To provide a satellite communication system with high reliability for social infrastructure, building flexible beam adapting to change of communication traffic is necessary. Optical Beam Forming Network has the capability of broadband transmission and small light construction. However, in space environment, there are concerns that the reception efficiency is reduced by the relative phase error of receiving signal among antenna elements with temperature fluctuation. To prevent this, we control relative phase among received signals with optical phase locked loop. In this paper, we propose the active optical phased array system using multi dither heterodyning technique for receiving OBF, and present experimental results under temperature fluctuation. We evaluated the stability of relative phase among 3 elements for temperature fluctuation at multiplexer from -15 to 45, and checked the stability of PLL among 3 elements.

This paper presents a novel statistical sample-based approach for Gaussian Mixture Model (GMM)-based Voice Conversion (VC). Although GMM-based VC has the promising flexibility of model adaptation, quality in converted speech is significantly worse than that of natural speech. This paper addresses the problem of inaccurate modeling, which is one of the main reasons causing the quality degradation. Recently, we have proposed statistical sample-based speech synthesis using rich context models for high-quality and flexible Hidden Markov Model (HMM)-based Text-To-Speech (TTS) synthesis. This method makes it possible not only to produce high-quality speech by introducing ideas from unit selection synthesis, but also to preserve flexibility of the original HMM-based TTS. In this paper, we apply this idea to GMM-based VC. The rich context models are first trained for individual joint speech feature vectors, and then we gather them mixture by mixture to form a Rich context-GMM (R-GMM). In conversion, an iterative generation algorithm using R-GMMs is used to convert speech parameters, after initialization using over-trained probability distributions. Because the proposed method utilizes individual speech features, and its formulation is the same as that of conventional GMM-based VC, it makes it possible to produce high-quality speech while keeping flexibility of the original GMM-based VC. The experimental results demonstrate that the proposed method yields significant improvements in term of speech quality and speaker individuality in converted speech.

In this work, we propose a new statistical model for building robust dialog systems using neural networks to either retrieve or generate dialog response based on an existing data sources. In the retrieval task, we propose an approach that uses paraphrase identification during the retrieval process. This is done by employing recursive autoencoders and dynamic pooling to determine whether two sentences with arbitrary length have the same meaning. For both the generation and retrieval tasks, we propose a model using long short term memory (LSTM) neural networks that works by first using an LSTM encoder to read in the user's utterance into a continuous vector-space representation, then using an LSTM decoder to generate the most probable word sequence. An evaluation based on objective and subjective metrics shows that the new proposed approaches have the ability to deal with user inputs that are not well covered in the database compared to standard example-based dialog baselines.

The cardinality balanced multi-target multi-Bernoulli (CBMeMBer) filter has emerged as a promising tool for tracking a time-varying number of targets. However, the standard CBMeMBer filter may perform poorly when measurements are coupled with sensor biases. This paper extends the CBMeMBer filter for simultaneous target tracking and sensor biases estimation by introducing the sensor translational biases into the multi-Bernoulli distribution. In the extended CBMeMBer filter, the biases are modeled as the first order Gauss-Markov process and assumed to be uncorrelated with target states. Furthermore, the sequential Monte Carlo (SMC) method is adopted to handle the non-linearity and the non-Gaussian conditions. Simulations are carried out to examine the performance of the proposed filter.

In a wireless communication system, the base station failure can result in a communication disruption in the cell. This letter aims to propose an alternative way to cope with the base station failure in a wireless communication system, based on MIMO-OFDM. Cooperative communication can be a solution to the problem. Unlike general cooperative communication, this letter attempts to cover cooperation among adjacent base stations. This letter proposes a specific configuration of transmission signals which is applied to the CDD scheme. The proposed cooperative system can obtain multiplexing gain and diversity gain at the same time. A more reliable performance can be obtained by the proposed cooperative system which uses cooperation of adjacent base stations.

This paper introduces a novel Direct Digital Frequency Synthesizer based on Complementary Dual-Phase Latch-Based sequencing method. Compared to conventional Direct Digital Frequency Synthesizer using Flip-Flop as synchronizing element, the proposed architecture allows to double the data sampling rate while trading-off area and Power Efficiency. Digital domain modulations can be easily implemented by using a Direct Digital Frequency Synthesizer. However, due to performance limitations, CMOS-based applications have been almost exclusively restricted to VHF, UHF and L bands. This work aims to increase the operation speed and extend the applicability of this technology to Multi-band Multi-standard wireless systems operating up to 2.7 GHz. The design features a 24 bits pipelined Phase Accumulator and a 14x10 bits Phase to Amplitude Converter. The Phase to Amplitude Converter module is compressed by using Quarter Wave Symmetry technique and is entirely made up of combinational logic inserted into 12 Complementary Dual-Phase Latch-Based pipeline stages. The logic is represented in the form of Sum of Product terms obtained from a 14x10 bits sinusoidal Look-Up-Table. The proposed Direct Digital Frequency Synthesizer is designed and simulated based on 65nm CMOS standard-cell technology. A maximum data sampling rate of 6.8 GS/s is expected. Estimated Spurious Free Dynamic Range and Power Efficiency are 61 dBc and 22 mW/(GS/s) respectively.

For phase stabilization of two-tone coherent millimeter-wave/microwave carrier generation, two types of phase detection schemes were devised based on lightwave interferometric technique, the Mach-Zehnder interferometric method and the pseudo Mach-Zehnder interferometric method. The former system showed clear eye patterns at both OOK and PSK modulations of 1 Gbit/s on the 12.5-GHz carrier. The latter system demonstrated the error-free transmission at OOK modulation of 11 Gbit/s on the 100-GHz carrier.

NoSQL systems have become vital components to deliver big data services due to their high horizontal scalability. However, existing NoSQL systems rely on experienced administrators to configure and tune the wide range of configurable parameters for optimized performance. In this work, we present a configuration management framework for NoSQL systems, called xConfig. With xConfig, its users can first identify performance sensitive parameters and capture the tuned parameters for different workloads as configuration policies. Next, based on tuned policies, xConfig can be implemented as the corresponding configuration optimiaztion system for the specific NoSQL system. Also it can be used to analyze the range of configurable parameters that may impact the runtime performance of NoSQL systems. We implement a prototype called HConfig based on HBase, and the parameter tuning strategies for HConfig can generate tuned policies and enable HBase to run much more efficiently on both individual worker node and entire cluster. The massive writing oriented evaluation results show that HBase under write-intensive policies outperforms both the default configuration and some existing configurations while offering significantly higher throughput.

Technological developments in wireless communication have led to an increasing demand for radio frequencies. This has necessitated the practice of spectrum sharing to ensure optimal usage of the limited frequencies, provided this does not cause interference. This paper presents a framework for managing an unexpected situation in which a primary user experiences harmful interference with regard to database-driven secondary use of spectrum allocated to the primary user towards 5G mobile networks, where the primary user is assumed to be a radar system. In our proposed framework, the primary user informs a database that they are experiencing harmful interference. Receiving the information, the database updates a primary exclusive region in which secondary users are unable to operate in the licensed spectrum. Subsequent to the update, this primary exclusive region depends on the knowledge about the secondary users when the primary user experiences harmful interference, knowledge of which is stored in the database. We assume a circular primary exclusive region centered at a primary receiver and derive an optimal radius of the primary exclusive region by applying stochastic geometry. Then, for each type of knowledge stored in the database for the secondary user, we evaluate the optimal radius for a target probability that the primary user experiences harmful interference. The results show that the more detailed the knowledge of the secondary user's density and transmission power stored in the database, the smaller the radius that has to be determined for the primary exclusive region after the update and the more efficient the spatial reuse of the licensed spectrum that can be achieved.

In this paper, a new non-uniform weight-updating scheme for adaptive digital beamforming (DBF) is proposed. The unique feature of the letter is that the effective working range of the beamformer is extended and the computational complexity is reduced by introducing the robust DBF based on worst-case performance optimization. The robust parameter for each weight updating is chosen by analyzing the changing rate of the Direction of Arrival (DOA) of desired signal in LEO satellite communication. Simulation results demonstrate the improved performance of the new Non-Uniform Weight-Updating Beamformer (NUWUB).

In this paper, we propose a method for color error diffusion based on the Neugebauer model for color halftone printing. The Neugebauer model expresses an arbitrary color as a trilinear interpolation of basic colors. The proposed method quantizes the color of each pixel to a basic color which minimizes an accumulated quantization error, and the quantization error is diffused to the ratios of basic colors in subsequent pixels. Experimental results show that the proposed method outperforms conventional color error diffusion methods including separable method in terms of eye model-based mean squared error.

The booming developments in embedded sensor technique, wireless communication technology, and information processing theory contribute to the emergence of Internet of Things (IoT), which aims at perceiving and connecting the physical world. In recent years, a growing number of Internet-connected sensors have published their real-time state about the real-world objects on the Internet, which makes the content-based sensor search a promising service in the Internet of Things (IoT). However, classical search engines focus on searching for static or slowly varying data, rather than object-attached sensors. Besides, the existing sensor search systems fail to support the search mode based on a given measurement range. Furthermore, accessing all available sensors to find sought targets would result in tremendous communication overhead. Thus an accurate matching estimation mechanism is proposed to support the search mode based on a given search range and improve the efficiency and applicability of existing sensor search systems. A time-dependent periodical prediction method is presented to periodically estimate the sensor output, which combines with the during the period feedback prediction method that can fully exploit the verification information for enhancing the prediction precision of sensor reading to efficiently serve the needs of sensor search service. Simulation results demonstrate that our prediction methods can achieve high accuracy and our matching estimation mechanism can dramatically reduce the communication overhead of sensor search system.

In a scenario-based software development, a lot of scenarios should be described in order to clarify the whole behaviors of the target software. By reusing scenarios of similar software systems, it becomes more efficient to newly describe scenarios of the target software. A differential scenario includes the difference between sequences of events of the two scenarios and the difference between nouns in the scenarios. If the nouns of the two scenarios are commonly used in the two scenarios, we regard the two scenarios specify the same or similar system. If the sequences of the events of the two scenarios are corresponding each other, we regard behavior of the two scenarios are similar. In this paper, we derive differential information including different words and events from two scenarios. Then, we propose a method of scenario retrieval using differential information between two scenarios. This method enables to detect similar scenarios for a given scenario. The proposed retrieval method and a prototype system for creating and visualizing differential scenario will be illustrated with examples.

Quadriphase sequences with good correlation properties are required in higher order digital modulation schemes, e.g., for timing measurements, channel estimation or synchronization. In this letter, based on interleaving technique and pairs of mismatched binary sequences with perfect cross-correlation function (PCCF), two new methods for constructing quadriphase sequences with mismatched filtering which exist for even length N ≡ 2(mod4) are presented. The resultant perfect mismatched quadriphase sequences have high energy efficiencies. Compared with the existing methods, the new methods have flexible parameters and can give cyclically distinct perfect mismatched quadriphase sequences.

In the conventional cellular macrocell implementation strategy, the main base station transmits the radio signals in the omnidirectional manner in order to provide a wide range of cellular transmission to the users. In reality, however, the users move from one place to another depending on their activities, hence, sometimes this creates areas where no user exists inside the macrocell. Nevertheless, the base station continues to transmit the radio signals to all the coverage areas due to its involuntary manner, thus causing waste of energy. In our previous work, an energy efficient LTE macrocell base station scheme based on hourly user location distribution, which utilized opportunistic beamforming, was proposed in order to provide the cellular transmission only to the area where the user density is high. The drawback of this scheme was that there were many users who cannot receive the cellular transmission because of the limitation of the beamforming shape. In this paper, to overcome this difficulty, a new energy efficient macrocell strategy will be proposed. Here, additional low power consumption femtocell access points are deployed inside the macrocell to support the energy efficient opportunistic beamforming based on the hourly user location distribution. Concretely, the femtocell access points are woken up only when the active calling users exist inside its range. The proposed new strategy will be evaluated in terms of the hourly successful calling user ratio, the total power consumption and the hourly average downlink throughput compared with the previously proposed beamforming transmission strategy and the conventional omnidirectional transmission. The results will show the effectiveness of the proposed strategy in providing an energy efficient cellular macrocell system with high quality cellular services.

We reported a secure scan design approach using shift register equivalents (SR-equivalents, for short) that are functionally equivalent but not structurally equivalent to shift registers [10 and also introduced generalized shift registers (GSRs, for short) to apply them to secure scan design [11]-[13]. In this paper, we combine both concepts of SR-equivalents and GSRs and consider the synthesis problem of SR-equivalent GSRs, i.e., how to modify a given GSR to an SR-equivalent GSR. We also consider the enumeration problem of SR-equivalent GFSRs, i.e., the cardinality of the class of SR-equivalent GSRs to clarify the security level of the secure scan architecture.

Location-based services (LBSs) are useful for many applications in internet of things(IoT). However, LBSs has raised serious concerns about users' location privacy. In this paper, we propose a new location privacy attack in LBSs called hidden location inference attack, in which the adversary infers users' hidden locations based on the users' check-in histories. We discover three factors that influence individual check-in behaviors: geographic information, human mobility patterns and user preferences. We first separately evaluate the effects of each of these three factors on users' check-in behaviors. Next, we propose a novel algorithm that integrates the above heterogeneous factors and captures the probability of hidden location privacy leakage. Then, we design a novel privacy alert framework to warn users when their sharing behavior does not match their sharing rules. Finally, we use our experimental results to demonstrate the validity and practicality of the proposed strategy.

In this paper, we propose a multi-cell structure backscatter based wireless-powered communication network (WPCN) where a number of backscatter cells are locally separated, each containing a subset of users around a carrier emitter. The multi-cell structure backscatter based WPCN can be implemented in two ways, namely time-division multiplexing (TDM) and frequency-division multiplexing (FDM). Here users harvest energy from the carrier signal transmitted by the carrier emitter, and then transmit their own information in a passive way via the reflection of the carrier signal using frequency-shift keying modulation. We characterize the energy-free condition and the signal-to-noise ratio (SNR) outage zone in a backscatter based WPCN. Also, a backscatter based harvest-then-transmit protocol is adopted to maximize the sum-throughput of all users by optimally allocating time for energy harvesting and information transmission. Numerical results demonstrate that the backscatter based WPCN ensures an increased long-range coverage and a diminished SNR outage zone compared to conventional radio based WPCNs. Also, comparing the two types of multi-cell structure backscatter based WPCN, TDM within each backscatter cell and FDM across backscatter cells versus FDM within each backscatter cell and TDM across backscatter cells, numerical results confirm that which one yields a better performance.

Side channel attacks (SCAs) on security devices have become a major concern for system security. Existing SCA countermeasures are costly in terms of area and power consumption. This paper presents a novel differential power analysis (DPA) countermeasure referred to as short-time three-phase single-rail precharge logic (STSPL). The proposed logic is based on a single-rail three-phase operation scheme providing effective DPA-resistance with low cost. In the scheme, a controller is inserted to discharge logic gates by reusing evaluation paths to achieve more balanced power consumption. This reduces the latency between different phases, increasing the difficult of the adversary to conduct DPA, compared with the state-of-the-art DPA-resistance logics. To verify the chip's power consumption in practice, a 4-bit ripple carry adder and a 4-bit inverter of AES-SBOX were implemented. The testing and simulation results of DPA attacks prove the security and efficiency of the proposed logic.
