The low-hit-zone (LHZ) frequency hopping sequence (FHS) sets are widely applicable in quasi-synchronous frequency hopping multiple-access (QS-FHMA) systems. In order to reduce mutual interference (MI) in the zone around the signal origin between different users, we recommend the LHZ FHS set instead of the conventional FHS set. In this letter, we propose a design of LHZ FHS sets via interleaving techniques. The obtained sequences can be confirmed that they are near-optimal in relation to the Peng-Fan-Lee bound.

This letter is devoted to constructing new Type-II Z-complementary pairs (ZCPs). A ZCP of length N with ZCZ width Z is referred to in short by the designation (N, Z)-ZCP. Inspired by existing works of ZCPs, systematic constructions of (2N+3, N+2)-ZCPs and (4N+4, 7/2N+4)-ZCPs are proposed by appropriately inserting elements into concatenated GCPs. The odd-length binary Z-complementary pairs (OB-ZCPs) are Z-optimal. Furthermore, the proposed construction can generate even-length binary Z-complementary pairs (EB-ZCPs) with ZCZ ratio (i.e. ZCZ width over the sequence length) of 7/8. It turns out that the PMEPR of resultant EB-ZCPs are upper bounded by 4.

The degree of reception of BS signals is affected by various factors. After routinely recording it at two observation points at two locations, we found that momentary upward and downward level shifts occurred multiple times, mainly during daytime. These level shifts were observed at one location. No such signal was sensed at the other location. After producing an algorithm to extract such momemtary level shifts, their statistical properties were investigated. Careful analyses, including assessment of the signal polarity, amplitude, duration, hours, and comparison with actual flight schedules and route information implied that these level shifts are attributable to the interference of direct and reflected waves from aircraft flying at approximately tropopause altitude. This assumption is further validated through computer simulations of BS signal interference.

In the massive machine-type communication scenario, aiming at the problems of active user detection and channel estimation in the grant-free non-orthogonal multiple access (NOMA) system, new sets of non-orthogonal spreading sequences are proposed by using the zero/low correlation zone sequence set with low correlation among multiple sets. The simulation results show that the resulting sequence set has low coherence, which presents reliable performance for channel estimation and active user detection based on compressed sensing. Compared with the traditional Zadoff-Chu (ZC) sequences, the new non-orthogonal spreading sequences have more flexible lengths, and lower peak-to-average power ratio (PAPR) and smaller alphabet size. Consequently, these sequences will effectively solve the problem of high PAPR of time domain signals and are more suitable for low-cost devices in massive machine-type communication.

In quasi-synchronous FH multiple-access (QS-FHMA) systems, no-hit-zone frequency-hopping sequences (NHZ-FHSs) can offer interference-free FHMA performance. But, outside the no-hit-zone (NHZ), the Hamming correlation of traditional NHZ-FHZs maybe so large that the performance becomes not good. And in high-speed mobile environment, Doppler shift phenomenon will appear. In order to ensure the performance of FHMA, it is necessary to study the NHZ-FHSs in the presence of transmission delay and frequency offset. In this paper, We derive a lower bound on the maximum time-frequency two-dimensional Hamming correlation outside of the NHZ of NHZ-FHSs. The Zeng-Zhou-Liu-Liu bound is a particular situation of the new bound for frequency shift is zero.

This letter provides a direct construction of binary even-length Z-complementary pairs. To date, the maximum zero correlation zone ratio of Type-I Z-complementary pairs has reached 6/7, but no direct construction of Z-complementary pairs can achieve the zero correlation zone ratio of 6/7. In this letter, based on Boolean function, we give a direct construction of binary even-length Z-complementary pairs with zero correlation zone ratio 6/7. The length of constructed Z-complementary pairs is 2m+3 + 2m + 2+2m+1 and the width of zero correlation zone is 2m+3 + 2m+2.

The ARM TrustZone architecture, which provides hardware-assisted isolation, is widely adopted in mobile and IoT devices. The security of ARM TrustZone relies on the idea of splitting system-on-chip hardware and software into two worlds, namely normal world and secure world. There are legitimate channels at the hardware level that the normal world and the secure world can use to communicate with each other. To protect these channels from being abused, research efforts were invested on restricting the access to these channels from normal world components. Therefore, only predefined and legitimate normal world components can use cross-world communication channels. In this work, we present a study on data covert channels that can bypass such protection mechanisms and smuggle sensitive information. We first analyze causes of the noise in the covert channel between two worlds. Then, we evaluate the accuracy and bandwidth of covert channels built by our PRIME+COUNT method with one built by PRIME+PROBE method. Our results demonstrate that PRIME+COUNT is an effective technique for enabling cross-world covert channels in the ARM TrustZone.

An asymmetric zero correlation zone (A-ZCZ) sequence set can be regarded as a special type of ZCZ sequence set, which consists of multiple sequence subsets. Each subset is a ZCZ sequence set, and have a common zero cross-correlation zone (ZCCZ) between sequences from different subsets. This paper supplements an existing construction of A-ZCZ sequence sets and further improves the research results. Besides, a new construction of A-ZCZ sequence sets is proposed by matrices transformation. The obtained sequence sets are optimal with respect to theoretical bound, and the parameters can be chosen more flexibly, such as the number of subsets and the lengths of ZCCZ between sequences from different subsets. Moreover, as the diversity of the orthogonal matrices and the flexibility of initial matrix, more A-ZCZ sequence sets can be obtained. The resultant sequence sets presented in this paper can be applied to multi-cell quasi-synchronous code-division multiple-access (QS-CDMA) systems, to eliminate the interference not only from the same cell but also from adjacent cells.

Low-hit-zone frequency-hopping sequences (LHZ-FHSs) are frequency-hopping sequences with low Hamming correlation in a low-hit-zone (LHZ), which have important applications in quasi-synchronous communication systems. However, the strict quasi-synchronization may be hard to maintain at all times in practical FHMA networks, it is also necessary to minimize the Hamming correlation for time-shifts outside of the LHZ. The main objective of this letter is to propose a lower bound on the maximum correlation magnitude outside the low-hit-zone for LHZ-FHS sets. It turns out that the proposed bound is tight or almost tight in the sense that it can be achieved by some LHZ-FHS sets.

Frequency-hopping sequence (FHS) sets with low-hit-zone (LZH) can be well applied in quasi-synchronous (QS) frequency-hopping multiple-access (FHMA) systems to reduce the mutual interference among different users. On the other hand, LHZ-FHS sets with wide-gap (WG) property can effectively resist the broadband blocking interference, the single frequency narrowband interference, the multipath fading and the tracking interference. In this letter, a new family of WG-LHZ-FHS sets is constructed. Besides, these new WG-LHZ-FHS sets possess optimal average periodic Hamming correlation (APHC) properties.

Inspired by an idea due to Levenshtein, we apply the low correlation zone constraint in the analysis of the weighted mean square aperiodic correlation. Then we derive a lower bound on the measure for quasi-complementary sequence sets with low correlation zone (LCZ-QCSS). We discuss the conditions of tightness for the proposed bound. It turns out that the proposed bound is tighter than Liu-Guan-Ng-Chen bound for LCZ-QCSS. We also derive a lower bound for QCSS, which improves the Liu-Guan-Mow bound in general.

In this paper, we propose new generation methods of two-dimensional (2D) optical zero-correlation zone (ZCZ) sequences with the high peak autocorrelation amplitude. The 2D optical ZCZ sequence consists of a pair of a binary sequence which takes 1 or 0 and a bi-phase sequence which takes 1 or -1, and has a zero-correlation zone in the two-dimensional correlation function. Because of these properties, the 2D optical ZCZ sequence is suitable for optical code-division multiple access (OCDMA) system using an LED array having a plurality of light-emitting elements arranged in a lattice pattern. The OCDMA system using the 2D optical ZCZ sequence can be increased the data rate and can be suppressed interference by the light of adjacent LEDs. By using the proposed generation methods, we can improve the peak autocorrelation amplitude of the sequence. This means that the BER performance of the OCDMA system using the sequence can be improved.

This letter investigates the secure transmission improvement scheme for indoor visible light communications (VLC) by using the protected zone. Firstly, the system model is established. For the input signal, the non-negativity and the dimmable average optical intensity constraint are considered. Based on the system model, the secrecy capacity for VLC without considering the protected zone is obtained. After that, the protected zone is determined, and the construction of the protected zone is also provided. Finally, the secrecy capacity for VLC with the protected zone is derived. Numerical results show that the secure performance of VLC improves dramatically by employing the protected zone.

Frequency-hopping sequence (FHS) sets with low-hit-zone (LHZ) have Hamming correlations maintained at a low level as long as the relative time delay between different sequences are limited in a zone around the origin, and thus can be well applied in quasi-synchronous (QS) frequency-hopping multiple-access (FHMA) systems to reduce the mutual interference between different users. Moreover, the periodic partial Hamming correlation (PPHC) properties of employed LHZ-FHS sets usually act as evaluation criterions for the performances of QS-FHMA systems in practice. In this letter, a new class of LHZ-FHS sets is constructed via interleaving techniques. Furthermore, these new LHZ-FHS sets also possess optimal PPHC properties and parameters not included in the related literature.

In this letter, a generic method to construct mutually orthogonal binary zero correlation zone (ZCZ) sequence sets from mutually orthogonal complementary sequence sets (MOCSSs) with certain properties is presented at first. Then MOCSSs satisfying conditions are generated from binary orthogonal matrices with order N×N, where N=p-1, p is a prime. As a result, mutually orthogonal binary ZCZ sequence sets with parameters (2N2,N,N+1)-ZCZ can be obtained, the number of ZCZ sets is N. Note that each single ZCZ sequence set is optimal with respect to the theoretical bound.

In this paper, we propose a generation method of new mutually zero-correlation zone set of optical orthogonal sequences (MZCZ-OOS) consisting of binary and bi-phase sequence pairs based on the optical zero-correlation zone (ZCZ) sequence set. The MZCZ-OOS is composed of several small orthogonal sequence sets. The sequences that belong to same subsets are orthogonal, and there is a ZCZ between the sequence that belong to different subsets. The set is suitable for the M-ary quasi-synchronous optical code-division multiple access (M-ary/QS-OCDMA) system. The product of set size S and family size M of proposed MMZCZ-OOS is more than the upper bound of optical ZCZ sequence set, and is fewer than the that of optical orthogonal sequence set.

The present paper introduces a novel type of structured ternary sequences having a zero-correlation zone (zcz) for both periodic and aperiodic correlation functions. The cross-correlation function and the side lobe of the auto-correlation function of the proposed sequence set are zero for phase shifts within the zcz. The proposed zcz sequence set can be generated from an arbitrary pair of an Hadamard matrix of order lh and a binary/ternary perfect sequence of length lp. The sequence set of order 0 is identical to the r-th row of the Hadamard matrix. For m ≥ 0, the sequence set of order (m+1) is constructed from the sequence set of order m by sequence concatenation and interleaving. The sequence set has lp subsets of size 2lh. The periodic correlation function and the aperiodic correlation function of the proposed sequence set have a zcz from -(2m+1-1) to 2m+1-1. The periodic correlation function and the aperiodic correlation function of the sequences of the i-th subset and k-th subset have a zcz from -2m+2-(lh+1)((j-k) mod lp) to -2m+2-(lh+1)((j-k) mod lp). The proposed sequence is suitable for a heterogeneous wireless network, which is one of the candidates for the fifth-generation mobile networks.

The traditional Markov prediction methods of the taxi destination rely only on the previous 2 to 3 GPS points. They negelect long-term dependencies within a taxi trajectory. We adopt a Recurrent Neural Network (RNN) to explore the long-term dependencies to predict the taxi destination as the multiple hidden layers of RNN can store these dependencies. However, the hidden layers of RNN are very sensitive to small perturbations to reduce the prediction accuracy when the amount of taxi trajectories is increasing. In order to improve the prediction accuracy of taxi destination and reduce the training time, we embed suprisal-driven zoneout (SDZ) to RNN, hence a taxi destination prediction method by regularized RNN with SDZ (TDPRS). SDZ can not only improve the robustness of TDPRS, but also reduce the training time by adopting partial update of parameters instead of a full update. Experiments with a Porto taxi trajectory data show that TDPRS improves the prediction accuracy by 12% compared to RNN prediction method in literature[4]. At the same time, the prediction time is reduced by 7%.

By interleaving known Z-periodic complementary (ZPC) sequence set, a new ZPC sequence set is constructed with multiple ZPC sequence subsets based on an orthogonal matrix in this work. For this novel ZPC sequence set, which refer to as asymmetric ZPC (AZPC) sequence set, its inter-subset zero cross-correlation zone (ZCCZ) is larger than intra-subset zero correlation zone (ZCZ). In particular, if select a periodic perfect complementary (PC) sequence or PC sequence set and a discrete Fourier transform (DFT) matrix, the resultant sequence set is an inter-group complementary (IGC) sequence set. When a suitable shift sequence is chosen, the obtained IGC sequence set will be optimal in terms of the corresponding theoretical bound. Compared with the existing constructions of IGC sequence sets, the proposed method can provide not only flexible ZCZ width but also flexible choice of basic sequences, which works well in both synchronous and asynchronous operational modes. The proposed AZPC sequence sets are suitable for multiuser environments.
