Rotation symmetric Boolean functions (RSBFs) that are invariant under circular translation of indices have been used as components of different cryptosystems. In this paper, odd-variable balanced RSBFs with maximum algebraic immunity (AI) are investigated. We provide a construction of n-variable (n=2k+1 odd and n ≥ 13) RSBFs with maximum AI and nonlinearity ≥ 2n-1-¥binom{n-1}{k}+2k+2k-2-k, which have nonlinearities significantly higher than the previous nonlinearity of RSBFs with maximum AI.

In this study, we propose a simple, yet general and powerful framework of integrating multiple global and local features by Product Sparse Coding (PSC) for image retrieval. In our framework, multiple global and local features are extracted from images and then are transformed to Trimmed-Root (TR)-features. After that, the features are encoded into compact codes by PSC. Finally, a two-stage ranking strategy is proposed for indexing in retrieval. We make three major contributions in this study. First, we propose TR representation of multiple image features and show that the TR representation offers better performance than the original features. Second, the integrated features by PSC is very compact and effective with lower complexity than by the standard sparse coding. Finally, the two-stage ranking strategy can balance the efficiency and memory usage in storage. Experiments demonstrate that our compact image representation is superior to the state-of-the-art alternatives for large-scale image retrieval.

To investigate electrostatic discharge (ESD) immunity testing for wearable electronic devices, the worst scenario i.e., an ESD event occurs when the body-mounted device approaches a grounded conductor is focused in this paper. Discharge currents caused by air discharges from a charged human through a hand-held metal bar or through a semi-sphere metal attached to the head, arm or waist in lieu of actual wearable devices are measured. As a result, it is found that at a human charge voltage of 1kV, the peak current from the semi-sphere metal is large in order of the attachment of the waist (15.4A), arm (12.8A) and head (12.2A), whereas the peak current (10.0A) from the hand-held metal bar is the smallest. It is also found that the discharge currents through the semi-sphere metals decrease to zero at around 50ns regardless of the attachment positions, although the current through the hand-held metal bar continues to flow at over 90ns. These discharge currents are further characterized by the discharge resistance, the charge storage capacitance and the discharge time constant newly derived from the waveform energy, which are validated from the body impedance measured through the hand-held and body-mounted metals. The above finding suggests that ESD immunity test methods for wearable devices require test specifications entirely different from the conventional ESD immunity testing.

We conduct, in accordance with IEC 61000-4-2, an electrostatic discharge (ESD) test for a small size battery-operated control circuit board in a myoelectric artificial hand system to investigate the influence of the induced noises by indirect ESDs from an ESD generator to a horizontal coupling plane (HCP) and a vertical coupling plane (VCP). A photo-coupler is set between the small size control board and a motor control circuit to suppress noise in the pulse width modulation (PWM) signals. Two types of ESD noise are observed at the output pins of PWM signals. One type is the ESD noise itself (called Type A) and the other one is the ESD noise superimposed over the PWM pulses (Type B). No matter which polarity the charge voltages of the ESD generator have, both types can be observed and the Type A is dominant in the output pulses. Moreover, the ESD interference in the HCP case is found to be stronger than that in the VCP case usually. In the PWM signals observed at the photo-coupler output, on the other hand, Type A noises tend to increase for positive polarity and decrease for negative polarity, while Type B noises tend to increase at -8kV test level in the HCP case. These results suggest that the photo-coupler does not work well for ESD noise suppression. One of the reasons has been demonstrated to be due to the driving capability of the photo-coupler, and other one is due to the presence of a parasitic capacitance between the input and output of the photo-coupler. The parasitic capacitance can yield a capacitive coupling so that high-frequency ESD noises pass through the photo-coupler.

In this work, a computationally-efficient modeling approach is developed to predict the electromagnetic noise induced in the terminal units of random bundles of twisted-wire pairs mounted onboard spacecraft. The proposed model combines the results of a preliminary fullwave simulation, aimed at evaluating the electromagnetic field inside the space vehicle's metallic body, with a stochastic model of a random bundle, based on multiconductor transmission line (MTL) theory. Model assessment versus measurement data obtained characterizing real wiring harness in a full-scale satellite mock-up demonstrates the large sensitivity (up to 40 decibels) of the induced noise levels to different bundle configurations, and corroborates the effectiveness of the proposed simplified modeling strategy for estimating the modal noise voltages induced in the terminal units.

Time redundancy is sometimes an only option for enhancing circuit reliability when the circuit area is severely restricted. In this paper, a time-redundant error-correction scheme, which is particularly suitable for coarse-grained reconfigurable arrays (CGRAs), is proposed. It judges the correctness of the executions by comparing the results of two identical runs. Once a mismatch is found, the second run is terminated immediately to start the third run, under the assumption that the errors tend to persist in many applications, for selecting the correct result in the three runs. The circuit area and reliability of the proposed method is compared with a straightforward implementation of time-redundancy and a selective triple modular redundancy (TMR). A case study on a CGRA revealed that the area of the proposed method is 1% larger than that of the implementation for the selective TMR. The study also shows the proposed scheme is up to 2.6x more reliable than the full-TMR when the persistent error is predominant.

The global avalanche characteristics measure the overall avalanche properties of Boolean functions, an n-variable balanced Boolean function of the sum-of-square indicator reaching σƒ=22n+2n+3 is an open problem. In this paper, we prove that there does not exist a balanced Boolean function with σƒ=22n+2n+3 for n≥4, if the hamming weight of one decomposition function belongs to the interval Q*. Some upper bounds on the order of propagation criterion of balanced Boolean functions with n (3≤n≤100) variables are given, if the number of vectors of propagation criterion is equal and less than 7·2n-3-1. Two lower bounds on the sum-of-square indicator for balanced Boolean functions with optimal autocorrelation distribution are obtained. Furthermore, the relationship between the sum-of-squares indicator and nonlinearity of balanced Boolean functions is deduced, the new nonlinearity improves the previously known nonlinearity.

The emergence of nature-inspired algorithms (NIA) is a great milestone in the field of computational intelligence community. As one of the NIAs, the artificial immune algorithm (AIS) mimics the principles of the biological immune system, and has exhibited its effectiveness, implicit parallelism, flexibility and applicability when solving various engineering problems. Nevertheless, AIS still suffers from the issues of evolution premature, local minima trapping and slow convergence due to its inherent stochastic search dynamics. Much effort has been made to improve the search performance of AIS from different aspects, such as population diversity maintenance, adaptive parameter control, etc. In this paper, we propose a novel multi-learning operator into the AIS to further enrich the search dynamics of the algorithm. A framework of embedding multiple commonly used mutation operators into the antibody evolution procedure is also established. Four distinct learning operators including baldwinian learning, cauchy mutation, gaussian mutation and lateral mutation are selected to merge together as a multi-learning operator. It can be expected that the multi-learning operator can effectively balance the exploration and exploitation of the search by enriched dynamics. To verify its performance, the proposed algorithm, which is called multi-learning immune algorithm (MLIA), is applied on a number of benchmark functions. Experimental results demonstrate the superiority of the proposed algorithm in terms of convergence speed and solution quality.

Although many companies have developed robots that assist humans in the activities of daily living, safety requirements and test methods for such robots have not been established. Given the risk associated with a robot malfunctioning in the human living space, from the viewpoints of safety and EMC, it is necessary that the robot does not create a hazardous situation even when exposed to possibly severe electromagnetic disturbances in the operating environment. Thus, in immunity tests for personal care robots, the safety functions should be more rigorously tested than the other functions, and be repeatedly activated in order to ascertain that the safety functions are not lost in the presence of electromagnetic disturbances. In this paper, immunity test procedures for personal care robots are proposed that take into account functional safety requirements. A variety of test apparatuses are presented, which were built for activating the safety functions of robots, and detecting whether they were in a safe state. The practicality of the developed immunity test system is demonstrated using actual robots.

In this work, a measurement-based procedure aimed at deriving a behavioral model of Bulk Current Injection (BCI) probes clamped onto multi-wire cable bundles is proposed. The procedure utilizes the measurement data obtained by mounting the probe onto the calibration jig for model-parameters extraction, and 2D electromagnetic simulations to adapt such parameters to the specific characteristics of the cable bundle under analysis. Outcome of the analysis is a behavioral model which can be easily implemented into the SPICE environment. Without loss of generality, the proposed model is here used to predict the radio-frequency noise stressing the terminal units of a two-wire harness. Model accuracy in predicting the common and differential mode voltages induced by BCI at the line terminals is assessed by EM modeling and simulation of the involved injection setup by the commercial software CST Microwave Studio.

With the technology scaling down, leakage power becomes an important part of total power consumption. The relatively large leakage current weakens the energy recovery capability of adiabatic circuits and reduces its superiority, compared with static CMOS circuits in the field of low-power design. In this paper, we rebuild three types of adiabatic circuits (2N2N2P, IPAL and DCPAL) based on FinFET devices to obtain a large leakage power reduction by rationally utilizing the different operating modes of FinFET devices (SG, LP, and IG). A 16-bit adiabatic adder has been investigated to demonstrate the advantages of FinFET adiabatic circuits. The Predictive Technology Model (PTM) is used for 32-nm bulk MOSFET and FinFET devices and all of the simulations are based on HSPICE. The results evince the proposed FinFET adiabatic circuits have a considerable reduction (more than 60% for SG mode FinFET and more than 80% for LP mode FinFET) of power consumption compared with the bulk MOSFET ones. Furthermore, the FinFET adiabatic circuits also have higher limiting frequency of clock source and better noise immunity.

In this letter, a property of the characteristic matrix of the Rotation Symmetric Boolean Functions (RSBFs) is characterized, and a sufficient and necessary condition for RSBFs being 1st correlation-immune (1-CI for simplicity) is obtained. This property is applied to construct resilient RSBFs of order 1 (1-resilient for simplicity) on pq variables, where p and q are both prime consistently in this letter. The results show that construction and counting of 1-resilient RSBFs on pq variables are equivalent to solving an equation system and counting the solutions. At last, the counting of all 1-resilient RSBFs on pq variables is also proposed.

Communication-induced checkpointing (CIC) has two main advantages: first, it allows processes in a distributed computation to take asynchronous checkpoints, and secondly, it avoids the domino effect. To achieve these, CIC algorithms piggyback information on the application messages and take forced local checkpoints when they recognize potentially dangerous patterns. The main disadvantages of CIC algorithms are the amount of overhead per message and the induced storage overhead. In this paper we present a communication-induced checkpointing algorithm called Scalable Fully-Informed (S-FI) that attacks the problem of message overhead. For this, our algorithm modifies the Fully-Informed algorithm by integrating it with the immediate dependency principle. The S-FI algorithm was simulated and the result shows that the algorithm is scalable since the message overhead presents an under-linear growth as the number of processes and/or the message density increase.

Because of the algebraic attacks, a high algebraic immunity is now an important criteria for Boolean functions used in stream ciphers. In 2011, X.Y. Zeng et al. proposed three constructions of balanced Boolean functions with maximum algebraic immunity, the constructions are based on univariate polynomial representation of Boolean functions. In this paper, we will improve X.Y. Zeng et al.' constructions to obtain more even-variable Boolean functions with maximum algebraic immunity. It is checked that, our new functions can have as high nonlinearity as X.Y. Zeng et al.' functions.

This paper presents a method to improve field uniformity using two TX antennas in a reverberation chamber with less steps of a stirrer. A mode-stirred reverberation chamber (MSRC) is considered as an alternative to the semi-anechoic chamber for an electromagnetic compatibility test because it provides a large test volume, a statistically uniform field, and a high maximum electric field. To improve field uniformity, we introduce two transmitting antennas for excitation in an MSRC, and predict statistical distribution of the complex reflection coefficients (scattering parameters). To prove the validation of our theory and the reliability of measurement results, three kinds of stirrers with different shape and sizes were fabricated and their efficiencies were measured in an MSRC, and then field uniformities have been investigated for 1–3 GHz frequency within the maximum number of independent samples that stirrers can provide. The measurement results show that the average received power is about 1.5 times as high as when using one transmitting antenna, and field uniformity is improved. Use of two transmitting antennas in an MSRC is regarded as a useful method to improve field uniformity at less stirrer steps, for radiated immunity tests.

It is well known that Boolean functions used in stream and block ciphers should have high algebraic immunity to resist algebraic attacks. Up to now, there have been many constructions of Boolean functions achieving the maximum algebraic immunity. In this paper, we present several constructions of rotation symmetric Boolean functions with maximum algebraic immunity on an odd number of variables which are not symmetric, via a study of invertible cyclic matrices over the binary field. In particular, we generalize the existing results and introduce a new method to construct all the rotation symmetric Boolean functions that differ from the majority function on two orbits. Moreover, we prove that their nonlinearities are upper bounded by .
