Webpage texts are often emphasized by decorations such as bold, italic, underline, and text color using HTML (HyperText Markup Language) tags and CSS (Cascading Style Sheets). However, users with visual impairment often struggle to recognize decorations appropriately because most screen readers do not read decorations appropriately. To overcome this limitation, we propose a method to read emphasized texts by changing the reading voice parameters of a screen reader and adding sound effects. First, the strong emphasis types and reading voices are investigated. Second, the intensity of the emphasis type is used to calculate a score. Then the score is used to assign the reading method for the emphasized text. Finally, the proposed method is evaluated by users with and without visual impairment. The proposed method can convey emphasized texts, but future improvements are necessary.

In this letter, a deep neural network (DNN) aided joint source-channel (JSCC) decoding scheme is proposed for polar codes. In the proposed scheme, an integrated factor graph with an unfolded structure is first designed. Then a DNN aided flooding belief propagation decoding (FBP) algorithm is proposed based on the integrated factor, in which both source and channel scaling parameters in the BP decoding are optimized for better performance. Experimental results show that, with the proposed DNN aided FBP decoder, the polar coded JSCC scheme can have about 2-2.5 dB gain over different source statistics p with source message length NSC = 128 and 0.2-1 dB gain over different source statistics p with source message length NSC = 512 over the polar coded JSCC system with existing BP decoder.

In this paper, belief propagation (BP) multi-input multi-output (MIMO) detection with maximum ratio combining (MRC) and minimum mean square error (MMSE) pre-cancellation is proposed for overload MIMO. The proposed scheme applies MRC before MMSE pre-cancellation. The BP MIMO detection with MMSE pre-cancellation leads to a reduction in diversity gain due to the decreased number of connections between variable nodes and observation nodes in a factor graph. MRC increases the diversity gain and contributes to improve bit error rate (BER) performance. Numerical results obtained through computer simulation show that the BERs of the proposed BP MIMO detection with MRC and MMSE pre-cancellation yields bit error rates (BERs) that are approximately 0.5dB better than those of conventional BP MIMO detection with MMSE pre-cancellation at a BER of 10-3.

This paper proposes a dual-polarized filtering antenna with extracted-pole unit (EPU) using LTCC substrate. The EPU realizes the high skirt characteristic of the bandpass filter with transmission zeros (TZs) located near the passband without cross coupling. The filtering antenna with EPU is designed and fabricated in 28GHz band for 5G Band-n257 (26.5-29.5GHz). The measured S11 is less than -10.6dB in Band-n257, and the isolation between two ports for dual polarization is greater than 20.0dB. The measured peak antenna gain is 4.0dBi at 28.8GHz and the gain is larger than 2.5dBi in Band-n257. The frequency characteristics of the measured antenna gain shows the high skirt characteristic out of band, which are in good agreement with electromagnetic (EM)-simulated results.

This paper provides a new method to implement substrate integrated defected ground structure (SIDGS)-based bandpass filter (BPF) with adjustable frequency and controllable bandwidth. Compared with previous literature, this method implements a new SIDGS-like resonator capable of tunable frequency in the same plane as the slotted line using a varactor diode, increasing the design flexibility. In addition, the method solves the problem that the tunable BPF constituted by the SIDGS resonator cannot control the bandwidth by introducing a T-shaped non-resonant unit. The theoretical design method and the structural design are shown. Moreover, the configured structure is fabricated and measured to show the validity of the design method in this paper.

Common schedulers for long-term running services that perform task-level optimization fail to accommodate short-living batch processing (BP) jobs. Thus, many efficient job-level scheduling strategies are proposed for BP jobs. However, the existing scheduling strategies perform time-consuming objective optimization which yields non-negligible scheduling delay. Moreover, they tend to assign BP jobs in a centralized manner to reduce monetary cost and synchronization overhead, which can easily cause resource contention due to the task co-location. To address these problems, this paper proposes TEBAS, a time-efficient balance-aware scheduling strategy, which spreads all tasks of a BP job into the cluster according to the resource specifications of a single task based on the observation that computing tasks of a BP job commonly possess similar features. The experimental results show the effectiveness of TEBAS in terms of scheduling efficiency and load balancing performance.

This brief paper proposes a dual-wideband filter consisting of a parallel-coupled stepped-impedance-resonator (SIR) and open-circuited stubs. Firstly, a notched UWB (ultra-wideband) bandpass filter (BPF) with steep skirt characteristics is theoretically designed. Then a bandstop filter(BSF) is implemented using an SIR and open stubs. By replacing the transmission line part of UWB filter with the BSF, a novel dual-wideband filter (DWBPF) is realized. As a design example, a DWBPF with two passbands, i.e. 3.4-4.8GHz and 7.25-10.25GHz, is designed to validate the design procedure. The designed filter exhibits steep skirt characteristics.

A novel compact 5-pole bandpass filter (BPF) using two different types of resonators, one is coaxial TEM-mode resonator and the other dielectric triple-mode resonator, is proposed in this paper. The coaxial resonator is a simple single-mode resonator, while the triple-mode dielectric resonator (DR) includes one TM01δ mode and two degenerate HE11 modes. An excellent spurious performance of the BPF is obtained due to the different resonant behaviors of these two types of resonators used in the BPF. The coupling scheme of the 5-pole BPF includes two cascade triplets (CTs) which produce two transmission zeros (TZs) and a sharp skirt of the passband. Behaviors of the resonances, the inter-resonance couplings, as well as their tuning methods are investigated in detail. A procedure of mapping the coupling matrix of the BPF to its physical dimensions is developed, and an optimization of these physical dimensions is implemented to achieve best performance of the filter. The designed BPF is operated at 1.84GHz with a bandwidth of 51MHz. The stopband rejection is better than 20dB up to 9.7GHz (about 5.39×f0) except 7.85GHz. Good agreement between the designed and theoretically synthesized responses of the BPF is reached, verifying well the proposed configuration of the BPF and its design method.

To solve the problem of metamerism in the color reproduction process, various spectral reflectance reconstruction methods combined with neural network have been proposed in recent years. However, these methods are generally sensitive to initial values and can easily converge to local optimal solutions, especially on small data sets. In this paper, we propose a spectral reflectance reconstruction algorithm based on the Back Propagation Neural Network (BPNN) and an improved Sparrow Search Algorithm (SSA). In this algorithm, to solve the problem that BPNN is sensitive to initial values, we propose to use SSA to initialize BPNN, and we use the sine chaotic mapping to further improve the stability of the algorithm. In the experiment, we tested the proposed algorithm on the X-Rite ColorChecker Classic Mini Chart which contains 24 colors, the results show that the proposed algorithm has significantly better performance compared to other algorithms and moreover it can meet the needs of spectral reflectance reconstruction on small data sets. This paper proposes a novel multi-layer substrate integrated waveguide (SIW) resonator loaded with asymmetric E-shaped slot-lines and shows a tri-band band-pass filter (BPF) using the proposed structure. In the previous literature, various SIW resonators have been proposed to simultaneously solve the problems of large area and high insertion loss. Although these SIWs have a lower insertion loss than planar-type resonators using a printed circuit board, the size of these structures tends to be larger. A multi-layer SIW resonator loaded with asymmetric E-shaped slot-lines can solve the above problems and realize a tri-band BPF without increasing the size to realize further miniaturization. The theoretical design method and the structural design are shown. Moreover, the configured structure is fabricated and measured for showing the validity of the design method in this paper.

Manufacturers are coping with increasing pressures in quality, cost and efficiency as more and more industries are moving from traditional setup to industry 4.0 based digitally transformed setup due to its numerous playbacks. Within the manufacturing domain organizational structures and processes are complex, therefore adopting industry 4.0 and finding an optimized re-engineered business process is difficult without using a systematic methodology. Authors have developed Business Process Re-engineering (BPR) and Business Process Optimization (BPO) methods but no consolidated methodology have been seen in the literature that is based on industry 4.0 and incorporates both the BPR and BPO. We have presented a consolidated and systematic re-engineering and optimization framework for a manufacturing industry setup. The proposed framework performs Evolutionary Multi-Objective Combinatorial Optimization using Multi-Objective Genetic Algorithm (MOGA). An example process from an aircraft manufacturing factory has been optimized and re-engineered with available set of technologies from industry 4.0 based on the criteria of lower cost, reduced processing time and reduced error rate. At the end to validate the proposed framework Business Process Model and Notation (BPMN) is used for simulations and perform comparison between AS-IS and TO-BE processes as it is widely used standard for business process specification. The proposed framework will be used in converting an industry from traditional setup to industry 4.0 resulting in cost reduction, increased performance and quality.

In this paper, two-stage BP detection is proposed for overloaded MIMO. The proposal combines BP with the MMSE pre-cancellation algorithm followed by normal BP detection. In overloaded MIMO systems, the loops in a factor graph degrade the demodulation performance of BP detection. MMSE pre-cancellation reduces the number of connections or coefficient values in the factor graph which improves the convergence characteristics of posteriori probabilities. Numerical results obtained through computer simulation show that the BERs of the proposed two-stage BP detection outperforms the conventional BP with MMSE pre-cancellation in a low bit energy range when the MMSE block size is four and the number of MMSE blocks is one. When the pre-cancellation is applied for complexity reduction, the proposed scheme reduces multiplication operations and summation operations by the same factor of 0.7 though the amount of the performance improvement to the conventional scheme is limited.

Realizing frequency rectangular characteristics using a planar circuit made of a normal conductor material such as a printed circuit board (PCB) is difficult. The reason is that the corners of the frequency response are rounded by the effect of the low unloaded quality factors of the resonators. Rectangular frequency characteristics are generally realized by a low-noise amplifier (LNA) with flat gain characteristics and a high-order bandpass filter (BPF) with resonators having high unloaded quality factors. Here, we use an LNA and a fourth-order flat passband BPF made of a PCB to realize the desired characteristics. We first calculate the signal and noise powers to confirm any effects from insertion loss caused by the BPF. Next, we explain the design and fabrication of an LNA, since no proper LNAs have been developed for this research. Finally, the rectangular frequency characteristics are shown by a circuit combining the fabricated LNA and the fabricated flat passband BPF. We show that rectangular frequency characteristics can be realized using a flat passband BPF technique.

In this letter, a method for the construction of polar codes based on the mutual information approximation (MIA) is proposed for the 4Tb/in2 two-dimensional inter-symbol interference (2D-ISI) channels, such as the bit-patterned magnetic recording (BPMR) and two-dimensional magnetic recording (TDMR). The basic idea is to exploit the MIA between the input and output of a 2D detector to establish a log-likelihood ratio (LLR) distribution model based on the MIA results, which compensates the gap caused by the 2D ISI channel. Consequently, the polar codes obtained by the optimization techniques previously developed for the additive white Gaussian noise (AWGN) channels can also have satisfactory performances over 2D-ISI channels. Simulated results show that the proposed polar codes can outperform the polar codes constructed by the traditional methods over 4Tb/in2 2D-ISI channels.

In Internet applications, when users search for information, the search engines invariably return some invalid webpages that do not contain valid information. These invalid webpages interfere with the users' access to useful information, affect the efficiency of users' information query and occupy Internet resources. Accurate and fast filtering of invalid webpages can purify the Internet environment and provide convenience for netizens. This paper proposes an invalid webpage filtering model (HAIF) based on deep learning and hierarchical attention mechanism. HAIF improves the semantic and sequence information representation of webpage text by concatenating lexical-level embeddings and paragraph-level embeddings. HAIF introduces hierarchical attention mechanism to optimize the extraction of text sequence features and webpage tag features. Among them, the local-level attention layer optimizes the local information in the plain text. By concatenating the input embeddings and the feature matrix after local-level attention calculation, it enriches the representation of information. The tag-level attention layer introduces webpage structural feature information on the attention calculation of different HTML tags, so that HAIF is better applicable to the Internet resource field. In order to evaluate the effectiveness of HAIF in filtering invalid pages, we conducted various experiments. Experimental results demonstrate that, compared with other baseline models, HAIF has improved to various degrees on various evaluation criteria.

In this paper, the application of minimum mean square error (MMSE) pre-cancellation prior to belief propagation (BP) is proposed as a detection scheme for overloaded multiple-input multiple-output (MIMO) systems. In overloaded MIMO systems, the loops in the factor graph degrade the demodulation performance of BP. Therefore, the proposed scheme applies MMSE pre-cancellation prior to BP and reduces the number of loops. Furthermore, it is applied to the selected transmit and receive nodes so that the condition number of an inverse matrix in the MMSE weight matrix is minimized to suppress the residual interference and the noise after MMSE pre-cancellation. Numerical results obtained through computer simulation show that the proposed scheme achieves better bit error rate (BER) performance than BP without MMSE pre-cancellation. The proposed scheme improves the BER performance by 2.9-5.6dB at a BER of 5.0×10-3 compared with conventional BP. Numerical results also show that MMSE pre-cancellation reduces the complexity of BP by a factor of 896 in terms of the number of multiplication operations.

The paper employed an Alexnet, which is a deep learning framework, to automatically diagnose the damages of wind power generator blade surfaces. The original images of wind power generator blade surfaces were captured by machine visions of a 4-rotor UAV (unmanned aerial vehicle). Firstly, an 8-layer Alexnet, totally including 21 functional sub-layers, is constructed and parameterized. Secondly, the Alexnet was trained with 10000 images and then was tested by 6-turn 350 images. Finally, the statistic of network tests shows that the average accuracy of damage diagnosis by Alexnet is about 99.001%. We also trained and tested a traditional BP (Back Propagation) neural network, which have 20-neuron input layer, 5-neuron hidden layer, and 1-neuron output layer, with the same image data. The average accuracy of damage diagnosis of BP neural network is 19.424% lower than that of Alexnet. The point shows that it is feasible to apply the UAV image acquisition and the deep learning classifier to diagnose the damages of wind turbine blades in service automatically.

This paper proposes a new design criterion of adaptively scaled belief (ASB) in Gaussian belief propagation (GaBP) for large multi-user multi-input multi-output (MU-MIMO) detection. In practical MU detection (MUD) scenarios, the most vital issue for improving the convergence property of GaBP iterative detection is how to deal with belief outliers in each iteration. Such outliers are caused by modeling errors due to the fact that the law of large number does not work well when it is difficult to satisfy the large system limit. One of the simplest ways to mitigate the harmful impact of outliers is belief scaling. A typical approach for determining the scaling parameter for the belief is to create a look-up table (LUT) based on the received signal-to-noise ratio (SNR) through computer simulations. However, the instantaneous SNR differs among beliefs because the MIMO channels in the MUD problem are random; hence, the creation of LUT is infeasible. To stabilize the dynamics of the random MIMO channels, we propose a new transmission block based criterion that adapts belief scaling to the instantaneous channel state. Finally, we verify the validity of ASB in terms of the suppression of the bit error rate (BER) floor.

A simple and novel multiple-symbol differential detection (MSDD) scheme is proposed for IEEE 802.15.4 binary phase shift keying (BPSK) receivers. The detection is initiated by estimating and compensating the carrier frequency offset (CFO) effect in the chip sample of interest. With these new statistics, the decisions are jointly made by allowing the observation window length to be longer than two bit intervals. Simulation results demonstrate that detection reliability of the IEEE 802.15.4 BPSK receivers is significantly improved. Namely, at packet error rate (PER) of 1×10-3, the signal-to-noise ratio (SNR) gap between ideal coherent detection (perfect carrier reference phase and no CFO) with differential decoding and conventional optimal single differential coherent detection (SDCD) is filled by 2.1dB when the observation window length is set to 6bit intervals. Then, the benefit that less energy consumed by retransmissions is successfully achieved.

The accurate assessment of infants' pain is important for understanding their medical conditions and developing suitable treatment. Pediatric studies reported that the inadequate treatment of infants' pain might cause various neuroanatomical and psychological problems. The fact that infants can not communicate verbally motivates increasing interests to develop automatic pain assessment system that provides continuous and accurate pain assessment. In this paper, we propose a new set of pain facial activity features to describe the infants' facial expression of pain. Both dynamic facial texture feature and dynamic geometric feature are extracted from video sequences and utilized to classify facial expression of infants as pain or no pain. For the dynamic analysis of facial expression, we construct spatiotemporal domain representation for texture features and time series representation (i.e. time series of frame-level features) for geometric features. Multiple facial features are combined through both feature fusion and decision fusion schemes to evaluate their effectiveness in infants' pain assessment. Experiments are conducted on the video acquired from NICU infants, and the best accuracy of the proposed pain assessment approaches is 95.6%. Moreover, we find that although decision fusion does not perform better than that of feature fusion, the False Negative Rate of decision fusion (6.2%) is much lower than that of feature fusion (25%).
