A polyphase sequence set with orthogonality consisting complex elements with unit magnitude, can be expressed by a unitary matrix corresponding to the complex Hadamard matrix or the discrete Fourier transform (DFT) matrix, whose rows are orthogonal to each other. Its matched filter bank (MFB), which can simultaneously output the correlation between a received symbol and any sequence in the set, is effective for constructing communication systems flexibly. This paper discusses the compact design of the MFB of a polyphase sequence set, which can be applied to any sequence set generated by the given logic function. It is primarily focused on a ZCZ code with q-phase or more elements expressed as A(N=qn+s, M=qn-1, Zcz=qs(q-1)), where q, N, M and Zcz respectively denote, a positive integer, sequence period, family size, and a zero correlation zone, since the compact design of the MFB becomes difficult when Zcz is large. It is shown that the given logic function on the ring of integers modulo q generating the ZCZ code gives the matrix representation of the MFB that M-dimensional output vector can be represented by the product of the unitary matrix of order M and an M-dimensional input vector whose elements are written as the sum of elements of an N-dimensional input vector. Since the unitary matrix (complex Hadamard matrix) can be factorized into n-1 unitary matrices of order M with qM nonzero elements corresponding to fast unitary transform, a compact MFB with a minimum number of circuit elements can be designed. Its hardware complexity is reduced from O(MN) to O(qM log q M+N).

For the blind estimation of short-code direct sequence spread spectrum (DSSS) signal pseudo-noise (PN) sequences, the eigenvalue decomposition (EVD) algorithm, the singular value decomposition (SVD) algorithm and the double-periodic projection approximation subspace tracking with deflation (DPASTd) algorithm are often used to estimate the PN sequence. However, when the asynchronous time delay is unknown, the largest eigenvalue and the second largest eigenvalue may be very close, resulting in the estimated largest eigenvector being any non-zero linear combination of the really required largest eigenvector and the really required second largest eigenvector. In other words, the estimated largest eigenvector exhibits unitary ambiguity. This degrades the performance of any algorithm estimating the PN sequence from the estimated largest eigenvector. To tackle this problem, this paper proposes a spreading sequence blind estimation algorithm based on the rotation matrix. First of all, the received signal is divided into two-information-period-length temporal vectors overlapped by one-information-period. The SVD or DPASTd algorithm can then be applied to obtain the largest eigenvector and the second largest eigenvector. The matrix composed of the largest eigenvector and the second largest eigenvector can be rotated by the rotation matrix to eliminate any unitary ambiguity. In this way, the best estimation of the PN sequence can be obtained. Simulation results show that the proposed algorithm not only solves the problem of estimating the PN sequence when the largest eigenvalue and the second largest eigenvalue are close, but also performs well at low signal-to-noise ratio (SNR) values.

The accurate calculation of the inductance is the most basic problem of the inductor design. In this paper, the core flux density distribution and leakage flux in core window and winding of core-type inductor are analyzed by finite element analysis (FEA) firstly. Based on it, an improved magnetic equivalent circuit with high accuracy flux density distribution (iMEC) is proposed for a single-phase core-type inductor. Depend on the geometric structure, two leakage paths of the core window are modeled. Furthermore, the iMEC divides the magnetomotive force of the winding into the corresponding core branch. It makes the core flux density distribution consistent with the FEA distribution to improve the accuracy of the inductance. In the iMEC, flux density of the core leg has an error less than 5.6% compared to FEA simulation at 150A. The maximum relative error of the inductance is less than 8.5% and the average relative error is less than 6% compared to the physical prototype test data. At the same time, due to the high computational efficiency of iMEC, it is very suitable for the population-based optimization design.

This paper presents an analysis of the relationship between noise and bandwidth in visible light communication (VLC) systems. In the past few years, pre-emphasis and post-equalization techniques were proposed to extend the bandwidth of VLC systems. However, these bandwidth extension techniques also influence noise and sensitivity of the VLC systems. In this paper, first, we build a system model of VLC transceivers and circuit models of pre-emphasis and post-equalization. Next, we theoretically compare the bandwidth and noise of three different transceiver structures comprising a single pre-emphasis circuit, a single post-equalization circuit and a combination of pre-emphasis and post-equalization circuits. Finally, we validate the presented theoretical analysis using experimental results. The result shows that for the same resonant frequency, and for high signal-to-noise ratio (S/N), VLC systems employing post-equalization or pre-emphasis have the same bandwidth extension ability. Therefore, a transceiver employing both the pre-emphasis and post-equalization techniques has a bandwidth √2 times the bandwidth of the systems employing only the pre-emphasis or post-equalization. Based on the theoretical analysis of noise, the VLC system with only active pre-emphasis shows the lowest noise, which is a good choice for low-noise systems. The result of this paper may provide a new perspective of noise and sensitivity of the bandwidth extension techniques in VLC systems.

This paper introduces a new multi-satellite multi-beam system with single frequency reuse; it uses the MIMO (Multi Input Multi Output) technique to improve the frequency efficiency as the satellite communication band is limited. MIMO is the one of the most important approaches to improve the spectral efficiency in support of broadband communications. Since it is difficult to achieve high spectral efficiency by simply combining conventional MIMO satellite techniques, i.e. combining a multi-beam system with single frequency reuse with a multiple satellite system, this paper proposes transmitter pre-coding and receiver equalization techniques to enhance the channel capacity even under time/frequency asynchronous conditions. A channel capacity comparison shows that the proposed system is superior to conventional alternatives.

A low frequency electric field probe that integrates data acquisition and storage is developed in this paper. An electric small monopole antenna printed on the circuit board is used as the receiving antenna; the rear end of the monopole antenna is connected to the integral circuit to achieve the flat frequency response; the logarithmic detection method is applied to obtain a high measurement dynamic range. In addition, a Microprogrammed Control Unit is set inside to realize data acquisition and storage. The size of the probe developed is not exceeding 20 mm × 20 mm × 30 mm. The field strength 0.2 V/m ~ 261 V/m can be measured in the frequency range of 500 Hz ~ 10 MHz, achieving a dynamic range over 62 dB. It is suitable for low frequency electric field strength measurement and shielding effectiveness test of small shield.

Locally repairable codes (LRCs) with locality r and availability t are a class of codes which can recover data from erasures by accessing other t disjoint repair groups, that every group contain at most r other code symbols. This letter will investigate constructions of LRCs derived from cyclic codes and generalized quadrangle. On the one hand, two classes of cyclic LRC with given locality m-1 and availability em are proposed via trace function. Our LRCs have the same locality, availability, minimum distance and code rate, but have short length and low dimension. On the other hand, an LRC with $(2,(p+1)lfloor rac{s}{2} floor)$ is presented based on sets of points in PG(k, q) which form generalized quadrangles with order (s, p). For k=3, 4, 5, LRCs with r=2 and different t are determined.

This paper proposes a sampling strategy for bandlimited graph signals over perturbed graph, in which we assume the edge between any pair of the nodes may be deleted randomly. Considering the mismatch between the true graph and the presumed graph, we derive the mean square error (MSE) of the reconstructed bandlimited graph signals. To minimize the MSE, we propose a greedy-based algorithm to obtain the optimal sampling set. Furthermore, we use Neumann series to avoid the pseudo-inverse computing. An efficient algorithm with low-complexity is thus proposed. Finally, numerical results show the superiority of our proposed algorithms over the other existing algorithms.

This paper presents a real-time body motion classification system using the radio channel characteristics of a wearable body area network (BAN). We developed a custom wearable BAN radio channel measurement system by modifying an off-the-shelf ZigBee-based sensor network system, where the link quality indicator (LQI) values of the wireless links between the coordinator and four sensor nodes can be measured. After interpolating and standardizing the raw data samples in a pre-processing stage, the time-domain features are calculated, and the body motion is classified by a decision-tree based random forest machine learning algorithm which is most suitable for real-time processing. The features were carefully chosen to exclude those that exhibit the same tendency based on the mean and variance of the features to avoid overfitting. The measurements demonstrated successful real-time body motion classification and revealed the potential for practical use in various daily-life applications.

Massive MIMO is known as a promising technology for multiuser multiplexing in the fifth generation mobile communication system to accommodate the rapidly-increasing traffic. It has a large number of antenna elements and thus provides very sharp beams. As seen in hybrid beamforming, there have already been many papers on the concatenation of two precoders (beamformers). The inner precoder, i.e., a multi-beam former, performs a linear transformation between the element space and the beam space. The outer precoder forms nulls in the limited beam space spanned by selected beams to suppress the inter-user interference. In this two-step precoder, the beam shape is expected to determine the system performance. In this paper, we evaluate the achievable throughput performance for different beam-shaping schemes: a discrete Fourier transform (DFT) beam, Chebyshev weighted beams, and Taylor weighted beam. Simulations show that the DFT beam provides the best performance except the case of imperfect precoding and cell edge SNR of 30dB.

This paper presents the feasibility of a capacitive coupler utilizing an electric double layer for wireless power transfer under seawater. Since seawater is an electrolyte solution, an electric double layer (EDL) is formed on the electrode surface of the coupler in direct current. If the EDL can be utilized in radio frequency, it is possible that high power transfer efficiency can be achieved under seawater because a high Q-factor can be obtained. To clarify this, the following steps need taking; First, measure the frequency characteristics of the complex permittivity in seawater and elucidate the behaviors of the EDL from the results. Second, clarify that EDL leads to an improvement in the Q-factor of seawater. It will be shown in this paper that capacitive coupling by EDL occurs using two kinds of the coupler models. Third, design a coupler with high efficiency as measured by the Q-factor and relative permittivity of EDL. Last, demonstrate that the designed coupler under seawater can achieve over 85% efficiency at a transfer distance of 5 mm and feasibility of the coupler with EDL.

A unified decision scheme for the classification and localization of cable faults is proposed based on a two-step procedure. Having basis in the time domain reflectometry (TDR), the proposed scheme is capable of determining not only the locations but also types of faults in a cable without an excessive additional computational burden compared to other TDR-based schemes. Results from simulation and experiments with measured real data demonstrate that the proposed scheme exhibits a higher rate of correct decision than the conventional schemes in localizing and classifying faults over a wide range of the location of faults.

Simultaneous multithreading (SMT) technology improves CPU throughput, but also causes unpredictable performance fluctuations for co-running workloads. Although recent major SMT processors have adopted some techniques to promote hardware support for quality-of-service (QoS), achieving both precise performance guarantees and high throughput on SMT architectures is still a challenging open problem. In this paper, we demonstrate through some comprehensive investigations on a cycle-accurate simulator that not only almost all in-core resources suffer from severe contention as workloads vary but also there is a non-linear relationship between performance and available quotas of resources. We consider these observations as the fundamental reason leading to the challenging problem above. Thus, we introduce QoSMT, a novel hardware scheme that leverages a closed-loop controlling mechanism consisting of detection, prediction and adjustment to enforce precise performance guarantees for specific targets, e.g. achieving 85%, 90% or 95% of the performance of a workload running alone respectively. We implement a prototype on GEM5 simulator. Experimental results show that the average control error is only 1.4%, 0.5% and 3.6%.

Goal modeling is a method that describes requirements structurally. Goal modeling mainly consists of two tasks: extraction of goals and organization of the extracted goals. Generally, the process of the goal modeling requires intensive manual intervention and higher modeling skills than the process of the usual requirements description. In order to mitigate this problem, we propose a method that provides systematic supports for constructing goal models. In the method, the requirement analyst answers questions and a goal model is semi-automatically constructed based on the answers made. We develop a prototype tool that implements the proposed method and apply it to two systems. The results demonstrate the feasibility of the method.

In this paper, we present the effectiveness of image compression based on a convolutional auto encoder (CAE) with region of interest (ROI) for quality control. We propose a method that adapts image quality for prioritized parts and non-prioritized parts for CAE-based compression. The proposed method uses annotation information for the distortion weights of the MS-SSIM-based loss function. We show experimental results using a road damage image dataset that is used to check damaged parts and an image dataset with segmentation data (ADE20K). The experimental results reveals that the proposed weighted loss function with CAE-based compression from F. Mentzer et al. learns some characteristics and preferred bit allocations of the prioritized parts by end-to-end training. In the case of using road damage image dataset, our method reduces bpp by 31% compared to the original method while meeting quality requirements that an average weighted MS-SSIM for the road damaged parts be larger than 0.97 and an average weighted MS-SSIM for the other parts be larger than 0.95.

Periodic sequences, used as keys in cryptosystems, plays an important role in cryptography. Such periodic sequences should possess high linear complexity to resist B-M algorithm. Sequences constructed by cyclotomic cosets have been widely studied in the past few years. In this paper, the linear complexity of n-periodic cyclotomic sequences of order 2 and 4 over 𝔽p has been calculated, where n and p are two distinct odd primes. The conclusions reveal that the presented sequences have high linear complexity in many cases, which indicates that the sequences can resist the linear attack.

Difference systems of sets (DSSs) introduced by Levenstein are combinatorial structures used to construct comma-free codes for synchronization. In this letter, two classes of optimal DSSs are presented. One class is obtained based on q-ary ideal sequences with d-form property and difference-balanced property. The other class of optimal and perfect DSSs is derived from perfect ternary sequences given by Ipatov in 1995. Compared with known constructions (Zhou, Tang, Optimal and perfect difference systems of sets from q-ary sequences with difference-balanced property, Des. Codes Cryptography, 57(2), 215-223, 2010), the proposed DSSs lead to comma-free codes with nonzero code rate.
