In our previous work, we developed a quadrotor with a tilting frame using the parallel link mechanism. It can tilt its frame in the pitch direction by driving only one servo motor. However, it has a singularity such that the input torque in the pitch direction equals 0 at ±π/2 tilted state. In this letter, we analyze the Hopf bifurcation of the controlled quadrotor around the singularity and show the stable limit cycle occurs in the pitch direction by simulation and experiments.

Orthogonal frequency division multiplexing (OFDM) technique has been widely used in communication systems in pursuit of the most efficient utilization of spectrum. However, the increase of the number of orthogonal subcarriers will lead to the rise of the peak-to-average power ratio (PAPR) of the waveform, thus reducing the efficiency of the power amplifiers. In this letter we propose a phase-changed PAPR reduction technique based on windowing function architecture for OFDM systems. This technique is based on the idea of phase change, which makes the spectrum of output signal almost free of regrowth caused by peak clipping. It can reduce more than 28dBc adjacent channel power ratio (ACPR) compared with the traditional peak windowing clipping methods in situation that peak is maximally suppressed. This technique also has low algorithm complexity so it can be easily laid out on hardware. The proposed algorithm has been laid out on a low-cost field-programmable gate array (FPGA) to verify its effectiveness and feasibility. A 64-QAM modulated 20M LTE-A waveform is used for measurement, which has a sampling rate of 245.67M.

Recently, new optimization machines based on non-silicon physical systems, such as quantum annealing machines, have been developed, and their commercialization has been started. These machines solve the problems by searching the state of the Ising spins, which minimizes the Ising Hamiltonian. Such a property of minimization of the Ising Hamiltonian can be applied to various combinatorial optimization problems. In this paper, we introduce the coherent Ising machine (CIM), which can solve the problems in a milli-second order, and has higher performance than the quantum annealing machines especially on the problems with dense mutual connections in the corresponding Ising model. We explain how a target problem can be implemented on the CIM, based on the optimization scheme using the mutually connected neural networks. We apply the CIM to traveling salesman problems as an example benchmark, and show experimental results of the real machine of the CIM. We also apply the CIM to several combinatorial optimization problems in wireless communication systems, such as channel assignment problems. The CIM's ultra-fast optimization may enable a real-time optimization of various communication systems even in a dynamic communication environment.
Offset quadrature amplitude modulation based orthogonal frequency division multiplexing (OFDM/OQAM) is a promising multi-carrier modulation technique to achieve a low-sidelobe spectrum while maintaining orthogonality among subcarriers. However, a major shortcoming of OFDM/OQAM systems is the high peak-to-average power ratio (PAPR) of the transmit signal. To resolve the high-PAPR issue of traditional OFDM, a self-synchronized-scrambler-based selected-mapping has been investigated, where the transmit sequence is scrambled to reduce PAPR. In this method, the receiver must use a descrambler to recover the original data. However, the descrambling process leads to error propagation, which degrades the bit error rate (BER). As described herein, a partial scrambling overlapped selected mapping (PS-OSLM) scheme is proposed for PAPR reduction of OFDM/OQAM signals, where candidate sequences are generated using partial scrambling of original data. The best candidate, the one that minimizes the peak amplitude within multiple OFDM/OQAM symbols, is selected. In the proposed method, an overlap search algorithm for SLM is applied to reduce the PAPR of OFDM/OQAM signals. Numerical results demonstrate that our PS-OSLM proposal achieves better BER than full-scrambling overlapped SLM (FS-OSLM) in OFDM/OQAM systems while maintaining almost equivalent PAPR reduction capability as FS-OSLM and better PAPR than SLM without overlap search. Additionally, we derive a theoretical lower bound expression for OFDM/OQAM with PS-OSLM, and clarify the effectiveness of the proposed scheme.
To reduce peak-to-average power ratio, we propose a method of choosing suitable vectors in a partial transmit sequence technique. Conventional approaches require that a suitable vector be selected from a large number of candidates. By contrast, our method does not include such a selecting procedure, and instead generates random vectors from the Gaussian distribution whose covariance matrix is a solution of a relaxed problem. The suitable vector is chosen from the random vectors. This yields lower peak-to-average power ratio than a conventional method.

In video distribution services such as video streaming, the providers must satisfy the various quality demands of the users. One of the human-centric indexes used to assess video quality is the quality of experience (QoE). In video streaming, the video bitrate, video freezing time, and video bitrate switching are significant determiners of QoE. To provide high-quality video streaming services, adaptive streaming using the Moving Picture Experts Group dynamic adaptive streaming over Hypertext Transfer Protocol (MPEG-DASH) is widely utilized. One of the conventional bitrate selection methods for MPEG-DASH selects the bitrate such that the amount of buffered data in the playback buffer, i.e., the playback buffer level, can be maintained at a constant value. This method can avoid buffer overflow and video freezing based on feedback control; however, this method induces high-frequency video bitrate switching, which can degrade QoE. To overcome this issue, this paper proposes a bitrate selection method in an adaptive video steaming for MPEG-DASH to improve the QoE by minimizing the bitrate fluctuation. To this end, the proposed method does not change the bitrate if the playback buffer level is not around its upper or lower limit, corresponding to the full or empty state of the playback buffer, respectively. In particular, to avoid buffer overflow and video freezing, the proposed method selects the bitrate based on proportional-derivative (PD) control to maintain the playback buffer level at a target level, which corresponds to an upper or lower threshold of the playback buffer level. Simulations confirm that, the proposed method offers better QoE than the conventional method for users with various preferences.

Electrical connectors are the basic components of the electric system in automobiles, aircrafts and ships to realize the current and electrical signal transmission. In the aviation electrical system, the electrical connectors are indispensable supporting devices accessories, which play important roles in connecting electrical system, monitoring and controlling equipment, and provide a guarantee for the reliable transmission of electrical signals between the aviation equipment and system. Whether aviation electrical connectors work reliably directly affects the safety and reliability of the entire aircraft aviation system. The random vibration of aircraft caused by turbulence during flight is one of the main factors affecting the contact performance of the electrical connectors. In this paper, the contacts of the circular four-slot three-pin electrical connectors were chosen as the research specimens. The theoretical model of the contact force for contacts of electrical connectors was established. The test method for contact force measurement was determined. According to the test scheme, the detecting device for the contact force and contact resistance of the electrical connectors was designed, and the turbulence test of the electrical connectors was carried out. Through the analysis of the test data, the influence rule of the turbulence degree, flight speed and flight height on the contact force and contact resistance of the aviation electrical connectors was obtained.
We propose a compact magnetic tunnel junction (MTJ) model for circuit simulation by de-facto standard SPICE in this paper. It is implemented by Verilog-A language which makes it easy to simulate MTJs with other standard devices. Based on the switching probability, we smoothly connect the adiabatic precessional model and the thermal activation model by using an interpolation technique based on the cubic spline method. We can predict the switching time after a current is applied. Meanwhile, we use appropriate physical models to describe other MTJ characteristics. Simulation results validate that the model is consistent with experimental data and effective for MTJ/CMOS hybrid circuit simulation.

This paper describes a method to control prosodic features using phonetic and prosodic symbols as input of attention-based sequence-to-sequence (seq2seq) acoustic modeling (AM) for neural text-to-speech (TTS). The method involves inserting a sequence of prosodic symbols between phonetic symbols that are then used to reproduce prosodic acoustic features, i.e. accents, pauses, accent breaks, and sentence endings, in several seq2seq AM methods. The proposed phonetic and prosodic labels have simple descriptions and a low production cost. By contrast, the labels of conventional statistical parametric speech synthesis methods are complicated, and the cost of time alignments such as aligning the boundaries of phonemes is high. The proposed method does not need the boundary positions of phonemes. We propose an automatic conversion method for conventional labels and show how to automatically reproduce pitch accents and phonemes. The results of objective and subjective evaluations show the effectiveness of our method.

Inspired by an idea due to Levenshtein, we apply the low correlation zone constraint in the analysis of the weighted mean square aperiodic correlation. Then we derive a lower bound on the measure for quasi-complementary sequence sets with low correlation zone (LCZ-QCSS). We discuss the conditions of tightness for the proposed bound. It turns out that the proposed bound is tighter than Liu-Guan-Ng-Chen bound for LCZ-QCSS. We also derive a lower bound for QCSS, which improves the Liu-Guan-Mow bound in general.

The partial-period autocorrelation of sequences is an important performance measure of communication systems employing them, but it is notoriously difficult to be analyzed. In this paper, we propose an algorithm to design unimodular sequences with low partial-period autocorrelations via directly minimizing the partial-period integrated sidelobe level (PISL). The proposed algorithm is inspired by the monotonic minimizer for integrated sidelobe level (MISL) algorithm. Then an acceleration scheme is considered to further accelerate the algorithms. Numerical experiments show that the proposed algorithm can effectively generate sequences with lower partial-period peak sidelobe level (PPSL) compared with the well-known Zadoff-Chu sequences.

We consider all-to-all broadcast and unicast among nodes in a multi-channel single-hop ad hoc network, with no time synchronization. Motivated by the hard delay requirement for ultra-reliable and low-latency communication (URLLC) in 5G wireless networks, we aim at designing medium access control (MAC) schemes to guarantee successful node-to-node transmission within a bounded delay. To provide a hard guarantee on the transmission delay, deterministic sequence schemes are preferred to probabilistic schemes such as carrier sense multiple access (CSMA). Therefore, we mainly consider sequence schemes, with the goal to design schedule sequence set to guarantee successful broadcast/unicast within a common sequence period. This period should be as short as possible since it determines an upper bound on the transmission delay. In previous works, we have considered sequence design under time division duplex (TDD). In this paper, we focus on another common duplex mode, frequency division duplex (FDD). For the FDD case, we present a lower bound on period of feasible sequence sets, and propose a sequence construction method by which the sequence period can achieve the same order as the lower bound, for both broadcast and unicast models. We also compare the sequence length for FDD with that for TDD.

Recently, adaptive streaming over information centric network (ICN) has attracted attention. In adaptive streaming over ICN, the bitrate adaptation of the client often overestimates a bitrate for available bandwidth due to congestion because the client implicitly estimates congestion status from the content download procedures of ICN. As a result, streaming overestimated bitrate results in QoE degradation of clients such as cause of a stall time and frequent variation of the bitrate. In this paper, we propose a congestion-aware adaptive streaming over ICN combined with the explicit congestion notification (CAAS with ECN) to avoid QoE degradation. CAAS with ECN encourages explicit feedback of congestion detected in the router on the communication path, and introduces the upper band of the selectable bitrate (bitrate-cap) based on explicit feedback from the router to the bitrate adaptation of the clients. We evaluate the effectiveness of CAAS with ECN for client's QoE degradation due to congestion and behavior on the QoS metrics based on throughput. The simulation experiments show that the bitrate adjustment for all the clients improves QoE degradation and QoE fairness due to effective congestion avoidance.

Ising machines have attracted attention, which is expected to obtain better solutions of various combinatorial optimization problems at high speed by mapping the problems to natural phenomena. A slot-placement problem is one of the combinatorial optimization problems, regarded as a quadratic assignment problem, which relates to the optimal logic-block placement in a digital circuit as well as optimal delivery planning. Here, we propose a mapping to the Ising model for solving a slot-placement problem with additional constraints, called a constrained slot-placement problem, where several item pairs must be placed within a given distance. Since the behavior of Ising machines is stochastic and we map the problem to the Ising model which uses the penalty method, the obtained solution does not always satisfy the slot-placement constraint, which is different from the conventional methods such as the conventional simulated annealing. To resolve the problem, we propose an interpretation method in which a feasible solution is generated by post-processing procedures. We measured the execution time of an Ising machine and compared the execution time of the simulated annealing in which solutions with almost the same accuracy are obtained. As a result, we found that the Ising machine is faster than the simulated annealing that we implemented.
Input devices based on direct touch have replaced traditional ones and become the mainstream interactive technology for handheld devices. Although direct touch interaction proves to be easy to use, its problems, e.g. the occlusion problem and the fat finger problem, lower user experience. Camera-based mobile interaction is one of the solutions to overcome the problems. There are two typical interaction styles to generate camera-based pointing interaction for handheld devices: move the device or move an object before the camera. In the first interaction style, there are two approaches to move a cursor's position across the handheld display: move it towards the same direction or the opposite direction which the device moves to. In this paper, the results of a comparison research, which compared the pointing performances of three camera-based pointing techniques, are presented. All pointing techniques utilized input from the rear-facing camera. The results indicate that the interaction style of moving a finger before the camera outperforms the other one in efficiency, accuracy, and throughput. The results also indicate that within the interaction style of moving the device, the cursor positioning style of moving the cursor to the opposite direction is slightly better than the other one in efficiency and throughput. Based on the findings, we suggest giving priority to the interaction style of moving a finger when deploying camera-based pointing techniques on handheld devices. Given that the interaction style of moving the device supports one-handed manipulation, it also worth deploying when one-handed interaction is needed. According to the results, the cursor positioning style of moving the cursor towards the opposite direction which the device moves to may be a better choice.

This letter presents an image quality assessment (IQA) metric for scanning electron microscopy (SEM) images based on texture inpainting. Inspired by the observation that the texture information of SEM images is quite sensitive to distortions, a texture inpainting network is first trained to extract texture features. Then the weights of the trained texture inpainting network are transferred to the IQA network to help it learn an effective texture representation of the distorted image. Finally, supervised fine-tuning is conducted on the IQA network to predict the image quality score. Experimental results on the SEM image quality dataset demonstrate the advantages of the presented method.

Universal filtered multicarrier (UFMC) systems offer a flexibility of filtering sub-bands with arbitrary bandwidth to suppress out-of-band (OoB) emission, while keeping the orthogonality between subcarriers in one sub-band. Oscillator discrepancies between the transmitter and receiver induce carrier frequency offset (CFO) in practical systems. In this paper, we propose a novel CFO estimation method for UFMC systems that has very low computational complexity and can then be used in practical systems. In order to fully exploit the coherence bandwidth of the channel, the training symbols are designed to have several identical segments in the frequency domain. As a result, the integral part of CFO can be estimated by simply determining the correlation between received signal and the training symbol. Simulation results show that the proposed method can achieve almost the same performance as an existing method and even a better performance in channels that have small decay parameter values. The proposed method can also be used in other multicarrier systems, such as orthogonal frequency division multiplexing (OFDM).
A method for the calibration of S11 at the front surface of a material for a coaxial-feed type cut-off circular waveguide with three reference materials inserted and no short termination condition was proposed as a preliminary step for dielectric measurement in liquids. The equations for jig calibration of S11 with these reference materials were first defined, and the electrostatic capacitance for the analytical model unique to the jig was quantified by substituting the reflection constant (calculated at frequencies of 0.50, 1.5 and 3.0 GHz using the mode-matching (MM) technique) into the equivalent circuit, assuming the sample liquid in the jig. The accuracy of S11 measured using the proposed method was then verified. S11 for the front surface of the sample material was also measured with various liquids in the jig after calibration, and the dielectric constants of the liquids were estimated as an inverse problem based on comparison of S11 calculated from an analytical model using EM analysis via the MM technique with the measured S11 values described above. The effectiveness of the proposed S11 calibration method was verified by comparison with dielectric constants estimated after S11 SOM (short, open and reference material) calibration and similar, with results showing favorable agreement with each method.

A differential on chip oscillator (OCO) is proposed in this paper for low supply voltage, high frequency accuracy and fast startup. The differential architecture helps the OCO achieve a good power supply rejection ratio (PSRR) without using a regulator so as to make the OCO suitable for a low power supply voltage of 1.38V. A reference voltage generator is also developed to generate two output voltages lower than Vbe for low supply voltage operation. The output frequency is locked to 48MHz by a frequency-locked loop (FLL) and a 3.3-ppm/°C temperature coefficient of frequency is realized by the differential voltage ratio adjusting (differential VRA) technique. The startup time is only 1.47μs because the differential OCO is not necessary to charge a big capacitor for ripple reduction.
