A circuit technique to correct Vdd/PM distortion and improve efficiency as supply modulation of cascode class-E PAs has been proposed. The experimental result shows that the phase distortion can be improved from 20 degrees to 5 degrees. Moreover, a system co-simulation result demonstrated that the EVM can be improved from -17 dB to -19 dB.
In the model, a sender S wants to send a message to a receiver R secretly and reliably in r-round. They do not share any information like keys, but there are n independent communication channels between S and R, and an adversary A can observe and/or substitute the data which goes through some channels (but not all). In this paper, we propose almost secure (1-round, 3t+1-channel ) MTSs which have following two properties where t is the number of channels A can observe and/or forge. (1) The running time of message decryption algorithm is polynomial in n. (2) Communication cost is smaller than the previous MTSs, if the message is large to some degree.

A rigorous semi-analytical approach for the scalar field in a microstructured optical fiber, which is formed of layered cylindrical arrays of circular rods symmetrically distributed on each concentric cylindrical layer, is presented. The method uses the T-matrix of a circular rod in isolation and the generalized reflection and transmission matrices of cylindrical arrays. Numerical examples of the mode index for three-layered hexagonal structure of circular air holes are demonstrated and compared with those obtained by a variational method.

The Fourier series expansion method is a useful tool to approach the problems of discontinuities in optical waveguides, and it can apply to analyze the Floquet-modes of photonic crystal waveguides. However, it has known that the Floquet-mode calculation with large truncation order is limited because of the roundoff errors. This paper proposes a novel formulation of the Floquet-modes propagating in two-dimensional photonic crystal waveguides formed by circular cylinders. We introduce a periodic boundary condition as same with the conventional method, and the fields are expressed in the Fourier series expansions. The present formulation also introduces the cylindrical-wave expansions and uses the recursive transition-matrix algorithm, which is used to analyze the scattering from cylinder array. This makes us possible to obtain very high accuracy without the use of large truncation order for Fourier series expansion. The presented formulation is validated by numerical experiments.

This paper describes a simple means to enable direct diagnosis by bypassing MISRs on a small set of tests (MISR-bypass test mode) while achieving ultimate output compression using MISRs for the majority of tests (MISR-enabled test mode.) By combining two compression schemes, XOR and MISRs in the same device, it becomes possible to have high compression and still support compression mode volume diagnostics. In our experiment, the MISR-bypass test was first executed and at 10% of the total test set the MISR-enabled test was performed. The results show that compared with MISR+XOR-based compression the proposed technique provides better volume diagnosis with slightly small (0.71 X to 0.97 X) compaction ratio. The scan cycles are about the same as the MISR-enabled mode. A possible application to partial good chips is also shown.
In this paper, we propose a technique for estimating the degree or intensity of emotional expressions and speaking styles appearing in speech. The key idea is based on a style control technique for speech synthesis using a multiple regression hidden semi-Markov model (MRHSMM), and the proposed technique can be viewed as the inverse of the style control. In the proposed technique, the acoustic features of spectrum, power, fundamental frequency, and duration are simultaneously modeled using the MRHSMM. We derive an algorithm for estimating explanatory variables of the MRHSMM, each of which represents the degree or intensity of emotional expressions and speaking styles appearing in acoustic features of speech, based on a maximum likelihood criterion. We show experimental results to demonstrate the ability of the proposed technique using two types of speech data, simulated emotional speech and spontaneous speech with different speaking styles. It is found that the estimated values have correlation with human perception.

In this paper, we design and analyze some new and practical (selectively) convertible undeniable signature (SCUS) schemes in both random oracle and standard model, which enjoy several merits over existing schemes in the literature. In particular, we design the first practical RSA-based SCUS schemes secure in the standard model. On the path, we also introduce two moduli RSA assumptions, including the strong twin RSA assumption, which is the RSA symmetry of the strong twin Diffie-Hellman assumption (Eurocrypt'08).

In this paper, we present practical password recovery attacks against two challenge and response authentication protocols using MD4. For attacks on protocols, the number of queries is one of the most important factors because the opportunity where an attacker can ask queries is very limited in real protocols. When responses are computed as MD4(Password||Challenge), which is called prefix approach, previous work needs to ask 237 queries to recover a password. Asking 237 queries in real protocols is almost impossible. In our attack, to recover up to 8-octet passwords, we only need 1 time the amount of eavesdropping, 17 queries, and 234 MD4 off-line computations. To recover up to 12-octet passwords, we only need 210 times the amount of eavesdropping, 210 queries, and 241 off-line MD4 computations. When responses are computed as MD4(Password||Challenge||Password), which is called hybrid approach, previous work needs to ask 263 queries, while in our attack, up to 8-octet passwords are practically recovered by 28 times the amount of eavesdropping, 28 queries, and 239 off-line MD4 computations. Our idea is guessing a part of passwords so that we can simulate values of intermediate chaining variables from observed hash values. This enables us to use a short local collision that occurs with a very high probability, and thus the number of queries becomes practical.

In this paper, we propose a rapid model adaptation technique for emotional speech recognition which enables us to extract paralinguistic information as well as linguistic information contained in speech signals. This technique is based on style estimation and style adaptation using a multiple-regression HMM (MRHMM). In the MRHMM, the mean parameters of the output probability density function are controlled by a low-dimensional parameter vector, called a style vector, which corresponds to a set of the explanatory variables of the multiple regression. The recognition process consists of two stages. In the first stage, the style vector that represents the emotional expression category and the intensity of its expressiveness for the input speech is estimated on a sentence-by-sentence basis. Next, the acoustic models are adapted using the estimated style vector, and then standard HMM-based speech recognition is performed in the second stage. We assess the performance of the proposed technique in the recognition of simulated emotional speech uttered by both professional narrators and non-professional speakers.

Supporting quality-of-service (QoS) of multimedia communications over IEEE 802.11 based ad hoc networks is a challenging task. This paper develops a simple 3-D Markov chain model for queuing analysis of IEEE 802.11 MAC layer. The model is applied for performance analysis of voice communications over IEEE 802.11 single-hop ad hoc networks. By using the model, we finish the performance optimization of IEEE MAC layer and obtain the maximum number of voice calls in IEEE 802.11 ad hoc networks as well as the statistical performance bounds. Furthermore, we design a fully distributed call admission control (CAC) algorithm which can provide strict statistical QoS guarantee for voice communications over IEEE 802.11 ad hoc networks. Extensive simulations indicate the accuracy of the analytical model and the CAC scheme.

A differential inter-symbol interference (ISI) cancellation method for time domain synchronous orthogonal frequency division multiplexing (TDS-OFDM) systems is proposed. The differential output of an OFDM system can greatly reduce the impact of ISI in the frequency domain and it constructs a convolutional structure, thus the Viterbi decoding algorithm can be used to recover the transmitted information from the output signal. Simulation results show the effectiveness of the proposed method.

For fast egomotion of a camera, computing feature correspondence and motion parameters by global search becomes highly time-consuming. Therefore, the complexity of the estimation needs to be reduced for real-time applications. In this paper, we propose a compound omnidirectional vision sensor and an algorithm for estimating its fast egomotion. The proposed sensor has both multi-baselines and a large field of view (FOV). Our method uses the multi-baseline stereo vision capability to classify feature points as near or far features. After the classification, we can estimate the camera rotation and translation separately by using random sample consensus (RANSAC) to reduce the computational complexity. The large FOV also improves the robustness since the translation and rotation are clearly distinguished. To date, there has been no work on combining multi-baseline stereo with large FOV characteristics for estimation, even though these characteristics are individually are important in improving egomotion estimation. Experiments showed that the proposed method is robust and produces reasonable accuracy in real time for fast motion of the sensor.

Due to the importance of maintaining the orthogonality among subcarriers, the estimation of carrier frequency offset (CFO) is a crucial issue in orthogonal frequency division multiplexing (OFDM) systems. The CFO estimation becomes complicated in OFDM direct-conversion receivers (DCRs), where additional analog impairments such as I/Q imbalance and time-varying DC offset (TV-DCO) exist. In this paper, we propose a novel joint estimation method for CFO and I/Q imbalance in the presence of TV-DCO. By using the linear property of the TV-DCO and employing a periodic pilot sequence, the desired estimates can be obtained in closed-form. Simulation results confirm the validity of the proposed method.

This letter proposes the Inference Algorithm through Effective Slot Allocation (ESA-IA). In ESA-IA, the tags which match the prefix of the reader's request-respond in the corresponding slot; the group of tags with an even number of 1's responds in slot 0, while the group with an odd number of 1's responds in slot 1. The proposed algorithm infers '00' and '11' if there are two collided bits in slot 0, while inferring '01' and '10' if there are two collided bits in slot 1. The ESA-IA decreases the time consumption for tag identification by reducing the overall number of queries.

This paper proposes a low complexity noise suppressor with hybrid filterbanks and adaptive time-frequency tiling. An analysis hybrid filterbank provides efficient transformation by further decomposing low-frequency bins after a coarse transformation with a short frame size. A synthesis hybrid filterbank also reduces computational complexity in a similar fashion to the analysis hybrid filterbank. Adaptive time-frequency tiling reduces the number of spectral gain calculations. It adaptively generates tiling information in the time-frequency plane based on the signal characteristics. The average number of instructions on a typical DSP chip has been reduced by 30% to 7.5 MIPS in case of mono signals sampled at 44.1 kHz. A Subjective test result shows that the sound quality of the proposed method is comparable to that of the conventional one.

Analytical solutions for the frequency-dependent transmission line model parameters of a stranded coaxial cable, which are not trivial due to the complex geometry, are presented and discussed in this paper. A frequency-dependent effective conductor radius of a stranded wire coaxial cable is proposed to estimate the internal impedance using the Bessel function solutions of a solid wire coaxial cable. The performance of the proposed model is verified by electromagnetic field solver simulation and by experimental measurement. The results show that the proposed model successfully calculates the broadband frequency-dependent RLGC model parameters and characteristic impedance of a stranded wire coaxial cable with high accuracy.
In this paper, we propose an area-efficient design of Advanced Encryption Standard (AES) processor by applying a new common-expression-elimination (CSE) method to the sub-functions of various transformations required in AES. The proposed method reduces the area cost of realizing the sub-functions by extracting the common factors in the bit-level XOR/AND-based sum-of-product expressions of these sub-functions using a new CSE algorithm. Cell-based implementation results show that the AES processor with our proposed CSE method has significant area improvement compared with previous designs.

We report Ultraviolet (UV)-induced visible light luminescence in artificial-lattice thin films of ion-doped silica glass (silica superstructure thin films). The film was composed of periodic nanometer layers of germanium-doped silica (Ge:SiO2), titanium-doped silica (Ti:SiO2), and tin-doped silica (Sn:SiO2). The thickness of each layer was between 10 and 30 nm. Despite the small thickness of the film (few microns), a relatively bright luminescence of white light was observed, along with cathode-ray luminescence in the superstructure film. In addition, irradiation of the superstructure film with UV light led to light amplification by stimulated emission at 405 nm. The experimental results suggest the potential application of silica superstructure thin films as optical amplifiers.

A three-dimensional semiconductor package structure with inter-chip connections was developed for broadband data transfer and low latency electrical communication between a high-capacity memory and a logic device interconnected by a feedthrough interposer (FTI) featuring a 10 µm scale fine-wiring pattern and ultra-fine-pitch through vias. This technology features co-existence of the wide-band memory accessibility of a system-on-chip (SoC) and the capability of memory capacity increasing of a system-in-package (SiP) that is made possible by the individual fabrication of memory and logic on independent chips. This technology can improve performance due to memory band widening and a reduction in the power consumed in inter-chip communications. This paper describes the concept, structure, process, and experimental results of prototypes of this package, called SMAFTI (SMAart chip connection with FeedThrough Interposer). This paper also reports the results of the fundamental reliability test of this novel inter-chip connection structure and board-level interconnectivity tests.
