In this paper, we propose a new structure for a compact matched filter bank for a mutually orthogonal zero-correlation zone (MO-ZCZ) sequence set consisting of ternary sequence pairs obtained by Hadamard and binary ZCZ sequence sets; this construction reduces the number of two-input adders and delay elements. The matched filter banks are implemented on a field-programmable gate array (FPGA) with 51,840 logic elements (LEs). The proposed matched filter bank for an MO-ZCZ sequence set of length 160 can be constructed by a circuit size that is about 8.6% that of a conventional matched filter bank.

The present paper introduces a novel method for the construction of sequences that have a zero-correlation zone. For the proposed sequence set, both the cross-correlation function and the side lobe of the autocorrelation function are zero for phase shifts within the zero-correlation zone. The proposed scheme can generate a set of sequences, each of length 16n2, from an arbitrary Hadamard matrix of order n and a set of 4n trigonometric function sequences of length 2n. The proposed construction can generate an optimal sequence set that satisfies, for a given zero-correlation zone and sequence period, the theoretical bound on the number of members. The peak factor of the proposed sequence set is equal to √2.
A generalized chirp-like (GCL) sequence of period N is constructed by modulating a Zadoff-Chu sequence of period N with an arbitrary unimodular sequence of period m, where m divides N. Under some specific conditions, the cross-correlations between two GCL sequences are shown to have exactly the same magnitudes as those of their corresponding Zadoff-Chu sequences regardless of the employed unimodular sequences. In this paper, we first investigate the sufficient conditions under which such a relation holds. We then use them to construct a new class of optimal zero-correlation zone (ZCZ) sequence sets which can be considered to be an extension of the so-called GCL-ZCZ sequence sets.

An asymmetric zero correlation zone (A-ZCZ) sequence set is a type of ZCZ sequence set and consists of multiple sequence subsets. It is the most important property that is the cross-correlation function between arbitrary sequences belonging to different sequence subsets has quite a large zero-cross-correlation zone (ZCCZ). Our proposed A-ZCZ sequence sets can be constructed based on interleaved technique and orthogonality-preserving transformation by any perfect sequence of length P=Nq(2k+1) and Hadamard matrices of order T≥2, where N≥1, q≥1 and k≥1. If q=1, the novel sequence set is optimal ZCZ sequence set, which has parameters (TP,TN,2k+1) for all positive integers P=N(2k+1). The proposed A-ZCZ sequence sets have much larger ZCCZ, which are expected to be useful for designing spreading sequences for QS-CDMA systems.

The timing synchronization scheme for massive MIMO systems is proposed with CCK (Complementary Code Keying) codes in this letter. Our proposed scheme is specifically designed to generate synchronization sequence with large family size. The optimal sequences can be constructed with ZCZ or LCZ based on the number of antennas. Furthermore Monte Carlo simulation results confirmed the expected detection probability for massive MIMO systems.

In this paper, an adaptive expansion strategy (AES) is proposed for multiple-input/multiple-output (MIMO) detection in the presence of circular signals. By exploiting channel properties, the AES classifies MIMO channels into three types: excellent, average and deep fading. To avoid unnecessary branch-searching, the AES adopts single expansion (SE), partial expansion (PE) and full expansion (FE) for excellent channels, average channels and deep fading channels, respectively. In the PE, the non-circularity of signal is exploited, and the widely linear processing is extended from non-circular signals to circular signals by I (or Q) component cancellation. An analytical performance analysis is given to quantify the performance improvement. Simulation results show that the proposed algorithm can achieve quasi-optimal performance with much less complexity (hundreds of flops/symbol are saved) compared with the fixed-complexity sphere decoder (FSD) and the sphere decoder (SD).
This paper proposes a compact three-mode H-shaped resonator bandpass filter fed by antiparallel coupled input/output lines. To investigate the resonant behavior of the H-shaped resonator, even/odd-mode resonance conditions of the resonator are first derived analytically. The multimode resonances of the H-shaped resonator filter are modeled by a multipath circuit formed with resonance paths. Moreover, a direct source/load coupling path is connected in parallel, of which the value shows a frequency dependency because of the antiparallel coupled feeding lines, thereby generating four transmission zeros (TZs) greater than the number of a theoretical limitation. The H-shaped resonator bandpass filter is synthesized, developed, and tested, showing a third-order passband response with four TZs located near the passband, and a wide stopband property.

A novel analog decoding method using only 90-degree phase shifters is proposed to simplify the decoding method for short-range multiple-input multiple-output (MIMO) transmission. In a short-range MIMO transmission, an optimal element spacing that maximizes the channel capacity exists for a given transmit distance between the transmitter and receiver. We focus on the fact that the weight matrix by zero forcing (ZF) at the optimal element spacing can be obtained by using dividers and 90-degree phase shifters because it can be expressed by a unitary matrix. The channel capacity by the proposed method is next derived for the evaluation of the exact limitation of the channel capacity. Moreover, it is shown that an optimal weight when using directional antennas can be expressed by using only dividers, 90-degree phase shifters, and attenuators, regardless of the beam width of the directional antenna. Finally, bit error rate and channel capacity evaluations by both simulation and measurement confirm the effectiveness of the proposed method.
CLEFIA is a 128-bit block cipher proposed by Shirai et al. at FSE 2007, and it was selected as several standards. CLEFIA adopts a generalized Feistel structure with the switching diffusion mechanism, which realizes a compact hardware implementation for CLEFIA, and it seems one of the promising candidates to be used for restricted environments, which require that a cryptographic primitive is versatile. It means that we need to evaluate the security of CLEFIA even for unusual scenario such as known-key scenario. As Knudsen and Rijmen did for 7-round AES at Asiacrypt 2007, we construct 17-round known-key distinguisher using two integral characteristics. To combine the 17-round known-key distinguisher with the standard subkey recovery technique for a secret-key scenario, we can construct a known-key distinguisher for full CLEFIA-128 from a random permutation under the framework of middletext distinguisher proposed by Minier et al. at Africacrypt 2009. The known-key distinguisher requires query of 2112 texts, time complexity of 2112, and memory complexity of 23 blocks, with the advantage of e-1, where e is the base of the natural logarithm. Note that there is no practical impact on the security of CLEFIA-128 for the current usages, since the result can only work under the known-key setting and data used by the adversary are enormous and needs a special form.
N-Shift Zero Correlation Zone (NS-ZCZ) sequence is defined with the N-shift zero correlation zone in the correlation function. Namely, the N-shift zero only appears within the correlation zone symmetrically distributed in the center of the correlation function. Moreover, the traditional ZCZ sequences can be considered as the N-shift ZCZ sequence with N=1. Similar to ZCZ sequence, NS-ZCZ sequences can be applied in sequence design for co-channel interference mitigation with more sequences in the sequence set compared with the traditional N-shift sequences. In this letter, the definition and construction algorithms are proposed. The corresponding theoretical bounds are analyzed.

In this letter, constructions of sequences with perfect odd autocorrelation and sequence sets with zero odd correlation zone (ZOCZ) over the 8-QAM+ constellation are presented. Based on odd perfect ternary sequences, odd perfect sequences and ZOCZ sequence sets over the 8-QAM+ constellation are constructed by using shift vectors and mappings. These odd perfect sequences and ZOCZ sequence sets over 8-QAM+ constellation can be used in communication systems to achieve high transmission data rate (TDR) and low interference.

A wideband on-body antenna for a wireless body area network for an Industrial, Scientific, and Medical band is proposed. A wideband characteristic is achieved by combining two zeroth-order resonance (ZOR) modes at adjacent frequencies by controlling the value of the shunt capacitance. The size of the proposed antenna is 0.072λ0 × 0.33λ0, and the measured 10-dB return loss bandwidth is 340MHz (14.3%). In addition, the resonance frequencies operating in the ZOR mode are insensitive to the effects of the human body by virtue of the ZOR characteristic.

Design equations for satisfying off-nominal operating conditions of the class E amplifier with a nonlinear shunt capacitance for a grading coefficient of 0.5 and the duty cycle D=0.5 are derived. By exploiting the off-nominal class E operation, various amplifier parameters such as input voltage, operating frequency, output power, and load resistance can be set as design specifications. As a result of the analysis in this paper, the following extension of the usability of the class E amplifier was achieved. With rising up the dc supply voltage, the shunt capacitance which achieves the off-nominal operation can be increased. This means that a transistor with higher output capacitance can be used for ZVS operation. This also means that maximum operating frequency which achieves ZVS can be increased. An example of a design procedure of the class E amplifier is given. The theoretical results were verified with an experiment.

In LTE-Advanced heterogeneous networks, a typical cell layout to enhance frequency utilization is to incorporate picocells and femtocells in a macrocell. However, the co-channel interference between the marcocell and picocell/femtocell is an important issue when the same frequency band is used between these systems. We have already clarified how the interference from the femto(macro) cell affects on the macro(femto) cell. In this paper, we evaluate the interference rejection characteristics by an adaptive array with user equipment (UE). The characteristics are evaluated based on the K-factor used in the Nakagami-Race Fading model and the spatial correlation that is obtained in an actual outdoor environment. It is shown that a two-element adaptive array at the macro UE (M-UE) can sufficiently reduce the interference from the femto base station (F-BS) to the M-UE even if the number of total signals exceeds the degrees of freedom of the array.

High Efficiency Video Coding (HEVC) outperforms H.264 High Profile with bitrate saving of about 43%, mostly because block sizes for hybrid prediction and residual encoding are recursively chosen using a quadtree structure. Nevertheless, the exhaustive quadtree-based partition is not always necessary. This paper takes advantage of all-zero residual blocks at every quadtree depth to accelerate the prediction and residual encoding processes. First, we derive a near-sufficient condition to detect variable-sized all-zero blocks (AZBs). For these blocks, discrete cosine transform (DCT) and quantization can be skipped. Next, using the derived condition, we propose an early termination technique to reduce the complexity for motion estimation (ME). More significantly, we present a two-dimensional pruning technique based on AZBs to constrain prediction units (PU) that contribute negligibly to rate-distortion (RD) performance. Experiments on a wide range of videos with resolution ranging from 416240 to 4k2k, show that the proposed scheme can reduce computational complexity for the HEVC encoder by up to 70.46% (50.34% on average), with slight loss in terms of the peak signal-to-noise ratio (PSNR) and bitrate. The proposal also outperforms other state-of-the-art methods by achieving greater complexity reduction and improved bitrate performance.

The three-bit balanced ternary quantum voltage generator was designed and tested. This voltage generator is based on zero-crossing Shapiro steps (ZCSSs) in asymmetric two-junction SQUID. ZCSSs were observed on the current-voltage curves, and maximum and minimum current of ZCSSs were almost same, respectively for the three bits. 27-step quantum voltages from -13Φ0f to +13 Φ0f were observed by combinations of inputs of bit1, bit2 and bit3.

A construction of shift sequence sets is proposed. Multiple distinct shift sequence sets are obtained by changing the parameters of the shift sequences. The shift sequences satisfy the conditions that P|L and P ≥ 2, where P is the length of the shift sequences, L is the length of the zero-correlation zone or low-correlation zone (ZCZ/LCZ). Then based on these shift sequence sets, many shift distinct ZCZ/LCZ sequence sets are constructed by using interleaving technique and complex Hadamard matrices. Furthermore, the new construction is optimal under the conditions proposed in this paper. Compared with previous constructions, the proposed construction extends the number of shift distinct ZCZ/LCZ sequence sets, so that more sequence sets are obtained for multi-cell quasi-synchronous code-division multiple access (QS-CDMA) systems.

We present a privacy preserving method based on inserting dummy data into original data on the data structure called Zero-suppressed BDDs (ZDDs). Our task is distributed itemset mining, which is frequent itemset mining from horizontally partitioned databases stored in distributed places called sites. We focus on the fundamental case in which there are two sites and each site has a database managed by its owner. By dividing the process of distributed itemset mining into the set union and the set intersection, we show how to make the operations secure in the sense of undistinguishability of data, which is our criterion for privacy preserving based on the already proposed criterion, p-indistinguishability. Our method conceals the original data in each operation by inserting dummy data, where ZDDs, BDD-based directed acyclic graphs, are adopted to represent sets of itemsets compactly and to implement the set operations in constructing the distributed itemset mining process. As far as we know, this is the first technique which gives a concrete representation of sets of itemsets and an implementation of set operations for privacy preserving in distributed itemset mining. Our experiments show that the proposed method provides undistinguishability of dummy data. Furthermore, we compare our method with Secure Multiparty Computation (SMC), which is one of the well-known techniques of secure computation.

In time-varying frequency selective channels, to obtain high-rate joint time-frequency diversity, linear dispersion coded orthogonal frequency division multiplexing (LDC-OFDM), has recently been proposed. Compared with OFDM systems, single-carrier systems may retain the advantages of lower PAPR and lower sensitivity to carrier frequency offset (CFO) effects, which motivates this paper to investigate how to achieve joint frequency and time diversity for high-rate single-carrier block transmission systems. Two systems are proposed: linear dispersion coded cyclic-prefix single-carrier modulation (LDC-CP-SCM) and linear dispersion coded zero-padded single-carrier modulation (LDC-ZP-SCM) across either multiple CP-SCM or ZP-SCM blocks, respectively. LDC-SCM may use a layered two-stage LDC decoding with lower complexity. This paper analyzes the diversity properties of LDC-CP-SCM, and provides a sufficient condition for LDC-CP-SCM to maximize all available joint frequency and time diversity gain and coding gain. This paper shows that LDC-ZP-SCM may be effectively equipped with low-complexity minimum mean-squared error (MMSE) equalizers. A lower complexity scheme, linear transformation coded SCM (LTC-SCM), is also proposed with good diversity performance.

Recently, asymmetric zero-correlation zone (A-ZCZ) sequence sets that are composed of several sequence subsets have been proposed. In A-ZCZ sequence sets, the zero-cross-correlation zone (ZCCZ) length between different sequence subsets is larger than the zero-correlation zone (ZCZ) length in each sequence subset. However, the ZCCZ length between different sequence subsets was not precisely shown in previous studies. The present letter shows precisely the ZCCZ length between different sequence subsets. This information is useful for estimating the magnitude of inter-cell interference when designing approximately synchronized code-division multiple-access (AS-CDMA) systems.
