Parallel line feeder (PLF) consisting of a two-wire transmission line operating in the MHz band has been proposed as a wide-coverage short-distance wireless charging. In the MHz band, a PLF of several meters suffers from standing wave effect, resulting in fluctuation in power transfer efficiency accordingly to the receiver's position. This paper studies a modified version of the system, where the PLF is divided into individually compensated segments to mitigate the standing wave effect. Modelling the PLF as a lossy transmission line, this paper theoretically shows that if the segments' lengths are properly determined, it is able to improve and stabilize the efficiency for all positions. Experimental results at 27.12 MHz confirm the theoretical analysis and show that a fairly high efficiency of 70% can be achieved.

Online social networks have increased their impact on the real world, which motivates information senders to control the propagation process of information to promote particular actions of online users. However, the existing works on information provisioning seem to oversimplify the users' decision-making process that involves information reception, internal actions of social networks, and external actions of social networks. In particular, characterizing the best practices of information provisioning that promotes the users' external actions is a complex task due to the complexity of the propagation process in OSNs, even when the variation of information is limited. Therefore, we propose a new information diffusion model that distinguishes user behaviors inside and outside of OSNs, and formulate an optimization problem to maximize the number of users who take the external actions by providing information over multiple rounds. Also, we define a robust provisioning policy for the problem, which selects a message sequence to maximize the expected number of desired users under the probabilistic uncertainty of OSN settings. Our experiment results infer that there could exist an information provisioning policy that achieves nearly-optimal solutions in different types of OSNs. Furthermore, we empirically demonstrate that the proposed robust policy can be such a universally optimal solution.

The purpose of this study was to develop a practical functional electrical stimulation (FES) controller for joint movements restoration based on an optimal control technique by cascading a linear model predictive control (MPC) and a nonlinear transformation. The cascading configuration was aimed to obtain an FES controller that is able to deal with a nonlinear system. The nonlinear transformation was utilized to transform the linear solution of linear MPC to become a nonlinear solution in form of optimized electrical stimulation intensity. Four different types of nonlinear functions were used to realize the nonlinear transformation. A simple parameter estimation to determine the value of the nonlinear transformation parameter was also developed. The tracking control capability of the proposed controller along with the parameter estimation was examined in controlling the 1-DOF wrist joint movement through computer simulation. The proposed controller was also compared with a fuzzy FES controller. The proposed MPC-FES controller with estimated parameter value worked properly and had a better control accuracy than the fuzzy controller. The parameter estimation was suggested to be useful and effective in practical FES control applications to reduce the time-consuming of determining the parameter value of the proposed controller.

Pseudorandom sequences with large linear complexity can resist the linear attack. The trace representation plays an important role in analysis and design of pseudorandom sequences. In this letter, we present the construction of a family of new binary sequences derived from Euler quotients modulo pq, where pq is a product of two primes and p divides q-1. Firstly, the linear complexity of the sequences are investigated. It is proved that the sequences have larger linear complexity and can resist the attack of Berlekamp-Massey algorithm. Then, we give the trace representation of the proposed sequences by determining the corresponding defining pair. Moreover, we generalize the result to the Euler quotients modulo pmqn with m≤n. Results indicate that the generalized sequences still have high linear complexity. We also give the trace representation of the generalized sequences by determining the corresponding defining pair. The result will be helpful for the implementation and the pseudorandom properties analysis of the sequences.

Direction of arrival (DOA) estimation has been a primary focus of research for many years. Research on DOA estimation continues to be immensely popular in the fields of the internet of things, radar, and smart driving. In this paper, a simple new two-dimensional DOA framework is proposed in which a triangular array is used to receive wideband linear frequency modulated continuous wave signals. The mixed echo signals from various targets are separated into a series of single-tone signals. The unwrapping algorithm is applied to the phase difference function of the single-tone signals. By using the least-squares method to fit the unwrapped phase difference function, the DOA information of each target is obtained. Theoretical analysis and simulation demonstrate that the framework has the following advantages. Unlike traditional phase goniometry, the framework can resolve the trade-off between antenna spacing and goniometric accuracy. The number of detected targets is not limited by the number of antennas. Moreover, the framework can obtain highly accurate DOA estimation results.

Influential user detection is critical in supporting the human facilitator-based facilitation in the online forum. Traditional approaches to detect influential users in the online forum focus on the statistical activity information such as the number of posts. However, statistical activity information cannot fully reflect the influence that users bring to the online forum. In this paper, we propose to detect the influencers from the influence propagation perspective and focus on the influential maximization (IM) problem which aims at choosing a set of users that maximize the influence propagation from the entire social network. An online forum influence propagation network (OFIPN) is proposed to model the influence from an individual user perspective and influence propagation between users, and a heuristic algorithm that is proposed to find influential users in OFIPN. Experiments are conducted by simulations with a real-world social network. Our empirical results show the effectiveness of the proposed algorithm.

Backscatter communication is an emerging wireless access technology to realize ultra-low power terminals exploiting the modulated reflection of incident radio wave. This paper proposes a method to measure the phase angle of backscatter link using principal component analysis (PCA). The phase angle measurement of backscatter link at the receiver is essential to maximize the signal quality for subsequent demodulation and to measure the distance and the angle of arrival. The drawback of popular phase angle measurement with naive phase averaging and linear regression analysis is to produce erroneous phase angle, where the phase angle is close to $pm rac{pi}{2}$ radian and the signal quality is poor. The advantage of the proposal is quantified with a computer simulation, a conducted experiment and radio propagation experiments.

Crosstalk between lines plays an important role in the transmission of signal. Hence it is of great significance to establish the transmission lines model accurately to evaluate factors affecting crosstalk coupling between lines and to improve the anti-interference capability of the system. As twisted-pair line is widely used for its unique twist structure which improves the anti-interference performance of cables, this paper presents a method of constructing transmission lines model of the shielded twisted-pair line (STP) with two twisted pairs based on S-parameters. Firstly, the transmission lines model of STP with one twisted pair is established. The establishment of distributed capacitance matrix of this model depends on the dielectric constant of insulation layer that surrounds a conductor, but the dielectric constant is often unknown. In this respect, a method to obtain the distributed capacitance matrix based on the S-parameters of this model is proposed. Due to twisting, there is a great deal of variability between the distribution parameters along the length of the STP. As the spatial distribution of conductors in the cross-section of twisted-pair line vary along with the cable length, the distribution parameters matrices also change as they move. The cable is divided into several segments, and the transmission lines model of STP is obtained with the cascade of each segment model. For the STP with two twisted pairs, the crosstalk between pairs is analyzed based on the mixed mode S-parameters. Combined with the transmission lines model of STP with one twisted pair, that of STP with two twisted pairs is obtained. The terminal response voltage can be calculated from the transmission lines model and cable terminal conditions. The validity of the transmission lines model is verified by the consistency between the terminal responses calculated by the model and by the simulated. As the theoretical and simulation results are compatible, the modeling method for the STP with two twisted pairs can be used for the STP with more twisted pairs. In practical engineering application, S-parameters and mixed mode S-parameters can be obtained by testing. That means the transmission lines model of STP can be established based on the test results.

Soil moisture sensor calibration based on the Multivariate Adaptive Regression Splines (MARSplines) model is studied in this paper. Different from the generic polynomial fitting methods, the MARSplines model is a non-parametric model, and it is able to model the complex relationship between the actual and measured soil moisture. Rao-1 algorithm is employed to tune the hyper-parameters of the calibration model and thus the performance of the proposed method is further improved. Data collected from four commercial soil moisture sensors is utilized to verify the effectiveness of the proposed method. To assess the calibration performance, the proposed model is compared with the model without using the temperature information. The numeric studies prove that it is promising to apply the proposed model for real applications.

Intelligent reconfigurable surfaces (IRS) have attracted much attention from both industry and academia due to their performance improving capability and low complexity for 6G wireless communication systems. In this letter, we introduce an IRS-assisted space-time line code (STLC) technique. The STLC was introduced as a promising technique to acquire the optimal diversity gain in 1×2 single-input multiple-output (SIMO) channel without channel state information at receiver (CSIR). Using the cosine similarity theorem, we propose a novel phase-steering technique for the proposed IRS-assisted STLC technique. We also mathematically characterize the proposed IRS-assisted STLC technique in terms of outage probability and bit-error rate (BER). Based on computer simulations, it is shown that the results of analysis shows well match with the computer simulation results for various communication scenarios.

Aiming at the problem of non-line of sight (NLOS) signal recognition for Ultra Wide Band (UWB) positioning, we utilize the concepts of Neural Network Clustering and Neural Network Pattern Recognition. We propose a classification algorithm based on self-organizing feature mapping (SOM) neural network batch processing, and a recognition algorithm based on convolutional neural network (CNN). By assigning different weights to learning, training and testing parts in the data set of UWB location signals with given known patterns, a strong NLOS signal recognizer is trained to minimize the recognition error rate. Finally, the proposed NLOS signal recognition algorithm is verified using data sets from real scenarios. The test results show that the proposed algorithm can solve the problem of UWB NLOS signal recognition under strong signal interference. The simulation results illustrate that the proposed algorithm is significantly more effective compared with other algorithms.

Sememes are the smallest semantic units of human languages, the composition of which can represent the meaning of words. Sememes have been successfully applied to many downstream applications in natural language processing (NLP) field. Annotation of a word's sememes depends on language experts, which is both time-consuming and labor-consuming, limiting the large-scale application of sememe. Researchers have proposed some sememe prediction methods to automatically predict sememes for words. However, existing sememe prediction methods focus on information of the word itself, ignoring the expert-annotated knowledge bases which indicate the relations between words and should value in sememe predication. Therefore, we aim at incorporating the expert-annotated knowledge bases into sememe prediction process. To achieve that, we propose a CilinE-guided sememe prediction model which employs an existing word knowledge base CilinE to remodel the sememe prediction from relational perspective. Experiments on HowNet, a widely used Chinese sememe knowledge base, have shown that CilinE has an obvious positive effect on sememe prediction. Furthermore, our proposed method can be integrated into existing methods and significantly improves the prediction performance. We will release the data and code to the public.

The mean, median, and mode are usually calculated from univariate observations as the most basic representative values of a random variable. To measure the spread of the distribution, the standard deviation, interquartile range, and modal interval are also calculated. When we analyze continuous relations between a pair of random variables from bivariate observations, regression analysis is often used. By minimizing appropriate costs evaluating regression errors, we estimate the conditional mean, median, and mode. The conditional standard deviation can be estimated if the bivariate observations are obtained from a Gaussian process. Moreover, the conditional interquartile range can be calculated for various distributions by the quantile regression that estimates any conditional quantile (percentile). Meanwhile, the study of the modal interval regression is relatively new, and spline regression models, known as flexible models having the optimality on the smoothness for bivariate data, are not yet used. In this paper, we propose a modal interval regression method based on spline quantile regression. The proposed method consists of two steps. In the first step, we divide the bivariate observations into bins for one random variable, then detect the modal interval for the other random variable as the lower and upper quantiles in each bin. In the second step, we estimate the conditional modal interval by constructing both lower and upper quantile curves as spline functions. By using the spline quantile regression, the proposed method is widely applicable to various distributions and formulated as a convex optimization problem on the coefficient vectors of the lower and upper spline functions. Extensive experiments, including settings of the bin width, the smoothing parameter and weights in the cost function, show the effectiveness of the proposed modal interval regression in terms of accuracy and visual shape for synthetic data generated from various distributions. Experiments for real-world meteorological data also demonstrate a good performance of the proposed method.

In this paper, we propose a novel radial line planar phased array in which helical antenna elements are individually rotated by their respective connected micromotors to realize dynamic beam-scanning. To our knowledge, this is the first radial line planar array (RLPA) that has antenna elements electromechanically rotated by their individual micromotors. To facilitate its fabrication, helix and its probe are directly metallized on a plastic shaft using molded interconnect device technology, and a motor shaft is press-fitted into the plastic shaft. We also present a new design methodology for RLPA, which combines the equivalent circuit theory and electromagnetic simulations of the unit cell element. The proposed procedure is practical to design an RLPA of antenna elements with arbitrary probe shape without large-scale full-wave analysis of the whole structure of the RLPA. We design, fabricate, and evaluate a 7-circle array with 168 helical antenna elements fabricated using molded interconnect device technology. The prototype antenna exhibits dynamic and accurate beam-scanning performance. Furthermore, the prototype antenna exhibits a low reflection coefficient (less than -17dB) and high antenna efficiency (above 77%), which validates the proposed design methodology.

This paper proposes a novel approach to low complexity soft input decoding for lattice reduction-aided MIMO receivers. The proposed approach feeds a soft input decoder with soft signals made from hard decision signals generated by using a lattice reduction-aided linear detector. The soft signal is a weighted-sum of some candidate vectors that are near by the hard decision signal coming out from the lattice reduction-aided linear detector. This paper proposes a technique to adjust the weight adapt to the channel for the higher transmission performance. Furthermore, we propose to introduce a coefficient that is used for the weights in order to enhance the transmission performance. The transmission performance is evaluated in a 4×4 MIMO channel. When a linear MMSE filter or a serial interference canceller is used as the linear detector, the proposed technique achieves about 1.0dB better transmission performance at the BER of 10-5 than the decoder fed with the hard decision signals. In addition, the low computational complexity of the proposed technique is quantitatively evaluated.

Construction of resilient Boolean functions in odd variables having strictly almost optimal (SAO) nonlinearity appears to be a rather difficult task in stream cipher and coding theory. In this paper, based on the modified High-Meets-Low technique, a general construction to obtain odd-variable SAO resilient Boolean functions without directly using PW functions or KY functions is presented. It is shown that the new class of functions possess higher resiliency order than the known functions while keeping higher SAO nonlinearity, and in addition the resiliency order increases rapidly with the variable number n.

In this letter, we consider a global stabilization problem for a class of feedforward systems by an event-triggered control. This is an extended work of [10] in a way that there are uncertain feedforward nonlinearity and time-varying input delay in the system. First, we show that the considered system is globally asymptotically stabilized by a proposed event-triggered controller with a gain-scaling factor. Then, we also show that the interexecution times can be enlarged by adjusting a gain-scaling factor. A simulation example is given for illustration.

Locally repairable codes have attracted lots of interest in Distributed Storage Systems. If a symbol of a code can be repaired respectively by t disjoint groups of other symbols, each groups has size at most r, we say that the code symbol has (r, t)-locality. In this paper, we employ parity-check matrix to construct information single-parity (r, t)-locality LRCs. All our codes attain the Singleton-like bound of LRCs where each repair group contains a single parity symbol and thus are optimal.

This paper proposes a migration model for distributed server allocation. In distributed server allocation, each user is assigned to a server to minimize the communication delay. In the conventional model, a user cannot migrate to another server to avoid instability. We develop a model where each user can migrate to another server while receiving services. We formulate the proposed model as an integer linear programming problem. We prove that the considered problem is NP-complete. We introduce a heuristic algorithm. Numerical result shows that the proposed model reduces the average communication delay by 59% compared to the conventional model at most.
