The Nyquist folding receiver (NYFR) is a novel analog-to-information architecture, which can achieve wideband receiving with a small amount of system resource. The NYFR uses a radio frequency (RF) non-uniform sampling to realize wideband receiving, and the practical RF non-uniform sample pulse train usually contains an aperture. Therefore, it is necessary to investigate the aperture impact on the NYFR output. In this letter, based on the NYFR output signal to noise ratio (SNR), the aperture impact on the NYFR is analyzed. Focusing on the aperture impact, the corresponding NYFR output signal power and noise power are given firstly. Then, the relation between the aperture and the output SNR is analyzed. In addition, the output SNR distribution containing the aperture is investigated. Finally, combing with a parameter estimation method, several simulations are conducted to prove the theoretical aperture impact.

This paper shows structural optimal design of optical waveguide components utilizing an efficient 3D frequency-domain and 2D time-domain beam propagation method (BPM) with an alternating direction implicit (ADI) scheme. Usual optimal design procedure is based on iteration of numerical simulation, and total computational cost of the optimal design mainly depends on the efficiency of numerical analysis method. Since the system matrices are tridiagonal in the ADI-based BPM, efficient analysis and optimal design are available. Shape and topology optimal design shown in this paper is based on optimization of density distribution and sensitivity analysis to the density parameters. Computational methods of the sensitivity are shown in the case of using the 3D semi-vectorial and 2D time-domain BPM based on ADI scheme. The validity of this design approach is shown by design of optical waveguide components: mode converters, and a polarization beam splitter.

In a 1-out-of-n oblivious signature scheme, a user provides a set of messages to a signer for signatures but he/she can only obtain a valid signature for a specific message chosen from the message set. There are two security requirements for 1-out-of-n oblivious signature. The first is ambiguity, which requires that the signer is not aware which message among the set is signed. The other one is unforgeability which requires that the user is not able to derive any other valid signature for any messages beyond the one that he/she has chosen. In this paper, we provide a generic construction of 1-out-of-n oblivious signature. Our generic construction consists of two building blocks, a commitment scheme and a standard signature scheme. Our construction is round efficient since it only asks one interaction (i.e., two rounds) between the user and signer. Meanwhile, in our construction, the ambiguity of the 1-out-of-n oblivious signature scheme is based on the hiding property of the underlying commitment, while the unforgeability is based on the binding property of the underlying commitment scheme and the unforgeability of the underlying signature scheme. Moreover, our construction can also enjoy strong unforgeability as long as the underlying building blocks have strong binding property and strong unforgeability respectively. Given the fact that commitment and digital signature are well-studied topics in cryptography and numerous concrete schemes have been proposed in the standard model, our generic construction immediately yields a bunch of instantiations in the standard model based on well-known assumptions, including not only traditional assumptions like Decision Diffie-Hellman (DDH), Decision Composite Residue (DCR), etc., but also some post-quantum assumption like Learning with Errors (LWE). As far as we know, our construction admits the first 1-out-of-n oblivious signature schemes based on the standard model.

Federated learning is a promising strategy for indoor localization that can reduce the labor cost of constructing a fingerprint dataset in a distributed training manner without privacy disclosure. However, the traffic generated during the whole training process of federated learning is a burden on the up-and-down link, which leads to huge energy consumption for mobile devices. Moreover, the non-independent and identically distributed (Non-IID) problem impairs the global localization performance during the federated learning. This paper proposes a communication-efficient FedAvg method for federated indoor localization which is improved by the layerwise asynchronous aggregation strategy and layerwise swapping training strategy. Energy efficiency can be improved by performing asynchronous aggregation between the model layers to reduce the traffic cost in the training process. Moreover, the impact of the Non-IID problem on the localization performance can be mitigated by performing swapping training on the deep layers. Extensive experimental results show that the proposed methods reduce communication traffic and improve energy efficiency significantly while mitigating the impact of the Non-IID problem on the precision of localization.

This paper presents a channel operating margin (COM) based high-speed serial link optimization using machine learning (ML). COM that is proposed for evaluating serial link is calculated at first and during the calculation several important equalization parameters corresponding to the best configuration are extracted which can be used for the ML modeling of serial link. Then a deep neural network containing hidden layers are investigated to model a whole serial link equalization including transmitter feed forward equalizer (FFE), receiver continuous time linear equalizer (CTLE) and decision feedback equalizer (DFE). By training, validating and testing a lot of samples that meet the COM specification of 400GAUI-8 C2C, an effective ML model is generated and the maximum relative error is only 0.1 compared with computation results. At last 3 link configurations are discussed from the view of tradeoff between the link performance and cost, illustrating that our COM based ML modeling method can be applied to advanced serial link design for NRZ, PAM4 or even other higher level pulse amplitude modulation signal.

Aggregate signature schemes enable us to aggregate multiple signatures into a single short signature. One of its typical applications is sensor networks, where a large number of users and devices measure their environments, create signatures to ensure the integrity of the measurements, and transmit their signed data. However, if an invalid signature is mixed into aggregation, the aggregate signature becomes invalid, thus if an aggregate signature is invalid, it is necessary to identify the invalid signature. Furthermore, we need to deal with a situation where an invalid sensor generates invalid signatures probabilistically. In this paper, we introduce a model of aggregate signature schemes with interactive tracing functionality that captures such a situation, and define its functional and security requirements and propose aggregate signature schemes that can identify all rogue sensors. More concretely, based on the idea of Dynamic Traitor Tracing, we can trace rogue sensors dynamically and incrementally, and eventually identify all rogue sensors of generating invalid signatures even if the rogue sensors adaptively collude. In addition, the efficiency of our proposed method is also sufficiently practical.

Recently, the adoption of the industrial Internet of things (IIoT) has optimized many industrial sectors and promoted industry “smartization.” Smart factories and smart industries connect the real and virtual worlds through cyber-physical systems (CPS). However, these linkages will increase the cyber security danger surface to new levels, putting millions of dollars' worth of assets at risk if communications in big network systems like IIoT settings are left unsecured. To solve these problems, the fundamental method is security, such as authentication and confidentiality, and it should require the encryption key. However, it is challenging the security performance with the limited performance of the sensor. Blockchain-based identity management is emerging for lightweight, integrity and persistence. However, the key generation and management issues of blockchain face the same security performance issues. First, through blockchain smart contracts and hierarchical deterministic (HD) wallets, hierarchical key derivation efficiently distributes and manages keys by line and group in the IIoT environment. Second, the pairing verification value based on an elliptic curve single point called Root Signature performs efficient public key certificate registration and verification and improves the key storage space. Third, the identity log recorded through the blockchain is the global transparency of the key lifecycle, providing system reliability from various security attacks. Keyless Signature Infrastructure (KSI) is adopted to perform efficiently via hash-based scheme (hash calendar, hash tree etc.). We analyze our framework compared to hash-based state commitment methods. Accordingly, our method achieves a calculation efficiency of O(nlog N) and a storage space saving of 60% compared to the existing schemes.

Domain knowledge is useful to improve the generalization performance of learning machines. Sign constraints are a handy representation to combine domain knowledge with learning machine. In this paper, we consider constraining the signs of the weight coefficients in learning the linear support vector machine, and develop an optimization algorithm for minimizing the empirical risk under the sign constraints. The algorithm is based on the Frank-Wolfe method that also converges sublinearly and possesses a clear termination criterion. We show that each iteration of the Frank-Wolfe also requires O(nd+d2) computational cost. Furthermore, we derive the explicit expression for the minimal iteration number to ensure an ε-accurate solution by analyzing the curvature of the objective function. Finally, we empirically demonstrate that the sign constraints are a promising technique when similarities to the training examples compose the feature vector.

This paper aims to design multiple-input multiple-output (MIMO) radar receiving weights and transmitting waveforms, in order to obtain better spatial filtering performance and enhance the robustness in the case of signal-dependent interference and jointly inaccurate estimated angles of target and interference. Generally, an alternate iterative optimization algorithm is proposed for the joint design problem. Specifically, the receiving weights are designed by the generalized eigenvalue decomposition of the matrix which contains the estimated information of the target and interference. As the cost function of the transmitting waveform design is fractional, the fractional optimization problem is first converted into a secondary optimization problem. Based on the proposed algorithm, a closed-form solution of the waveform is given using the alternating projection. At the analysis stage, in the presence of estimated errors under the environment of signal-dependent interference, a robust signal-to-interference and noise ratio (SINR) performance is obtained using a small amount of calculation with an iterative procedure. Numerical examples verify the effectiveness of the performances of the designed waveform in terms of the SINR, beampattern and pulse compression.

In order to further reduce the transmission rate of multi-channel satellite broadcast signals, whose carrier-to-noise ratio (CNR fluctuates due to rainfall attenuation, we propose a novel digitized radio-over-fiber (DRoF) -based optical re-transmission system based on adaptive combination compression for ultra-high definition (UHD) broadcasting satellite (BS)/communications satellite (CS) broadcast signals. The proposed system reduces the optical re-transmission rate of BS/CS signals as much as possible while handling input CNR fluctuations. Therefore, the transmission rate of communication signals in time-division multiplexing (TDM) transmission is ensured, and network sharing of communication signals and broadcast signals via passive optical network (PON) is realized. Based on the ITU-R P.618-13 prediction model, an experimental evaluation is performed using estimates of the long-term statistics of attenuation due to rainfall. The attenuation is evaluated as a percentage of the time that long-term re-transmission service is available. It is shown that the proposed system is able to accommodate a wide range of rainfall attenuation and achieve a 99.988% time percentage for the duration of service provision. In order to show the rate reduction effect of the proposed system, the quantization bit reduction effect as a function of the input CNR, which depends on rainfall attenuation, is experimentally confirmed. Experiments show that service operation time of 99.978% can be achieved by 3-bit transmission. This means a 62.5% reduction in transmission rate is realized compared to conventional fixed quantization. Furthermore, the average quantization bit number in our system for service operation times is 3.000, indicating that most service operation times are covered by just 3-bit transmission.

This paper proposes a novel interference cancellation technique that prevents radio receivers from degrading due to periodic interference signals caused by electromagnetic waves emitted from high power circuits. The proposed technique cancels periodic interference signals in the frequency domain, even if the periodic interference signals drift in the time domain. We propose a drift estimation based on a super resolution technique such as ESPRIT. Moreover, we propose a sequential drift estimation to enhance the drift estimation performance. The proposed technique employs a linear filter based on the minimum mean square error criterion with assistance of the estimated drifts for the interference cancellation. The performance of the proposed technique is confirmed by computer simulation. The proposed technique achieves a gain of more than 40dB at the higher frequency part in the band. The proposed canceler achieves such superior performance, if the parameter sets are carefully selected. The proposed sequential drift estimation relaxes the parameter constraints, and enables the proposed cancellation to achieve the performance upper bound.

The performance of conventional direction of arrival (DOA) methods is susceptible to the uncertainty of acoustic velocity in the underwater environment. To solve this problem, an underwater DOA estimation method with L-shaped array for wide-band signals under unknown acoustic velocity is proposed in this paper. The proposed method refers to the idea of incoherent signal subspace method and Root-MUSIC to obtain two sets of average roots corresponding to the subarray of the L-shaped array. And the geometric relationship between two vertical linear arrays is employed to derive the expression of DOA estimation with respect to the two average roots. The acoustic velocity variable in the DOA estimation expression can be eliminated in the proposed method. The simulation results demonstrate that the proposed method is more accurate and robust than other methods in an unknown acoustic velocity environment.

This paper presents a novel blind signal separation method for the measurement of pulse waves at multiple body positions using an array radar system. The proposed method is based on a mathematical model of pulse wave propagation. The model relies on three factors: (1) a small displacement approximation, (2) beam pattern orthogonality, and (3) an impulse response model of pulse waves. The separation of radar echoes is formulated as an optimization problem, and the associated objective function is established using the mathematical model. We evaluate the performance of the proposed method using measured radar data from participants lying in a prone position. The accuracy of the proposed method, in terms of estimating the body displacements, is measured using reference data taken from laser displacement sensors. The average estimation errors are found to be 10-21% smaller than those of conventional methods. These results indicate the effectiveness of the proposed method for achieving noncontact measurements of the displacements of multiple body positions.

Currently, wireless power transmission technology is being developed for capsule endoscopes. By removing the battery, the capsule endoscope is miniaturized, the number of images that can be taken increases, and the risk of harmful substances leaking from the battery when it is damaged inside the body is avoided. Furthermore, diagnostic accuracy is improved by adjusting the directivity of radio waves according to the position of the capsule endoscope to improve efficiency and adjusting the number of images to be taken according to position by real-time position estimation. In this study, we report the result of position estimation in a high-definition numerical human body model and in an experiment on an electromagnetic phantom.

Optical phase conjugation (OPC) is an all-optical signal processing technique for mitigating fiber nonlinearity and is promising for building cost-efficient fiber networks with few optic-electric-optic conversions and long amplification spacing. In lumped amplified systems, OPC has a little nonlinearity mitigation efficiency for nonlinear distortion induced by cross-phase modulation (XPM) due to the asymmetry of power and chromatic dispersion (CD) maps during propagation in transmission fiber. In addition, the walk-off of XPM-induced noise becomes small due to the CD compensation effect of OPC, so the deterministic nonlinear distortion increases. Therefore, lumped amplified transmission systems with OPC are more sensitive to channel spacing than conventional systems. In this paper, we show the channel spacing dependence of NZ-DSF transmission using amplification repeater with OPC. Numerical simulations show comprehensive characteristics between channel spacing and CD in a 100-Gbps/λ WDM signal. An experimental verification using periodically poled LiNbO3-based OPC is also performed. These results suggest that channel spacing design is more important in OPC-assisted systems than in conventional dispersion-unmanaged systems.

This paper proposes two accurate source-number estimation methods for array antennas and multi-input multi-output radar. Direction of arrival (DOA) estimation is important in high-speed wireless communication and radar imaging. Most representative DOA estimation methods require the source-number information in advance and often fail to estimate DOAs in severe environments such as those having low signal-to-noise ratio or large transmission-power difference. Received signals are often bandlimited or narrowband signals, so the proposed methods first involves denoising preprocessing by removing undesired components then comparing the original and denoised signal information. The performances of the proposed methods were evaluated through computer simulations.

This paper presents a design method of a two-hop wireless power transfer (WPT) system for installing on a robot arm. The class-E inverter and the class-D rectifier are used on the transmission and receiving sides, respectively, in the proposed WPT system. Analytical equations for the proposed WPT system are derived as functions of the geometrical and physical parameters of the coils, such as the outer diameter and height of the coils, winding-wire diameter, and number of turns. Using the analytical equations, we can optimize the WPT system to obtain the design values with the theoretically highest power-delivery efficiency under the size limitation of the robot arm. The circuit experiments are in quantitative agreement with the theoretical predictions obtained from the analysis, indicating the validity of the analysis and design method. The experimental prototype achieved 83.6% power-delivery efficiency at 6.78MHz operating frequency and 39.3W output power.
