    This paper proposes an iterative peak power reduction method with adaptive intermediary over-sampling which uses the necessary minimum bandwidth according to iteration number for wireless OFDMA systems. The required bandwidth to each iteration number is evaluated by computer simulation, and over-sampling numbers in iterative processing are controlled by using the simulation results. The results show that the required bandwidth is 1.6, 2.0, and 2.7 times of the used signal bandwidth at the iteration number of 1, 2, and 3, respectively. The proposed adaptive over-sampling method can reduce its multiplication number by 13%.

    Model-based reinforcement learning uses the gathered information, during each experience, more efficiently than model-free reinforcement learning. This is especially interesting in multiagent systems, since a large number of experiences are necessary to achieve a good performance. In this paper, model-based reinforcement learning is developed for a group of self-interested agents with sequential action selection based on traditional prioritized sweeping. Every single situation of decision making in this learning process, called extensive Markov game, is modeled as n-person general-sum extensive form game with perfect information. A modified version of backward induction is proposed for action selection, which adjusts the tradeoff between selecting subgame perfect equilibrium points, as the optimal joint actions, and learning new joint actions. The algorithm is proved to be convergent and discussed based on the new results on the convergence of the traditional prioritized sweeping.

    ICA (Independent Component Analysis) has a remarkable capability of separating mixtures of stochastic random signals. However, we often face problems of separating mixtures of deterministic signals, especially sinusoidal signals, in some applications such as radar systems and communication systems. One may ask if ICA is effective for deterministic signals. In this paper, we analyze the basic performance of ICA in separating mixtures of complex sinusoidal signals, which utilizes the fourth order cumulant as a criterion of independency of signals. We theoretically show that ICA can separate mixtures of deterministic sinusoidal signals. Then, we conduct computer simulations and radio experiments with a linear array antenna to confirm the theoretical result. We will show that ICA is successful in separating mixtures of sinusoidal signals with frequency difference less than FFT resolution and with DOA (Direction of Arrival) difference less than Rayleigh criterion.

  • Cryptanalyses of Double-Mix Merkle-Damgård Mode in the Original Version of AURORA-512

    We present cryptanalyses of the original version of AURORA-512 hash function, which is a round-1 SHA-3 candidate. Our attack exploits weaknesses in a narrow-pipe mode of operation of AURORA-512 named "Double-Mix Merkle-Damgård (DMMD)." The current best collision attack proposed by Joux and Lucks only gives rough complexity estimations. We first evaluate its precise complexity and show its optimization. Secondly, we point out that the current best second-preimage attack proposed by Ferguson and Lucks does not work with the claimed complexity of 2291. We then evaluate a complexity so that the attack can work with a high success probability. We also show that the second-preimage attack can be used to attack the randomized hashing scheme. Finally, we present a key-recovery attack on HMAC-AURORA-512, which reveals 512-bit secret keys with 2257 queries, 2259 AURORA-512 operations, and negligible memory. The universal forgery on HMAC-AURORA-384 is also possible by combining the second-preimage and inner-key-recovery attacks.

    A 4-phase clock generator, which can dynamically change clock frequencies, duty ratios and I/Q balance, is proposed for on-chip timing margin testing. The clock generator macro is integrated into the microprocessor chip of the supercomputer SX-9, which is fabricated with a 65 nm CMOS technology. It demonstrates frequency syntheses of 1.68 GHz to 3 GHz range, an instant frequency change capability for timing margin testing, duty ratio and I/Q balance adjustments of -12.5 ps to 9.4 ps with a 3.125 ps step resolution.

    This paper presents a formulation of two-dimensional photonic crystal waveguide devices formed by circular cylinders. The device structures are considered as cascade connections of straight waveguides. Decomposing the structure into layers of the cylinder arrays, the input/output properties of the devices are obtained using an analysis method of multilayer structure. We introduce periodic boundary conditions in the direction perpendicular to the wave propagation, and the Floquet-modes of each layer are calculated by the Fourier series expansion method with the help of the recursive transition-matrix algorithm. Then, the input/output properties of the devices are obtained by recursive calculation of scattering matrix with each layer. The presented formulation is validated by numerical experiments by comparing with the previous works.

  • Data Management for Large-Scale Position-Tracking Systems

    We propose a distributed data management approach in this paper for a large-scale position-tracking system composed of multiple small systems based on wireless tag technologies such as RFID and Wi-Fi tags. Each of these small systems is called a domain, and a domain server manages the position data of the users belonging to its managing domain and also to the other domains but temporarily residing in its domain. The domain servers collaborate with each other to globally manage the position data, realizing the global position tracking. Several domains can be further grouped to form a larger domain, called a higher-domain, so that the whole system is constructed in a hierarchical structure. We implemented the proposed approach in an experimental environment, and conducted a performance evaluation on the proposed approach and compared it with an existing approach wherein a central server is used to manage the position data of all the users. The results showed that the position data processing load is distributed among the domain servers and the traffic for position data transmission over the backbone network can be significantly restrained.

    Locality of high frequency electromagnetic scattering phenomena is embodied and imported to the Method of Moments (MoM) to reduce computational load. The proposed method solves currents on small areas only around inner and edge stationary phase points (SPPs) on the scatterer surfaces. The range of MoM area is explicitly specified in terms of Fresnel zone number as a function of frequency, source and observer positions. Based upon this criterion, scatterer of arbitrary size and shape can be solved with almost frequency independent number of unknowns. In some special cases like focusing systems, locality disappears and the method reduces to the standard MoM. The hybrid method called PO-MoM is complementarily introduced to cope with these cases, where Fresnel zone number with analogous but different definition is used. The selective use of Local-MoM and PO-MoM provides frequency insensitive number of unknowns for general combination of source and observation points. Numerical examples of RCS calculation for two dimensional flat and curved surfaces are presented to demonstrate the accuracy and reduction of unknowns of this method. The Fresnel zone, introduced in the scattering analysis for the first time, is a useful indicator of the locality or the boundary for MoM areas.

    In this letter, an improved channel estimator for MIMO-SCBT systems is proposed. Pilot blocks are constructed using quadriphase complementary sequences (QCSs) which enable both one-sided (OSD) and two-sided (TSD) channel estimation (CE). And OSD-CE and TSD-CE are combined to provide improved performance in frequency-selective fast and slow fading channels and to maintain low-complexity implementations. Simulation results demonstrate the performance merits of the proposed scheme.

    To reduce the inaccuracy caused by inappropriate time window, we propose two probabilistic fault localization schemes based on the idea of "extending time window." The global window extension algorithm (GWE) uses a window extension strategy for all candidate faults, while the on-demand window extension algorithm (OWE) uses the extended window only for a small set of faults when necessary. Both algorithms can increase the metric values of actual faults and thus improve the accuracy of fault localization. Simulation results show that both schemes perform better than existing algorithms. Furthermore, OWE performs better than GWE at the cost of a bit more computing time.

    Advanced Evolved Universal Terrestrial Radio Access (Advanced E-UTRA), called LTE-Advanced, has been standardized in the 3rd Generation Partnership Project (3GPP) as a candidate for IMT-Advanced. LTE-Advanced supports spatial orthogonal-resource transmit diversity (SORTD) [1],[2] for ACK/NACK signals and scheduling requests (SRs), which are used to control downlink hybrid automatic repeat requests (HARQs) and manage uplink radio resources based on uplink data traffic, respectively. Both ACK/NACK signals and SRs are carried via a physical uplink control channel (PUCCH) [3], and a common PUCCH format is used for both ACK/NACK signals and SRs. If SORTD is used, the base station assigns mutually orthogonal resources to each antenna included in the user equipment (UE) for ACK/NACK signals and SRs; hence, the number of required resources increases with the number of transmitting antennas in the UE. In this paper, we study the resource reduction method for ACK/NACK signal and SR in case of SORTD using the concept of common resource. In addition, we investigate a phase rotation scheme for common resources to improve the SR detection performance.

It is proved that generalized likelihood ratio test (GLRT), Rao test and Wald test are all the Uniformly Most Powerful Invariant (UMPI) detectors in SIRV distributions under a mild technical condition.

    A neuro fuzzy method to design analog circuits is explained, where the universe of discourse of the fuzzy system is adjusted by means of a self-organized artificial neural network. As an example of this approach, an op-amp is optimized in order to hold a predetermined aim; where the unity gain bandwidth is an objective of design, and the restrictions of open-loop gain and margin phase are treated as objectives too. Firstly, the experience of the behavior of the circuit is obtained, hence an inference system is constructed and a neural network is applied to achieve a faster convergence into a desired solution. This approach is characterized by having a simple implementation, a very natural understanding and a better performance than static methods of fuzzy optimization.

    This paper proposes a low-complexity algorithm to calculate log likelihood ratios (LLRs) of coded bits, which is necessary for channel decoding in coded MIMO mobile communications. An approximate LLR needs to find a pair of transmitted signal candidates that can maximize the log likelihood function under a constraint that a coded bit is equal to either one or zero. The proposed algorithm can find such a pair simultaneously, whereas conventional ones find them individually. Specifically, the proposed method searches for such candidates in directions of the noise enhancement using the MMSE detection as a starting point. First, an inverse matrix which the MMSE weight matrix includes is obtained and then the power method derives eigenvectors of the inverse matrix as the directions of the noise enhancement. With some eigenvectors, one-dimensional search and hard decision are performed. From the resultant signals, the transmitted signal candidates to be required are selected on the basis of the log likelihood function. Computer simulations with 44 MIMO-OFDM, 16QAM, and convolutional codes (rate =1/2, 2/3) demonstrate that the proposed algorithm requires only 1.0 dB more Eb/N0 than that of the maximum likelihood detection (MLD) in order to achieve packet error rate of 10-3, while reducing the complexity to about 0.2% of that of MLD.

    In this paper we unveil basic properties of a code Γq for digital fingerprinting based on a projective plane of order q. We consider a situation where a coalition of malicious users generates a pirated digital content in which a binary sequence w is embedded subject to the marking assumption. Here, the size of the coalition is assumed to be less than or equal to a known constant c ≥ 2. We evaluate the number of candidates of the coalition that can also generate w subject to the marking assumption. It is shown that the number of such candidates is completely determined as a function of w for the case of c = 2. In addition, we give a sufficient condition under which all the malicious users are correctly identified from w for the case of c ≥ 3. Relationships between Γq and other existing classes of codes are discussed as well.

    This letter presents the field uniformity characteristics of a triangular prism reverberation chamber. A reverberation chamber that generally uses a stirrer to create a uniform electric field inside is an alternative to the semi-anechoic chamber for an electromagnetic compatibility test. To overcome the size and maintenance problems of a stirrer, we propose to replace it with a Quadratic Residue Diffuser which is commonly used in acoustics. To confirm that the diffuser is a valid alternative to the stirrer, a diffuser and an equilateral triangular prism reverberation chamber are designed and fabricated for 2.3-3.0 GHz operation. To investigate the field uniformity characteristics by varying the location of the transmitting antenna, both simulation and measurement in the triangular prism reverberation chamber were also done at its two positions, respectively. A commercial program XFDTD 6.2, engaging the finite difference time domain (FDTD), is used for simulation and a cumulative probability distribution, which the IEC 61000-4-21 recommends, is used to evaluate the field uniformity. Both simulation and measurement results show that the field uniformity in the chamber satisfies the international standard requirement of 6 dB tolerance and 3dB standard deviation, which means that a diffuser can be substituted for a stirrer.

    We propose, in this letter, a new type of image denoising filter using a data analysis technique. We deal with pixels as data and extract the most dominant cluster from pixels in the filtering window. We output the centroid of the extracted cluster. We demonstrate that this graph-spectral filter can effectively reduce a mixture of Gaussian and random impulsive noise.

    In UWB systems, data symbols are transmitted and received continuously. The Fast Fourier Transform (FFT) processor must be able to seamlessly process input/output data. This paper presents the design and implementation of a continuous data flow parallel memory-based FFT (CF-PMBFFT) processor without the use of input buffer for pre-loading the input data. The processor realizes a memory space of two N-words and multiple processing elements (PEs) to achieve the seamless data flow and meet the design requirement. The circuit has been fabricated in TSMC 0.18 µm 1P6M CMOS process with the supply voltage of 1.8 V. Measurement results of the test chip shows that the developed CF-PMBFFT processor takes a core area of 1.97 mm2 with a power consumption of 62.12 mW for a throughput rate of 528 MS/s.

    In Video-on-Demand (VoD) services, the playback continuity is one of the most crucial factors for end-user to judge service quality. It is even more significant than the actual video image quality since new generation VoD users commonly have heterogeneous requirements on service according to their context. Moreover, managing dynamic situations in VoD service is always a challenge, especially in the unpredictable user preferences and network conditions. In this paper, i) Autonomous Decentralized VoD System (ADVODS) has been proposed to satisfy different service quality demands of users and, ii) the Autonomous Node Allocation Technology (ANAT) is proposed for assuring service continuity. With the help of autonomous nodes and mobile agents, ANAT can applies different backup policies to users with different Service Level Agreements (SLA), and dynamically update the backup schema to adapt the changing situations such as various service time or congestion events. Drawing on the evaluation results this paper shows that proposed system architecture has a better performance on streaming service provision and continuity.

    In OFDM systems, in-phase and quadrature (I/Q) imbalances generated in the analog front-end introduce inter-channel interference and, consequently, error performance degradation. This letter provides an exact expression involving the two-dimensional (2-D) Gaussian Q-function for the error probability of an arbitrary 2-D modulated OFDM signal with I/Q imbalances. The effects of I/Q imbalances on the distribution of an AWGN and the error performance are analyzed.
