Aiming at the problem that traditional text-level sentiment analysis methods usually ignore the emotional tendency corresponding to the object or attribute. In this paper, a novel two-stage fine-grained text-level sentiment analysis model based on syntactic rule matching and deep semantics is proposed. Based on analyzing the characteristics and difficulties of fine-grained sentiment analysis, a two-stage fine-grained sentiment analysis algorithm framework is constructed. In the first stage, the objects and its corresponding opinions are extracted based on syntactic rules matching to obtain preliminary objects and opinions. The second stage based on deep semantic network to extract more accurate objects and opinions. Aiming at the problem that the extraction result contains multiple objects and opinions to be matched, an object-opinion matching algorithm based on the minimum lexical separation distance is proposed to achieve accurate pairwise matching. Finally, the proposed algorithm is evaluated on several public datasets to demonstrate its practicality and effectiveness.

Machine learning is becoming an attractive topic for researchers and industrial firms in the area of computational intelligence because of its proven effectiveness and performance in resolving real-world problems. However, some challenges such as precise search, intelligent discovery and intelligent learning need to be addressed and solved. One most important challenge is the non-steady performance of various machine learning models during online learning and operation. Online learning is the ability of a machine-learning model to modernize information without retraining the scheme when new information is available. To address this challenge, we evaluate and analyze four widely used online machine learning models: Online Sequential Extreme Learning Machine (OSELM), Feature Adaptive OSELM (FA-OSELM), Knowledge Preserving OSELM (KP-OSELM), and Infinite Term Memory OSELM (ITM-OSELM). Specifically, we provide a testbed for the models by building a framework and configuring various evaluation scenarios given different factors in the topological and mathematical aspects of the models. Furthermore, we generate different characteristics of the time series to be learned. Results prove the real impact of the tested parameters and scenarios on the models. In terms of accuracy, KP-OSELM and ITM-OSELM are superior to OSELM and FA-OSELM. With regard to time efficiency related to the percentage of decreases in active features, ITM-OSELM is superior to KP-OSELM.

A new threshold circuit technique is proposed for a vibration sensing circuit that operates at a nanowatt power level. The sensing circuits that use sample-and-hold require a clock signal, and they consume power to generate a signal. In the use of a Schmitt trigger circuit that does not use a clock signal, a sink current flows when thresholding the analog signal output. The requirements for millimeter-sized wireless sensor nodes are an average power on the order of a nanowatt and a signal transition time of less than 1 ms. To meet these requirements, our circuit limits the sink current with a nanoampere-level current source. The chattering caused by current limiting is suppressed by feeding back the change in output voltage to the limiting current. The increase in the signal transition time that is caused by current limiting is reduced by accelerating the discharge of the load capacitance. For a test chip fabricated in the 0.35-µm CMOS process, the proposed threshold circuits operate without chattering and the average powers are 0.7-3 nW. The signal transition times are estimated in a circuit simulation to be 65-97 µs. The proposed circuit has 1/150th the power-delay product with no time interval of the sensing operation under the condition that the time interval is 1s. These results indicate that, the proposed threshold circuits are suitable for vibration sensing in millimeter-sized wireless sensor nodes.

On the Internet, there are lots of unused domain names that are not used for any actual services. Domain parking is a monetization mechanism for displaying online advertisements in such unused domain names. Some domain names used in cyber attacks are known to leverage domain parking services after the attack. However, the temporal relationships between domain parking services and malicious domain names have not been studied well. In this study, we investigated how malicious domain names using domain parking services change over time. We conducted a large-scale measurement study of more than 66.8 million domain names that have used domain parking services in the past 19 months. We reveal the existence of 3,964 domain names that have been malicious after using domain parking. We further identify what types of malicious activities (e.g., phishing and malware) such malicious domain names tend to be used for. We also reveal the existence of 3.02 million domain names that utilized multiple parking services simultaneously or while switching between them. Our study can contribute to the efficient analysis of malicious domain names using domain parking services.

This paper formulates minimal word-line (WL) delay time with pre-emphasis pulses to design the pulse width as a function of the overdrive voltage for large memory arrays such as 3D NAND. Circuit theory for a single RC line only with capacitance to ground and that only with coupling capacitance as well as a general case where RC lines have both grounded and coupling capacitance is discussed to provide an optimum pre-emphasis pulse width to minimize the delay time. The theory is expanded to include the cases where the resistance of the RC line driver is not negligibly small. The minimum delay time formulas of a single RC delay line and capacitive coupling RC lines was in good agreement (i.e. within 5% error) with measurement. With this research, circuit designers can estimate an optimum pre-emphasis pulse width and the delay time for an RC line in the initial design phase.

Various graph algorithms have been developed with multiple random walks, the movement of several independent random walkers on a graph. Designing an efficient graph algorithm based on multiple random walks requires investigating multiple random walks theoretically to attain a deep understanding of their characteristics. The first meeting time is one of the important metrics for multiple random walks. The first meeting time on a graph is defined by the time it takes for multiple random walkers to meet at the same node in a graph. This time is closely related to the rendezvous problem, a fundamental problem in computer science. The first meeting time of multiple random walks has been analyzed previously, but many of these analyses focused on regular graphs. In this paper, we analyze the first meeting time of multiple random walks in arbitrary graphs and clarify the effects of graph structures on expected values. First, we derive the spectral formula of the expected first meeting time on the basis of spectral graph theory. Then, we examine the principal component of the expected first meeting time using the derived spectral formula. The clarified principal component reveals that (a) the expected first meeting time is almost dominated by $n/(1+d_{ m std}^2/d_{ mavg}^2)$ and (b) the expected first meeting time is independent of the starting nodes of random walkers, where n is the number of nodes of the graph. davg and dstd are the average and the standard deviation of weighted node degrees, respectively. Characteristic (a) is useful for understanding the effect of the graph structure on the first meeting time. According to the revealed effect of graph structures, the variance of the coefficient dstd/davg (degree heterogeneity) for weighted degrees facilitates the meeting of random walkers.

Improvement of output and lifetime is a problem for biofuel cells. A structure was adopted in which gelation mixed with agarose and fuel (fructose) was sandwiched by electrodes made of graphene-coated carbon fiber. The cathode surface not contacting the gel was exposed to air. In addition, the anode surface not contacting the gel was in contact with fuel liquid to prevent the gel from being dry. The power density of the fuel cell was improved by increasing oxygen supply from air and the lifetime was improved by maintaining wet gel, that is, the proposed structure was a hybrid type having advantages of both fuel gel and fuel liquid. The output increased almost up to that of just using fuel gel and did not decrease significantly over time. The maximum power density in the proposed system was approximately 74.0 µW/cm2, an enhancement of approximately 1.5 times that in the case of using liquid fuel. The power density after 24 h was approximately 46.1 µW/cm2, which was 62% of the initial value.

Multi-objective evolutionary algorithms are widely used in many engineering optimization problems and artificial intelligence applications. Ant lion optimizer is an outstanding evolutionary method, but two issues need to be solved to extend it to the multi-objective optimization field, one is how to update the Pareto archive, and the other is how to choose elite and ant lions from archive. We develop a novel multi-objective variant of ant lion optimizer in this paper. A new measure combining Pareto dominance relation and distance information of individuals is put forward and used to tackle the first issue. The concept of time weight is developed to handle the second problem. Besides, mutation operation is adopted on solutions in middle part of archive to further improve its performance. Eleven functions, other four algorithms and four indicators are taken to evaluate the new method. The results show that proposed algorithm has better performance and lower time complexity.

We address analysis and design problems of aggregate demand response systems composed of various consumers based on controllability to facilitate to design automated demand response machines that are installed into consumers to automatically respond to electricity price changes. To this end, we introduce a controllability index that expresses the worst-case error between the expected total electricity consumption and the electricity supply when the best electricity price is chosen. The analysis problem using the index considers how to maximize the controllability of the whole consumer group when the consumption characteristic of each consumer is not fixed. In contrast, the design problem considers the whole consumer group when the consumption characteristics of a part of the group are fixed. By solving the analysis problem, we first clarify how the controllability, average consumption characteristics of all consumers, and the number of selectable electricity prices are related. In particular, the minimum value of the controllability index is determined by the number of selectable electricity prices. Next, we prove that the design problem can be solved by a simple linear optimization. Numerical experiments demonstrate that our results are able to increase the controllability of the overall consumer group.

This paper proposes a novel radio access scheme that uses duplicated transmission via multiple frequency channels to achieve mission critical Internet of Things (IoT) services requiring highly reliable wireless communications; the interference constraints that yield the required reliability are revealed. To achieve mission critical IoT services by wireless communication, it is necessary to improve reliability in addition to satisfying the required transmission delay time. Reliability is defined as the packet arrival rate without exceeding the desired transmission delay time. Traffic of the own system and interference from the other systems using the same frequency channel such as unlicensed bands degrades the reliability. One solution is the frequency/time diversity technique. However, these techniques may not achieve the required reliability because of the time taken to achieve the correct reception. This paper proposes a novel scheme that transmits duplicate packets utilizing multiple wireless interfaces over multiple frequency channels. It also proposes a suppressed duplicate transmission (SDT) scheme, which prevents the wastage of radio resources. The proposed scheme achieves the same reliable performance as the conventional scheme but has higher tolerance against interference than retransmission. We evaluate the relationship between the reliability and the occupation time ratio where the interference occupation time ratio is defined as the usage ratio of the frequency resources occupied by the other systems. We reveal the upper bound of the interference occupation time ratio for each frequency channel, which is needed if channel selection control is to achieve the required reliability.

As the nodes of AWSN (Aerial Wireless Sensor Networks) fly around, the network topology changes frequently with high energy consumption and high cluster head mortality, and some sensor nodes may fly away from the original cluster and interrupt network communication. To ensure the normal communication of the network, this paper proposes an improved LEACH-M protocol for aerial wireless sensor networks. The protocol is improved based on the traditional LEACH-M protocol and MCR protocol. A Cluster head selection method based on maximum energy and an efficient solution for outlier nodes is proposed to ensure that cluster heads can be replaced prior to their death and ensure outlier nodes re-home quickly and efficiently. The experiments show that, compared with the LEACH-M protocol and MCR protocol, the improved LEACH-M protocol performance is significantly optimized, increasing network data transmission efficiency, improving energy utilization, and extending network lifetime.

Metabolic networks represent the relationship between chemical reactions and compounds in cells. In useful metabolite production using microorganisms, it is often required to calculate reaction deletion strategies from the original network to result in growth coupling, which means the target metabolite production and cell growth are simultaneously achieved. Although simple elementary flux mode (EFM)-based methods are useful for listing such reaction deletions strategies, the number of cases to be considered is often proportional to the exponential function of the size of the network. Therefore, it is desirable to develop methods of narrowing down the number of reaction deletion strategy candidates. In this study, the author introduces the idea of L1 norm minimal modes to consider metabolic flows whose L1 norms are minimal to satisfy certain criteria on growth and production, and developed a fast metabolic design listing algorithm based on it (minL1-FMDL), which works in polynomial time. Computational experiments were conducted for (1) a relatively small network to compare the performance of minL1-FMDL with that of the simple EFM-based method and (2) a genome-scale network to verify the scalability of minL1-FMDL. In the computational experiments, it was seen that the average value of the target metabolite production rates of minL1-FMDL was higher than that of the simple EFM-based method, and the computation time of minL1-FMDL was fast enough even for genome-scale networks. The developed software, minL1-FMDL, implemented in MATLAB, is available on https://sunflower.kuicr.kyoto-u.ac.jp/~tamura/software, and can be used for genome-scale metabolic network design for metabolite production.

Source localization in a wireless sensor network (WSN) is sensitive to the sensors' positions. In practice, due to mobility, the receivers' positions may be known inaccurately, leading to non-negligible degradation in source localization estimation performance. The goal of this paper is to develop a semidefinite programming (SDP) method using time-difference-of arrival (TDOA) and frequency-difference-of-arrival (FDOA) by taking the sensor position uncertainties into account. Specifically, we transform the commonly used maximum likelihood estimator (MLE) problem into a convex optimization problem to obtain an initial estimation. To reduce the coupling between position and velocity estimator, we also propose an iterative method to obtain the velocity and position, by using weighted least squares (WLS) method and SDP method, respectively. Simulations show that the method can approach the Cramér-Rao lower bound (CRLB) under both mild and high noise levels.

This paper addresses pilot contamination in massive multiple-input multiple-output (MIMO) uplink. Pilot contamination is caused by reuse of identical pilot sequences in adjacent cells. To solve pilot contamination, the base station utilizes differences between the transmission frames of different users, which are detected via joint channel and data estimation. The joint estimation is regarded as a bilinear inference problem in compressed sensing. Expectation propagation (EP) is used to propose an iterative channel and data estimation algorithm. Initial channel estimates are attained via time-shifted pilots without exploiting information about large scale fading. The proposed EP modifies two points in conventional bilinear adaptive vector approximate message-passing (BAd-VAMP). One is that EP utilizes data estimates after soft decision in the channel estimation while BAd-VAMP uses them before soft decision. The other point is that EP can utilize the prior distribution of the channel matrix while BAd-VAMP cannot in principle. Numerical simulations show that EP converges much faster than BAd-VAMP in spatially correlated MIMO, in which approximate message-passing fails to converge toward the same fixed-point as EP and BAd-VAMP.

In this paper, we propose a real-time BSS (Blind Source Separation) system with two microphones that extracts only desired sound sources. Under the assumption that the desired sound sources are close to the microphones, the proposed BSS system suppresses distant sound sources as undesired sound sources. We previously developed a BSS system that can estimate the distance from a microphone to a sound source and suppress distant sound sources, but it was not a real-time processing system. The proposed BSS system is a real-time version of our previous BSS system. To develop the proposed BSS system, we simplify some BSS procedures of the previous system. Simulation results showed that the proposed system can effectively suppress the distant source signals in real-time and has almost the same capability as the previous system.

This paper studies the infinite time horizon optimal control problem for continuous-time nonlinear systems. A completely model-free approximate optimal control design method is proposed, which only makes use of the real-time measured data from trajectories instead of a dynamical model of the system. This approach is based on the actor-critic structure, where the weights of the critic neural network and the actor neural network are updated sequentially by the method of weighted residuals. It should be noted that an external input is introduced to replace the input-to-state dynamics to improve the control policy. Moreover, strict proof of convergence to the optimal solution along with the stability of the closed-loop system is given. Finally, a numerical example is given to show the efficiency of the method.

We propose a system time synchronization method between ARM-based embedded Linux systems. The master Linux with reference clock sends its own system time to the slave Linux via Transmission Control Protocol communication along with a general-purpose input/output (GPIO) signal, and then the slave Linux corrects its own system time by the difference between its own system time at receiving the GPIO signal and the received reference time. The synchronization performance is significantly improved by compensating for the GPIO signal detection latency and the system time acquisition and setting latencies in Linux. These latencies are precisely measured by exploiting the function of Cycle Counter register in ARM coprocessor. Extensive experiments are performed with two ARM-based embedded Linux systems, and the results demonstrate the validity and performance of the proposed synchronization method.

This letter proposes the use of a novel time-modulated array structure to estimate the direction of arrival (DOA). Such a time-modulated coprime array (TMCA) is obtained by exchanging a coprime array's phase shifter for a radio frequency (RF) switch. Compared with a traditional coprime array, the TMCA's structure is much simpler, and it has a higher degree of freedom and resolution compared with a time-modulated uniform linear array (TMULA) due to its exploitation of the virtual array's equivalent signals. Theoretical analysis and experimental results have validated the effectiveness of the proposed structure and method and have confirmed that a TMCA's DOA performance is better than that of a TMULA using the same number of antennas.

In this paper, we propose a robust output feedback control method for nonlinear systems with uncertain time-varying parameters associated with diagonal terms and there are additional external disturbances. First, we provide a new practical guidance of obtaining a compact set which contains the allowed time-varying parameters by utilizing a Lyapunov equation and matrix inequalities. Then, we show that all system states and observer errors of the controlled system remain bounded by the proposed controller. Moreover, we show that the ultimate bounds of some system states and observer errors can be made (arbitrarily) small by adjusting a gain-scaling factor depending on the system nonlinearity. With an application example, we illustrate the effectiveness of our control scheme over the existing one.
