This paper reports our new communication components and downlink tests for realizing 2.65Gbps by utilizing two circular polarizations. We have developed an on-board X-band transmitter, an on-board dual circularly polarized-wave antenna, and a ground station. In the on-board transmitter, we optimized the bias conditions of GaN High Power Amplifier (HPA) to linearize AM-AM performance. We have also designed and fabricated a dual circularly polarized-wave antenna for low-crosstalk polarization multiplexing. The antenna is composed of a corrugated horn antenna and a septum-type polarizer. The antenna achieves Cross Polarization Discrimination (XPD) of 37-43dB in the target X-band. We also modify an existing 10m ground station antenna by replacing its primary radiator and adding a polarizer. We put the polarizer and Low Noise Amplifiers (LNAs) in a cryogenic chamber to reduce thermal noise. Total system noise temperature of the antenna is 58K (maximum) for 18K physical temperature when the angle of elevation is 90° on a fine winter day. The dual circularly polarized-wave ground station antenna has 39.0dB/K of Gain - system-noise Temperature ratio (G/T) and an XPD higher than 37dB. The downlinked signals are stored in a data recorder at the antenna site. Afterwards, we decoded the signals by using our non-real-time software demodulator. Our system has high frequency efficiency with a roll-off factor α=0.05 and polarization multiplexing of 64APSK. The communication bits per hertz corresponds to 8.41bit/Hz (2.65Gbit/315MHz). The system is demonstrated in orbit on board the RAPid Innovative payload demonstration Satellite (RAPIS-1). RAPIS-1 was launched from Uchinoura Space Center on January 19th, 2019. We decoded 1010 bits of downlinked R- and L-channel signals and found that the downlinked binary data was error free. Consequently, we have achieved 2.65Gbps communication speed in the X-band for earth observation satellites at 300 Mega symbols per second (Msps) and polarization multiplexing of 64APSK (coding rate: 4/5) for right- and left-hand circular polarizations.
In recent years, with the continuous development of the Internet of Things, radio frequency identification (RFID) technology has also been widely concerned. The computing power of low cost tags is limited because of their high hardware requirements. Symmetric encryption algorithms and asymmetric encryption algorithms, such as RSA, DES, AES, etc., cannot be suitable for low cost RFID protocols. Therefore, research on RFID security authentication protocols with low cost and high security has become a focus. Recently, an ultralightweight RFID authentication protocol LP2UF was proposed to provide security and prevent all possible attacks. However, it is discovered that a type of desynchronization attack can successfully break the proposed scheme. To overcome the vulnerability against desynchronization attacks, we propose here a new ultra-lightweight RFID two-way authentication protocol based on stream cipher technology that uses only XOR. The stream cipher is employed to ensure security between readers and tags. Analysis shows that our protocol can effectively resist position tracking attacks, desynchronization attacks, and replay attacks.

Aiming at the problems of traditional algorithms that require high prior knowledge and weak timeliness, this paper proposes an emergency communication network topology planning method based on deep reinforcement learning. Based on the characteristics of the emergency communication network, and drawing on chess, we map the node layout and topology planning problems in the network planning to chess game problems; The two factors of network coverage and connectivity are considered to construct the evaluation criteria for network planning; The method of combining Monte Carlo tree search and self-game is used to realize network planning sample data generation, and the network planning strategy network and value network structure based on residual network are designed. On this basis, the model was constructed and trained based on Tensorflow library. Simulation results show that the proposed planning method can effectively implement intelligent planning of network topology, and has excellent timeliness and feasibility.

High-speed serial data communication is essential for connecting peripherals in high-performance computing systems. Interlaken is a high-speed serial data communication protocol that has been widely adopted in various applications as it can run on multiple medias such as PCBs, blackplans or over cables. The Interlaken uses 64b/67b line coding to maintain the run length (RL) and the running disparity (RD) with the advantage of an inversion bit that indicates whether the receiver must flip the data or not. By using the inversion bit, it increases 1bit overhead to every data word. This paper proposes 64b/i67b line coding technique for encoding and decoding to improve the cumulative running disparity of 64b/67b without additional bit overhead. The results have been obtained from simulations that use random data and the Squash data set, and the proposed method reduces the maximum cumulative running disparity value up to 33%.

In array signal processing, many methods of handling cases of impulsive noise with an alpha-stable distribution have been studied. By introducing correntropy with a robust statistical property, this paper proposes a novel fractional lower order correntropy (FLOCR) method. The FLOCR-based estimator for array outputs is defined and applied with multiple signal classification (MUSIC) to estimate the direction of arrival (DOA) in alpha-stable distributed noise environments. Comprehensive Monte Carlo simulation results demonstrate that FLOCR-MUSIC outperforms existing algorithms in terms of root mean square error (RMSE) and the probability of resolution, especially in the presence of highly impulsive noise.
This paper presents a low profile high-efficiency transmitarray (TA) antenna based on a hybrid frequency selective surface (FSS). The hybrid FSS consists of two types of unit cells that have different incident angles and TE/TM polarization. This design minimizes the performance degradation caused by the oblique incident angle when designing a low profile TA antenna. In addition, the set of transmission phases to minimize transmission loss is selected by employing the optimal output phase reference. To verify its feasibility, a low profile TA (focal length/diameter of FSS =0.24) antenna that employs a unit patch antenna with a low gain and wide beamwidth as a feed antenna without an additional structure is designed. The simulated and measured results are in good agreement. In particular, the high simulated and measured aperture efficiencies of 42.7% and 41.9%, respectively, are obtained at 10GHz, respectively.

The phaseless antenna measurement technique is advantageous for high-frequency near-field measurements in which the uncertainty of the measured phase is a problem. In the phaseless measurement, which is expected to be used in the frequency band with a short wavelength, a slight positional deviation error of the probe greatly deteriorates the measurement result. This paper proposes a phase retrieval method that can compensate the measurement errors caused by misalignment of a probe and its jig. And this paper proposes a far-field estimation method by phase resurrection that incorporated the compensation techniques. We find that the positioning errors are due to the random errors occurring at each measurement point because of minute vibrations of the probe; in addition, we determine that the stationary depth errors occurring at each measurement surface as errors caused by improper setting of the probe jig. The random positioning error is eliminated by adding a low-pass filter in wavenumber space, and the depth positioning error is iteratively compensated on the basis of the relative residual obtained in each plane. The validity of the proposed method is demonstrated by estimating the far-field patterns using the results from numerical simulations, and is also demonstrated using measurement data with probe-positioning error. The proposed method can reduce the probe-positioning error and improve the far-field estimation accuracy by more over than 10 dB.

This paper proposes a transparent glass quartz antenna for 5G-millimeter-wave-connected vehicles and clarifies the characteristics of signal reception when the glass antennas are placed on the windows of a vehicle traveling in an urban environment. Synthetic fused quartz is a material particularly suited for millimeter-wave devices owing to its excellent low transmission loss. Realizing synthetic fused quartz devices requires accurate micromachining technology specialized for the material coupled with the material technology. This paper presents a transparent antenna comprising a thin mesh pattern on a quartz substrate for installation on a vehicle window. A comparison of distributed transparent antennas and an omnidirectional antenna shows that the relative received power of the distributed antenna system is higher than that of the omnidirectional antenna. In addition, results show that the power received is similar when using vertically and horizontally polarized antennas. The design is verified in a field test using transparent antennas on the windows of a real vehicle.
This paper presents a conformal retrodirective metagrating with multi-azimuthal-angle operating ability. First, a flat metagrating composed of a periodic array of single rectangular patch elements, two-layer stacked substrates, and a ground plane is implemented to achieve one-directional retroreflection at a specific angle. The elevation angle of the retroreflection is manipulated by precisely tuning the value of the period. To control the energy coupling to the retrodirective mode, the dimensions of the length and width of the rectangular patch are investigated under the effect of changing the substrate thickness. Three values of the length, width, and thickness are then chosen to obtain a high retroreflection power efficiency. Next, to create a conformal design operating simultaneously at multiple azimuthal angles, the rectangular patch array using a flexible ultra-thin guiding layer is conformed to a dielectric cylindrical substrate backed by a perfect electric conductor ground plane. Furthermore, to further optimize the retroreflection efficiency, two circular metallic plates are added at the two ends of the cylindrical substrate to eliminate the specular reflection inside the space of the cylinder. The measured radar cross-section shows a power efficiency of the retrodirective metagrating of approximately 91% and 93% for 30° retrodirected elevation angle at the azimuthal angles of 0° and 90°, respectively, at 5.8GHz.

A method is presented for increasing wireless LAN (WLAN) capacity in high-density environments with IEEE 802.11ax systems. We propose using coordinated scheduling of trigger frames based on our mobile cooperative control concept. High-density WLAN systems are managed by a management server, which gathers wireless environmental information from user equipment through cellular access. Hierarchical clustering of basic service sets is used to form synchronized clusters to reduce interference and increase throughput of high-density WLAN systems based on mobile cooperative control. This method increases uplink capacity by up to 19.4% and by up to 11.3% in total when WLAN access points are deployed close together. This control method is potentially effective for IEEE 802.11ax WLAN systems utilized as 5G mobile network components.

This paper proposes iterative carrier frequency offset (CFO) compensation for spatially multiplexed Bluetooth Low Energy (BLE) signals using independent component analysis (ICA). We apply spatial division multiple access (SDMA) to BLE system to deal with massive number of connection requests of BLE devices expected in the future. According to specifications, each BLE peripheral device is assumed to have CFO of up to 150 [kHz] due to hardware impairments. ICA can resolve spatially multiplexed signals even if they include independent CFO. After the ICA separation, the proposed scheme compensates for the CFO. However, the length of the BLE packet preamble is not long enough to obtain accurate CFO estimates. In order to accurately conduct the CFO compensation using the equivalent of a long pilot signal, preamble and a part of estimated data in the previous process are utilized. In addition, we reveal the fact that the independent CFO of each peripheral improves the capability of ICA blind separation. The results confirm that the proposed scheme can effectively compensate for CFO in the range of up to 150[kHz], which is defined as the acceptable value in the BLE specification.

This paper proposes coded modulation for physical layer network coding in multiple input multiple output orthogonal frequency division multiplexing (MIMO-OFDM) bi-directional wireless relay systems where precoding is applied. The proposed coded modulation enables the relays to decode the received signals, which improves the transmission performance. Soft input decoding for the proposed coded modulation is proposed. Furthermore, we propose two precoder weight optimization techniques, called “per subcarrier weight optimization” and “total weight optimization”. This paper shows a precoder configuration based on the optimization with the lattice reduction or the sorted QR-decomposition. The performance of the proposed network coding is evaluated by computer simulation in a MIMO-OFDM two-hop wireless relay system with the 16 quadrature amplitude modulation (QAM) or the 256QAM. The proposed coded modulation attains a coding gain of about 2dB at the BER of 10-4. The total weight optimization achieves about 1dB better BER performance than the other at the BER of 10-4.

Dense deployments of wireless local area network (WLAN) access points (APs) are accelerating to accommodate the massive wireless traffic from various mobile devices. The AP densification improves the received power at mobile devices; however, total throughput in a target area is saturated by inter-cell interference (ICI) because of the limited number of frequency channels available for WLANs. To substantially mitigate ICI, we developed and described a distributed smart antenna system (D-SAS) proposed for dense WLAN AP deployment in this paper. We also describe a system configuration based on our D-SAS approach. In this approach, the distributed antennas externally attached to each AP can be switched so as to make the transmit power match the mobile device's conditions (received power and packet type). The gains obtained by the antenna switching effectively minimize the transmission power required of each AP. We also describe experimental measurements taken in a stadium using a system prototype, the results show that D-SAS offers double the total throughput attained by a centralized smart antenna system (C-SAS).

Stochastic geometry analysis of wireless backhaul networks with beamforming in roadside environments is provided. In particular, a new model to analyze antenna gains, interference, and coverage in roadside environments of wireless networks with Poisson point process deployment of BSs is proposed. The received interference from the BSs with wired backhaul (referred to as anchored BS or A-BS) and the coverage probability of a typical BS are analyzed under different approximations of the location of the serving A-BS and combined antenna gains. Considering the beamforming, the coverage probability based on the aggregate interference consisting of the direct interference from the A-BSs and reflected interference from the BSs with wireless backhaul is also derived.
