High frame rate and ultra-low delay matching system plays an increasingly important role in human-machine interactions, because it guarantees high-quality experiences for users. Existing image matching algorithms always generate mismatches which heavily weaken the performance the human-machine-interactive systems. Although many mismatch removal algorithms have been proposed, few of them achieve real-time speed with high frame rate and low delay, because of complicated arithmetic operations and iterations. This paper proposes a temporal constraints and block weighting judgement based high frame rate and ultra-low delay mismatch removal system. The proposed method is based on two temporal constraints (proposal #1 and proposal #2) to firstly find some true matches, and uses these true matches to generate block weighting (proposal #3). Proposal #1 finds out some correct matches through checking a triangle route formed by three adjacent frames. Proposal #2 further reduces mismatch risk by adding one more time of matching with opposite matching direction. Finally, proposal #3 distinguishes the unverified matches to be correct or incorrect through weighting of each block. Software experiments show that the proposed mismatch removal system achieves state-of-the-art accuracy in mismatch removal. Hardware experiments indicate that the designed image processing core successfully achieves real-time processing of 784fps VGA (640×480 pixels/frame) video on field programmable gate array (FPGA), with a delay of 0.858 ms/frame.

Goal modeling is a method that describes requirements structurally. Goal modeling mainly consists of two tasks: extraction of goals and organization of the extracted goals. Generally, the process of the goal modeling requires intensive manual intervention and higher modeling skills than the process of the usual requirements description. In order to mitigate this problem, we propose a method that provides systematic supports for constructing goal models. In the method, the requirement analyst answers questions and a goal model is semi-automatically constructed based on the answers made. We develop a prototype tool that implements the proposed method and apply it to two systems. The results demonstrate the feasibility of the method.

In the context of compressed sensing (CS), simultaneous orthogonal matching pursuit (SOMP) algorithm is an important iterative greedy algorithm for multiple measurement matrix vectors sharing the same non-zero locations. Restricted isometry property (RIP) of measurement matrix is an effective tool for analyzing the convergence of CS algorithms. Based on the RIP of measurement matrix, this paper shows that for the K-row sparse recovery, the restricted isometry constant (RIC) is improved to $delta_{K+1}< rac{sqrt{4K+1}-1}{2K}$ for SOMP algorithm. In addition, based on this RIC, this paper obtains sufficient conditions that ensure the convergence of SOMP algorithm in noisy case.

The major weakness of global navigation satellite system receivers is their vulnerability to intentional and unintentional interference. Frequency domain interference suppression (FDIS) technology is one of the most useful countermeasures. The pseudo-range measurement is unbiased after FDIS filtering given an ideal analog channel. However, with the influence of the analog modules used in RF front-end, the amplitude response and phase response of the channel equivalent filter are non-ideal, which bias the pseudo-range measurement after FDIS filtering and the bias varies along with the frequency of the interference. This paper proposes an unbiased interference suppression method based on signal estimation and spectrum compensation. The core idea is to use the parameters calculated from the tracking loop to estimate and reconstruct the desired signal. The estimated signal is filtered by the equivalent filter of actual channel, then it is used for compensating the spectrum loss caused by the FDIS method in the frequency domain. Simulations show that the proposed algorithm can reduce the pseudo-range measurement bias significantly, even for channels with asymmetrical group delay and multiple interference sources at any location.

In DNA data storage and computation, DNA strands are required to meet certain combinatorial constraints. This paper shows how some of these constraints can be achieved simultaneously. First, we use the algebraic structure of irreducible cyclic codes over finite fields to generate cyclic DNA codes that satisfy reverse and complement properties. We show how such DNA codes can meet constant guanine-cytosine content constraint by MacWilliams-Seery algorithm. Second, we consider fulfilling the run-length constraint in parallel with the above constraints, which allows a maximum predetermined number of consecutive duplicates of the same symbol in each DNA strand. Since irreducible cyclic codes can be represented in terms of the trace function over finite field extensions, the linearity of the trace function is used to fulfill a predefined run-length constraint. Thus, we provide an algorithm for constructing cyclic DNA codes with the above properties including run-length constraint. We show numerical examples to demonstrate our algorithms generating such a set of DNA strands with all the prescribed constraints.

Free/libre open source software (FLOSS) are being rapidly employed in several companies and organizations, because it can be modified and used for free. Hence, the use of FLOSS could contribute to its originally intended benefits and to the competence of its users. In this study, we analyzed the effect of using FLOSS on related competences. We investigated the change in the competences through an empirical study before and after the use of FLOSS among project participants. Consequently, it was confirmed that the competences of the participants improved after utilizing FLOSS.

In this letter, a construction of sparse measurement matrices is presented. Based on finite fields, a base matrix is obtained. Then a Hadamard matrix or a discrete Fourier transform (DFT) matrix is nested in the base matrix, which eventually formes a new deterministic measurement matrix. The coherence of the proposed matrices is low, which meets the Welch bound asymptotically. Thus these matrices could satisfy the restricted isometry property (RIP). Simulation results demonstrate that the proposed matrices give better performance than Gaussian counterparts.

Since the development of food diaries could enable people to develop healthy eating habits, food image recognition is in high demand to reduce the effort in food recording. Previous studies have worked on this challenging domain with datasets having fixed numbers of samples and classes. However, in the real-world setting, it is impossible to include all of the foods in the database because the number of classes of foods is large and increases continually. In addition to that, inter-class similarity and intra-class diversity also bring difficulties to the recognition. In this paper, we solve these problems by using deep convolutional neural network features to build a personalized classifier which incrementally learns the user's data and adapts to the user's eating habit. As a result, we achieved the state-of-the-art accuracy of food image recognition by the personalization of 300 food records per user.

We propose a class-incremental learning framework for human activity recognition based on the Bag-of-Sequencelets model (BoS). The framework updates learned models efficiently without having to relearn them when training data of new classes are added. In this framework, all types of features including hand-crafted features and Convolutional Neural Networks (CNNs) based features and combinations of those features can be used as features for videos. Compared with the original BoS, the new framework can reduce the learning time greatly with little loss of classification accuracy.

In compressive sensing theory (CS), the restricted isometry property (RIP) is commonly used for the measurement matrix to guarantee the reliable recovery of sparse signals from linear measurements. Although many works have indicated that random matrices with excellent recovery performance satisfy the RIP with high probability, Toeplitz-structured matrices arise naturally in real scenarios, such as applications of linear time-invariant systems. Thus, the corresponding measurement matrix can be modeled as a Toeplitz (partial) structured matrix instead of a completely random matrix. The structure characteristics introduce coherence and cause the performance degradation of the measurement matrix. To enhance the recovery performance of the Toeplitz structured measurement matrix in multichannel convolution source separation, an efficient construction of measurement matrix is presented, referred to as sparse random block-banded Toeplitz matrix (SRBT). The sparse signal is pre-randomized by locally scrambling its sample locations. Then, the signal is subsampled using the sparse random banded matrix. Finally, the mixing measurements are obtained. Based on the analysis of eigenvalues, the theoretical results indicate that the SRBT matrix satisfies the RIP with high probability. Simulation results show that the SRBT matrix almost matches the recovery performance of random matrices. Compared with the existing banded block Toeplitz matrix, SRBT significantly improves the probability of successful recovery. Additionally, SRBT has the advantages of low storage requirements and fast computation in reconstruction.

A propagation experiment on an actual channel is conducted to confirm the effectiveness of the 1-tap time domain beamforming (TDBF) technique we proposed in previous work. This technique offers simple beamforming for the millimeter waveband massive multiple-input multiple-output (MIMO) applied wireless backhaul and so supports the rapid deployment of fifth generation mobile communications (5G) small cells. This paper details propagation experiments in the 75GHz band and the characteristics evaluations of 1-tap TDBF as determined from actual channel measurements. The results show that 1-tap TDBF array gain nearly equals the frequency domain maximal ratio combining (MRC) value, which is ideal processing; the difference is within 0.5dB. In addition, 1-tap TDBF can improve on the signal-to-interference power ratio (SIR) by about 13% when space division multiplexing (SDM) is performed assuming existing levels of channel estimation error.

In this paper, a high-frequency resolution Digital Frequency Discriminator (DFD) IC using a Time to Digital Converter (TDC) and an edge counter for Instantaneous Frequency Measurement (IFM) is proposed. In the proposed DFD, the TDC measures the time of the maximum periods of divided RF short pulse signals, and the edge counter counts the maximum number of periods of the signal. By measuring the multiple periods with the TDC and the edge counter, the proposed DFD improves the frequency resolution compared with that of the measuring one period because it is proportional to reciprocal of the measurement time of TDC. The DFD was fabricated using 0.18-um SiGe-BiCMOS. Frequency accuracy below 0.39MHz and frequency precision below 1.58 MHz-RMS were achieved during 50 ns detection time in 0.3 GHz to 5.5 GHz band with the temperature range from -40 to 85 degrees.

In recent years, much research interest has developed in image enhancement and haze removal techniques. With increasing demand for real time enhancement and haze removal, the need for efficient architecture incorporating both haze removal and enhancement is necessary. In this paper, we propose an architecture supporting both real-time Retinex-based image enhancement and haze removal, using a single module. Efficiently leveraging the similarity between Retinex-based image enhancement and haze removal algorithms, we have successfully proposed an architecture supporting both using a single module. The implementation results reveal that just 1% logic circuits overhead is required to support Retinex-based image enhancement in single mode and haze removal based on Retinex model. This reduction in computation complexity by using a single module reduces the processing and memory implications especially in mobile consumer electronics, as opposed to implementing them individually using different modules. Furthermore, we utilize image enhancement for transmission map estimation instead of soft matting, thereby avoiding further computation complexity which would affect our goal of realizing high frame-rate real time processing. Our FPGA implementation, operating at an optimum frequency of 125MHz with 5.67M total block memory bit size, supports WUXGA (1,920×1,200) 60fps as well as 1080p60 color input. Our proposed design is competitive with existing state-of-the-art designs. Our proposal is tailored to enhance consumer electronic such as on-board cameras, active surveillance intrusion detection systems, autonomous cars, mobile streaming systems and robotics with low processing and memory requirements.

A Brillouin optical correlation domain reflectometry (BOCDR) system, which can set measuring point to arbitrary distance that is aligned in a random order along an optical fiber (i.e., random accessibility), is proposed to measure dynamic strain and experimentally evaluated. This random-access system can allocate measurement bandwidth to measuring point by assigning the measurement times at each measuring point of the total number of strain measurements. This assigned number is not always equally but as necessary for plural objects with different natural frequencies. To verify the system, strain of two vibrating objects with different natural frequencies was measured by one optical fiber which is attached to those objects. The system allocated appropriate measurement bandwidth to each object and simultaneously measured dynamic strain corresponding to the vibrating objects.

The central limit theorem (CLT) claims that the standardized sum of a random sequence converges in distribution to a normal random variable as the length tends to infinity. We prove the existence of a family of counterexamples to the CLT for d-tuplewise independent sequences of length n for all d=2,...,n-1. The proof is based on [n, k, d+1] binary linear codes. Our result implies that d-tuplewise independence is too weak to justify the CLT, even if the size d grows linearly in length n.

In this letter, a flexible and compatible with fine resolution radar frequency measurement receiver is designed. The receiver is implemented on the platform of Virtex-5 Field Programmable Grid Array (FPGA) from Xilinx. The Digital Down Conversion (DDC) without mixer based on polyphase filter has been successfully introduced in this receiver to obtain lower speed data flow and better resolution. This receiver can adapt to more modulation types and higher density of pulse flow, up to 200000 pulses per second. The measurement results indicate that the receiver is capable of detecting radar pulse signal of 0.2us to 2.5ms width with a major frequency root mean square error (RMSE) within 0.44MHz. Moreover, the wider pulse width and the higher decimation rate of DDC result in better performance. This frequency measurement receiver has been successfully used in a spaceborne radar system.

In this paper, a parallel flow monitoring technique that achieves accurate measurement of end-to-end delay of networks is proposed. In network monitoring tasks, network researchers and practitioners usually monitor multiple probe flows to measure delays on multiple paths in parallel. However, when they measure an end-to-end delay on a path, information of flows except for the flow along the path is not utilized in the conventional method. Generally, paths of flows share common parts in parallel monitoring. In the proposed method, information of flows on paths that share common parts, utilizes to measure delay on a path by partially converting the observation results of a flow to those of another flow. We perform simulations to confirm that the observation results of 72 parallel flows of active measurement are appropriately converted between each other. When the 99th-percentile of the end-to-end delay for each flow are measured, the accuracy of the proposed method is doubled compared with the conventional method.

This paper presents a method combining array signal processing and adaptive noise cancellation to suppress unwanted ambient interferences in in situ measurement of radiated emissions of equipment. First, the signals received by the antenna array are processed to form a main data channel and an auxiliary data channel. The main channel contains the radiated emissions of the equipment under test and the attenuated ambient interferences. The auxiliary channel only contains the attenuated ambient interferences. Then, the adaptive noise cancellation technique is used to suppress the ambient interferences based on the correlation of the interferences in the main and auxiliary channels. The proposed method overcomes the problem that the ambient interferences in the two channels of the virtual chamber method are not correlated, and realizes the suppression of multi-source ambient noises in the use of fewer array elements. The results of simulation and experiment show that the proposed method can effectively extract radiated emissions of the equipment under test in complex electromagnetic environment. Finally, discussions on the effect of the beam width of the main channel and the generalization of the proposed method to three dimensionally distributed signals are addressed.
