Conventional orthogonal frequency division multiplexing (OFDM) system utilizes cyclic prefix (CP) to remove the channel-induced inter-symbol interference (ISI) at the cost of lower spectral efficiency. In this paper, a generalized sidelobe canceller (GSC) based equalizer for ISI suppression is proposed for uplink multi-antenna OFDM systems without CP. Based on the block representation of the CP-free OFDM system, there is a natural formulation of the ISI suppression problem under the GSC framework. By further exploiting the signal and ISI signature matrix structures, a computationally efficient partially adaptive (PA) implementation of the GSC-based equalizer is proposed for complexity reduction. The proposed scheme can be extended for the design of a pre-equalizer, which pre-suppresses the ISI and realizes CP-free downlink transmission to ease the computational burden of the mobile unit (MU). Simulation results show that the proposed GSC-based solutions yield equalization performances almost identical to that obtained by the conventional CP-based OFDM systems and are highly resistant to the increase in channel delay spread.

In this paper, we propose an angle of arrival (AOA)-based beamforming structure with strong interference resistant capability for OFDM systems. First, we present novel interference resistant angle of arrival (AOA) estimation schemes for each multipath without training sequences or symbols as the pre-processing of the proposed structure. The generalized sidelobe canceler (GSC) structure is thus applied with the AOA information to avoid calculating the beamforming weight vector individually on a per subcarrier basis, wherein the GSC structure with the reduced-rank multistage Wiener filter (MSWF) is adopted. We also propose a signal transformation scheme to improve performance before the signals are fed into the GSC receiver. The proposed receiver offers better performance than the GSC form of the constrained Wiener filter-based receiver due to the faster convergence property of reduced rank processing and the signal transformation scheme.

Machine learning and data mining algorithms are increasingly being used in the intrusion detection systems (IDS), but their performances are laggard to some extent especially applied in network based intrusion detection: the larger load of network traffic monitoring requires more efficient algorithm in practice. In this paper, we propose and design an anomaly intrusion detection (AID) system based on the vector quantization (VQ) which is widely used for data compression and high-dimension multimedia data index. The design procedure optimizes the performance of intrusion detection by jointly accounting for accurate usage profile modeling by the VQ codebook and fast similarity measures between feature vectors to reduce the computational cost. The former is just the key of getting high detection rate and the later is the footstone of guaranteeing efficiency and real-time style of intrusion detection. Experiment comparisons to other related researches show that the performance of intrusion detection is improved greatly.

Finding intracranial aneurysms plays a key role in preventing serious cerebral diseases such as subarachnoid hemorrhage. For detection of aneurysms, magnetic resonance angiography (MRA) can provide detailed images of arteries non-invasively. However, because over 100 MRA images per subject are required to cover the entire cerebrum, image diagnosis using MRA is very time-consuming and labor-intensive. This article presents a computer-aided diagnosis (CAD) system for finding aneurysms with MRA images. The principal components are identification of aneurysm candidates (= ROIs; regions of interest) from MRA images and estimation of a fuzzy degree for each aneurysm candidate based on a case-based reasoning (CBR). The fuzzy degree indicates whether a candidate is true aneurysm. Our system presents users with a limited number of ROIs that have been sorted in order of fuzzy degree. Thus, this system can decrease the time and the labor required for detecting aneurysms. Experimental results using phantoms indicate that the system can detect all aneurysms at branches of arteries and all saccular aneurysms produced by dilation of a straight artery in 1 direction perpendicular to the principal axis. In a clinical evaluation, performance in finding aneurysms and estimating the fuzzy degree was examined by applying the system to 16 subjects with a total of 19 aneurysms. The experimental results indicate that this CAD system detected all aneurysms except a fusiform aneurysm, and gave high fuzzy degrees and high priorities for the detected aneurysms.

In this paper authorization-limited transformation-free proxy cryptosystems (AL-TFP systems) are studied. It is a modification of the original proxy cryptosystem introduced by Mambo et al.[8] in which a ciphertext transformation by the original decryptor is necessary, and also a modification of the delegated decryption system proposed by Mu et al.[10]. In both systems proposed in [8] and [10], the original decryptors have to trust their proxies completely. The AL-TFP system allows the proxy decryptor to do decryption directly without any ciphertext transformation from the original decryptor, so that it can release the original decryptor more efficiently from a large amount of decrypting operations. Moreover, the original decryptor's privacy can be protected efficiently because the authority of proxy decryptor is limited to his duty and valid period. An active identity-based and a directory-based AL-TFP systems from pairings are proposed. Furthermore, an application of directory-based AL-TFP system to electronic commerce is also described. The securities of our schemes introduced are based on the BDH assumption.

A blind symbol synchronization scheme for MIMO and Multi-User OFDM systems is proposed, which utilizes short-time Fourier Transformation (STFT) to obtain 2D (time and frequency) timing information from the received signals. By analyzing the obtained 2D time-frequency amplitude spectrum, intervals where no inter-symbol interference (ISI) exists are checked out for symbol synchronization, and samples during these intervals are used to carry out carrier frequency offset estimation. Theoretical analysis and simulation results show that the proposed method is more robust and provides more accurate carrier frequency offset estimation than traditional schemes.

In this letter, a pilot structure and an efficient algorithm for downlink synchronization and cell searching in OFDM-based cellular systems are proposed. The pilots, randomly allocated in the frequency domain, allow us to minimize inter-cell interference (ICI) as well as to increase cell searching capability, estimation range of integer carrier frequency offset (CFO), and estimation accuracy of symbol timing offset (STO). The proposed low-complexity joint algorithm for integer CFO estimation, cell searching, and downlink detection is robust to ICI, multipath channel, STO and fine CFO.

When a large-size car exists on the ETC lane (Electronic Toll Collection System), there is the possibility that the interference on the adjacent lane occurs by the scattering waves from one. In this paper, we propose a new improvement method which the transparent EM wave absorber is placed between the ETC lane and the adjacent one in order to suppress the scattering waves from a large-size car. Therefore, we design the transparent EM wave absorber which consists of the transparent resistive and conductive films. Then, this absorber is produced, and its reflection and transmission coefficients are evaluated. In addition, its transmittance in optics is evaluated. As the results, the reflectivity of this absorber is obtained lower than -20 dB in the oblique incident angle from 0to 30at 5.8 GHz circular polarized wave, abbreviated as CP wave, and also the transmittivity is obtain lower than -27 dB in the oblique incident angle from 0to 70, respectively. On the other hand, the transmittance in optics is obtained higher than 60%. Moreover, we study experimentally on the ETC system with placing this absorber between the ETC lane and the adjacent one. We measured the distribution of receiving power on the adjacent lane, when a water sprinkler existed on the ETC lane. As a result, it is confirmed that the receiving power on the adjacent lane could be realized lower than -70.5 dBm, and then a new improvement method has proven to be very useful in the ETC system.

Interconnect Length Distribution (ILD) represents the correlation between the number of interconnects and their length. The ILD can predict power consumption, clock frequency, chip size, etc. High core utilization and small circuit area have been reported to improve chip performance. We propose an ILD model to predict the correlation between core utilization and chip performance. The proposed model predicts the influences of interconnect length and interconnect density on circuit performances. As core utilization increases, small and simple circuits improve the performances. In large complex circuits, decreasing the wire coupling capacitance is more important than decreasing the total interconnect length for improvement of chip performance. The proposed ILD model expresses the actual ILD more accurately than conventional models.

A multi-user space-time block coding (STBCa) system is a multi-access system where co-channel users employ space-time block codes (STBC). In this paper, we aimed at the design of efficient zero-forcing (ZF) receivers, especially ZF iterative interference cancellation (IC) receivers, for multi-user {G2, G3, G4} STBC systems with an arbitrary number of users, based on the identification of algebraic properties existing in the systems. First, we identify some algebraic properties for {G2, G3, G4} STBC systems. Then, utilizing these algebraic properties, we further expose two significative properties, called "ZF output uncorrelated property" and "ZF output equal Post-detection SNR property" respectively, for least-squares (LS) ZF receivers in multi-user {G2, G3, G4} STBC systems by detailed proofs. Based on the two properties, a novel LS ZF user-ordered successive interference cancellation (ZF UOSIC) detection algorithm is proposed subsequently. Finally, simulation results show that ZF UOSIC is superior to the conventional ZF IC and maximum-likelihood (ML) algorithms and the non-ordered ZF user-based SIC (ZF USIC) algorithm due to adopting iterative IC and optimal ordering among users, and has very close performance to the ZF symbol-ordered SIC but with lower complexity due to the fewer iterative times.

In optical burst switching (OBS) networks, the contention of optical bursts is the most serious problem due to the lack of buffers within the networks. Various deflection routing schemes and a routing scheme based on pre-calculated multiple paths have been proposed to resolve the contention. The latter routing scheme can successfully maintain a relatively limited transfer delay of optical bursts. This paper proposes a new decentralized routing scheme based on multiple paths to effectively resolve the contention of optical bursts. In this scheme, each source node splits the traffic load into pre-calculated multiple paths adaptively according to the measured loss rate of the optical bursts transferred through each path. This scheme does not require frequent notification of the measured loss rate because each source node selects one of the multiple paths probabilistically. In the OBS networks, the average transfer delay in the multi-path routing always exceeds that in a single-path routing because alternative paths with a larger transfer delay are also utilized in the multi-path routing. Thus, this paper proposes an adaptive load splitting method in which load splitting ratios for the multiple paths are autonomously adjusted to minimize the average transfer delay based on the condition that the required loss rate of optical bursts is satisfied. The performance of the proposed scheme was evaluated by computer simulation and based on the evaluation results; the ability of the proposed scheme to adjust the load splitting ratios for the multiple paths autonomously and avoid the contention of optical bursts adaptively is clarified even if the traffic load applied to the OBS network changes.

This work deploys Autonomous Decentralized System (ADS) based formulation to cluster of networked visual sensors. The goal is to utilize and integrate the sensing and networking capabilities of the sensors with the systematic and autonomous features of ADS to perform visual surveillance through object detection in the covered areas of interest. In the proposed approach, several cells are distributed through an area of interest called Autonomous Observer Cell. The decentralized subsystems detect and track moving objects present on the scene by looking through a camera embedded in each sensor. These subsystems form a cluster and each cluster sends information to an Autonomous Analysis Cell that determines if an object of interest is present. The Autonomous Observer Cells share a common data field and a cluster-head works as a gateway between the cluster and the Autonomous Analysis Cell.

The relative permittivity and permeability are discontinuous at the grating profile, and the electric and magnetic flux densities are continuous. As for the method of analysis for scattering waves by surface relief gratings placed in conical mounting, the spatial harmonic expansion approach of the flux densities are formulated in detail and the validity of the approach is shown numerically. The present method is effective for uniform regions such as air and substrate in addition to grating layer. The matrix formulations are introduced by using numerical calculations of the matrix eigenvalue problem in the grating region and analytical solutions separated for TE and TM waves in the uniform region are described. Some numerical examples for linearly and circularly polarized incidence show the usefulness of the flux densities expansion approach.

This paper concerns a new model for estimating the wire length distribution (WLD) of a system-on-a-chip (SoC). The WLD represents the correlation between wire length and the number of interconnects, and we can predict circuit performances such as power consumption, maximum clock frequency, and chip size from the WLD. A WLD model considering core utilization has been proposed, and the core utilization has a large impact on circuit performance. However, the WLD model can treat only a one-function circuit. We propose a new WLD model considering core utilization to estimate the wire length distribution of SoC, which consists of several different-function macroblocks. We present an optimization method to determine each core utilization of macroblocks.

Ubiquitous computing (ubicomp) is a computing para-digm which utilizes human-centric systems and applications. With the widespread use of information appliances, robots and sensors, the ubicomp paradigm is expected to become a reality in the near future. Because close interaction between a person and the computing environment is required for ubicomp, autonomous decentralized control will play an important role. In this paper, we discuss autonomous decentralized control in ubicomp from the viewpoint of typical ubicomp applications, smart environments and context-awareness.

Inference attacks mean that a user derives information on the execution results of unauthorized queries from the execution results of authorized queries. Most of the studies on inference attacks so far have focused on only inference of positive information (i.e., what value is the execution result of a given unauthorized query). However, negative information (i.e., what value is never the execution result of a given unauthorized query) is also sensitive in many cases. This paper presents the following results on the security against inference attacks on negative information in object-oriented databases. First, inference of negative information is formalized under a model of object-oriented databases called method schemas. Then, the following two types of security problems are defined: (1) Is a given database instance secure against inference attacks on given negative information? (2) Are all of the database instances of a given database schema secure against inference attacks on given negative information? It is shown that the first problem is decidable in polynomial time in the description size of the database instance while the second one is undecidable. A decidable sufficient condition for any database instance of a given database schema to be secure is also proposed. Finally, it is shown that for a monadic schema (i.e., every method has exactly one parameter), this sufficient condition is also a necessary one.

We propose a multiple dwell serial search (MDSS) code acquisition for optical code-division multiple-access (O-CDMA) systems and theoretically analyze its performance. The search/lock strategy (SLS) is used as verification scheme for the multiple dwell detector. The operation of SLS is modeled by finite Markov chain to analyze the performance of the proposed system. Effect of system parameters, such as number of users, threshold and mean photon count per chip, on the performance of the proposed system is investigated. The theoretical result shows that the performance of the proposed system is less sensitive to parameter settings than the conventional single dwell serial search (SDSS) code acquisition system is. In addition, the proposed MDSS code acquisition system offers shorter mean acquisition time than that of conventional SDSS system.

In OFDM systems, employing a cyclic prefix (CP) as the guard interval is a simple way to combat the inter-symbol interference (ISI) and the inter-carrier interference (ICI), however it reduces the transmission efficiency of the system, especially for some channels with a very long delay spread. In this paper, we consider the OFDM system with insufficient CP, much more efficient than conventional OFDM systems. First, we present the system mathematical model and give the ISI and ICI analysis. Then the signal-to-interference power ratio (SIR) performance is presented. To reduce the ISI and ICI due to the insufficient CP, we develop a minimum-mean-square-error decision feedback equalizer (MMSE_DFE). Based on the MMSE criterion, the optimum feedforward and feedback filter coefficients are derived. For time-varying channel, to avoid brute force matrix inversion in conventional schemes, we propose an adaptive LMS based solution to update the filtering coefficients by tracing the channel variation. Since the high complexity of MMSE_DFE, a reduced complexity scheme, ordered successive partial interference cancellation DFE (OSPIC_DFE), is developed. From the performance comparison between the MMSE_DFE and the OSPIC_DFE, we see that the latter is very near to the former. Finally the simulation shows these proposed methods are highly effective in combating ISI and ICI with low complexity.

A simple method for interleaving operation suitable for paralleled converter system is proposed. This method automatically detects the number of converters and adjusts phases between converter modules equally for any number of modules in the system. The method is realized by simple analog circuit which is easily implemented as conventional PWM controller IC. Principle of multiphase controlling circuit is introduced, and the influence of non-ideal circuit parameters on interleaving operation are discussed. A compensator for reducing phase error is also proposed to achieve wide-use application. Experimental and analytical results confirm the effectiveness of the proposed method.
