  • Scan-Based Side-Channel Attack on the LED Block Cipher Using Scan Signatures

    LED (Light Encryption Device) block cipher, one of lightweight block ciphers, is very compact in hardware. Its encryption process is composed of AES-like rounds. Recently, a scan-based side-channel attack is reported which retrieves the secret information inside the cryptosystem utilizing scan chains, one of design-for-test techniques. In this paper, a scan-based attack method on the LED block cipher using scan signatures is proposed. In our proposed method, we focus on a particular 16-bit position in scanned data obtained from an LED LSI chip and retrieve its secret key using scan signatures. Experimental results show that our proposed method successfully retrieves its 64-bit secret key using 36 plaintexts on average if the scan chain is only connected to the LED block cipher. These experimental results also show the key is successfully retrieved even if the scan chain includes additional 130,000 1-bit data.

    This paper presents a design of the software and hardware modules of an embedded board with both a sensor and an interface circuit which not only control home light-emitting diode (LED) lighting appliances but also reduce their differences in brightness caused by luminous decay. This design consists of four parts: an automatically adjusted LED driver, environment illumination detection, a wireless remote control unit and an automatic brightness control.

    In this paper, the H2/H∞ control problem for a class of stochastic discrete-time linear systems with state-, control-, and external-disturbance-dependent noise or (x, u, v)-dependent noise involving multiple decision makers is investigated. It is shown that the conditions for the existence of a strategy are given by the solvability of cross-coupled stochastic algebraic Riccati equations (CSAREs). Some algorithms for solving these equations are discussed. Moreover, weakly-coupled large-scale stochastic systems are considered as an important application, and some illustrative examples are provided to demonstrate the effectiveness of the proposed decision strategies.

    This paper presents an experimental investigation on the RF characteristics of a 3W-class cryogenically-cooled receiver amplifier employing a gallium-nitride high electron mobility transistor (GaN HEMT) with a blue light for mobile base stations. In general, a cryogenically-cooled receiver amplifier using a GaN HEMT exhibits unstable DC characteristics similar to those found in the current collapse phenomenon because the GaN HEMT loses thermal energy at cryogenic temperatures. The fabricated cryogenically-cooled receiver amplifier achieves stable DC characteristics by injecting blue light into the GaN HEMT instead of thermal energy. Experimental results show that the amplifier achieves fine stable DC characteristics for deviation in the drain-source current from 42% to 5% and RF characteristics for a maximum power added efficiency from 58% to 68% without and with the blue light at 60,K. The fabricated amplifier is effective in reducing the power consumption at cryogenic temperatures. To the best of our knowledge, this paper is the first report regarding RF characteristics of a cryogenically-cooled receiver amplifier using a blue light for mobile base stations.

    This paper presents a printed circuit board (PCB) integrated multi-layered strip line tandem coupler, which used simple compensating ground through-hole (GTH) elements. The GTH elements on one end of the coupled line can generate additional capacitance between the signal line and the ground, which effectively compensates for the parasitic capacitance around the crossed signal lines on the opposite end of the coupled line. It has been experimentally demonstrated that the proposed coupler fabricated for the X-band is effective to improve both the reflection and the isolation characteristics.

    To implement a wideband bandpass filter with improved skirt-selectivity and out-band characteristics, a new parallel-coupled three-line unit with two short-circuited stubs symmetrically-loaded at the center line is proposed. Unlike most traditional ones, the passband of the proposed parallel-coupled three-line structure is based on the cross-coupling between non-adjacent lines rather than the direct-coupling between adjacent ones, whereas a pair of attenuation poles is found in the stopbands. After revealing its work mechanism, an efficient filter-design-scheme is correspondingly proposed for the presented structure. Firstly, based on a chebyshev-filter synthesis theory, a wideband passband filter consisting of a parallel-coupled two-line and two short-circuited stubs loaded at the input- and output- ports is designed. Furthermore, by putting a properly-designed 3/4-wavelength stepped-impedance resonator (SIR) in between the parallel-coupled two lines, two attenuation poles are then realized at the frequencies very close to the cutoff ones. Accordingly, the roll-off characteristics of the filter are significantly-improved to greater than 100,dB/GHz. Furthermore, two-section open-ended stubs are used to replace the short-circuited ones to realize a pair of extra attenuation poles in stopbands. To validate the proposed techniques, a wideband filter with a bandwidth of 3--5,GHz (Fractional bandwidth (FBW) $= (5,GHz-3,GHz)/4,GHz =50%)$ was designed, simulated, fabricated and measured. The measured responses of the filter agree well with the simulation and theoretical ones, which validates the effectiveness of the newly-proposed three-line unit and the corresponding design scheme.

    A queue layout of a graph G consists of a linear order of its vertices, and a partition of its edges into queues, such that no two edges in the same queue are nested. The queuenumber qn(G) is the minimum number of queues required in a queue layout of G. The Cartesian product of two graphs G1 = (V1,E1) and G2 = (V2,E2), denoted by G1 × G2, is the graph with {:v1 ∈ V1 and v2 ∈ V2} as its vertex set and an edge (,) belongs to G1×G2 if and only if either (u1,v1) ∈ E1 and u2 = v2 or (u2,v2) ∈ E2 and u1 = v1. In this paper, we deal with queue layouts of toroidal grids and show the following bound: qn(Tk1,k2,...,kn) ≤ 2n-2 if n ≥ 2 and ki ≥ 3 for all i = 1,2,...,n. In particular, for n = 2 and k1,k2 ≥ 3, we acquire qn(Tk1,k2) = 2. Recently, Pai et al. (Inform. Process. Lett. 110 (2009) pp.50-56) showed that qn(Qnk) ≤ 2n-1 if n ≥1 and k ≥9. Thus, our result improves the bound of qn(Qnk) when n ≥2 and k ≥9.

    An RGB-LED driver with a pulse-skipping-modulation boost converter is proposed to fix the reference voltage for lowering down the circuit complexity. A high-voltage LDO and a bandgap reference circuit are built into the chip. The proposed converter outputs a different voltage in response to a different color of LEDs. The output voltages for driving six red, six green, and six blue LEDs in series are 13.5V, 20V, and 21.5V, respectively. The proposed LDO and bandgap reference circuit work with supply voltages from 8V to 12V. The settling time for changing colors is lower than 300µs, better than the unfixed-reference-voltage methods. The proposed circuit was fabricated by using 0.25-µm BCD 60V technology, and the chip area was 1.9 × 1.7mm2.

    This paper introduces a partially parallel inter-chip link architecture for asynchronous multi-chip Network-on-Chips (NoCs). The multi-chip NoCs that operate as a large NoC have been recently proposed for very large systems, such as automotive applications. Inter-chip links are key elements to realize high-performance multi-chip NoCs using a limited number of I/Os. The proposed asynchronous link based on level-encoded dual-rail (LEDR) encoding transmits several bits in parallel that are received by detecting the phase information of the LEDR signals at each serial link. It employs a burst-mode data transmission that eliminates a per-bit handshake for a high-speed operation, but the elimination may cause data-transmission errors due to cross-talk and power-supply noises. For triggering data retransmission, errors are detected from the embedded phase information; error-detection codes are not used. The throughput is theoretically modelled and is optimized by considering the bit-error rate (BER) of the link. Using delay parameters estimated for a 0.13 µm CMOS technology, the throughput of 8.82 Gbps is achieved by using 10 I/Os, which is 90.5% higher than that of a link using 9 I/Os without an error-detection method operating under negligible low BER (<10-20).

    This paper proposes the design of small CRPA arrays for dual-band Global Positioning System (GPS) applications. The array consists of five elements and is mounted on a circular ground platform with a diameter of 15-cm. Each antenna element has a coupled feed structure and consists of a feed patch and two radiating patches for dual-band operation. An external chip coupler is utilized for a broad circular polarization (CP) bandwidth, and its measured characteristics are taken into account in our simulation for more accurate performance estimation. Detailed parameters are optimized by using a genetic algorithm (GA) in conjunction with the FEKO EM simulator. The optimized antenna is fabricated on a ceramic substrate, and its performance is measured in a full anechoic chamber. Furthermore, a field test is also conducted to verify the signal-to-noise ratio (SNR) for real GPS satellite signals. The results prove that the proposed array is suitable for use in GPS CRPA applications.

    E-band communication is allocated to the frequency bands of 71-76 and 81-86GHz. Radio-frequency (RF) front-end components for E-band communication have been realized using compound semiconductor technology. To realize a CMOS LNA for E-band communication, we propose a gain-boosted cascode amplifier (GBCA) stage that simultaneously provides high gain and stability. Designing an LNA from scratch requires considerable time because the tuning of matching networks with consideration of the parasitic elements is complicated. In this paper, we model the characteristics of devices including the effects of their parasitic elements. Using these models, an optimizer can estimate the characteristic of a designed LNA precisely without electromagnetic simulations and gives us the design values of an LNA when the layout constraint is ignored. Starting from the values, a four-stage LNA with a GBCA stage is designed very easily even though the layout constraint is considered and fabricated by a 65nm LP CMOS process. The fabricated LNA is measured, and it is confirmed that it achieves 18.5GHz bandwidth and over 24.3dB gain with 50.6mW power consumption. This is the first LNA to achieve a gain bandwidth of over 300GHz in the E-band among the LNAs utilizing any kind of semiconductor technologies. In this paper, we have proved that CMOS technology, which is suitable for baseband and digital circuitry, is applicable to a communication system covering the entire E-band.

    For the past couple of decades, the usage of the Web as a platform for deploying software products has become incredibly popular. Web applications became more prevalent, as well as more complex. Countless Web applications have already been designed, developed, tested, and deployed on the Internet. However, it is noticeable that many common functionalities are present among these vast number of applications. This paper proposes an approach based on a database containing information from previous test artifacts. The information is used to generate test scenarios for Web applications under test. We have developed a tool based on our proposed approach, with the aim of reducing the effort required from software test engineers and professionals during the test planning and creation stage of software engineering. We evaluated our approach from three viewpoints: comparison between our approach and manual generation, qualitative evaluation by professional software engineers, and comparison between our approach and two open-source tools.

  • A Semantic-Based Topic Knowledge Map System (STKMS) for Lesson-Learned Documents Reuse in Product Design

    In the process of production design, engineers usually find it is difficult to seek and reuse others' empirical knowledge which is in the forms of lesson-learned documents. This study proposed a novel approach, which uses a semantic-based topic knowledge map system (STKMS) to support timely and precisely lesson-learned documents finding and reusing. The architecture of STKMS is designed, which has five major functional modules: lesson-learned documents pre-processing, topic extraction, topic relation computation, topic weights computation, and topic knowledge map generation modules. Then STKMS implementation is briefly introduced. We have conducted two sets of experiments to evaluate quality of knowledge map and the performance of utilizing STKMS in outfitting design of a ship-building company. The first experiment shows that knowledge maps generated by STKMS are accepted by domain experts from the evaluation since precision and recall are high. The second experiment shows that STKMS-based group outperforms browse-based group in both learning score and satisfaction level, which are two measurements of performance of utilizing STKMS. The promising results confirm the feasibility of STKMS in helping engineers to find needed lesson-learned documents and reuse related knowledge easily and precisely.

  • Class Prior Estimation from Positive and Unlabeled Data

    We consider the problem of learning a classifier using only positive and unlabeled samples. In this setting, it is known that a classifier can be successfully learned if the class prior is available. However, in practice, the class prior is unknown and thus must be estimated from data. In this paper, we propose a new method to estimate the class prior by partially matching the class-conditional density of the positive class to the input density. By performing this partial matching in terms of the Pearson divergence, which we estimate directly without density estimation via lower-bound maximization, we can obtain an analytical estimator of the class prior. We further show that an existing class prior estimation method can also be interpreted as performing partial matching under the Pearson divergence, but in an indirect manner. The superiority of our direct class prior estimation method is illustrated on several benchmark datasets.

    380keV proton irradiation effects are investigated on p-GaN and n-GaN layers in GaN-based light emitting diode (LED) by characterizing current-voltage (I-V) characteristics of p-n junction, and two-terminal resistance of p- and n-GaN on both type of layers in LED wafer. Two-terminal resistance on n-GaN kept its initial value after the 1×1014cm-2 fluence, and was remained the same order after the 1×1015cm-2 fluence. On the other hand, p-GaN showed sensitive increase in two-terminal resistance after the 1×1014cm-2, and six orders of increase after the 1×1015cm-2 fluence. Observed sensitive increase of resistivity in p-GaN is explained as a lower initial hole density in p-GaN than the initial electron density in n-GaN layer.

    Prediction of cross-talk is an important facet of multicore fiber (MCF) design. Several approaches for estimating cross-talk in MCF have been proposed but none are faultless, especially when applied to MCF with heterogeneous cores. We propose a new calculation approach that attempts to solve this problem. In our approach, cross-talk in multicore fibers is estimated by coupled power theory. The coefficients in the coupled power equation are theoretically calculated by the central limit theorem and by quantum mechanical time-dependent perturbations. The results from our calculations agree with those of Monte Carlo simulations of heterogeneous MCFs.

    How do global warming and agriculture influence each other? It is possible to answer the question by searching knowledge about the relationship between global warming and agriculture. As exemplified by this question, strong demands exist for searching relationships between objects. Mining knowledge about relationships on Wikipedia has been studied. However, it is desired to search more diverse knowledge about relationships on the Web. By utilizing the objects constituting relationships mined from Wikipedia, we propose a new method to search images with surrounding text that include knowledge about relationships on the Web. Experimental results show that our method is effective and applicable in searching knowledge about relationships. We also construct a relationship search system named “Enishi” based on the proposed new method. Enishi supplies a wealth of diverse knowledge including images with surrounding text to help users to understand relationships deeply, by complementarily utilizing knowledge from Wikipedia and the Web.

  • On the Dependence of Error Performance of Spatially Coupled LDPC Codes on Their Design Parameters

    Spatially coupled (SC) low-density parity-check (LDPC) codes are defined by bipartite graphs that are obtained by assembling prototype graphs. The combination and connection of prototype graphs are designated by specifying some parameters, and Kudekar et al. showed that BP threshold of the ensemble of SC LDPC codes agrees with MAP threshold of the ensemble of regular LDPC codes when those parameters are grown up so that the code length tends to infinity. When we design SC LDPC codes with practical code length, however, it is not clear how to set those parameters to enhance the performance of SC LDPC codes. In this paper, we provide the result of numerical experiments that suggest the dependence of error performance of SC LDPC codes over BEC on their design parameters.

  • Equivalent Circuit of Aperture-Coupled Transmission-Line Cavities Involving Dielectric Loss and Wall Loss

    The equivalent circuit of aperture-coupled cavities filled with a lossy dielectric is considered by means of an eigenmode expansion technique founded on the segmentation concept. It is different from a series LCR resonant circuit, and the resistor which symbolizes the dielectric loss is connected to the capacitor in parallel. If the cavities are formed by a short-circuited oversize waveguide, then the input admittance can be represented by the product of a coupling factor to the connected waveguide port and the equivalent admittance of the short-circuited waveguide. The transmission line model is effective even if lossy wall effect and dielectric partially-loading effect are considered. As a result, three-dimensional eigenmode parameters, such as the resonant frequency and the Q-factor, become dispensable and the computational complexity for the cavity simulation in the field of microwave heating is dramatically reduced.

    A deeply-coupled system can feed the INS information into a GNSS receiver, and the signal tracking precision can be improved under dynamic conditions by reducing tracking loop bandwidth without losing tracking reliability. In contrast to the vector-based deep integration, the scalar-based GNSS/INS deep integration is a relatively simple and practical architecture, in which all individual DLL and PLL are still exist. Since the implementation of a deeply-couple system needs to modify the firmware of a commercial hardware GNSS receiver, very few studies are reported on deep integration based on hardware platform, especially from academic institutions. This implementation-complexity issue has impeded the development of the deeply-coupled GNSS receivers. This paper introduces a scalar-based MEMS IMU/GNSS deeply-coupled system based on an integrated embedded hardware platform for real-time implementation. The design of the deeply-coupled technologies is described including the system architecture, the model of the inertial-aided tracking loop, and the relevant tracking errors analysis. The implementation issues, which include platform structure, real-time optimization, and generation of aiding information, are discussed as well. The performance of the inertial aided tracking loop and the final navigation solution of the developed deeply-coupled system are tested through the dynamic road test scenarios created by a hardware GNSS/INS simulator with GPS L1 C/A signals and low-level MEMS IMU analog signals outputs. The dynamic tests show that the inertial-aided PLL enables a much narrow tracking loop bandwidth (e.g. 3Hz) under dynamic scenarios; while the non-aided loop would lose lock with such narrow loop bandwidth once maneuvering commences. The dynamic zero-baseline tests show that the Doppler observation errors can be reduced by more than 50% with inertial aided tracking loop. The corresponding navigation results also show that the deep integration improved the velocity precision significantly.
