This paper proposes a block-permutation-based encryption (BPBE) scheme for the encryption-then-compression (ETC) system that enhances the color scrambling. A BPBE image can be obtained through four processes, positional scrambling, block rotation/flip, negative-positive transformation, and color component shuffling, after dividing the original image into multiple blocks. The proposed scheme scrambles the R, G, and B components independently in positional scrambling, block rotation/flip, and negative-positive transformation, by assigning different keys to each color component. The conventional scheme considers the compression efficiency using JPEG and JPEG 2000, which need a color conversion before the compression process by default. Therefore, the conventional scheme scrambles the color components identically in each process. In contrast, the proposed scheme takes into account the RGB-based compression, such as JPEG-LS, and thus can increase the extent of the scrambling. The resilience against jigsaw puzzle solver (JPS) can consequently be increased owing to the wider color distribution of the BPBE image. Additionally, the key space for resilience against brute-force attacks has also been expanded exponentially. Furthermore, the proposed scheme can maintain the JPEG-LS compression efficiency compared to the conventional scheme. We confirm the effectiveness of the proposed scheme by experiments and analyses.
A parallel phrase matching (PM) engine for dictionary compression is presented. Hardware based parallel chaining hash can eliminate erroneous PM results raised by hash collision; while newly-designed storage architecture holding PM results solved the data dependency issue; Thus, the average compression speed is increased by 53%.

Learning semantic representation for translation context is beneficial to statistical machine translation (SMT). Previous efforts have focused on implicitly encoding syntactic and semantic knowledge in translation context by neural networks, which are weak in capturing explicit structural syntax information. In this paper, we propose a new neural network with a tree-based convolutional architecture to explicitly learn structural syntax information in translation context, thus improving translation prediction. Specifically, we first convert parallel sentences with source parse trees into syntax-based linear sequences based on a minimum syntax subtree algorithm, and then define a tree-based convolutional network over the linear sequences to learn syntax-based context representation and translation prediction jointly. To verify the effectiveness, the proposed model is integrated into phrase-based SMT. Experiments on large-scale Chinese-to-English and German-to-English translation tasks show that the proposed approach can achieve a substantial and significant improvement over several baseline systems.

The modified coherence-based algorithm and the first-order differential beamforming are combined to filter the spatial distributed noise. The experimental results reveal that the proposed algorithm achieves significant performance in spatial filtering under different noise scenarios.

A phase locking value (PLV) in electrocorticography is an essential indicator for analysis of cognitive activities and detection of severe diseases such as seizure of epilepsy. The PLV computation requires a simultaneous pursuit of high-throughput and low-cost implementation in hardware acceleration. The PLV computation consists of bandpass filtering, Hilbert transform, and mean phase coherence (MPC) calculation. The MPC calculation includes trigonometric functions and divisions, and these calculations require a lot of computational amounts. This paper proposes an MPC calculation method that removes high-cost operations from the original MPC with mathematically identical derivations while the conventional methods sacrifice either computational accuracy or throughput. This paper also proposes a hardware implementation of MPC calculator whose latency is 21 cycles and pipeline interval is five cycles. Compared with the conventional implementation with the same standard cell library, the proposed implementation marks 2.8 times better hardware implementation efficiency that is defined as throughput per gate counts.
For an odd prime p and a positive integer k ≥ 2, we propose and analyze construction of perfect pk-ary sequences of period pk based on cubic polynomials over the integers modulo pk. The constructed perfect polyphase sequences from cubic polynomials is a subclass of the perfect polyphase sequences from the Mow's unified construction. And then, we give a general approach for constructing optimal families of perfect polyphase sequences with some properties of perfect polyphase sequences and their optimal families. By using this, we construct new optimal families of pk-ary perfect polyphase sequences of period pk. The constructed optimal families of perfect polyphase sequences are of size p-1.

In-network guidance to off-path cache, Breadcrumbs, has been proposed for cache network. It guides content requests to off-path cached contents by using the latest content download direction pointer, breadcrumbs. In Breadcrumbs, breadcrumb pointer is overwritten when a new content download of the corresponding content passes through a router. There is a possibility that slightly old guidance information for popular contents might lead to better cached content than the latest one. In this paper, we propose a new in-network guidance, Multiple-Breadcrumbs, which holds old breadcrumbs even with the latest breadcrumb pointer generated with a new content download. We focus on its content search capability and propose Throughput Sensitive selection that selects the content source giving the best estimated throughput. Our performance evaluation gives interesting results that our proposed Multiple Breadcrumbs with Throughput Sensitive selection improves not only throughput for popular contents but also for unpopular contents.

This paper describes a broadband low phase noise VCO implemented in 0.13 µm CMOS process. A 1-bit switched varactor and a 4-bit capacitor array are adopted in cooperation with the automatic frequency calibration (AFC) circuit to lower the VCO tuning gain (KVCO), with a measured AFC time of 6 µs. Several noise reduction techniques are exploited to minimize the phase noise of the VCO. Measurement results show the VCO generates a high frequency range from 11.37 GHz to 14.8 GHz with a KVCO of less than 270 MHz/V. The prototype exhibits a phase noise of -114.6 dBc/Hz @ 1 MHz at 14.67 GHz carrier frequency and draws 10.5 mA current from a 1.2 V supply. The achieved figure-of-merits (FoM=-186.9dBc/Hz, FoMT=-195.3dBc/Hz) favorably compares with the state-of-the-art.

In this paper we present proofs for the new biases in RC4 which were experimentally found and listed out (without theoretical justifications and proofs) in a paper by Vanhoef et al. in USENIX 2015. Their purpose was to exploit the vulnerabilities of RC4 in TLS using the set of new biases found by them. We also show (and prove) new results on couple of very strong biases residing in the joint distribution of three consecutive output bytes of the RC4 stream cipher. These biases provides completely new distinguisher for RC4 taking roughly O(224) samples to distinguish streams of RC4 from a uniformly random stream. We also provide a list of new results with proofs relating to some conditional biases in the keystreams of the RC4 stream cipher.

We propose the cube-based perceptual encryption (C-PE), which consists of cube scrambling, cube rotation, cube negative/positive transformation, and cube color component shuffling, and describe its application to the encryption-then-compression (ETC) system of Motion JPEG (MJPEG). Especially, cube rotation replaces the blocks in the original frames with ones in not only the other frames but also the depth-wise cube sides (spatiotemporal sides) unlike conventional block-based perceptual encryption (B-PE). Since it makes intra-block observation more difficult and prevents unauthorized decryption from only a single frame, it is more robust than B-PE against attack methods without any decryption key. However, because the encrypted frames including the blocks from the spatiotemporal sides affect the MJPEG compression performance slightly, we also devise a version of C-PE with no spatiotemporal sides (NSS-C-PE) that hardly affects compression performance. C-PE makes the encrypted video sequence robust against the only single frame-based algorithmic brute force (ABF) attack with only 21 cubes. The experimental results show the compression efficiency and encryption robustness of the C-PE/NSS-C-PE-based ETC system. C-PE-based ETC system shows mixed results depending on videos, whereas NSS-C-PE-based ETC system shows that the BD-PSNR can be suppressed to about -0.03dB not depending on videos.

This paper proposes gain relaxation in signal enhancement designed for speech recognition. Gain relaxation selectively applies softer enhancement of a target signal to eliminate potential degradation in speech recognition caused by small undesirable distortion in the target signal components. The softer enhancement is a solution to overlooked performance degradation in signal enhancement combined with speech recognition which is encountered in commercial products with an unaware small local noise source. Evaluation of directional interference suppression with signals recorded by a commercial PC (personal computer) demonstrates that signal enhancement over the input is achieved without sacrificing the performance for clean speech.

Data breach and data destruction attack have become the critical security threats for the ICT (Information and Communication Technology) infrastructure. Both the Internet service providers and users are suffering from the cyber threats especially those to confidential data and private information. The requirements of human social activities make people move carrying confidential data and data breach always happens during the transportation. The Internet connectivity and cryptographic technology have made the usage of confidential data much secure. However, even with the high deployment rate of the Internet infrastructure, the concerns for lack of the Internet connectivity make people carry data with their mobile devices. In this paper, we describe the main patterns of data breach occur on mobile devices and propose a secure in-depth file system concealed by GPS-based mounting authentication to mitigate data breach on mobile devices. In the proposed in-depth file system, data can be stored based on the level of credential with corresponding authentication policy and the mounting operation will be only successful on designated locations. We implemented a prototype system using Veracrypt and Perl language and confirmed that the in-depth file system worked exactly as we expected by evaluations on two locations. The contribution of this paper includes the clarification that GPS-based mounting authentication for a file system can reduce the risk of data breach for mobile devices and a realization of prototype system.

This paper proposes a directional noise suppressor with a specified constant beamwidth for directional interferences and diffuse noise. A directional gain is calculated based on interchannel phase difference and combined with a spectral gain commonly used in single-channel noise suppressors. The beamwidth can be specified as passband edges of the directional gain. In order to implement frequency-independent constant beamwidth, frequency-proportionate directional gains are defined for different frequencies as a constraint. Evaluation with signals recorded by a commercial PC demonstrates good agreement between the theoretical and the measured directivity. The signal-to-noise ratio improvement and the PESQ score for the enhanced signal are improved by 24.4dB and 0.3 over a conventional noise suppressor. In a speech recognition scenario, the proposed directional noise suppressor outperforms both the conventional nondirectional noise suppressor and the conventional directional noise suppressor based on phase based T/F filtering with a negligible degradation in the word error rate for clean speech.

This paper describes a novel composite right-/left-handed (CRLH) transmission line (TL) stub resonator for X-band low phase-noise oscillator application. The bandpass filter type resonator composed only of microstrip components exhibits unloaded-Q exceeding that of microstrip-line resonators by engineering the dispersion relation for the CRLH TL. Two different types of stub resonator using identical and non-identical unit-cells are compared. Although the latter type was found to be superior to the former in terms of spurious frequency responses and the circuit size, care was taken to prevent the parasitic inductances distributed in the interdigital capacitors from impeding the Q-factor control capability of the resonator. The stub resonator thus optimized was applied to an 8.8-GHz SiGe HBT oscillator, which achieved a phase-noise of -134dBc/Hz at 1-MHz offset despite the modest dielectric loss tangent of the PCB laminate used as the substrate of the circuit.

Huge amounts of software appear nowadays. The more the number of software increases, the more increased software vulnerabilities are. Although some automatic methods have been proposed in order to detect and remove software vulnerabilities, they still require a lot of time so they have a limitation in the real world. To solve this problem, we propose BugHunter which automatically tests a binary file compiled with a C++ compiler. It searches for unsafe API calls and automatically executes to the program block that have an unsafe API call. Also, we showed that BugHunter is more efficient than angr through experiments. As a result, BugHunter is very helpful to find a software vulnerability in a short time.

The authors have proposed a new type of flexible and printable 12GHz-band phase shifter using polymer actuator for the first time. Polymer bending actuator was used as a termination device of a reflection-type 3-dB, 90° hybrid coupler as the phase-shift control unit which controls the electrical length of the waveguide for microwave signals by the applied bias voltage. The microstrip line circuit of the device has been fabricated using low-cost screen printing method. Polymer bending actuator having three-layer stacking structure, in which an ionic liquid electrolyte layer is sandwiched with two conductive network composite layers, was formed by wet processes. The authors have confirmed that the phase shift could be controlled in analog by low driving voltages of 2-7 V for the actuator with a insertion loss of 2.73 dB. This phase shifter can be integrated with flexible patch antenna and the current flexible polymer electronics devices such as transistors.

A wind-noise suppressor with SNR based wind-noise detection and speech-wind discrimination is proposed. Wind-noise detection is performed in each frame and frequency based on the power ratio of the noisy speech and an estimated stationary noise. The detection result is modified by speech presence likelihood representing spectral smoothness to eliminate speech components. To suppress wind noise with little speech distortion, spectral gains are made smaller in the frame and the frequency where wind-noise is detected. Subjective evaluation results show that the 5-grade MOS for the proposed wind-noise suppressor reaches 3.4 and is 0.56 higher than that by a conventional noise suppressor with a statistically significant difference.
