Codebooks with small inner-product correlation have applied in direct spread code division multiple access communications, space-time codes and compressed sensing. In general, it is difficult to construct optimal codebooks achieving the Welch bound or the Levenstein bound. This paper focuses on constructing asymptotically optimal codebooks with characters of cyclic groups. Based on the proposed constructions, two classes of asymptotically optimal codebooks with respect to the Welch bound are presented. In addition, parameters of these codebooks are new.

The use of locating arrays is motivated by the use of generating software test suites to locate interaction faults in component-based systems. In this paper, we introduce a new combinatorial configuration, with which a general combinatorial description of $(ar{1},t)$-locating arrays is presented. Based on this characterization, a number of locating arrays by means of SSOA and difference covering arrays with prescribed properties are constructed effectively. As a consequence, upper bounds on the size of locating arrays with small number of factors are then obtained.

Shape matching with local descriptors is an underlying scheme in shape analysis. We can visually confirm the matching results and also assess them for shape classification. Generally, shape matching is implemented by determining the correspondence between shapes that are represented by their respective sets of sampled points. Some matching methods have already been proposed; the main difference between them lies in their choice of matching cost function. This function measures the dissimilarity between the local distribution of sampled points around a focusing point of one shape and the local distribution of sampled points around a referring point of another shape. A local descriptor is used to describe the distribution of sampled points around the point of the shape. In this paper, we propose an extended scheme for shape matching that can compensate for errors in existing local descriptors. It is convenient for local descriptors to adopt our scheme because it does not require the local descriptors to be modified. The main idea of our scheme is to consider the correspondence of neighboring sampled points to a focusing point when determining the correspondence of the focusing point. This is useful because it increases the chance of finding a suitable correspondence. However, considering the correspondence of neighboring points causes a problem regarding computational feasibility, because there is a substantial increase in the number of possible correspondences that need to be considered in shape matching. We solve this problem using a branch-and-bound algorithm, for efficient approximation. Using several shape datasets, we demonstrate that our scheme yields a more suitable matching than the conventional scheme that does not consider the correspondence of neighboring sampled points, even though our scheme requires only a small increase in execution time.

Event-triggered control is a method that the control input is updated only when a certain condition is satisfied (i.e., an event occurs). In this paper, event-triggered control over a sensor network is studied based on the notion of uniformly ultimate boundedness. Since sensors are located in a distributed way, we consider multiple event-triggering conditions. In uniformly ultimate boundedness, it is guaranteed that if the state reaches a certain set containing the origin, the state stays within this set. Using this notion, the occurrence of events in the neighborhood of the origin is inhibited. First, the simultaneous design problem of a controller and event-triggering conditions is formulated. Next, this problem is reduced to an LMI (linear matrix inequality) optimization problem. Finally, the proposed method is demonstrated by a numerical example.

Locally repairable codes (LRCs) are implemented in distributed storage systems (DSSs) due to their low repair overhead. The locality of an LRC is the number of nodes in DSSs that participate in the repair of failed nodes, which characterizes the repair cost. An LRC is called optimal if its minimum distance attains the Singleton-type upper bound [1]. In this letter, optimal LRCs are considered. Using the concept of projective code in projective space PG(k, q) and shortening strategy, LRCs with d=3 are proposed. Meantime, derived from an ovoid [q2+1, 4, q2]q code (responding to a maximal (q2+1)-cap in PG(3, q)), optimal LRCs over Fq with d=4 are constructed.

This paper presents the first attribute-based signature (ABS) scheme in which the correspondence between signers and signatures is captured in an arithmetic model of computation. Specifically, we design a fully secure, i.e., adaptively unforgeable and perfectly signer-private ABS scheme for signing policies realizable by arithmetic branching programs (ABP), which are a quite expressive model of arithmetic computations. On a more positive note, the proposed scheme places no bound on the size and input length of the supported signing policy ABP's, and at the same time, supports the use of an input attribute for an arbitrary number of times inside a signing policy ABP, i.e., the so called unbounded multi-use of attributes. The size of our public parameters is constant with respect to the sizes of the signing attribute vectors and signing policies available in the system. The construction is built in (asymmetric) bilinear groups of prime order, and its unforgeability is derived in the standard model under (asymmetric version of) the well-studied decisional linear (DLIN) assumption coupled with the existence of standard collision resistant hash functions. Due to the use of the arithmetic model as opposed to the boolean one, our ABS scheme not only excels significantly over the existing state-of-the-art constructions in terms of concrete efficiency, but also achieves improved applicability in various practical scenarios. Our principal technical contributions are (a) extending the techniques of Okamoto and Takashima [PKC 2011, PKC 2013], which were originally developed in the context of boolean span programs, to the arithmetic setting; and (b) innovating new ideas to allow unbounded multi-use of attributes inside ABP's, which themselves are of unbounded size and input length.
New boundary integral equations are proposed for two-port slab waveguides which satisfy single mode condition. The boundary integral equations are combined with the orthogonality of guided mode and non-guided field. They are solved by the standard boundary element method with no use of mode expansion technique. Reflection and transmission coefficients of guided mode are directly determined by the boundary element method. To validate the proposed method, step waveguides for TE wave incidence and triangular rib waveguides for TM wave incidence are investigated by numerical calculations.

It is well known that the large-scale access of wind power to the power system will affect the economic and environmental objectives of power generation scheduling, and also bring new challenges to the traditional deterministic power generation scheduling because of the intermittency and randomness of wind power. In order to deal with these problems, a multiobjective optimization dispatch method of wind-thermal power system is proposed. The method can be described as follows: A multiobjective interval power generation scheduling model of wind-thermal power system is firstly established by describing the wind speed on wind farm as an interval variable, and the minimization of fuel cost and pollution gas emission cost of thermal power unit is chosen as the objective functions. And then, the optimistic and pessimistic Pareto frontiers of the multi-objective interval power generation scheduling are obtained by utilizing an improved normal boundary intersection method with a normal boundary intersection (NBI) combining with a bilevel optimization method to solve the model. Finally, the optimistic and pessimistic compromise solutions is determined by a distance evaluation method. The calculation results of the 16-unit 174-bus system show that by the proposed method, a uniform optimistic and pessimistic Pareto frontier can be obtained, the analysis of the impact of wind speed interval uncertainty on the economic and environmental indicators can be quantified. In addition, it has been verified that the Pareto front in the actual scenario is distributed between the optimistic and pessimistic Pareto front, and the influence of different wind power access levels on the optimistic and pessimistic Pareto fronts is analyzed.

This paper introduces the maximization version of the k-path vertex cover problem, called the MAXIMUM K-PATH VERTEX COVER problem (MaxPkVC for short): A path consisting of k vertices, i.e., a path of length k-1 is called a k-path. If a k-path Pk includes a vertex v in a vertex set S, then we say that v or S covers Pk. Given a graph G=(V, E) and an integer s, the goal of MaxPkVC is to find a vertex subset S⊆V of at most s vertices such that the number of k-paths covered by S is maximized. The problem MaxPkVC is generally NP-hard. In this paper we consider the tractability/intractability of MaxPkVC on subclasses of graphs. We prove that MaxP3VC remains NP-hard even for split graphs. Furthermore, if the input graph is restricted to graphs with constant bounded treewidth, then MaxP3VC can be solved in polynomial time.

Concept mapping is one of the instructional strategies implemented in collaborative learning to support discourse and learning. While prior studies have established its positive significance on the learning achievements and attitudes of students, they have also discovered that it can lead to students conducting less discussion on conceptual knowledge compared to procedural and team coordination. For instance, some inaccurate ideas are never challenged and can become ingrained. Designing a learning environment where individual knowledge is acknowledged and developed constructively is necessary to achieve similarity of individual knowledge after collaboration. This study applies the Reciprocal Kit Build (RKB) approach before collaborative concept mapping. The approach consists of three main phases: (1) individual map construction; (2) re-constructional map building; and (3) difference map discussion. Finally, each team will build a group map. Previous studies have shown that the visualization of similarities and differences during the third phase correlates with the improvement of concept map quality. The current paper presents our investigation on the effects of the first and second phases in terms of the final group products. We analyze the correlations between the similarity of individual knowledge represented in the first-phase maps, the comprehension of partner's representation during the second phase, and the changes of map scores. Our findings indicate that comprehension level is a stronger predictor than the similarity of individual knowledge for estimating score gain. The ways in which patterns of knowledge transfer from individual to group maps, which exhibit how the group products are built based on individual inputs, are also discussed. We illustrate that the number of shared and unshared links in the group solutions are proportionally distributed, and that the number of reconstructed links dominates the group solutions, rather than the non-reconstructed ones.

Cybersecurity has become a serious concern in our daily lives. The malicious functions inserted into hardware devices have been well known as hardware Trojans. In this letter, we propose a hardware-Trojan classification method at gate-level netlists utilizing boundary net structures. We first use a machine-learning-based hardware-Trojan detection method and classify the nets in a given netlist into a set of normal nets and a set of Trojan nets. Based on the classification results, we investigate the net structures around the boundary between normal nets and Trojan nets, and extract the features of the nets mistakenly identified to be normal nets or Trojan nets. Finally, based on the extracted features of the boundary nets, we again classify the nets in a given netlist into a set of normal nets and a set of Trojan nets. The experimental results demonstrate that our proposed method outperforms an existing machine-learning-based hardware-Trojan detection method in terms of its true positive rate.
The aim of this paper is to show an upper bound for finding defective samples in a group testing framework. To this end, we exploit minimization of Hamming weights in coding theory and define probability of error for our decoding scheme. We derive a new upper bound on the probability of error. We show that both upper and lower bounds coincide with each other at an optimal density ratio of a group matrix. We conclude that as defective rate increases, a group matrix should be sparser to find defective samples with only a small number of tests.

This study presents a new method to exploit both accent and grouping structures of music in meter estimation. The system starts by extracting autocorrelation-based features that characterize accent periodicities. Based on the local boundary detection model, we construct grouping features that serve as additional cues for inferring meter. After the feature extraction, a multi-layer cascaded classifier based on neural network is incorporated to derive the most likely meter of input melody. Experiments on 7351 folk melodies in MIDI files indicate that the proposed system achieves an accuracy of 95.76% for classification into nine categories of meters.

This paper presents a three-dimensional (3D) spatial localization algorithm by using multiple one-dimensional uniform linear arrays (ULA). We first discuss geometric features of the angle-of-arrival (AOA) measurements of the array and present the corresponding principle of spatial cone angle intersection positioning with an angular measurement model. Then, we propose a new positioning method with an analytic study on the geometric dilution of precision (GDOP) of target location in different cases. The results of simulation show that the estimation accuracy of this method can attain the Cramér-Rao Bound (CRB) under low measurement noise.
Many countries have deregulated their electricity retail markets to offer lower electricity charges to consumers. However, many consumers have not switched their suppliers after the deregulation, and electricity suppliers do not tend to reduce their charges intensely. This paper proposes an electricity market model and evolutionary game to analyze the behavior of consumers in electricity retail markets. Our model focuses on switching costs such as an effort at switching, costs in searching for other alternatives, and so on. The evolutionary game examines whether consumers choose a strategy involving exploration of new alternatives with the searching costs as “cooperators” or not. Simulation results demonstrate that the share of cooperators was not improved by simply giving rewards for cooperators as compensation for searching costs. Furthermore, the results also suggest that the degree of cooperators in a network among consumers has a vital role in increasing the share of cooperators and switching rate.

A method to reconstruct the surface shape of a scatterer from the relative intensity of the scattered field is proposed. Reconstruction of the scatterer shape has been studied as an inverse problem. An approach that employs boundary-integral equations can determine the scatterer shape with low computation resources and high accuracy. In this method, the reconstruction process is performed so that the error between the measured far field of the sample and the computed far field of the estimated scatterer shape is minimized. The amplitude of the incident wave at the sample is required to compute the scattered field of the estimated shape. However, measurement of the incident wave at the sample (measurement without the sample) is inconvenient, particularly when the output power of the wave source is temporally unstable. In this study, we improve the reconstruction method with boundary-integral equations for practical use and expandability to various types of samples. First, we propose new boundary-integral equations that can reconstruct the sample shape from the relative intensity at a finite distance. The relative intensity is independent from the amplitude of the incident wave, and the reconstruction process can be performed without measuring the incident field. Second, the boundary integral equation for reconstruction is discretized with boundary elements. The boundary elements can flexibly discretize various shapes of samples, and this approach can be applied to various inverse scattering problems. In this paper, we present a few reconstruction processes in numerical simulations. Then, we discuss the reason for slow-convergence conditions and introduce a weighting coefficient to accelerate the convergence. The weighting coefficient depends on the distance between the sample and the observation points. Finally, we derive a formula to obtain an optimum weighting coefficient so that we can reconstruct the surface shape of a scatterer at various distances of the observation points.

In decision feedback scheme, Forney's decision criterion (Forney's rule: FR) is optimal in the sense that the Neyman-Pearson's lemma is satisfied. Another prominent criterion called LR+Th was proposed by Hashimoto. Although LR+Th is suboptimal, its error exponent is shown to be asymptotically equivalent to that of FR by random coding arguments. In this paper, applying the technique of the DS2 bound, we derive an upper bound for the error probability of LR+Th for the ensemble of linear block codes. Then we can observe the new bound from two significant points of view. First, since the DS2 type bound can be expressed by the average weight distribution whose code length is finite, we can compare the error probability of FR with that of LR+Th for the fixed-length code. Second, the new bound elucidates the relation between the random coding exponents of block codes and those of linear block codes.
The Galois hull of linear code is defined to be the intersection of the code and its Galois dual. In this paper, we investigate the Galois hulls of cyclic codes over Fqr. For any integer s≤r, we present some sufficient and necessary conditions that cyclic codes have l-dimensional s-Galois hull. Moreover, we prove that a cyclic code C has l-dimensional s-Galois hull iff C has l-dimensional (r-s)-Galois hull. In particular, we also present the sufficient and necessary condition for cyclic codes with 1-dimensional Galois hulls and the relationship between cyclic codes with 1-dimensional Galois hulls and cyclic codes with Galois complementary duals. Some optimal cyclic codes with Galois hulls are obtained. Finally, we explicitly construct a class of cyclic codes with 1-Galois linear complementary dual over Fq3.
