In this paper, we consider an orthogonal frequency division multiple access (OFDMA)-based multiuser full-duplex wireless powered communication network (FD WPCN) system with beamforming (BF) at an energy transmitter (ET). The ET performs BF to efficiently transmit energy to multiple users while suppressing interference to an information receiver (IR). Multiple users operating in full-duplex mode harvest energy from the signals sent by the ET while simultaneously transmitting information to the IR using the harvested energy. We analytically demonstrate that the FD WPCN is superior to its half-duplex (HD) WPCN counterpart in the high-SNR regime. We propose a transmitter design method that maximizes the sum rate by determining the BF at the ET, power allocation at both the ET and users, and sub-band allocation. Simulation results show the effectiveness of the proposed method.

Radar-based sensing and concealed weapon detection technologies have been attracting attention as a measure to enhance security screening in public facilities and various venues. For these applications, the security check must be performed without impeding the flow of people, with minimum human effort, and in a non-contact manner. We developed technologies for a high-throughput walk-through security screening called Invisible Sensing (IVS) and implemented them in a prototype system. The IVS system consists of dual planar radar panels facing each other and carries out an inspection based on a multi-region screening approach as a person walks between the panels. Our imaging technology constructs a high-quality radar image that compensates for motion blur caused by a person's walk. Our detection technology takes multi-view projected images across the multiple regions as input to enable real-time whole-body screening. The IVS system runs its functions by pipeline processing to achieve real-time screening operation. This paper presents our IVS system along with these key technologies and demonstrates its empirical performance.

This paper mainly proposes a line segment detection method based on pseudo peak suppression and local Hough transform, which has good noise resistance and can solve the problems of short line segment missing detection, false detection, and oversegmentation. In addition, in response to the phenomenon of uneven development in nuclear emulsion tomographic images, this paper proposes an image preprocessing process that uses the “Difference of Gaussian” method to reduce noise and then uses the standard deviation of the gray value of each pixel to bundle and unify the gray value of each pixel, which can robustly obtain the linear features in these images. The tests on the actual dataset of nuclear emulsion tomographic images and the public YorkUrban dataset show that the proposed method can effectively improve the accuracy of convolutional neural network or vision in transformer-based event classification for alpha-decay events in nuclear emulsion. In particular, the line segment detection method in the proposed method achieves optimal results in both accuracy and processing speed, which also has strong generalization ability in high quality natural images.

In this paper, we propose a low-complexity and accurate noise suppression based on an a priori SNR (Speech to Noise Ratio) model for greater robustness w.r.t. short-term noise-fluctuation. The a priori SNR, the ratio of speech spectra and noise spectra in the spectral domain, represents the difference between speech features and noise features in the feature domain, including the mel-cepstral domain and the logarithmic power spectral domain. This is because logarithmic operations are used for domain conversions. Therefore, an a priori SNR model can easily be expressed in terms of the difference between the speech model and the noise model, which are modeled by the Gaussian mixture models, and it can be generated with low computational cost. By using a priori SNRs accurately estimated on the basis of an a priori SNR model, it is possible to calculate accurate coefficients of noise suppression filters taking into account the variance of noise, without serious increase in computational cost over that of a conventional model-based Wiener filter (MBW). We have conducted in-car speech recognition evaluation using the CENSREC-2 database, and a comparison of the proposed method with a conventional MBW showed that the recognition error rate for all noise environments was reduced by 9%, and that, notably, that for audio-noise environments was reduced by 11%. We show that the proposed method can be processed with low levels of computational and memory resources through implementation on a digital signal processor.

Uncovered muck truck detection aims to detect the muck truck and distinguish whether it is covered or not by dust-proof net to trace the source of pollution. Unlike traditional detection problem, recalling all uncovered trucks is more important than accurate locating for pollution traceability. When two objects are very close in an image, the occluded object may not be recalled because the non-maximum suppression (NMS) algorithm can remove the overlapped proposal. To address this issue, we propose a Location First NMS method to match the ground truth boxes and predicted boxes by position rather than class identifier (ID) in the training stage. Firstly, a box matching method is introduced to re-assign the predicted box ID using the closest ground truth one, which can avoid object missing when the IoU of two proposals is greater than the threshold. Secondly, we design a loss function to adapt the proposed algorithm. Thirdly, a uncovered muck truck detection system is designed using the method in a real scene. Experiment results show the effectiveness of the proposed method.

This paper proposes a topology of high power, MHz-frequency, half-bridge resonant inverter ideal for low-loss Gallium Nitride high electron mobility transistor (GaN-HEMT). General GaN-HEMTs have drawback of low drain-source breakdown voltage. This property has prevented conventional high-frequency series resonant inverters from delivering high power to high resistance loads such as 50Ω, which is typically used in radio frequency (RF) systems. High resistance load causes hard-switching also and reduction of power efficiency. The proposed topology overcomes these difficulties by utilizing a proposed ‘L-S network’. This network is effective combination of a simple impedance converter and a series resonator. The proposed topology provides not only high power for high resistance load but also arbitrary design of output wattage depending on impedance conversion design. In addition, the current through the series resonator is low in the L-S network. Hence, this series resonator can be designed specifically for harmonic suppression with relatively high quality-factor and zero reactance. Low-distortion sinusoidal 3kW output is verified in the proposed inverter at 13.56MHz by computer simulations. Further, 99.4% high efficiency is achieved in the power circuit in 471W experimental prototype.

This paper details the design of a plate that controls the beam direction in an aperture array excited by a waveguide 2-plane hybrid coupler. The beam direction can be controlled in the range of ±15-32deg. in the quasi H-plane, and ±26-54deg. in the quasi E-plane at the design frequency of 66.425GHz. Inductive irises are introduced into tapered waveguides in the plate and the reflection is suppressed by narrow apertures. A plate that has a larger tilt angle in the quasi E-plane and another plate with conventional rectangular waveguide ports as a reference are fabricated and measured. The measured values agree well with the simulation results.

The current best solution is dynamic changed for each whale agent to overcome premature with local optima in iteration. A hybrid crossover operator is embedded in original algorithm to improve the convergence accuracy of solution. Moreover, the flow of population updating is optimized to balance the exploitation and exploration ability. The modified algorithm is tested on a 28 elements uniform linear antenna array to reduce its side lobe lever and null depth lever. The simulation results show that MWOA algorithm can improve the performance of WOA obviously compared with other algorithms.

Hum noise such as power line interference is one of the critical problems in the biomedical signal acquisition. Various techniques have been proposed to suppress power line interference. However, some of the techniques require more components and power consumption. The notch depth in the conventional N-path notch filter circuits needs a higher number of paths and switches off-resistance. It makes the conventional N-path notch filter less of efficiency to suppress hum noise. This work proposed the new N-path notch filter to hum noise suppression in biomedical signal acquisition. The new N-path notch filter achieved notch depth above 40dB with sampling frequency 50Hz and 60Hz. Although the proposed circuits use less number of path and switches off-resistance. The proposed circuit has been verified using artificial ECG signal contaminated by hum noise at frequency 50Hz and 60Hz. The output of N-path notch filter achieved a noise-free signal even if the sampling frequency changes.

The major weakness of global navigation satellite system receivers is their vulnerability to intentional and unintentional interference. Frequency domain interference suppression (FDIS) technology is one of the most useful countermeasures. The pseudo-range measurement is unbiased after FDIS filtering given an ideal analog channel. However, with the influence of the analog modules used in RF front-end, the amplitude response and phase response of the channel equivalent filter are non-ideal, which bias the pseudo-range measurement after FDIS filtering and the bias varies along with the frequency of the interference. This paper proposes an unbiased interference suppression method based on signal estimation and spectrum compensation. The core idea is to use the parameters calculated from the tracking loop to estimate and reconstruct the desired signal. The estimated signal is filtered by the equivalent filter of actual channel, then it is used for compensating the spectrum loss caused by the FDIS method in the frequency domain. Simulations show that the proposed algorithm can reduce the pseudo-range measurement bias significantly, even for channels with asymmetrical group delay and multiple interference sources at any location.

This paper presents an interference suppression and signal restoration technique that can create the clean signals required by automotive frequency-modulated continuous wave radar systems. When a radar signal from another radar system interferes with own transmitted radar signal, the target detection performance is degraded. This is because the beat frequency corresponding to the target cannot be estimated owing to the increase in the noise floor. In this case, advanced weighted-envelope normalization or wavelet denoising can be used to mitigate the effect of the interference; however, these methods can also lead to the loss of the desired signal containing the range and velocity information of the target. Therefore, we propose a method based on an autoregressive model to restore a signal damaged by mutual interference. The method uses signals that are not influenced by the interference to restore the signal. In experiments conducted using two different automotive radar systems, our proposed method is demonstrated to effectively suppress the interference and restore the desired signal. As a result, the noise floor resulting from the mutual interference was lowered and the beat frequency corresponding to the desired target was accurately estimated.

When trying to estimate time-varying multipath channels by applying a basis expansion model (BEM) in orthogonal frequency division multiplexing (OFDM) systems, pilot clusters are contaminated by inter-carrier interference (ICI). The pilot cluster ICI (PC-ICI) degrades the estimation accuracy of BEM coefficients, which degrades system performance. In this paper, a PC-ICI suppression scheme is proposed, in which two coded symbols defined as weighted sums of data symbols are inserted on both sides of each pilot cluster. Under the assumption that the channel has Flat Doppler spectrum, the optimized weight coefficients are obtained by an alternating iterative optimization algorithm, so that the sum of the PC-ICI generated by the encoded symbols and the data symbols is minimized. By approximating the optimized weight coefficients, they are independent of the channel tap power. Furthermore, it is verified that the proposed scheme is robust to the estimation error of the normalized Doppler frequency offset and can be applied to channels with other types of Doppler spectra. Numerical simulation results show that, compared with the conventional schemes, the proposed scheme achieves significant improvements in the performance of PC-ICI suppression, channel estimation and system bit-error-ratio (BER).

Saliency detection for videos has been paid great attention and extensively studied in recent years. However, various visual scene with complicated motions leads to noticeable background noise and non-uniformly highlighting the foreground objects. In this paper, we proposed a video saliency detection model using spatio-temporal cues. In spatial domain, the location of foreground region is utilized as spatial cue to constrain the accumulation of contrast for background regions. In temporal domain, the spatial distribution of motion-similar regions is adopted as temporal cue to further suppress the background noise. Moreover, a backward matching based temporal prediction method is developed to adjust the temporal saliency according to its corresponding prediction from the previous frame, thus enforcing the consistency along time axis. The performance evaluation on several popular benchmark data sets validates that our approach outperforms existing state-of-the-arts.

In small-aperture high frequency surface wave radar, the main-lobe clutter all can be seen as a more severe space spread clutter under the influence of the smaller array aperture. It compromises the detection performance of moving vessels, especially when the target is submerged in the clutter. To tackle this issue, an improved spread clutter estimated canceller, combining spread clutter estimated canceller, adaptive selection strategy of the optimal training samples and rotating spatial beam method, is presented to suppress main-lobe clutter in both angle domain and range domain. According to the experimental results, the proposed algorithm is shown to have far superior clutter suppression performance based on the real data.

The spectrum sculpting precoder (SSP) is a precoding scheme for sidelobe suppression of frequency division multiplexing (OFDM) signals. It can form deep spectral notches at chosen frequencies and is suitable for cognitive radio systems. However, the SSP degrades the error rate as the number of notched frequencies increases. Orthogonal precoding that improves the SSP can achieve both spectrum notching and the ideal error rate, but its computational complexity is very high since the precoder matrix is large in size. This paper proposes an effective and equivalent decomposition of the precoder matrix by QR-decomposition in order to reduce the computational complexity of orthogonal precoding. Numerical experiments show that the proposed method can drastically reduce the computational complexity with no performance degradation.

This paper demonstrates the suppressing power of 10 Gbps On Off keyed signal using biased half-wave rectification. Authors have previously reported that radio frequency (RF) and optical on-off keying (OOK) signal can be simultaneously transmitted over the radio over fiber (RoF) link [1]. Since the optical OOK signal has much broader bandwidth compared to RF signal, it interferes with RF signal. Reference [1] experimentally shows that the optical OOK signal degrades the RF signal in terms of signal-to-noise power ratio (SNR) when 10 Gbps OOK and 1.9 GHz microwave are employed as baseband and RF, respectively. This paper proposes an interference suppression, and the proposal is subsequently used for detecting the RF signal. Experiments are conducted for the purpose of the proof-of-concept of the proposal. Finally numerical simulations are employed to show the performance enhancement in terms of error vector magnitude (EVM).

The analysis and design of a full 360 degrees hybrid coupler phase shifter with integrated distributed elements low pass filters is presented. Pi-section filter is incorporated into hybrid coupler phase shifter for harmonic suppression. The physical size of the proposed structure is close to that of the conventional hybrid coupler phase shifter. The maximum phase shift range is bounded by the port impedance ratio of the hybrid coupler phase shifter. Furthermore, the phase shift range is reduced if series inductance in the reflective load deviates from the optimum value. Numerical and parametric analyses are used to find the equivalent circuit of the pi-section filter for consistent relative phase shift. To validate our analysis, the proposed phase shifter operates at 8.6GHz was fabricated and measured. Over the frequency range of interest, the fabricated phase shifter suppresses second harmonic and achieves analog phase shift of 0 to 360 degrees at the passband, agreeing with the theoretical and simulation results.

To suppress intercell interference for three-cell half-duplex relay systems, joint interference suppression and multiuser detection (MUD) schemes that estimate weight coefficients by the recursive least-squares (RLS) algorithm have been proposed but show much worse bit error rate (BER) performance than maximum likelihood detection (MLD). To improve the BER performance, this paper proposes a joint interference suppression and MUD scheme that estimates the weight coefficients by eigenvalue decomposition. The proposed scheme carries the same advantages as the conventional RLS based schemes; it does not need channel state information (CSI) feedback while incurring much less amount of computational complexity than MLD. In addition, it needs to know only two out of three preambles used in the system. Computer simulations of orthogonal frequency-division multiplexing (OFDM) transmission under three-cell and frequency selective fading conditions are conducted. It is shown that the eigendecomposition-based scheme overwhelmingly outperforms the conventional RLS-based scheme although requiring higher computational complexity.

This paper introduces distributed array antenna (DAA) systems that offer high antenna gain. A DAA consists of several small antennas with improved antenna gain. This paper proposes a technique that suppresses the off-axis undesired radiation and compensates the time delay by combining signal processing with optimization of array element positioning. It suppresses the undesired radiation by compensating the delay timing with high accuracy and deliberately generating the inter-symbol interference (ISI) in side-lobe directions. Computer simulations show its effective suppression of the equivalent isotropic radiated power (EIRP) pattern and its excellent BER performance.

In this paper, the recent advances in cooperative distributed antenna transmission (CDAT) are introduced for spatial diversity and multi-user spatial multiplexing in 5G mobile communications network. CDAT is an advanced version of the coordinated multi-point (CoMP) transmission. Space-time block coded transmit diversity (STBC-TD) for spatial diversity and minimum mean square error filtering combined with singular value decomposition (MMSE-SVD) for multi-user spatial multiplexing are described under the presence of co-channel interference from adjacent macro-cells. Blind selected mapping (blind SLM) which requires no side information transmission is introduced in order to suppress the increased peak-to-average signal power ratio (PAPR) of the transmit signals when CDAT is applied. Some computer simulation results are presented to confirm the effectiveness of CDAT techniques.
