMA Slotted ALOHA Systems

    One of unique features of CDMA slotted ALOHA (CDMA S-ALOHA) is that user must synchronize his transmission to given slot. Thus orthogonal sequence as spreading sequence would achieve ideal throughput if each of packets accomplish perfect synchronization. In the presence of any ambiguity in synchronizations, however, quasi-synchronous (QS) sequences suit well with CDMA S-ALOHA system. In this paper, we introduce new QS-sequences obtained from the orthogonal Gold sequences and discuss their performance when applying to CDMA S-ALOHA systems. As a result, withstanding to access timing error, good performance is ensured with this sequence under the environment of AWGN, MAI (multiple access interference) and frequency non-selective fading, that is, micro or pico cellular systems and indoor wireless LANs.

  • Corrosion Mechanism Analysis of Salt Spray Test and Sulfur Dioxide Test on Gold Plated Connector Contact

    Gold on connector contacts is superior in environmental resistance. However, pores existing gold film are source to trigger the corrosion reaction between gold and base metal. For examination of the contacts, it has been popular to apply "Salt Spray Test" and "Sulfur Dioxide Test. " There are some differences of the corrosion products between two tests. Main metal forming the product in Salt Spray is Copper, and main metal in Sulfur Dioxide is Nickel. To investigate the reason, we tried to employ an electro-chemical method. As a result, it was found that there was the difference between the respective galvanic cell combinations generated through pores.
