Mobility management is very important in mobile cellular networks, since to connect incoming calls, the network must maintain the locations of the mobiles. This study considers the zone-based registration methods that most mobile cellular networks have adopted. We focus on two special zone-based registration methods, called two-zone registration (2Z), and two-zone registration with implicit registration by outgoing calls (2Zi). Although some mathematical models for their performances have been presented, they still cannot accurately estimate 2Zi performance. We provide a new and simple mathematical model based on Markov chain theory that can accurately analyze the performances of 2Z and 2Zi. We also explain the propositions underlying the explicit expressions adopted by our model. We finally present various numerical results, to compare the performance of 2Zi with those of 2Z and one-zone registration (1Z), and show that in every case, 2Zi is superior to 2Z, and in most practical cases, to 1Z.

We present dynamic mode switching characteristic by using a 2 × 2 optical mode switch based on silicon waveguide. The configuration of optical mode switch is similar to MZI where the width of input and output ports are designed to permit the combining of the fundamental mode and the first order mode. We designed the symmetrical arms with phase shifter based on p-i-n structure in one arm to generate a π-phase difference between each arm. As a result, mode switching with the injection current of 60mA (5.7V) was successfully achieved with the mode crosstalk of -10dB at λ=1550nm. A minimum of less than 60ns and 40ns mode switching time for the fundamental mode to first order mode and first order mode to fundamental mode, was achieved respectively in this time.

We propose a novel structure that can reduce the power consumption and extend the transmission distance of an electro-absorption modulator integrated with a DFB (EADFB) laser. To overcome the trade-off relationship of the optical loss and chirp parameter of the EA modulator, we integrate a semiconductor optical amplifier (SOA) with an EADFB laser. With the proposed SOA assisted extended reach EADFB laser (AXEL) structure, the LD and SOA sections are operated by an electrically connected input port. We describe a design for AXEL that optimizes the LD and SOA length ratio when their total operation current is 80mA. By using the designed AXEL, the power consumption of a 10-Gbit/s, 1.55-µm EADFB laser is reduced by 1/2 and at the same time the transmission distance is extended from 80 to 100km.

In order to meet various requirements for the 5th generation mobile communication, a high SHF wideband massive-MIMO system has been widely studied which offers wide system bandwidth and high spectral efficiency. A hybrid beamforming configuration which combines analog beamforming by APAA (Active Phased Array Antenna) and digital MIMO signal processing is one of the promising approaches for reducing the complexity and power consumption of the high SHF wideband massive-MIMO system. In order to realize the hybrid beamforming configuration in high SHF band, small size, low power consumption and precise beam forming over the wide-band frequency range are strongly required for RF frontend which constitutes analog beam former. In this paper, a compact RF frontend module for high SHF wideband 5G small cell base station is proposed. This RF frontend module is prototyped. Various key components of the RF frontend module are fabricated in 15GHz band, and measured results show that high RF performances are able to meet the requirements of RF frontend.

A 15GHz-band 4-channel transmit/receive RF core-chip is presented for high SHF wide-band massive MIMO in 5G. In order to realize small RF frontend for 5G base stations, both 6bit phase shifters (PS) and 0.25 dB resolution variable gain amplifiers (VGA) are integrated in TX and RX paths of 4-channels on the chip. A PS calibration technique is applied to compensate the error of 6bit PS caused by process variations. A common gate current steering topology with tail current control is used for VGA to enhance the gain control accuracy. The 15GHz-band RF core-chip fabricated in 65 nm CMOS process achieved phase control error of 1.9deg. rms., and amplitude control error of 0.23 dB. rms.

The analysis and design of a full 360 degrees hybrid coupler phase shifter with integrated distributed elements low pass filters is presented. Pi-section filter is incorporated into hybrid coupler phase shifter for harmonic suppression. The physical size of the proposed structure is close to that of the conventional hybrid coupler phase shifter. The maximum phase shift range is bounded by the port impedance ratio of the hybrid coupler phase shifter. Furthermore, the phase shift range is reduced if series inductance in the reflective load deviates from the optimum value. Numerical and parametric analyses are used to find the equivalent circuit of the pi-section filter for consistent relative phase shift. To validate our analysis, the proposed phase shifter operates at 8.6GHz was fabricated and measured. Over the frequency range of interest, the fabricated phase shifter suppresses second harmonic and achieves analog phase shift of 0 to 360 degrees at the passband, agreeing with the theoretical and simulation results.

We developed a 5.8 GHz power-variable phase-controlled magnetron (PVPCM) which controls the phase of magnetron output by a phase shifter and controls the power by the anode current of the magnetron. This method is different from the previous 2.45 GHz phase-controlled magnetron which utilizes an injection method and a phase locked loop by the anode current, since the frequency of 5.8 GHz magnetron hardly changes with the anode current. Our experiments show that the developed 5.8 GHz PVPCM had a variable output power with 1% power stability from 160 W to 329 W, the phase accuracy was nearly ±1°, and the response time was less than 100 µs. Stable output power, high phase-controlled accuracy, and fast response speed microwave sources based on the PVPCMs are suitable for phased array system for wireless power transfer.

Smart card payment systems provide a convenient billing mechanism for public transportation providers and passengers. In this paper, a smart card-based transit log is used to reveal functionally related regions in a city, which are called zones. To discover significant zones based on the transit log data, two algorithms, minimum spanning trees and agglomerative hierarchical clustering, are extended by considering the additional factors of geographical distance and adjacency. The hierarchical spatial geocoding system, called Geohash, is adopted to merge nearby bus stops to a region before zone discovery. We identify different urban zones that contain functionally interrelated regions based on passenger trip data stored in the smart card-based transit log by manipulating the level of abstraction and the adjustment parameters.

Beamforming technology is an effective method to build a robust link. The commonly used digital beamforming is an expensive and power consuming approach to realizing millimeter-wave transmission. This makes radio frequency(RF) beamforming, which has low cost and low power consumption due to its use of phase shifters the more feasible approach to creating stable links in the millimeter-wave band. Unfortunately, the performance of RF processing is degraded by the limited precision of digital phase shifters. In this paper, we analyze the gain loss caused by the limited precision of phase shifter in millimeter wave single stream beam steering. We deduce a theoretical relationship between the array gain loss and variance of phase error. The theoretical results are validated by the Monte Carlo simulations, which indicate that gain loss could be reduced by the increased precision of phase shifter. In practical applications, 4-bit phase shifters provide sufficient accuracy for single stream beam steering.

This paper aims to propose a Fallback Control System isolated from cyber-attacks against networked control systems. The fallback control system implements maintaining functionality after an incident. Since cyber-attacks tamper with the communication contents of the networked control systems, the fallback control system is installed in a control target side. The fallback control system detects the incident without the communication contents on field network. This system detects an incident based on a bilinear observer and a switched Lyapunov function. When an incident is detected, normal operation is switched to fallback operation automatically. In this paper, a practical experiment with Ball-Sorter simulating a simple defective discriminator as a part of Factory Automation systems is shown. Assumed cyber-attacks against Ball-Sorter are Man In The Middle attack and Denial of Service attack.

Ciphertext-Policy Attribute-Based Encryption (CP-ABE) is suitable for data access control on cloud storage systems. In ABE, to revoke users' attributes, it is necessary to make them unable to decrypt ciphertexts. Some CP-ABE schemes for efficient attribute revocation have been proposed. However, they have not been given a formal security proof against a revoked user, that is, whether they satisfy forward secrecy has not been shown or they just do not achieve fine-grained access control of shared data. We propose an attribute revocable attribute-based encryption with the forward secrecy for fine-grained access control of shared data. The proposed scheme can use both “AND” and “OR” policy and is IND-CPA secure under the Decisional Parallel Bilinear Diffie-Hellman Exponent assumption in the standard model.

A novel generalized side-information cancellation (GSIC) precoder is proposed for multiuser multi-input multi-output (MIMO) downlink systems with channel state information at the transmitter. The proposed transceiver involves the following stages. First, a minimum mean square error (MMSE) based channel inversion (MMSE-CI) technique is utilized to suppress multiuser broadcast interference. By using a GSIC technique, it can further reduce the residual multiuser interference and the noise induced by MMSE-CI preprocessing. Next, with a singular value decomposition method, the spatial stream interference of each user is suppressed by the pre-processing and post-processing eigenvector matrices. Finally, the proposed precoder can be extended to joint water filling and diagonal loading methods for performance enhancement. For the correlated MIMO channels, signal subspace and antenna selection methods, incorporating the proposed GSIC precoder, are further designed to maximize the sum rate performance. Simulation results show that the proposed GSIC precoder outperforms the conventional precoders. Besides, simulation results confirm that the proposed GSIC precoder with water filling, diagonal loading, and signal subspace techniques exhibits excellent performance.

With the increasing demand of Internet-of-Things applicability in various devices and location-based services (LBSs) with positioning capabilities, we proposed simple and effective post-processing techniques to reduce positioning error and provide more precise navigation to users in a pedestrian environment in this letter. The proposed positioning error reduction techniques (Technique 1-minimum range securement and bounce elimination, Technique 2-direction vector-based error correction) were studied considering low complexity and wide applicability to various types of positioning systems, e.g., global positioning system (GPS). Through the real field tests in urban areas, we have verified that an average positioning error of the proposed techniques is significantly decreased compared to that of a GPS-only environment.

A novel element is proposed for manipulating two orthogonally-polarized electromagnetic waves, resulting in a polarization-reconfigurable flat transmitarray. This element consists of four identical metallic patterns, including a square frame loaded with short stubs and an internal crossed dipole, which are printed on the two sides of three identical flat dielectric slabs, with no air gap among them. With a linearly-polarized (LP) feeder, the flat transmitarray can transform the LP incident wave into a circular, horizontal or vertical polarization wave in a convenient way. By rotating the LP feeder so that the polarization angle is 0°, 45°, 90° or 135°, the waves of linear horizontal, right-handed circular, linear vertical or left-handed circular polarization can be obtained alternately. Simulations and experiments are conducted to validate the performance. The measured axial ratio bandwidths for RHCP and LHCP transmitarrays are about 7.1% and 5.1%, respectively, the 3dB gain bandwidths are 16.19% and 22.4%, and the peak gains are 25.56dBi and 24.2dBi, respectively.

Protecting critical files in operating system is very important to system security. With the increasing adoption of Virtual Machine Introspection (VMI), designing VMI-based monitoring tools become a preferential choice with promising features, such as isolation, stealthiness and quick recovery from crash. However, these tools inevitably introduce high overhead due to their operation-based characteristic. Specifically, they need to intercept some file operations to monitor critical files once the operations are executed, regardless of whether the files are critical or not. It is known that file operation is high-frequency, so operation-based methods often result in performance degradation seriously. Thus, in this paper we present CFWatcher, a target-based real-time monitoring solution to protect critical files by leveraging VMI techniques. As a target-based scheme, CFWatcher constraints the monitoring into the operations that are accessing target files defined by users. Consequently, the overhead depends on the frequency of target files being accessed instead of the whole filesystem, which dramatically reduces the overhead. To validate our solution, a prototype system is built on Xen with full virtualization, which not only is able to monitor both Linux and Windows virtual machines, but also can take actions to prevent unauthorized access according to predefined policies. Through extensive evaluations, the experimental results demonstrate that the overhead introduced by CFWatcher is acceptable. Especially, the overhead is very low in the case of a few target files.

Internet of Things (IoT) has been widely applied in various fields. IoT data can also be put to cloud, but there are still concerns regarding security and privacy. Ciphertext-Policy Attribute-Based Encryption (CP-ABE) is attracted attention in cloud storage as a suitable encryption scheme for confidential data share and transmission. In CP-ABE, the secret key of a user is associated with a set of attributes; when attributes satisfy the access structure, the ciphertext is able to be decrypted. It is necessary that multiple authorities issue and manage secret keys independently. Authorities that generate the secret key can be regarded as managing the attributes of a user in CP-ABE. CP-ABE schemes that have multiple authorities have been proposed. The other hand, it should consider that a user's operation at the terminals is not necessary when a user drop an attribute and key is updated and the design of the communication system is a simple. In this paper, we propose CP-ABE scheme that have multiple key authorities and can revoke attribute immediately with no updating user's secret key for attribute revocation. In addition, the length of ciphertext is fixed. The proposed scheme is IND-CPA secure in DBDH assumption under the standard model. We compare the proposed scheme and the other CP-ABE schemes and show that the proposed scheme is more suitable for cloud storage.
